I went to Vera's on June 27th about 6pm to get some good LA seafood. What a major disappointment. The prices were outrageous ($12 for a poorboy) with meals very expensive. The tables next to me had food under the table at a time when not many people were in the restaurant. The table and booth bench was dirty. After seeing the prices and condition of the restaurant I decided to have a bowl of gumbo. The gumbo was utterly tasteless. The service was average. I told the server that the gumbo was tasteless and she seemed to not care. I'm never going back to this place. I've found a much better option with reasonable prices at Kenny's Seafood. read more

I drove to Miami Beach from Austin Tx. Miami Beach has ridiculous prices and mediocre food. I drive home and 12 hrs of senseless driving, I ran across this restaurant on recommended locations. I see the sign and pull in to the parking lot. The sign is pretty simple and the parking lot fools you!!! It's not as simple as one believes it to be. You walk in to this ambient of genuine Louisiana vibe. Obviously a little more elegant than usual. However the food. I cannot stress about the food. It's fresh, and full of flavor at every bite. The service, attentive, and very generous. I always stress about the way people treat you when you're their guest. These beautiful ladies have their stuff together. I am so happy with his place, that I'm willing to drive back from Austin Tx just to eat here again. You will not be disappointed. My overall rate is a 5/5. read more

If you are going to a movie in Slidell and want to have dinner, this is a good place to do it! My friends and I had dinner here before Christmas when we went to see The Hobbit. I concur with a previous reviewer's comment about the decor being fun. It really was, especially dressed up for Christmas. I am remiss in being so tardy in reviewing this. When my family is in the mood for a quick poboy or gumbo, Vera's is our spot. What I love most about Vera's is the decor. For a place that is located in a strip mall, from the inside you feel like you're spending an evening in the swamps. The staff has always been super nice and accommodating. One day we were having some boiled crawfish with out of town guests when the lights went out due to a tropical storm. The staff put flashlights out and kept the crawfish and beer coming. Only in Louisiana, right? :) Their gumbo is consistently tasty, not mind-blowing, which is understandable in a restaurant setting. I usually add some hot sauce to give it a kick. I personally love the corn crab bisque, which they have as a special sometimes. We've always had a good experience eating here. It's not the best in Louisiana cuisine, but it's certainly enjoyable and fresh for a casual meal- much better than most. read more

I ate here many times when I was growing up because we had a camp just down the road from Vera's when it was on Rat's Nest Rd. I remember it was the best soft shell crab ever. I ate at the current location for the first time today. Of course I miss that it is not right on the water anymore and I'm not sure of the soft shell was as good as I remember, but I did enjoy it. By chance, my wife and I picked Vera's Seafood in which to dine by doing a search online for restaurants close to our hotel in Slidell, La. As it happened, I noticed that it served local cuisine and this intrigued both of us and so we decided to try them out. So glad we did! The meals we dined on (Butterflied Shrimp, Crabmeat au Gratin) were firsts for us both and we were absolutely pleased! The meals were severed promptly, appeared to have just come right off the grill and out of the oven, and in addition, they were quite tasty! The staff was very polite and professional, and followed all the safety protocols for the covid. We ended up here unexpectedly because the restaurant we planned to celebrate my mothers 76th birthday was a complete mess, see my Young's Steakhouse review for more details. This place was excellent. There were 16 of us and collectively we agreed this place was worth revisiting. We had apps and main courses and for dessert they brought out and served the cake we brought, My mothers favorite Strawberry Shortcake from Maurice's French Pastries. Would definitely recommend!! Originally from lafayette but moved out of state and was in town for a wedding. Wanted boiled crawfish but wanted somewhere decent to sit and eat it. Drove by this place and I am so happy we stopped. Everyone was extremely friendly and turns out this is a well-know establishment in slidell. I ordered boiled crawfish, which was 3.50 a pound in February so decently priced and it was perfectly cooked. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp Poboy which was also very good, crusty bread as well. 3 1/2 is more accurate. Po'boy's, shrimp and oyster, were good and stuffed. Good bread, cooked right, and came out hot. Alligator sausage was delicious. Gumbo was good enough... We came here for dinner last night (a Friday) around 7:30. Had about a 15 min wait to be seated. Staff was friendly, checked on us frequently without being over bearing. Food was tasty, nice big portions. We paid $50 for the shrimp platter, the catfish platter, the crab au gratin appetizer, and 2 sodas.
