SO BOMB! I took one bite of that pork and started to do my happy food dance. It was flavored perfectly and was so juicy and tender. You know the foods good when you start making inappropriate moaning sounds while eating it. I ended up trying tostones for the first time and enjoyed those as well. I've been to a lot of Spanish restaurants in my life especially coming from the East coast. But if your looking for a really good latin cuisine this is the place to be! I lived in NJ/NY area all my life and its been 4 years in LA and theres no other place like Versailles!!! They start off with the original deliciousness garlic bread (as you'll see in my pics we destroyed them all of before i even got to take the pic) LOL. We started with the Yuca Fries OMG deliciousness! The mains we ordered the Rabo Encendido, oxtail stew, the meat is so tender it literally melts in your mouth. Second was the Pollo de la Plancha. Then for my gf she ordered the Paella. All entrees are served with rice, black beans, morro rice and the delicious maduros. It's real Cuban food in LA. Its very very hard to find a good Latin Caribbean restaurant in LA but thank god for this place! Prices are reasonable for the serving sizes, service was great and it closes late on weekends 11pm! read more

We decided to try this restaurant based on reviews and trying Cuban food. There is plenty of parking in the stip mall of where the restaurant is. The overall atmosphere is dated and unappealing. We came for an early dinner, just around 6 pm and the restaurant started to fill; the waitstaff were overall efficient and pleasant. As we sat down at the table, complimentary warm, slightly toasted very buttery and garlicky bread was provided. On the whole we enjoyed our dinners: Oxtail Stew, Beef Tongue, and the Garlic Butter Halibut Special. The Oxtail Stew was very tender, tasty and had good flavors. The beef tongue was also tender and stewish. Both, the Oxtail and the Beef It came with plantains, rice and beans. The plantains were naturally sweet and saucy and the rice/beans tasted as expected. The Halibut was cooked to our liking and the overall flavors were simple. The portion sizes were on the larger side. The Flan and the Tres Leches Cake were ordered for dessert. Unfortunately, both were below average, the Flan was too firm and flavorless. The Tres Leche cake was unmemorable and disappointing. Would come back and try some other items on the menu. read more

For such a great location and a lot of hype before going here, I was disappointed to say the least with the food here. In Encino, I feel like restaurants must have a feel that they are "special" and above the average restaurant, and I did not feel that from here. I ordered the Garlic Chicken with plantains, and although the plantains were actually pretty good, they were not enough to make me feel like they were better than any other plantains that I've had. And I read all about how the Garlic Chicken was the hot item on the menu, and I was not really that impressed by it. Even though it was cooked well, and the chicken was moist, there was not really that impressive of a flavor to go with it. My sister ordered the Sandwich Cubano, in which we shared between the 2 entrees, and the sandwich was also just okay. The sandwich wasn't raved about too much on Yelp, but I was open minded and still thought it was just an average sandwich. Overall, I would not come back here and was actually rather disappointed for how much my family was looking forward to it. When I come to visit from SF- I need to stop here! This time I came and had Alfredo as a waiter and he was amazing and super attentive the whole time. for example- I am used to getting a number 8 BBQ chicken- but I recently became a vegetarian. I was ready to pay for a #8 and just not eat the chicken but Alfredo told me of a different # that had everything I wanted and he would give me a side of BBQ. And it was perfect! And then when I didn't finish it and wanted to take it home I didn't know how I was going to take my BBQ sauce home (bc their BBQ sauce is so good!) I've been to a few Versailles locations before moving to the valley, I was happy to find this location. The food is good and the service is excellent. I always get the lemon garlic chicken. They serve huge portions! So I always end up having leftovers, but I'm not complaining. My mom and brother love the ox tail. They also serve sangria which is a nice plus! The only con for me is the parking. There are only a few available spots, but they offer valet parking. And if you are there for dinner and the valet staff is leaving, they will walk in to return your keys. I've never heard of only daytime valet, but hey there's a first time for everything. read more

