Wow. I've been in CT most of my and have eaten at tons of Italian restaurants, often disappointed in how many places miss the ball on simple sauces. Vero by far has the best red sauce I've had in a long time, up their with my grandfather's (who was also from southern Italy). After reading the reviews on yelp and Facebook, I was very excited to try vero. However, the prices are insane. Pepes is 1.75 cheaper for a large cheese! The pizza itself is solid, however not 5 star. They put very little pepperoni. I would say mondo is a much better option if you are looking for good pizza in middletown. Carmines is a great option if u live more towards durham. Heck a 1 liter of soda at vero is 3.50 that's highway robbery. How much is a two liter 10 bucks? I am downgrading my review to two stars just cause of how expensive this place is. Their pricing makes no sense. A large cheese is 19 but u can get the meat special for 21.50. The meat special has pepperoni, salmi, meatball, sausage, onion and peppers, and black olives. Lol vero is crazy. I really wish I could understand the logic behind this pricing. Also, It's not like vero is in prime real estate like say mondo is on main st. Also, look at the not recommended reviews on this place 16 at last check. That's an insane amount for a brand new place. Mediocre Yes the decor and landscaping are awesome but thats it Food is horrible How can an italian place not be good? The famous chips that are basically fried zuchini with a sticky garlic riched dressing are meh. After a bunch of these u will feel nauseous and wonder why u picked them. It was Sunday so expected not busy and we we're happy thinking it was going to be good fast service, oh man what was I thInking!?!? Nice waitress but wow was she slow we found out 35 min into our 2nd that we had to ask for our 2,3& 4 beer and bread no matter what you order if your there at lunch time. We have gone to Vero a number of times over the years. But most recently we have gone more often. We seem to always get the same surly waitress. But the food is so good that we have ignored her bad manners. My sons took me for my birthday back in January. I asked if I could have my pasta on the side. She said it would come dry (no sauce). If I wanted sauce it would be an extra $3.00. This is an Italian restaurant. I said fine. She did not charge me in the end. I went back with my husband. Same surly waitress . The food again was delicious. Her attitude was the same. But we got through it. Tonight I went with my sons to hear some music and have some appetizers and pizza. Again the food was delicious. The same waitress was also the same . She seemed to get better throughout the night. But at the end I was looking at the check. She came over to get my card. She grabbed the receipt out of my hand. I wasn't ready to pay but I handed over my card since she already had the receipt she had taken from me. She came back and evidently realized she was out of line. She offered an explanation that she couldn't hear because of the music. Lame attempt at an apology when she grabbed the receipt out of my hand. And Han to reach across the table since I was at the far end of the table. My oldest son wanted to leave no tip. And he will not go back after her disrespectful and just plain nasty behavior. I really love this restaurant. The food is so good. But the waitress really needs to find a new line of work. If you don't mind some surly, food is great. read more

Italian isn't typically my favorite type of cuisine, but I was pleasantly surprised by Vero Cucino Rustico! I brought my grandparents here this past weekend for lunch and was blown away by the atmosphere, diverse menu, and the portions. My grandparents ordered the Gnocchi (which is made at the restaurant) and Eggplant Parmesan. I ordered the Arugula & Goat Cheese Salad. Everything looked great and was enough for two meals! The ingredients were fresh, too, which was nice! The only reason I'm not giving it 5-stars is the speed of service. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, but the service is a little slow and we ended up waiting for the check for a while. Regardless, we plan on going back soon! read more

