Still seeking out new places to try in the area, we stumbled upon Verdict for breakfast one morning... So what the verdict?! See what I did there? I ordered a full order of Country Biscuits and Gravy with 2 eggs and hashbrowns... Seemingly a boring start to the day... But I love sausage gravy! Grew up on it! I judge restaurants on it! And this one is pretty darn good! They even did a nice job of cooking my eggs to an over medium. So many places over or under cook eggs! The boy ordered the Potato Pancake Combo with 2 eggs scrambled with cheese, 1 sausage link, 2 pieces of bacon, and 2 cakes. These were like no potato pancakes we've ever had! They were larger and served as the main part of the dish. They were fluffy like a regular pancake. They were delicious! The server was very nice and kept our drinks filled. We will be back again for breakfast some time! read more

We enjoyed a late breakfast here recently and the food is delicious! I had the veggie benedict which included three poached eggs, artichoke hearts, mushrooms and spinach topped with a wonderful hollandaise sauce. It was sumptuous and mighty good. My wife had the "Innocent Skillet" and couldn't finish it. It was so big. Nice big cups of coffee and you have the makings of a really solid breakfast place. You've got to watch for the place or you might miss it, but it's worth the search. read more

I agree with the others. Traditional, Greek family diner. Good food, large portions, and a massive menu selection, including all sorts of pies and cakes, a la Baker's Square. The saganaki (flaming cheese...really... it's on fire) is a fun novelty. As the others mentioned as well, the decor is hopelessly outdated. Seems to last have been redecorated in the late 80s. And the mirrors everywhere are a bit disconcerting. There's nothing hotter than watching yourself eat as gyro tzatziki sauce runs down your chin. Neat-o! Also, everything I've had there is borderline extremely salty. It's still mighty tasty, but I find myself drinking gallons of water when I get home. The service felt like a family. Very hospitable with an aunt with some sass as a waitress. The breakfast skillets are plentiful and our scrambles eggs cooked just right. The skillet with gyro was very good and balanced with the innocent skillet which was all veggies. They go easy on the salt which is good. The English muffin and pancakes were good too. read more

This is the 2nd time I came here, and both times I really enjoyed the food. The staff was friendly, the restrooms are clean, and you have to get the steak and eggs medium rare if you're into bloody. Whether you are coming back from court, probation, or being sued, or if you're just in the area stop by because here we all get along despite what side your on. Peace at the verdict! We had incredibly slow service our first visit here. The Greek gyros skillet was a standout...the eggs were poached perfectly. Husband got the Cajun Benedict which had potential but was smothered (in a bad way) in the seasoning. Parking was easy and I liked the diner ambiance so we will give it another try. read more

Pass this place weekly and finally decided to check it out. Went for a casual Friday night dinner. They had a lot of choices on their menu! My husband and I ordered pasta dishes; Mostaccioli and Chicken Parm. They were excellent. Being Italian and raised in the NY area, I know what good Italian food is and what it should taste like. So where to start. We dropped in while looking for a place to eat on the way home. Pleasant surprise! The sick thing here is I have driving by "The Verdict" the last 10 years traveling here and have missed the great meals. Great restaurant. The food is always good and the portions are big, I have had their breakfast skillets a few times and it's amazing. The menu is huge and includes every meal, you can have breakfast all day. The service is great and atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice. One of the better breakfast places in the area, hands down. My family has been here a few times in the past year, and each time it's been absolutely delicious. I'm not a big eater by any means, but this is one of the VERY few places that I will push myself to the max stomach capacity to finish everything (and then some). The wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive, but it's the food that really drives the rating. Everything is prepared virtually perfect...hash browns are crispy, eggs aren't overdone, pancakes fluffy and moist, and bacon/sausage, delicious. I always get the standard breakfasts, while my wife usually gets a skillet. And we definitely need the extra order of bacon AND sausage (the pup at home lucks out with those leftovers). Why four and not five stars? The food is great, staff is awesome, prices are just/fair, location is close, and food is great (yeah, I said it twice), it's missing just that little "something" to get it to five. Perhaps a menu item that is truly original? Something that differentiates the menu from your standard ones.... I HIGHLY recommend this place and will continue to take my family there. read more

