The line had about ten people ahead of us and the wait is much longer than most ice cream places as they only had one person serving gelato and one person at the register. They have a few options of cones to select from as well as olive oil and hazelnut drip. We opted for the cone and tried the pistachio, mango, hazelnut, cheese and more! Celeste assisted me with no sugar added options. She offered me a sample and she really knew the chocolates well! The small squares do not have nutrition facts on the packaging, but the bars do and Celeste grabbed them for me to compare. Her service was truly outstanding!!! She is definitely hardworking, knowledgeable and provides excellent service! Their Gelato is divine, a little pricey but welll worth it! We got Chocaviar + cone. It had a lot of darker chocolatey taste, as opposed to the cheaper tasting "chocolate" from other stores. I feel like this is a chocolate store masquerading as a gelato parlor. And that's ok. They have more chocolate/candy stuff on the side. The "stall" is very in-your-face, with the chocolate waterfall behind the bar and the long line covering a quarter of the hallway. Their candy "corner" reminds me of a luxury bag store. It is pricey. Even for bay area standards. I do think the ice cream tastes like it. The service was great too. I went on a very busy weeknight. Amidst the chaos of workers running behind the counter, I felt that I was still served nicely without being rushed by the nice ice cream barista. Will I be coming back for ice cream / gelato? One of our fave gelato places when in Rome. Happy to have stumbled into it while at Valley Fair. Queue was a little long, and that helped when you can't decide on what flavor to taste or try. They let you sample flavors which helps, and it's quite good, but it doesn't top Venchi in Rome or Milan - wouldn't turn it down though when in the states, simply not the same exact taste or experience of course. read more

When I asked why, the staff said they had weighed it -- but I watched closely, and they didn't. They just insisted that "three scoops is three scoops," even though it was clearly less than usual. When I tried to report the issue, the employees refused to assist and completely ignored us. It's frustrating to see such inconsistent service and unhelpful staff at a place I used to enjoy. I had a very upsetting first experience. The menu while simple was still very confusing. I didn't get the gourmet cone since I didn't know what their grain options were. I ended up getting the crepe and gelato which was a mistake. I'm guessing all the workers are trained to handle all aspects of preparing the orders. I knew it was going to be a bad crepe when I saw the technique. They failed the first attempt, saying the batter was too wet, tossed it out, mixed the batter and tried again. They made the crepe again to their standard. I got a chocolate drizzle in my crepe. I took 1 bite of my crepe and was instantly disappointed. I wished they had a designated crepe person. Venchi is a gelato and chocolate shop on the second floor of Valley Fair mall. Honestly the chocolate isn't that great. If you want great chocolate, go to Laderach. If you want cheap chocolate, go to Sees. But Venchi does have good gelato and an omnipresent line to prove it. The flavors are fantastic no matter what you choose. I usually get the dark chocolate with hazelnut, but today I got the strawberry chocolate chip and the cremino. Both were delicious and the cone was crispy & fresh. There is always a long line but it does move quickly. The service is friendly and patient. That said, there is no real place to sit down and enjoy your ice cream. The passionfruit was especially refreshing. I also like my chocolate dark hence the 75% cacao in chocovair and the dark chocolate topping. I was mesmerized by the illusion of a cascading wall of melting chocolate that incase their name. It was not until my mom sent me a picture of her eating venchi ice cream in Italy, that I was convinced that I needed to try this place. I have been here 3 times now, and the service has been amazing and top notch. I haven't gotten any chocolates from them, and have always gotten their gelato here and nothing else. and their gelato is to dieee for. You start off by paying for what you want and a worker will then guide you to their selections of gelato. and then you can try all the flavors your heart desires! The worker will help with recommendations and questions. The last time I went, he even grabbed a couple flavors that we didnt ask for to see if we would like them, and told us his favorite combos. So far, their pistachio, the dark chocolate, and custard are my top favorites My boyfriend is strictly a vanilla dude (lots of different types of vanillas though), but he loved every flavor we tried here. I love Venchi! I've had it less than a handful of times but every time we walk past the location it's the same reaction: "UGH remember the last time we had Venchi? SO GOOD." On the right side of the shop is all ice cream and on the left is where you can purchase chocolate, but the vibe of the shop as a whole is luxe and luxe it very much is. From the texture and taste of the ice cream to the packaging of all the chocolate - very streamlined and on point. I haven't tried the chocolate on its own yet but I hope to in the future! They would make really nice gifts as well. If you don't want to wait in line, highly recommend going at opening. But I will say, the hype is real and the wait is worth it. They have these tiny mini squares of dark chocolates from 60% - 100% dark which was fun to sample from 100% downwards. This ice cream shop is located in Valleyfair and has very long wait times. I waited around 45 minutes to an hour. There's also a separate line to buy the chocolates there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can even try samples. I don't think it was worth the wait but the ice cream was very enjoyable. The texture was nice and you can tell that ice cream was good quality. I definitely recommend getting the spread on the cone. I got the chocolate hazelnut flavor with the pistachio flavor. Customer service is a gamble and today I lost. I asked for a cup with a cone on the side because I have a toddler and enjoy NOT cleaning ice cream off the floor. Paid, checked my receipt, and surprise... charged for a cone. Asked about it. Glasses guy says, "Yeah." That's it. No explanation. No signage. No effort. Just "yeah." I said it doesn't make sense and that it isn't listed anywhere. He processed the return like I personally inconvenienced him by existing. I said "have a great day." He couldn't even fake a response. Not a nod. Not a word. Nothing. But here's the kicker. While I'm choosing flavors, the girl scooping puts my ice cream in a cup and hands me a cone FOR FREE like this was never an issue to begin with. So apparently cones are both chargeable and free depending on which employee you get and what mood they're in. Ice cream is solid. Customer service is chaotic. I like the lil gelato decorations, and if they ever shut down I would really like to buy a pink one pretty please. There was this european guy in line behind me and he was being really picky and lowkey judgy about all the flavors, plus he wanted to try literally everything, sometimes twice, and they were really nice about it! For my first time, I tried a cup with two scoops: Venezuelan chocolate and tiramisu were the flavors I chose. Although eating the scoops quickly became slightly too sweet, I enjoyed the richness of both flavors, and the texture proved to be creamy and easy to scoop. I didn't get a chance to try this in San Diego, but managed to make it to this one in Santa Clara! It's actually super busy on Saturday night. We must have waited in line over 30 minutes. Expectations rise when you have to wait in line. We got 2 regular cups: strawberry and coconut in one cup, and venezulan hazelnut and lemon in the other. My parents love the real coconut in the coconut one. The chocolate hazelnut one was rich and delicious. I also enjoyed the lemon, very tart!
