Food/Drinks: Ordered four tacos: the Chimichurri Steak, Quesa Birria, Hatch Chile Pork, and Mexi-Cali Shrimp. Apart from the Chimichurri Steak being a bit overdone, the tacos generally were pretty decent and flavor-packed--the Quesa Birria clinched the top spot! And if you want to take the heat up a notch, the hot sauces they offer are a nice accompaniment. Also had a side of Guac and Elote, which were fine. The Sweet Tea, however, unfortunately didn't live up to its name--could have been a tad sweeter. Service: The person at the register was kind enough to share what they'd recommend. Food came out rather quickly, despite it being a busy Friday night. However, didn't realize until after the fact that the two Say What?! combos we ordered at $15 each could have been one Velvet for Two combo at $25--would have been nice to be made aware of that, but I take full blame for not seeing the small sign on the counter. Avoid their gift cards - Absolute nightmare experience "I am beyond disappointed with Velvet Taco. My friend gifted me a $50 card for Christmas (purchased at the Dallas Parkway location), but when I tried to use it at the Downtown Dallas branch, they claimed it only had $7 on it. I had to pay the difference out of pocket. When I went back to the Parkway location on Dec 30th to fix this, the customer service was appalling. Despite having the receipt, the original card, and the purchase date, they couldn't track it. I was treated like I was there begging for 'free' food rather than a paying customer. They eventually reloaded it as if they were doing me a 'charity' favor, then forced me to wait in a massive line all over again. I don't even care about the $50 anymore--I will never return and I strongly advise against buying their gift cards. They ruined a Christmas gift and a New Year's Eve plan with their lack of empathy and terrible management." read more

The worst Velvet Taco. This is close to my work and every time I order from there, they do a horrible job. Stopped in today hoping it would be better. It was far worse. Fish and chips taco, the better on the fried fish wasn't cooked. It tasted so bad I couldn't finish. I work less than 5 min away and by the time I got back to my office, the WTF burger taco was covered in a pool of grease, the tortilla was soggy and fell apart. A friend has been raving about Velvet Taco, so we were finally able to try it via carry out. I absolutely love that they offer veg-friendly options. My hubby ordered all three of the veg tacos- Hot Tofu, Paneer, and fried cauliflower. I opted for the Paneer, Salmon and Shrimp. We also shared the white queso and chips app. The queso was unique compared to other restaurants and we both liked it but not enough to think about later. The hubs get really liked the paneer and also the tofu taco. Although the tofu was termed "hot", it wasn't according to him. He did not care for the cauliflower taco. The paneer was different and I didn't necessarily enjoy the texture. Oh, well. The salmon taco and shrimp taco were outstanding. The tacos were stuffed full of fresh ingredients. We went to Velvet taco for dinner. As I walked in I loved their modern dining area, the menu posted on wall and the self serving process. They also had lots of outdoor seats. We put in order for bunch of tacos and a side of guacamole. The guacamole was delicious, loved its flavor. Our tacos were ready in about ten minutes. I found it pretty cool how they call everyone's name over announcement speakers. The tacos were huge, filled with lots of ingredients. I started with the spicy tikka chicken taco. Never thought I'd see the tikka sauce in a taco. I actually liked it a lot, with its white sauce drizzle, tasted really good. Then I had the chimichurri steak. It was decent. Finally had the maxi cali shrimp, that was a best of all. It had guacamole, pica de gallo, onion, corn, all on top of delicious grilled shrimp. The food had an authentic taste and it was very long grain basmati type rice which you would typically have for Indian food. I only get one because it's so big and packed with so much so it definitely does the job. The queso was probably the worst queso I've ever had in my life but I think that it's simply an acquired taste. I believe the salsa is what I didn't like. I was really excited to try it initially because it had chimichurri in it which I love and thought was super unique to include. Very good, fancy taco place. I have not been to Velvet Taco before and it seems nice, I don't know how it compares to other Velevet Tacos (TBD). I liked the variety of taco options, the chicken and waffle taco and the grilled steak taco were delicious. It was also nice that they had lemon and lime available, along with hot sauces that you can add onto the taco. The service was fast and efficient. I came during a busy time. Was welcoming. The bathroom though was busy and people had to wait. Also, the cleanliness could be a little bit better. She didn't have an ounce of charisma, acted like serving us was a burden, and was completely unfriendly. To make things worse, the place was a disaster. Tables were dirty, trash was everywhere, and -- brace yourself -- there were cockroaches crawling around the dining area. Yes, actual cockroaches. It was shocking. Despite all that, I somehow managed to enjoy my margarita and tacos, but the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth that not even the margarita could wash away. When I walked inside, there was no wait but the person in front of me was taking her own sweet time with actually placing her order. So I waited for about 10 minutes in what I thought would be just a few minutes. Shaking my damn head. My meal was $21.38 rather pricey and it's not upscale dining but maybe it is. My food was decent where I originally wanted to dine was at Vidorra's but the line to dine in was literally wrapped around the building yikes. So I saw Velvet Taco's sign as I was in route to heading home and decided to stop. They close at 4a.m. That's something I didn't know until yesterday. I love a fusion taco and these might be the most fusionest tacos. I have no complaints my team left happy and full! On the final day of a conference my team decided to walk over to Velvet Taco, a much discussed taco spot by attendees and my uncle who is local. My uncle mentioned the elote so that was an obvious must order but I struggled to estimate how many tacos to order. The answer is TWO TACOS. These babies are not street tacos they're big 'ol tacos stuffed with toppings. I foolishly got three: Fried Paneer- 2/10 this was my least favorite because I was expecting big Indian flavors and got more bruschetta/caprese/Italian vibes. Would suggest they up the spice and use fenugreek not basil. Rotisserie chicken - 4/10 this was a perfectly good taco but didn't wow me. I ended up scooping out the toppings and ditching the tortilla. Brisket - 9/10 I loved this taco it had great flavor contrast and the cheese on the outside of the tortilla added great flavor without making it too greasy. Overall a good experience. Stopped in for a late dinner while traveling for work. I had one Mediterranean Mushroom taco and an order of Brisket Nachos. both were very flavorful. The taco was a mix of cold and hot ingredients but a perfect blend of flavors. The nachos had everything I love but the toppings were baked on to the top layer of chips, leaving me with too many chips at the end. I had no idea how close a velvet taco was to my job! I went here today on my lunch and let's be honest - velvet taco never misses. I love everything I I've had here, today I ordered the #12 & #22. The only reason I gave 4 vs 5 stars was because service was slow and the food took a bit longer than I feel it should. Also a lot of the tables were still dirty not allowing you many options of a place to sit. I feel if those two things were addressed it was guaranteed warrant a 5 star review. Awesome taco shop right off the tollway in the Addison area! What makes this place great is it's the ultimate late night stop for anyone looking to grab some grub on the weekends. On Fridays and Saturday's, this place stays open till 4am and is always a vibe till close. The staff is always attentive and friendly, despite the late night hours too. The only hold back about this place is the price of their tacos... the quality is there but at the end of the day, I'd take a lesser taco, so I don't have to pay $4-$5 per taco.