Well after speaking to someone who will remain anonymous and for my own personal reasons I am editing my review. I ordered a turkey club for pick up. I wanted wheat bread and extra mayonnaise. Neither happened. While I realize this is no big deal in the scheme of things I do think it's a huge deal if my turkey tastes a few days old. Lastly, the staff could use some manners and common courtesy. They are in the customer service business therefore they should conduct themselves as such even in the face of unfortunate events. In fairness I ate inside once and the turkey club was delicious. Don't know what happened. The owner George needs lessons on how to treat customers. Just because you're having a bad day doesn't give you the right to crap on your loyal patrons. Leave your personal business home where it belongs. And Kristin you above all people should know this! It took me a long time to try this place and I was pleasantly surprised when I did. Not just breakfast, it has really good lunch choices, they were great with dietary restrictions as well. We came here for breakfast with a toddler. Everyone that worked there was very nice and very friendly, it was very welcoming. I *LOVE* how the menu has healthy options. It's nice to be able to go out for breakfast and not regret it. They have a huge breakfast menu, and everything looks good. I went with the Ironman Omelette. It's an egg white omelette with mushrooms, avocado, tomatoes, onions and green pepper, and is served with some fresh fruit on the side. I was a little iffy on how it would be with the avocado inside the omelette instead of just on top, but it was really tasty. I would definitely order it again. The rewards for being a good son is breakfast. After my mother's follow up visit to the eye doctor this weekend, she decided to treat her favorite son to breakfast. The follow up doctor's appointment was in Naperville which neither of us are familiar with. At first I did turn to Yelp for suggestions around that area, but after a few minutes of searching and checking reviews, Ma wasn't in the mood to try something new. Ma turns 79 next week. She said we'd pass a place heading back to her house that she's been to before. But with the last year of her 70's approaching, she couldn't remember the exact name. "The Trial? The Jury? Something about court. You'll know it when you see it". And I did. We were seated by a friendly hostess right away and a waitress who was just as friendly took our orders. Ma was craving cook beef hash which looked delicious. She wasn't able to finish the plate which she was ok with because it gave her a snack later. I had the country biscuits and gravy with sausage and two sunny side up eggs. (Have a mentioned my high cholesterol?). It was probably the best country breakfast I've ever had. I also had a side of rye toast. It's not as close to some of the other places by my mother's building, but I'd gladly drive the extra distance for their food. read more

I came to the VERDICT because I was craving their lemon soup. I swore after I saw a cockroach here on my last visit that I would never come back. Sounds gross to return to a place that you saw a cockroach but I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that things she been cleaned up. Everything was soooo good and I didn't see any roaches. Out waitress was so sweet, kind and fast. Had a good experience. read more

I cannot believe I have driven past this place a million times and never gave it a second thought! This small, family owned restaurant will meet and exceed your expectations. The staff and owner's are friendly and their service is superb and quick as well. The menu has anything you could ask of a diner. It has breakfast items served all day, lunch, dinner, sweets, steak, hot dogs, gyros, sandwiches, soups, salads, it has it all! The prices are very fair, especially since their serving sizes are quite large, which is good if you like leftovers! Overall this place will continue to get my business, so long as it stays open. My boyfriend takes me here when I want to remember my family. Having moved far away, I don't often get mom's homemade cooking but this place is my favorite stand in. I've even ventured outside of the traditional breakfast favorites of mine. The shrimp and crab pasta last night was just what I was craving. The Law burger was pretty awesome as well! I just wanted a very delicious diner to go to, and i went to the Verdict. Lots of yummy food. I had a bowl of cream of chicken rice (with lemon) soup and it was PERFECT! Creamy but not gloppy. I've had bad cream of chicken rice soup in another restaurant and it was thinned out with water. But this was PERFECT. I will go back again. read more

