The Verdict is in, this place is AWESOME!! Went to the Verdict on a whim after visiting Cantigny Park with my family. We tend to seek out local family owned joints and this place fit the bill. So we dropped in for dinner and it was so tasty! We all opted for breakfast for dinner and it was such a good choice. The skillets were extremely tasty, but the the Pancakes, oh the glorious pancakes, they were the BEST pancakes I've ever had. A perfect mix of malted and buttermilk pancakes. The pancakes, I'm still not over them. Dinner for 3 including some insanely good pancakes, tea, and tip was 30 bucks!! Just want to thank the yelpers who reviewed this restaurant. We live about an hour away but had business to take care of nearby around supper time. Since we aren't familiar with the area, we turned to yelp for help! So, what's the verdict on this diner? We voted with the majority of the jurors who declared the defendant to be guilty of serving delicious food in great quantities at reasonable prices! I love the verdict! It is one of the family restaurants that is in my usual rotations for dining out . The menu so huge, sometimes it is difficult to choose what I want to eat! I would highly recommend any of their soups or salads. My usual sandwich is the chicken and avocado, served warm with melty swiss cheese. Yummy. They have delicious coffee and homemade bread and whipped garlic butter. Yummy again! My only gripe is that it is not big enough inside. The Verdict is what all Greek-owned "booth resaurants" should aspire to be. No matter what time of day, one of the two owners greets you and seats you. The lace is always busy, but the service is invariably prompt. I have eaten here for years and never had a bad meal. The prices are ridiculously low for the quality and the menu is so broad that if you can't find something that appeals to you, you must have grown up on another planet. read more

A classic! The Verdict is convenient, has a huge menu, and a lot of classic Greek entrees, including saganaki, souvlaki, and great gyros are wedged in among more common American fare. One of our favorite lunch spots, crowded but always seated immediately. I like the avocado stuffed with seafood salad. The portion is huge- a whole avocado stuffed with their delicious homemade seafood salad accompanied with cottage cheese, fruit, tomato slices, & feta cheese chunks. Included is soup (both cabbage soup & roasted pepper soup are delicious), and a loaf of warm bread. A real bargain at $9, Dinner has some wonderful Greek traditional foods, all huge portions. Haven't tried breakfast there, so can't comment on that. read more

The verdict is a staple for county employees and lawyers during lunch time. While the food here is average and nothing special it is still a good place to go and have lunch. The service here while very friendly is a bit on the slow side which can make it hard to go here and get back to work on time. The menu does however offer many different choices so if you are going with a group everyone will most likely be able to find something you will like here. Also they are very accommodating if you have any special requests. On my last visit I ordered the burger. My first impression was how large it was and how big the portion sizes are here. My burger tasted pretty good but was a bit on the dry side but about what I expected from a typical dinner. My conclusion would be to say if you are in the area stop in but I wouldn't make any special trips to eat here. read more

I went here for lunch while serving jury duty. This is probably the most efficient restaurant I've ever eaten at. From the time I walked in the door to the time I had food in front of me couldn't have been longer than 7 minutes. All the staff was very friendly and conscientious of strict time constraints. Great family breakfast on New Years Eve morning! I had the eggs and bacon with pancakes on the side. Everything was great, especially the service. Our waitress made my daughter a Rudolph pancake by request! (She saw it on TV and had to have one even though it's not on the menu) The only complaint I have is the bathroom cleanliness. I gave this four stars because the food is really good but they also have takeout which is really nice. My family lives pretty close to the restaurant and I can't remember the last time we actually ate there, we always order out. They're really good about keeping the food warm until we get there-even the soup is still really hot. They include bread every time which is also really nice. The food is all pretty good. The lemon pepper rice soup is amazing! I get some every time I go. I have ordered both breakfast and lunch items and have been satisfied every time. read more

The Verdict has generous portions; excellent prices for their ingredients, and prompt greeting to seating as well as service. I had the pacific omelette which was really quite good, comprised of crab meat, asparagus and cheese. They keep refilling the coffee cup without prompt and have great customer service. I have been to this classic Greek family-owned restaurant several times now and have enjoyed the experience each time. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. They recognized me the second time I ate there and it was quite a while after my first visit. I feel comfortable having lunch there by myself and know that I will be in and out within the 30 minute window I typically have during a work day. The coffee flows and the noise level is lower than a typical diner. The food is good and comes in large portions. The menu is quite large though, so ask the waitress to help narrow your choices if necessary. They will tell you what's good! I recommend the spinich pie or Greek skillet. Monday's soup du jour is excellent as well. read more

Had breakfast there once. Hash browns were soggy and tasteless. Found black avocado pieces in my omlette, which is not acceptable! Please serve fresh produce. Mushrooms weren't cooked at all, the whole thing again was just tasteless. Also gave me stomach pains for the rest of the day. Not recomending this place at all. A friend of mine came to this restaurant at 10:30 this morning to do work and to wait for me to join her at 12pm for lunch. I called her at 12:10 saying I was coming in. 2 minutes later, I was at the table. The waitress came by and we ordered lunch at approximately 12:20pm. My friend had grilled cheese and a salad, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. 25 minutes later, at 12:45, my food was still not out. I flagged the waitress down and asked to cancel my order (as I only had an hour for lunch). The waitress said it was coming up right now, but I told her I had to go back to work, and I didn't have time to eat. The waitress was rude, and scrunched up her nose and said "do you want a to-go box?" I said no, as I wasn't going to have time to eat it. She then rudely said "Well, I don't know what to tell you" No customer service skills at all!. But here's the crazy part: THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE FOOD ANYWAY. I brought the receipt straight to the owner of the restaurant and I told him I was not going to pay. He begins to yell at me saying that I was only there for the past 3 minutes, and that I should have been here when my friend got to the restaurant at 10:30. Disgusted with this owner's attitude, I told him that I will never come back again to which he replies "Fine, don't come back" Really? that's how you speak to your customers? I will NEVER go back to this place again, and I will make sure all of my friends know not to come here either. Words of advice to the owner: 1.) curb your attitude with your customers. 2.) go to the local community college and take some classes in customer service 101. So everyone, I hope this review is helpful to you, and by all means stay away from this asshole owner. I'd give this place 0 stars if I could read more

