It was okay for what it was your usual seafood fare. The gumbo was the best part of the meal. It had a smoky taste to it and was absolutely wonderful. The server we had stayed on top of drinks and checking on us. The food was hot and fresh, but the shrimp was just a bit overcooked. We ate because we were hungry and it was there. I read the reviews and they said it was good so it may have been an off day that we went. We got the lunch specials and they are worth the price you pay for them. Checked out the restrooms and they are not exactly wheelchair friendly. You could possibly get one in the restroom but you would have to do quite a bit of angling of the chair. Today the food was abysmal. My first visit, five weeks ago was delicious. What happened in five weeks? I ordered the shrimp basket both times. The shrimp today were small and covered in a very thick bland batter and overwhelmed the flavor of the shrimp. I was so thick that I had to pull it off. The French fries were OK. Nothing special with frozen fries that are a bit under cooked. I also ordered the gumbo on my first visit and again today. Huge difference. The first time it was one of the best cups of gumbo I've had in awhile. Today it had an odd scorched and bitter taste. The absolute worst was the bread pudding. It looked like they scraped up the last little bits in the pan and half-a$$ed warmed it. Looked like messy garbage and tasted like it was left over a few days. The manager/owner? gave me $4 off for the bread pudding. I didn't ask for it, just complained that it wasn't something that should be served to customers. Today was my last visit. OMG !!!!! This is my first time here but it certainly will not b my last. It's about 1 and 1/2 from my house but Yeah it's good enough to drive here once a month just to eat here.. The best Crabmeat Augratin I've ever tasted, no fillers just big lumps of fresh crab and creamy delectable flavor, it was out of this world. The whole fried flounder was fresh and seasoned perfectly and scored so the bone didn't get in the way of eating, it came with 2 sides I got a salad and a baked potato. The food and service at Vera's was amazing. We had a seafood sampler plate which had chips, toast fish, shrimp stuffed crab, oysters all was perfectly prepared and delicious. The portion was large enough to feed two. Had the Daiquiri with creme hats off to the bartender on the drinks. Our waitress Kayla was so polite and gracious. The atmosphere is also very comforting. The Chargrilled Oysters are some of the best I have had. The salads were also good. The Shrimp PoBoy is on point they let me have the ingredients on the side so I can build it to my liking. The sweet tea with lemon is delicious. Definitely a place to go to. Would definitely come back. read more

There are great seafood restaurants in Slidell. This isn't one of them. I think that the fried seafood here tastes like grease and old grease at that. Like it's been used over and over for days and days. The crabmeat au gratin app is good, but that's not worth a trip here, in my opinion. You could easily make that at home. We ordered a Shrimp Po Boy and Catfish Dinner. We enjoyed it. Catfish was chewy, but it was still good. I enjoyed the atmosphere, though it was kind of dark. We walked away happy! During the pandemic Veras offered curb-side pickup as well as inside dining. There is hand sanitizer at the door and seating is spaced well. As usual the food is great and there is a choice of a $10.00 lunch every day. The staff is courteous and attentive which makes them eligible for a nice tip. Remember tipping because the wsiters do not make a large salary so tipping makes it possible for them to earn a living. read more

I ordered Gulf red fish, fried, with sweet potato fries. It comes with a salad. I had the house made Ranch dressing with my salad. I didn't eat the crust on the fish, so I tasted pure fish. The fish itself had no salt on it so it's great for folks with high blood pressure. The sweet potato fries also had no discernable salt. I order a cup of coffee afterwards.