My husband and I have eaten here twice for breakfast. Always great service, tastey coffee, good homey diner vibes. You will never leave hungry- portions are very good sized and we've walked out happy with our food each time. Greek scrambler with hash browns is my go to. Although I have lived right by it for about 14 years, I only tried it about a year ago. What a surprise! Their Gyros are excellent. I just discovered my new guilty pleasure...Gyros and Eggs. You get the best of both worlds...breakfast and dinner! 2 eggs, fluffy hashbrowns (awesome hashbrowns) and huge serving of gyros and you can select pancakes as a side! So delicious! It's a huge amount of food for the price with plenty of gyros left over to take home for lunch the next day! They also have friendly servers and great service. I never had a bad breakfast here. Food is consistently excellent, especially the Sunrise Burrito & Eggs Arlington, & large portions too. Very good coffee in large cups & flavored creamers available. Wait staff is always very friendly, accommodating, & appreciative. They have a discount for military veterans too, thank you. I love that The Verdict is one of the very few restaurants in the area that is still open for indoor dining. I really like this place. It's a very typical Greek family restaurant with a very large menu. If you're not sure what you want to eat, you should go here because they have pretty much everything. The food seems real, not processed or out of a can. The portions are very large and I always leave with leftovers my husband can take to work for lunch the next day! The Greek potatoes and the Greek salad are my favorites. It's just really good food at a good price. They always seat you very quickly, which is important because there isn't a very large waiting area! The staff is consistent and the owner is always there with a friendly greeting. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for the past 15 years. I live in Elgin, so this is a bit of a hike for me but it's worth it. Their menu has so many options and who can argue with the prices. For less than $15 I can get a soup, entree, drink, and dessert with leftovers. For soup recommendations, I would go with the egg rice lemon. They bring you out warm bread with garlic butter. I often go with one of their specials. The fish is cooked right and tastes fresh. I also enjoy their taco salad, all their Greek plates (esp. the pastitsio), the RIBS :). Really you can't go wrong. I'm not a huge breakfast food person, but they serve it all day and my family really enjoys it. Wait staff is awesome too. They are friendly and courteous and always around to refill a drink or check on you. When I give a rating, I rate it as compared to it's peers. Is this restaurant Aliena in Chicago quality? No. But as far as Greek diners go, this is my absolute favorite. read more

Came here today after hearing great reviews and loved it - The portions are large (great for leftovers) and I especially like how the waitstaff treated my niece who has some major dietary restrictions with her health. The waitress very thoroughly investigated the ingredients in a special type of bread they used and even gave my niece the packaging so she could see if she could find the brand on her own. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. I was also able to spend a few minutes talking with the owner, George, who takes great pride in his restaurant. Highly recommended!! read more

I was working at the Wheaton Du Page County Civic Center and was a bit hungry. I had limited money and was very hungry. I went to the Verdict Restaurant which is an establishment that is patronized by many County employees and court staff. A friend and I entered the restaurant which had both table and booth seating. The attractive waitress greeted us and provided us with menu. There were many choices and a very hearty healthy menu. I ordered the Tuna Pita which came with a cup of soup, fruit and cottage cheese. The portions were large and tasty. My friend had a Verdict Burger which was cooked to perfection with onion rings. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. The prices where very reasonable. The restaurant however closes at 3:30pm each day. It is a great place for breakfast , lunch or an early dinner. If hungry and want a good meal try this place out. I just moved within walking distance to the Verdict, so naturally we wondered over for dinner one night. Both the service and food was great. Like other reviews have commented the theme is super cheesy, and decor is kinda 80's/tacky. Like most Greek diners the menu is HUGE, and the portions are also huge plus you get soup and bread with most meals. We plan to come back for breakfast soon! read more

I must have driven by this place about a dozen times and never tried it until today. This type of mom-and-pop Greek place is pretty ubiquitous around Wheaton and the surrounding area, but I have to say this place is probably the best I've tried so far. An extensive menu, enormous portions, and good coffee made for a great quick lunch. We got there relatively late for lunch (around 1:30) but this small place was still relatively crowded. Service was great and prices are very reasonable. We'll definitely be back. read more

In reference to Peter K's comment posted on 6/21/2015: I am thinking this is the man I was seated next to during Fathers Day breakfast this past weekend. I overheard the customer state that the kitchen was out of capers and that something was wrong with his onion, the server was visibly upset by how the customer handled the situation. She immediately sent the owner to the table but the owner's attempts to fix the order were met with vulgar language and rude, loud comments!!! I had to bite my tongue because I couldn't believe how mean the man was to the employee and the owner! My family and I have been coming here for years and The Verdict always serves up great food with kind service. The owner goes above and beyond to make sure you are happy!!!
