This was one of my friends' favorite restaurants in NJ and he took us there when we visited him. I am from California and I've been to a lot of vegan places in my city as well. BUT, BUT, BUT.. I have not seen a place this inexpensive!!!!! 3 of us ordered 2 appetizers and 3 lunch specials, which came with soup. And, am kidding not, it cost us $36 with tax. I mean, I gave a little squeal and had to take a second look. It's probably normal here, but I've hardly been to a place in my city, which costed me so less for a meal. A whole meal.. with two appetizers, soup and entree. Very happy with the cost. We ordered drumsticks and another appetizer that I can't seem to remember. Orange chicken in entrees was nice. Now I don't need to travel to Chinatown to get some legit Chinese takeout. I order here almost every week, every other week when I'm behaving, which is embarrassing to say....but i have to admit the food has always been consistent. It's not very good if you're trying to eat healthy, but it is quite satisfying. The Cajun seitan wings tofu black bean sauce, and fried chkn on whole wheat pita w mayo are my favorite. They have an extensive menu that you won't get bored with the food. Although I cannot tell the difference between their chkn and beef. They also have desserts and Thai iced coffee sans dairy. How good is that? From Thai to Japanese, they've got it covered. The sushi rolls are just as good. No sea animals harmed in the making of your roll. Honorable mention is the Tofu skin roll, made of fried tofu which taste like spam. If you used to like spam then it is a must. :) read more

Veggie food as good as it gets. We took the advice of a reviewer here and made a detour from our southward journey on I-95. It's just past the George Washington bridge. You can bring your non-vegetarian friends here. There's plenty of variety. The presence of a large Jewish community means there are also many unique & interesting shops nearby. I was actually looking them up to see if I could get a frozen cheese cake sent out to me in Las Vegas Veggie Heaven has amazing food! Everything I ordered, every time I went was totally awesome. I've had a couple of items that disappoint (e.g., general tso's) and one that was inedible (dragon roll), but the sheer variety and realism they achieve with vegetarian ingredients keeps me coming back again and again. I find that it's best to come in with several people and order a wide variety of items--ideally, the most improbable ones you can get behind. A perfect date exploratory experience choice. My date brought me here and although not vegan. I am always seeking to try new healthier food choices and this place did not disappoint. I wish I would of stopped to take pictures but I didn't want to be rude to my date and he got all the cool points for choosing this spot. We started off with Buffalo chicken wings, which really made me ponder the HOW did they make it taste like oven baked wings and with the Buffalo sauce I was really like okay wings. The vegan sushi almost made me shed a tear when I ate the mango mint roll ‍because why isn't this place in my neighborhood where I need it to be? ???My date had order dumplings that had a peanut sauce and let me tell you something ...‍it took everything not to lick that damn plate!!! ‍So this man takes it further and orders the green tea or matcha cake.I don't even like cake ‍but couldn't stop eating It because it tasted so good...had me ready to give my cakes away after that . ‍In conclusion we indulged in our food choices and found our selves full and completely satisfied but without the heavy food coma from eating those types of foods and that is what made this place worthy of leaving a review for. I've been going to Veggie Heaven for at least 20 years now. It is absolutely my number one favorite vegan restaurant. They have such a large selection of items on the menu and it's amazing how well they can craft dishes meant to be meat dishes but are not meat dishes by using plants and tofu, wheat gluten. There has never been anything that I did not enjoy there. They have something for everyone and their menu is not just Asian, they incorporate many other American and ethnic dishes as well. Such as this paella. It's hard for me to venture out anymore with other dishes because I love this one so much. It has a saffron broth base, kale, pignoli, olives, tomatoes, peppers, onions tofu and rice. It is so good. They also make stuffed cabbage and steak marsala with mashed potatoes. They have amazing drinks and deserts, soups, appetizers, you name it and they either have it or can make it for you. They have chili, wonton soup, sushi, the list goes on. I also love that the owners know my name and are always very welcoming to me. Try this gem out if you haven't. You will not be disappointed even if you are not vegetarian. read more

I was a bit confused before coming here as I had not realized that even the dishes that included "meat" do not contain actual meat. Everything on the menu is vegetarian. However, even after discovering this, I was still hesitant to try any of the fake meat dishes. I went for the sautéed spinach noodles, which I thought were pretty good, though my two other friends disagreed. One of my friends got the sesame chicken, which I tried and was really shocked to find tasted like actual sesame chicken. If you put me in a blindfold and gave me one piece of real sesame chicken and one piece of the vegetarian sesame chicken, I would not be able to tell which is which. My other friend got the Mongolian beef, which tasted good, but did not fool me as much as the chicken. As a vegetarian, I don't really crave meat which is why I did not care to order anything that resembled meat on the menu. However, if you miss the taste of meat but don't want to eat animals, then this is the place for you. Hi. Updating since it's been 5 years since my last review. Veggie Heaven is still heavenly. Brought a newly vegetarian friend of mine here last Friday and everything was as amazing as I remembered. I always get the Mongolian beef. It's mind-blowingly delicious. The fake meat is surprising in its taste and texture. The sauce is amazing. And I love how many black mushrooms are in it. We started with some spinach dumplings this time. They weren't spectacular but they were definitely yummy. Wonton soup is so good as a side/starter. Nothing beats the spicy Hunan dumpling appetizer, they're so bomb. My (non-veg) friend got the sesame chicken which was delicious. He said he was scared to try it and was apprehensive but was very pleasantly surprised. My veg friend got sauteed spinach noodles. He liked it, though others who tried it thought it had a mild flavor. My BF had the house tofu dish. It was tasty but.. really nothing compares to the Mongolian beef. It really does take you to flavor-town. Can't recommend this place enough. Since I'm transitioning to full-time vegetarian, they'll be seeing me a ton. read more