We've been going to Versailles in Encino for many years. They have the most extensive menu, including vegetarian, and best service with a smile! Our favorite is their famous house specialty - juicy roasted half chicken marinated in their delicious garlic sauce garnished with sliced onions, and don't forget to add the fried plantains, they're delicious! All are cooked to perfection! It's a special treat, and a great family atmosphere, although you see business folks, couples, and singles, enjoying this amazing Cuban Fare as well. The lunch menu portion is perfect, at night you get huge portions, so there's plenty to eat later. It's just as yummy day two! We love the staff who have been there for years! Really don't get what the hype is about. Ordered oxtails for delivery and they tasted extremely bland and dry reminded me of school cafeteria beef cooked in browning sauce no flavor or spice. Also the plantains were really soggy with gross texture not the nice crunchy outside plantains I'm used to. Most basic and tasteless oxtail dish I've ever had. First time having Cuban food and I was sold! The portions were huge and so..were all of the flavors. I swear I could taste the garlic the next morning Came here for a birthday dinner along with 20 people and our waitress did an amazing job. She even allowed us to split the check however we wanted. I just didn't get the WOW factor I (for some reason) thought I would get. Those Caribbeans sure know how to cook, and cook damn well. Savory and pungent flavors are definitely their forte with their signature use of garlic, onions, vinegar, tangy marinades and sauces immersed into their food. And Versailles is definitely an authentic Cuban restaurant. And the food here is o u t o f c o n t r o l. They have quite an extensive menu of Cuban dishes -- pork, chicken, beef, seafood and most of them are all verrry good. With so many choices, it was really hard to decide what to order. Paella, Lechon asado? In the end I decided on their namesake "famous" dish, Pollo Versailles. While waiting for the food to arrive, we had the complimentary garlic house bread -- crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. It tastes very similar to french baguette with a deep garlic flavor. My companion, a Dominican, insisted on sharing the Yucca appetizer. "It's an acquired taste", he said. But I like it! It tastes like a cross of fried potatos and fried yams and is meant to be drizzled with a garlic vinegar sauce. The Pollo Versailles "Garlic chicken" was super moist, tender, and juicy. And full of garlic flavor and garnished with onions.... I was surprised, but it is actually the whole chicken.... and it was just phenomenal! Even the "white meat" is super juicy... and dipping it in its drippings and sauce is wonderful. Moro and carmelized plantains accompanied the dish. Moro is a traditional cuban dish -- a myriad of black beans mix with rice, which is very good for those who like beans. The plantains were excellent -- I normally don't like to mix my entrees with anything sweet, but this time the plantains complements the main dishes very well. I also had the opportunity to try the Ropa Viejas, Shredded beef. The flavor from that dish is very flavorful, like a good ol' pot roast.. My breath was probably kicking up a storm after eating here... but damn the flavor from those garlic and onions makes it well worth it!! But being banned from Versailles is just not a risk I'm willing to take. So, self-control, I'm counting on you. Versailles has a warm, casual vibe about it and it's easy to love. As soon as I walk through that front door, I feel like I'm being welcomed into their Cuban family and then I'm hit with the overwhelming scent of garlic. LOTS of garlic. It screams first date danger. The food is consistently tasty and although I always tell myself I should try something new, I always stay true to their famed garlic chicken ($10.95). I can't say no to crispy chicken skin....my self-control can only handle so much in a day. Plus, the chicken is covered in a flavorful pungent, vinegary marinade topped with white onions, which makes it even harder for me to stray. The dish comes with fried plantains and it's the perfect sweet and starchy ending to my meal. Hopefully I'll give in and try something new the next time around. Now, parking is definitely a challenge here, but that does not give me the right for the 4-star rating. The 4-star rating is for the restroom. Restroom is a big part for any restaurant. It was a "Family Day" with my boyfriend's extended family and we were headed to dinner at Versailles at his cousin's bequest. She warned me, "You will end up with garlic breath afterwards". That seems to be the keyword here (as you can see from other reviews): garlic. I think we can conclude that Versailles is not the favorite restaurant of the vampire population. Arriving to a rather packed and casual establishment, Versailles didn't take too long to accommodate our group of 9. However, even the walk to the tables was a masterful circus trick, as they are so close together that just putting one foot in front of the other is an awkward balancing act. This began the somewhat poor service of the night. Although our group was distracted with the amazingly soft (yet crisp crust) of the table-side garlic bread; the waters took forever to arrive. I understand we were a group of 9, but it is only water. Once the waiter did arrive and was ready to take our orders, he seemed rushed and rude versus courteous and wanting a high tip. My unhappiness escalated when I ordered my meal which comes with beans/rice and plantains as sides. I hate bananas and plantains and don't eat beans so my boyfriend asked if I could substitute yucca, as that is the practice at the other Versailles location. Instantly, the waiter said "No" in a very rude tone. My boyfriend asked if we could substitute anything, even a salad to which he again cut