Stayed 2 nights at this HGI and only dined for breakfast - First morning we had the buffet. Very unimpressive but you can order cinnamon French toast and pancakes which I also sadly found unimpressive. I didn't order an omelette but it is part of the buffet which makes it a solid deal ($20) when if you order an omelette a la carte it's $19. The second morning pleasantly surprised me. I ordered a veggie omelette with bacon and it came with breakfast potatoes. The fresh potatoes were SO good!! Some of the best I've had! Perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside with great flavor. Much better than the ones sitting out on the buffet line which were dry and hard. Best thing here is the California Breakfast Burrito! Seasoned well and they don't skimp out on most of the ingredients - but there wasn't much pork. Very delicious eggs and homestyle potatoes inside. While staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, I would get this for breakfast almost everyday. One morning, I decided to also try the Chicken Fried Steak, which was delicious - but such a huge portion! I had to share this with another person. The gravy was great, but hearty. Chicken was crispy and not overcooked. Overally pretty good, but not my cup of tea. A big downside of this place is the wait time. After ordering, we'd wait 20-30 minutes for our orders sometimes... The prices are also upcharged since most hotel guests have food credit. read more

My first night at the hotel I decided to eat here because I was tired from my travel. There was one person working as the bartender, wait staff and server. She was working nonstop. The bar had 8 guests and the dining area had 10 people including myself. Admittedly, I should have left once I realized this but again, I was tired. After she took my order 20 minutes into my arrival, I overheard several patrons complaining about their food. One couple complained their chicken was overcooked, dry and extremely salty. Another gentleman had just received his soup and immediately stated his soup was cold and sent it back. I thought, "great what did I get myself into"? I received my meal a half hour after ordering and my strip steak, ordered medium, was chard on the outside but raw throughout otherwise. Did they cook it in a toaster oven? The server/waiter/bartender I give 5 stars to for her positive attitude, work ethic and dedication. I would hire her in a heartbeat. The "cook" and the management team, 0 stars. The most important value to this restaurant was the convenience. We stayed at the hotel for a family get together and it was raining. Having a restaurant inside the lobby of the hotel was ideal. The food was pretty good but not amazing by any stretch of the imagination. The prices were too high and the service was adequate. I was unhappy they charged me twice for the meal and the second charge pended my account for 5 days before it was released. Not cool. read more

The service was awesome and waitress was really nice and helpful. But she was a liar! Lol , kidding. But, she did tell me that the Caesar salad was really good and I didn't find that to be true. I make a better salad at home. I found the tiny piece of salmon to be very bland, pretty sure it was previously frozen. The salad was iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of romaine for color. Over the course of 5 years or so , I've stayed at this hotel and eaten at Verde Kitchen . I've yet to have a bad meal . I just recently tried it again and for a small lobby hotel cafe in a Hilton , it stands apart . Michele the Bartender occasionally does double duty as the waitress and the lobby bartender . Michele makes a weary traveler feel welcome and goes out of her way to accomdate. She is the constant that will keep me comming back . read more

This restaurant is in the lobby of the Hilton hotel. I was staying there so I didn't need parking, but there was plenty of parking down the hill. I sat at the bar to have a drink and it happened to be happy hour. Which I think is from 5-7pm, not sure on the days. The bartender was great, very sweet. This review is for the restaurant in the Hilton Garden Inn Old Town. I usually don't eat in hotel restaurants but we were tired & didn't feel like looking for a restaurant. Plus hotel gave us a coupon for 50% off one Appetizer. Small menu but nice variety. I ordered the Verde quesadilla appetizer & it was filled with delicious veggies. It was larger than I expected and probably would have been enough for my dinner. However I had already ordered a Tossed Green Salad with added salmon. Wow! This was the best tossed salad I've ever had! Filled with fresh diced veggies. My friend ordered steak & said it was very good too. Prices are slightly higher but you're paying for convenience & good quality. The only negative for me (hence 1 less star) was the restaurant is part of the hotel lobby & the lobby has a very strong fragrance. In addition, the server (who was very nice) wore strong perfume, making for a less than enjoyable experience for me. Food wise it was 5 stars! If fragrances don't bother you, I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I had many meals here last week. Each day I started with the breakfast buffet which was a super nice surprise to have on site. Yes it's $16 per person. Come hungry! There's a lot of options and it was a great way to start the long days of work. We had lunches prepared by the kitchen for our team. Both days were great! The first day we had the Caesar salad, pasta and pizza buffet and the second day we had the sandwhich buffet. It was all good! Better than I expected from hotel food, ya know? For my final meal I wanted something quick while I packed and I got the verde quesadilla... guys it was the best thing I ate. The bar is popular and well stocked from the looks of it. Ok let's make 2 things clear up front - 1. This is NOT a Mexican restaurant as Yelp wants to make you believe, and 2. It is located in the Hilton Garden Inn. With that said, it in no way takes away from the quality & deliciousness of the Verde Kitchen + Bar! The happy hour is very good with a very good selection of wine, beer & cocktails at decent prices. Plus good prices on munchies. Their menu has a nice selection of appetizers, salads (try the wedge with chipotle ranch), good variety of burgers (1/2 lb), plus a small but nice selection of entree's from steak to salmon all with a unique chef's touch. Prices are reasonable, nothing over $24. We found this place while staying at the hotel for 5 days during impromptu trip to San Diego. We ate breakfast here every morning, very good also, but decided to stay in the last night for dinner. Glad we did! One of the best meals we had while in town!