Nice place, very busy. Looks like a lot of locals come here for dinner. HUGE menu. I thought the chicken salad with cranberries and almonds looked good, but ended up with tuna salad. I like tuna salad, it's just not what I ordered. My husband got the julienne salad, which was huge and absolutely packed with meat and cheese. He loved it. Had high hopes based on the reviews, and my daughter and I eagerly decided to try the Verdict out. We went to have breakfast, and ordered crepes, pancakes, with sausage. Crepes were more like rubbery pancakes on the thick side. Pancakes were mushy, sausage was greasy and flavorless. The waitress literally slammed our plates down on the table. I admit to being a big fan of the Verdict Restaurant. The menu offers a wide selection of delicious meals at a reasonable price. The service is prompt, friendly and courteous. The wait staff can be counted on to check with you if the food is cooked to your satisfaction, and if you need refills on anything. I have never had the need to send a meal back to the kitchen, but if that ever does occur in the future, I am sure it would be taken care of promptly and courteously. read more

We have been eating at The Verdict since they opened 18 years ago anywhere between 1 to 4 times a week for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We have never, ever seen a cockroach!!!! It seems strange that the reviewer that saw them also had friends who saw them in just 2 visits, and we have never seen one in all these years!! We have traveled a lot and find The Verdict to be one of the best in all aspects: food quality, value, service, and friendliness. They hire young people and train them to be excellent servers. We watched many of them graduate high school, college and get great paying jobs. There are also many, many "regulars" like ourselves that appreciate the cleanliness, friendliness, and value of this restaurant. We hope you give them a try, if you haven't already. read more

My daughter is special needs and has a service dog. And yes, he is a "real" service dog as designated by the Americans with Disabilities Act, not a pet we have dubbed a "therapy" dog. I have been to this place several times with friends but this was the first time I brought my hubby and daughter to try their breakfast. The place was bustling when we entered. We squeezed through the folks paying their bills to let them know how many were in our party. We take our service dog most everywhere with us and I have to say people are almost always very respectful and friendly. He has actually provided such a great new opportunity to give our daughter something to talk about with people...and he is stinkin' adorable. So I was simply shocked when I told the gal by the desk that we have 3, plus our service dog and she replied in a tone that was very off putting, "Well with the dog, the best I can do is the first table by the door." (You know, the place that was freezing on that winter day.) I think because of my shocked expression she then said, "Ok, well I can give you the 2nd table, but that is your only choice." Because you cannot "hear" my tone here I want to just say I am not saying the following in anger, but more shock and some hurt. When someone reacts like that to a service dog, what the person with the disability hears is, "You are not really welcome here. There is already something wrong with you, but that dog makes it even worse." It really made us sad. Well, because of our close proximity to the front desk, even though we were trying to discuss what had just happened quietly, we eventually noticed the owner had come up to the desk and was overhearing our discussion. That was probably a good thing, and we truly were keeping our voices down, not trying to make a scene. We could tell by his expression that he was concerned about how this will make his business look. The best thing is our dog laid quietly under the table throughout the entire meal as he usually does and the owner had a clear view of him doing his job so well. I can only assume the owner talked to his employee because as we left she came over to say how adorable our dog is and how she wished her dog would behave so well. I do appreciate that she tried to make nice, but that does not address the fact that she made a special needs person and her family feel weird and unwanted. I would have far rather that the manager would have come over and apologized & told us he was going to address this matter in training for his staff, or if the waitress would have just straight up apologized. The truth is, the ADA law requires all businesses to not discriminate against service dogs. Yes, they allowed us entrance, but they did discriminate in making a deal about sitting by the door. I hope they learn from this. I can tell the manager really loves his business and I was impressed that he seemed to know the majority of his customers by name. But I do hope he addresses this issue with his staff and they never make someone as precious and sweet as our girl feel unwanted again. Thanks for reading this long epistle! read more

My office is right down the street from this place so we order from here all the time...lunch, usually but we've also ordered breakfast too. I'd say every meal from this place has been right on point, and well...good. I visited this place for the first time a few weeks ago. What better place to have lunch with an attorney than The Verdict right?!?!? It was my choice, till I realized what a high profile place it is for the attorneys around here but going in late, we avoided all that and the lunch rush. I got a salad this time around... the salads are huge and fill me up! You also get bread and soup with it...the chicken/lemon/rice soup is really good as well! The lawyer I dined with insisted I get pie as well...to go, so I got the cherry. I felt guilty eating it all at once so after 2 or 3 helpings of my slice of cherry pie, I definitely wanted more. They really do have some good pie here, so this is a great diner to stop in for all your breakfast/lunch/brunch/pie needs! :) read more
