Arrived in downtown Black Mountain, parking within a few feet of the front door of this place. The people were all waiting out side to get in. We opted to go browsing the town in hopes this line would go away. After an hour we came back and there were only a few in line so we decided to wait. Within 10 minutes we were in and sitting outside on the back deck. It appeared to be a mix of locals and tourists but the word was out that this place was delicious. Our waitress was prompt and gave us the "today's menu" and then said some of the specials were already sold out. Wow! We decided to order 2 different sandwiches and split them I ordered the turkey sandwich on cranberry bread with cranberry jam, lettuce, tomato....it was amazing. G ordered the Cuban sandwich, standard Cuban sandwich but on some sort of artisan roll, smashed and crunchified. That thing was the bomb. For dessert, we ordered a piece of Coconut Cake. This cake was just the right size for two people to share. The layers had some sort creaming filling which for the life of me I could not distinguish the taste. The waitress said it was a special cream filling they make. Such a great change from that overbearing lemon filling some people put between the layers. The frosting was light and the coconut was tender. The cake was so light and fluffy. All of the components to this cake worked so well together. If your in town and want to go to this place, either go early or go later but not too late. They close at 3PM. read more

When we are in Black Mountain, we always stop at Veranda for lunch. Love the home made soups and all the food is delicious.

Although the menu looked amazing and we were so excited to try it, the service was so beyond unprofessional that we took our money elsewhere. We entered the establishment with a service dog who is quiet, small, and hadn't disturbed anyone. For the waitress to address us rudely, walk away insulting us, and proceed to not take our order, and rudely gossip with the kitchen staff is unacceptable. A couple relatively new desserts have been added......they are fantastic as a finishing touch to a great meal! Chocolate Gateau, GF Chocolate Tort, Limoncello Mascarpone. Now I am conflicted because I was "stuck" on the Salted Caramel Cheesecake,, Carrot Cake and Coconut Cake. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am a local resident. We both had half sandwich and some AMAZING Dill Chicken Noodle soup that was almost a stew - stuffed with chicken, bow-tie noodles, lots of veggies and dill. Unfortunately both were less than exciting. Most notable was the people were extremely friendly. I had the half sandwich and soup. I felt the portions were very small for the price. I have had lunch at Veranda several times. The food has been fantastic every time. I always get the soup and sandwich. The soups vary daily and every one that I have had has been very good. Today I had the tomato basil soup; it is really good, but you must not arrive for a late lunch because it will likely be sold out! I have had the turkey cranberry sandwich and the Cuban sandwich. Both are great. (I have not had other sandwiches because these two are so good that I have no desire to try any of the others.) Service is routinely very good. No reservations, and there will likely be a wait near noon. But the wait is worth it. read more

An absolute must-do when we are in Black Mountain. We are particularly fond of their (hot) Turkey Brie sandwich and their house-made hummus with pita triangles. Be sure to get here early to avoid long waits and if you see a delectable dessert (we are big fans of the coconut cake and the key lime pie), go ahead and ask them to put a slice aside for you when you order, as they will often sell out! This is my first time visiting a restaurant in Black Mountain. I was told this place was very fancy. Maybe for Black Mountain? Service was excellent and my partner and I were seated quickly. My issue is with the sandwich I got. It was absolutely the worst sandwich I've ever eaten. I ordered the Caprese Panini and it was completely liquid. That's right, liquid. I picked up the sandwich and the wet, sticky contents slipped out completely. I tried to fork my liquid cheese and tomato back into the soggy pieces of bread but my sandwich dripped down my hands with each bite and to continue eating, you need to put your sandwich back together each bite. I had to excuse myself to wash my hands after the "meal". I gave up on the sandwich and enjoyed the Hungarian Mushroom soup instead. It was delicious. read more

We had a wonderful lunch with a great, friendly waitress. However. We had an incident that makes me question the management. We sat on the upper deck with our 5 lb chihuahua, on a leash that was tied to our chair. For whatever reason, he nipped the ankle of a young female waitress who was bringing food to the next table. This young female waitress exploded and yelled at us before we could even say we were sorry. She ordered us out of the restaurant in the rudest manner. When we spoke to the manager, he gave us a lukewarm apology for her over the top behavior and did not offer anything, after we paid our bill and left a generous tip. His waitress could use anger management, or perhaps some medication, and the manager could use better management skills for a place that depends largely on tourism. Came here on labor day after struggling to find a place to grab food without an hour long wait. Got seated immediately and was given great service. Our waitress was extremely nice and helped us right away. Ordered a mimosa which I am always skeptical of doing but I love them so I did it anyways. They give you a mini bottle of champagne and a separate glass of oj so you can pour to your liking. The food was amazing, I ordered a cranberry Turkey sandwhich with a side of southern cavier. Enjoyed two lunches two days in a row while visiting Black Mountain for our anniversary. Food was fresh, creative and service was good.