After my friend Dennis M. did me the favor of driving me to Englewood to get a much needed haircut, I did him the favor of deciding where we'd be having lunch afterwards without any second wasted on deliberation. Dennis is very sassy and agitable by nature, so the last thing I would want is to see this amplified by a hangry state of mind. We both ordered the crispy vege beef and decided to split a dim sum appetizer. The waiter gave us very curt responses and snatched the menu out of our hands after we had placed our orders. He said the dim sum would take about 10 minutes to which we responded "that's fine". As he walks away, an elderly man sitting directly behind me buries his elbow into my shoulder blades. I turn back and he apologized yet kept his elbow there. I tried being polite and asking him to adjust, but I feel he may have been senile and sort of brushed off my request with some mumbling. He was there with family (which included an adorable baby child) and I didn't feel like making a scene (as I'm one to do, due to my ethnicity as a fiery Puerto Rican). So I decided to let his elbow rest, nestled into the center of my back, as we waited for the food. The waiter brings the dim sum with the our other orders, begging the question: why did he mention it'd be 10 minutes if he was gonna bring it out 25 minutes later? I decide this is no way to enjoy a meal, so I compromised out of respect for my elders and repositioned myself on my bench seat so that one of my butt cheeks hangs off. The dim sum was a great, whatever pork substitute they used tastes a lot like the real thing. The crispy beef entree came with broccoli and a side of brown rice. The beef substitute was noticeably a substitute and can't pass for the real thing but I liked that it's crispy coating was thin, though it got a bit soggy very quickly being drenched in the chef's special sauce and what not. I like the sauce, it was very tangy and had great consistency. The waiter's less than jovial demeanor and a bony, decrepit elbow did not take away from my experience here. I like Veggie Heaven very much, it's a welcome addition to the scarce amount of vegan restaurants in northern New Jersey. read more

I love Veggie Heaven!!! It's the spot to hit up during lent. My husband refuses to step into it though non-lent days, such a meat lover. The meals look like the real deal, with multiple Asian meal options. Prices can vary depending on what you get, but there's so much variety on what you can choose from. They're General Tso chicken is what I always get. We enjoy their sushi too. Sometimes they get a bit busy, so you can find yourself twiddling your fingers waiting for a seat, and the staff shows that they get stressed with the crowd, so I recommend going there non peak hours. read more

Every dish we've ever order has been amazing. Unfortunately though, the service is incredibly terrible. Most servers are super unfriendly, not helpful, never smile or even look at you when you're talking to them. Usually, they just drop the dish on the table without saying a single word. It's very strange. The manager is always running around and helping when they're really busy and we wish he could be our server all the time. There are three Veggie Heaven locations. I've been to Montclair and Denville many times. My first visit to this location was September 2016 and I have to say this is my favorite location! I think the menu might be a little bigger than the other two locations. Anyway, on to the food - just delicious. The Scallion Pancake is delicious and I got some type of tofu with basil sauce and cashews which was delicious as well. I'm not real into the faux meats a lot of them are heavy on the gluten. One of my favorite places to eat a nice quiet dinner as a vegan. Their food is so awesome and they are very creative with the selections. They have everything from Chinese to Thai food to Vietnamese. HUGE selection, it's almost hard to choose just one thing to order. Great quick service and the food is always delicious. Love how they serve hot tea free with your meal and kimchi. We seldom go out for vegan but at times feel changing things up a bit is a wonderful thing. Tonight's adventure took us to Veggie Heaven and yes, it was a wonderful thing. One of the wait staff brought us tea and a small bowl of pickled cabbage. A great start. We ordered Shitake Supreme, Malaysian beef and chicken hot pot, and brown rice. Every bit of it down to the bed of kale that the Shitake Supreme came on was absolutely fantastic. The coconut curry broth of the Malaysian hot pot was so good it was drinkable. Haven't been here in so long but decided to go here the other day with a few friends. Always good to switch up a meal without meat for a change. Veggie heaven just hits the spot sometimes. If you are a vegetarian or vegan there is a 99.9% chance you have already been to at least one of their locations in your lifetime. But carnivores have so many options they forget you can still get a decent meal without meat. You always get free tea here which I love. The dumpling soup was cute and scrumptious. The broth was especially rich in flavor. The vegetarian buffalo wings were moderately spicy and are just as good as their chicken counterparts. Scallion pancakes were the best I had in a while. I even decided to get a shot of wheat grass because, hey, everyone needs to detoxify themselves every now and then! It literally does taste like grass but I didn't expect it to taste good. For the main event, I got the five flavor mock chicken dish. It had a nice sweet and spicy sauce and also had some other veggies in the mix with some rice on the side.