him off and said "No!". My boyfriend's cousin, who is Puerto Rican and thus speaks Spanish, tried to clear it up and asked the waiter what could be done in my situation. Suddenly, he was kind and helpful to her and offered a salad as my side. My boyfriend and I felt very snubbed and he instantly stated that he felt like it was a racist situation where the waiter was only kind the moment someone spoke Spanish to him. No, it wasn't a lack of English skills if that is what you are thinking. To say the least, we felt unwelcome and biased against. The highlight of the meal was the food, itself. I ordered the Bistec Picado (sirloin steak strips in a simmering blend of bell peppers, onions, olive oil and tomato sauce -- $11.99) while my boyfriend ordered the Chuletas De Puerco (Pork chops marinated in citrus juice with garlic mojo sauce, sauteed onions, and herbs -- $11.99). First things first, the portions are HUGE for such a price. My side salad was a meal in itself, although it came without dressing and the waiter said they had no dressing but would bring me oil and vinegar. Um??? My dish was excellently spiced with a stew-like consistency and decadent with onions and peppers. The steak was tender and flavorful. My boyfriend's pork chops has almost a Peruvian taste (due to the citrus) and were lovely on my tongue although it has some tough spots. Again, the portions are very large and will surely result in leftovers for your lunch the next day. Basically, Versailles offers large portions and delicious food at low prices but the environment and the staff is not in tip-top shape. Don't expect a high-end experience. I stopped in here for a sandwich Cubano on a Sunday afternoon, all by my lonesome. I have no problem going out alone, but this place made me feel completely... extraneous. Yes, that's the right word. They sat me at a large table right in the middle of the room. It kind of felt like a spotlight. Well, okay, I can deal with that, but the waiter acted like I was a chore to serve. I understand he also had a party of about a dozen seated near me, but can one little girl really be so much trouble? He hardly said two words to me, and while he made sure his larger party had everything they needed, I had to flag him down several times. Flag him down as he was walking past me like I wasn't even there. It took at least 5 minutes to order a beverage, much longer to order my meal. Every minute feels longer when you're by yourself with nothing to occupy your time. Oh, but my meal. It was delicious! Fresh Cuban bread, ham, pork, swiss, and pickles. Oh so good. When you get this sandwich, it looks like it's lacking in the meat department, but it is so flavorful once you bite in, and you realize you don't need it stacked high. Although the French fries were French fries as usual, they were hot off the fryer and crispy. Unfortunately, my meal was overshadowed by the lackluster service. My server didn't bring my check when he brought the to-go box, and I had to wait quite a while before I could grab his attention again. This was one of the very few experiences I've had where I couldn't wait to get out of a restaurant. So, Versailles restaurants are somewhat of an LA staple. Yet, until last week, I'd never even set foot into a single location. This one happens to be right down the street from me. This particular location is on Ventura Blvd., easy to find, decent parking, they have extra parking in the back too. The interior is very, very bland. It's just a big room with tables and chairs in it, very little ambiance. My friend kept telling me about their garlic sauce, and how I should choose a plate that showcased their specialty sauce, so I went with the half chicken. Before hand, they bring out some garlic bread, which was very good. It's sliced baguette, that look to be individually toasted with a heavy dosage of butter and garlic. Shortly after the garlic bread, actually pretty quickly, our food shows up. The chicken dish is half of a rotisserie chicken on a plate, that's drenched in their garlic sauce, topped with sliced raw onions. It also comes with a plate of plain white rice, black beans, and some fried plantains. Their sauce lived up to the hype. It was more citrus-y and less garlic-y to me though. The chicken was ok, the breast was too dry, too overly cooked. Really, over cooking a chicken, kills it for me. This place should take a page from Costco, now THEY know how to cook a perfect rotisserie chicken! The rice was rice, I mean you can't eff up white rice. The plantains also, simple and good, but nothing special. The black beans though, stood out as being above average for me. I'm not a fan of liquid-y beans, and these definitely were not. They were a thicker consistency, which in my opinion, goes much better with rice and plantains. Overall, the place was good, BUT, it's all in that garlic sauce, as a matter of fact, they bottle and sell their sauce. Without that sauce (which wouldn't be very difficult to duplicate at home), their food is sub-par. I mean the chicken was pretty dry, again especially the breast portion. Get yourself a bottle of their sauce, and a rotisserie chicken from Costco, and you're set! Service was fast and friendly. WOW she got a face lift! Garlic soaked carpets have been replaced with big ceramic tiles. Mirrored walls have been