We were excited to find this cute spot in Black Mountain, but were disappointed with the service. We arrived around 1:30 and put our name down for a table. I then noticed that people who had just come in we're being seated and I asked the greeter what happened. Our name had been crossed off the list, but we were never seated. Once seated, we were very enthusiastic about the amazing offerings, and got ourselves prepared for some delicious dining. I asked for a cup of one of the soups and she said don't you know that we don't have that one? Evidently, the kitchen staff did not let the greeter know every soup that was sold out. However, still ready for a good lunch, I ordered the 3 salad plate. The chicken salad was to die for!!! The pimento cheese was good, but overpowered by capers. The Greek salad was especially delicious as well. I was again disappointed by the service when our waitress asked us if we would be ordering anything else as we were barely through half of our meal. Definitely made me feel she was rushing us out. Anyway, this place has so much good going for it...cute items to buy, a diverse and healthy menu. However, poor service can negate all of those good things. The place was packed so I'm hoping this is not the norm. This place is amazing! We researched places to stop for lunch on our trip. We wanted something just off the highway but not fast food. This was our find and boy, were we glad to eat here! We had a short wait for our table. They will wait to seat you until your whole party has arrived. Once seated, our waitress quickly came by to take our drink order. We looked through the menu and the daily specials which include several different soups. Most of our group ordered a sandwich and soup. The Charleston She Crab soup was tasty and had good flavor, including Old Bay seasoning. I ordered the Hungarian Mushroom soup which was amazing. Creamy, lots of mushrooms and flavorful. Another person had the Lima Bean and Ham soup which was equally delicious. Our range of sandwiches varied from tuna salad to their pimiento cheese to their Italian BST. Others had the beef dip with au jus and the Cranberry Turkey. One person had the special, the Hawaiian Pretzel roll sandwich. We were all pleased with our choices and the quality of food was outstanding. We didn't even think to take pictures to share. We were too busy eating! Wow! Fourth time is a charm? I first stumbled across Black Mountain when my husband and I were staying in Asheville. We were on our way to a waterfall hike and wanted to grab a bite to eat. We saw a food sign and pulled off the highway. Driving into town, I felt like I was in a Hallmark movie! We saw this cute little restaurant and decided to give it a try. We had an amazing meal and experience. Now, every time we come to the area, we make a point to stop here for the delicious food and service. We brought my brother and his wife one time and my husband's cousin and his wife another time. This time, I came for a work retreat and stayed right in Black Mountain. I brought my team here for a late lunch. We were welcomed and sat promptly. The waitress was super sweet and we loved everything we ate! I had the grilled turkey berry brie and it was delicious! I always get the indian summer salad every time. So good! I also can never pass up their homemade soups. This time I had the tomato, feta basil soup. Yum!!!! There wasn't a crumb left. What a great find. This is a very good restaurant. We ordered the following Cuban sandwich - very good, the bread was good too A turkey Brie sandwich - which I loved and would get again. Anyone coming here should get this. A PB&J - which was like every other PB&J A kid's turkey sandwich which was very good but very very small. My kid ended up eating other people's food because this tiny sandwich did not fill him up. The restaurant is a little hard to see. We came in from the back and almost went in to an ale house that is next door. It felt like we walked through the kitchen. Everyone was very friendly too. At 2pm on a Saturday there was a 15 minute wait for a table which is always a good sign that they have great food. We would come back next time we are here. read more

Delicious.. Their Hungarian mushroom soup was outstanding and I'm Hungarian. It reminded me of Sour wax bean soup. I also ordered the Bavarian Pretzel club sub Horseradish mayo instead of mustard and it was on point. My husband knew it was good because I ate everything on my plate and that rarely happens. He ordered the Roast Beef sandwich and half soup (Hungarian Mushroom soup as well) and thought both were delicious.