Had dinner here this evening and as usual the experience was great. Food delicious and we were given generous portions. We sat at the tables outside and it was very relaxing and enjoyable. Our server Pam was fantastic as usual. She is very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. With everything going on in the world today and how stressful everything has been Pam still maintains a professional and friendly attitude. There are many that are unable to do that at the present time. She is a true asset to the restaurant. The service here is so agonizingly slow. My wings were cold and the prices are ridiculous for what you're getting and where you're dining.. idk who these people think they are, this isn't an upscale atmosphere in the least. What a joke. My husband and I are always looking for new places to eat locally and saw good reviews on Vero Cucino Rustico so we took a quick ride over. The restaurant was nicely laid out and live music was playing. My husband chose his meal from the specials menu. New England Clam Chowder for an appetizer and Flank Steak with mashed potatoes and green beans as the entree. I chose had a nice chicken salad. While we waited we received a nice basket of hot sliced bread made from the restaurant's pizza dough. Excellent with a nice crispy crust. The entrees were perfect and the and made just as ordered: medium rare steak and the salad chopped a little extra (easier to eat). The portions were large as well allowing a little for a nice lunch tomorrow. The wait staff was great and after dinner, we got a personal tour from the owner (great guy). We ordered a pizza to go and dessert from here. We got a large pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, and fresh basil. The basil was pretty burnt- I feel like they should have added it after the pizza cooked. The crust was also super soggy towards the middle of the pizza. Overall, it had really good flavors though and I wouldn't hesitate to get it again. My fiancée also got their heath bar dessert pizza with ricotta cheese and he absolutely loved that. I got a cannoli and I have to say- it was one of the worst I have ever had. They put sprinkles on it which I found strange and the filling did not have a good flavor. Well the bread was good. The pasta dishes were not. The pasta had no bite. It was totally overcook like it was sitting in warm water for hours. No seasoning at all. Who boils pasta with no salt? I ate the shrimp and veggies on top but could not eat the pasta. We ordered side salads which were huge but filled with too sweet pecans which clashed with the vinaigrette. We decided to venture off the beaten path of Main Street Middletown and try somewhere new one night. We're so glad we gave Vero a whirl. Wonderful staff, wonderful food, and just a really cool space. We tried a pizza, which was a Top 3 for me in Middletown. The salad was very fresh with a delicious homemade dressing. Pasta Carbonara was just OK; a bit smoky for our liking, but to each their own. Tried this place for the first time. White clam pizza was good but not anywhere as good as Pepe's or Zupardi's. I ordered the steak and cheese and requested no mayo and it was loaded with mayo. We also ordered the eggplant rollatini and when we opened the bag it was manicotti. The person even confirmed that order and they still messed it up. The manicotti was not great and for $16 they should at least give you bread or a side salad. To their credit they did offer a free eggplant rollatini on our next visit but I doubt I would go back. $63 for a pizza a sub and manicotti is way too much. We were recently married in a private ceremony and wanted to have a local gathering for friends and family. We had heard great things about Vero Cucino Rustico so we stopped in a few months prior to inquire about having an event there. The staff immediately put us at ease with their welcoming approach and genuine interest in our celebration. After going over the details and seeing the private room we would be able to use, including a full bar and plenty of space, our choice was easily made and we had great confidence knowing our party was in great hands. Before we left after enjoying a wonderful meal with very attentive service, the owner, Taso, took time to speak with us regarding our event and put our minds at ease with his caring, empathetic, and very professional approach. And to top it all off, the owner handed us a delicious loaf of freshly baked bread as we were leaving! On the day of our event, we arrived a few hours early to set up and were given free reign to decorate and re-arrange anything to our liking. The staff and owner immediately welcomed us and assisted us with any questions we had while also providing a very positive atmosphere. The owner even went out of his way to provide an external speaker so we could play a special playlist we created for the day. As guests began to arrive, the staff was fully prepared with an array of delicious food, ranging from appealing appetizers to various types of pizza. In addition, the bartenders/waitresses Sue and Amaya could not have been more attentive or pleasant when serving drinks, or helping our guests with any requests that arose. Knowing everything handled by the staff was working like clockwork (with a personal touch) allowed our guests and us to immerse ourselves in celebrating our love and devotion to one another, which was our biggest hope for the day and we can truly say was fully achieved. All of our friends and family raved about the food and service, with many taking leftovers home to enjoy. Decent food but HORRIBLE service. We were there the other night and our table of 4 received ONE menu and one glass of water. When the "waitress" finally deigned to take our order, the dishes were delivered one at a time. We were told there was no bread for the table although they continued to serve sandwiches. At last when we were ready to leave we waited at least 15 minutes to get our check. The owner is pleasant and grows much of the produce out back. Overall I think the pricing is not only wildly uneven, it's too expensive. The waitress we had the other night, Pam, is miserable and is doing the restaurant a huge disservice. While in Connecticut, I always make a point of getting pizza. I am particularly fond of the New Haven style pizza with the thin crust and quality sauce and cheese. This is not that pizza, more like traditional pizza you can find anywhere, but it is good. We stopped in recently for a late lunch and were the only patrons in the restaurant. The menu offers many traditional italian dishes of chicken, seafood, and pasta. My family members who recommended this restaurant loves the pizza here so we focused on that part of the menu for lunch. Service was good and prices reasonable for large pizzas so overall the experience was very good. We had the margarita pizza and it was ok, but could have used more fresh basil. Our favorite choice was the vegetable pizza. The veges had been nicely seasoned and partially cooked before topping the pizza for a perfect doneness. There were also good veges such as broccoli and zucchini in addition to the peppers and onions found on most vege pizzas. I would go back if in the area, but would not necessarily go out of the way to order pizza here again. read more

Just ate dinner tonight on their patio. Great service. Bread and olive oil are fantastic and refilled without asking. Chef salad is AMAZING. Wings crispy and tossed in a delicious sauce. Special of the day seafood stuffed mushrooms were perfect. Then pizza - which we normally pick up and drive home 15 minutes (still good then) was so GOOD fresh from the oven. Server even asked my daughter if she wanted regular chocolate milk or extra chocolatey chocolate milk when she ordered! She asked for extra and she got it. Frosted glass for my beer, carafes of ice water left on the table and refilled. Couldn't have been a better experience - and the owner even brought our our appetizers. The menu is gigantic. If you can't find something that interests you, you have spent entirely too many dinners at McDonalds. Service is very good. We had a group of 12 with 6 separate checks (couples). No frowns from the server. Our favorites: Broccoli Rob and Sausage and Mussels 3 orders each. Food was very good. We held my daughter's college graduation party at Vero Cucino. From the planning stage to the day of the event the staff was responsive to questions and requests. There were delicious choices for the salad, pasta and meat courses. For apps we chose chicken skewers, fried mozzarella and a variety of stuffed breads. For dinner we had house salad, penne alla vodka, green beans, chicken Francese, stuffed sole, and a stuffed pork loin. Our guests raved about the food. Everything was delicious but the stand out favorites were the penne and the stuffed sole. Often sole, when served on a buffet, is dry and flavorless --- not at Vero Cucino. The seafood stuffing was amazing and the sole was moist and flavorful. I was busy hosting, so ate very little, but sooo many guests raved about the food during the celebration and days later. Lastly, the ambiance in the banquet room was rustic and charming. I absolutely recommend this venue for a special occasion private gathering. read more

It's about time a great restaurant went into the corner of TradeWinds Plaza! Last week we stopped in because we noticed a door was open, so we ordered a small Blanco pizza and a Chicken Cutlet grinder; beyond amazing! The pie was to die for, and the grinder roll was homemade and with the roasted red peppers, it was fantastic! After the snow storm yesterday and shoveling all morning, we had to get out!! We got the Big SPUD pizza which is to die for! The potato is mashed and funny cooked with fabulous seasonings and bite size bacon with a coating of cheddar cheese!
