Went on a Sunday drive just wherever the road lead me and the drive was gorgeous up the mountain side and I ended up in Prather where my sister and I found a great Mexican restaurant. The staff were so friendly and welcoming we felt really good being there, clean well maintained establishment. The prices are great the food was amazing and the portions are perfect. If you have the time to drive up a little ways to find this hidden gem I highly recommend going there with your friends and family and just enjoy the beautiful scenery on your way there. read more

12/21/24 Getting breakfast for tomorrow. Nice driving heading there! Great views! The worker was very kind. Egg white ham breakfast burrito ordered along with French toast. Go to get it shortly later. Restaurant is nice. Safe and clean. All made up with cute holiday decor. Workers were kind and welcoming. Dressed up for the holiday too! Order was ready. Best Chili Verde burrito in town! If you are looking for a family owned Mexican food place that is yummy, this is the place!

This food is very bland. The beef is tough. Great service though. This food is for white people. Not much mexican flavor.

Just had the best posole!!! And a $7, 2 handed delicious margarita. Their server Andrea was lovely and since I can't have gluten, she made sure that the tortilla chips were gluten-free, a win to have with the delicious salsa. Andrea also went the extra mile to pick tortilla chips that had the least amount of tajin, which gives me migraines because of the MSG. Who does that? She did! Overall a delicious experience and I wish I lived in the area so I could come back again. My husband ate the shrimp fajita burrito with rice and beans. He usually doesn't like rice but said that the rice was delicious as were the beans! He also decimated his dense burrito. He also doesn't like soup, but he loved the taste in the posole. This unpretentious restaurant has a super chill vibe and overall we had a great time! It's a good place to go. It's better to sit in than "Drive -thru" apparently. We're going on 5 years as drive-thru customers, never had the pleasure of sitting in. We always hear good things about the sit-in meals.As such, we all love the main dishes. They taste authentic and we are given a good amount. As for the rice, my husband is Mexican and he loves it. I'm not and I don't. It's a personal preference thing. Beans could be better. In my opinion they always taste like they were good probably when they were fresh, or day old. So, for being in the middle of nowhere, I must say that I am so very happy that we have Velasco's! read more

So I've been here a few times over the years when heading to shaver lake or to family's houses. And it's always been good. When we were there on February 17th, we had stopped in for lunch while hanging out with family for my middles birthday . It was actually a really nice welcoming visit, I think he was the manager, was so kind and when he heard it was her birthday they made her feel special. Our waitress was so sweet as well! This restaurant is located in Prather in the parking lot of Mar-Val's grocery store. It's not very big but it's kind of cool they have a drive thru . It's nothing fancy but decent quality. You get one basket of chips with salsa for free anything after that is at a charge. We all got pretty simple stuff , the birthday girl got a kids burrito with beans and rice on the side #19 $7.25. My littlest and I decided to split a meal and to my horror he wanted a hamburger, but I was pleasantly surprised (hamburger with cheese and fries $8.95). My oldest got a kids #17 $7.25 one taco beans and rice . It's definitely a little hole in the wall kind of place that needs maybe a few new chairs lol but the food has always been decent (3.5-3.8) and not too crazy priced. I was a little bummed when I went to pay with a debit and got charged $1.60 for using it and wasn't told either that there was a charge. read more

My honey and I are new to the foothill area and were really excited when we got recommendations for not one, but TWO Mexican restaurants in Prather. I've been miserably sick the last few weeks and on Tuesday I just desperately wanted soup. Albondigas is a personal favorite, but being that I had no energy to make it, I talked my man into taking a drive into town. We showed up about 7pm and picked up a to go menu and placed an order about 7:30pm. The staff was super friendly and our food came out piping hot; a 32oz of albondigas for myself and a burrito for my love. Everything was delicious! I was a bit confused when I found a mint leaf in my soup, but it worked and I ate the whole thing. My honey initially planned to only eat half his burrito and save the rest for work the next day, but once he started eating he just couldn't stop. First time eating in Prather--Velascos definitely made the short drive up 168 worth it (besides visiting my friend who lives near there-lol). Friendly welcome when we walked in, nice decor. Great service throughout our visit. Ordered a Pepsi and found out they have that GOOD ice--the tiny crunchy pebble ice that keeps your soda so cold but doesn't water down-yum! My friends enjoyed their Pacificos-also noticed another table had a round of Micheladas and they were served in huge, tall mugs-cheers! We all enjoyed our lunches-I tried one of their combo plates-Chili Relleno and a ground beef taco with rice and beans. Juicy, crunchy taco with perfect toppings, first time trying a Chilli Relleno-very tasty, and I really liked their rice and beans-the beans were seasoned but not too spicy-so delicious. Would like to try more of their menu the next time we head "up the mountain." read more

- Review during COVID - We were staying in Auberry after a day trip to Yosemite and this place came up on restaurant searches online and also their menu was inside our Airbnb along with other nearby places. We gave it a shot and wow, the food was REALLY good. Exceeded our expectations no doubt. It was so good, we went back again the next morning for breakfast before driving home. During COVID, nobody is allowed inside. Call ahead and then you wait in the drive-through line to pick up your food at the window. Pretty clever in my opinion, you don't get out of the car at all! They are a little backed up on weekends, so expect to sit in that line for at least 15-20 minutes most likely. Cut them some slack though, they're trying! SALSA. Get extras! This stuff was like crack salsa. SOOOOO GOOD. And has a nice kick to it too! read more

It smelled like pee in the restaurant. I ordered ground beef enchiladas and asked to make sure there were no onions. Husband ordered 2 enchiladas and a taco. He asked for everything shredded beef. My meal came out first, covered in onions. I didn't want to waste food so I scraped off the onions (which also scraped off the cheese and sauce). I started eating slow so we could eat together. Husband's meal came out about 5 minutes later. All his items were ground beef so he sent his order back. I finished my entire meal and he was still waiting for his. Staff were apologetic and nice but we were not happy with the food and won't go back. I thought at least they would discount the meal. They didn't. read more

Chimichanga w chili verde is always a sure win! Another favorite of ours is their breakfast burritos. Since the COVID thing hit they opened their drive through and I hope they always keep that open!