textured and painted with warm tropical tones. Acoustic ceilings have been smoothed over, vaulted and adorned with classic wrought iron chandeliers. Paintings have replaced grease boards. The menu is the same as before but the bar offering has been expanded to included soju based mojitos. My favorites menu items are still arroz con pollo and ropa vieja. I also love the guava shells! What you probably don't know is this: If you should decide to get anything "To Go" that has their infamous Garlic - Lemon Sauce slathered on it, Please, I IMPLORE YOU, it is MANDATORY that YOU ASK THEM to DOUBLE BAG IT or IF you are really Paranoid about your Precious Car, HAVE IT TRIPLE BAGGED. IF YOU DON"T? If you don't, and their Industrial Strength Garlic & Lemon Sauce just happens to splash or spill onto your upholstery or carpeting? Listen Carefully because I'm only going to tell you once: IT - WILL - BE - THERE - FOR - LIFE! Once it has soaked into "whatever", you can "try" all you want to remove that smell but it ain't gonna budge. I even took it in "twice" to have it professionally cleaned and "no such luck." Now you may THINK that the smell is gone after having it cleaned... but just you wait until a Hell Hot Day in Summer hits and badda bing... it's baaaaack! My 300th review!!!!!!! And i'm glad i get to write it on Versailles. My boyfriend and i were in West Hollywood for the afternoon and didn't feel like eating at any of the trendy places over there so on our way back, we decided to hit up Ventura Blvd for something more low key. We were really in the mood for something new that neither of us had ever had before, so of course we turned to Yelp. When i first heard him say "what about Cuban food?" i was kinda iffy about it, just because i'm not really a fan of Latin food in general other than Brazilian, Peruvian and Argentinian. I wasn't sure what to expect with Cuban....but after 2 seconds of looking at the menu we were both totally sold. We got there and it was pretty crowded for a thursday night, but we were greeted and seated immediately, and also brought a basket of a ton of garlic bread...but not just any garlic bread, some of the best garlic bread ever. Omg it was so good, and there was so much! Probably at least 10 pieces. And of course we devoured it all. SUPER garlicy but not so garlicy that it's spicy...it was perfect. Onto the meal. We got a couple rounds of sangria which was probably some of the best sangria i've ever had. Super strong and super delicious. Usually when you get sangria at a restaurant it's kind of hit or miss because depending on how fresh it is, it may or may not be carbonated. More times than not, it's flat and people get the wrong idea of what sangria is supposed to be like. But it was perfect here! :) yay. To eat, i ordered the bbq chicken and Dylan ordered the roasted pork. When we got our food, they brought me the wrong order! But when i looked at what they brought me i decided i'd just eat that instead because it looked and smelled SO good. Oh and not to mention it was gigantic! It was literally half a chicken, roasted perfectly and smothered with their delicious mojo criollo garlic sauce and topped with grilled onions and of course served with the most delicious side order of all time....fried plantains. Although i must say, i've had plenty of fried plantains in my day and these seemed more like fried bananas. Unless they were just SUPER ripe plantains...hmm. Either way, they were absolutely delicious and i seriously could have eaten 20 giant plates of solely that. But just a warning, while this would be a fun and pretty interesting date place, your breath is going to smell like garlic for dayyysssss haha. But it's totally worth it. Well we ate as much as we could, and when we were done it looked like we hadn't even started yet! haha. there were soooo many leftovers. It was great and lasted like 3 days practically. Oh and the best part? The bill came out to only $35 bucks! For the amount of food (&drinks) we got, it was such a great deal. We'll definitely be coming back, and soon. Have been enjoying Versailles for years. Ambience is very old, nothing to get excited about. But that's fine because we come for the food!!! It's so tasty and consistently good. My faves are the oxtail stew- so juicy , flavorful and tender. The lengua ( beef tongue) is very tender and so good. Both are in a tomato based, Cuban spice sauce- served with white rice, black beans and fried plantains. Can't eat this stuff on a regular basis, but what a treat! Forget the chichi upscale "head to tail" restaurants that challenge you to eat these delicacies- this is the real deal way to eat head to tail!! My friend wanted Cuban for her birthday and this was one of the few nearer places around us. I don't know why there isn't many Cuban places near where we live though, because this food was good! The place itself is in a smaller shopping center, but we found parking easily enough out front. There's parking in the back if that's all full though. The restaurant itself is relatively large and nicely decorated as well. And the service was great too! There's really something for everyone on the menu too! I can be a bit of a picky eater sometimes, but I was willing to try the appetizers other people ordered! I got a chicken sandwich on Cuban bread and it was sooooo good!
