Ordered Take Out, a dollar more or so than Sergio's up the street. This is Italian done dry/American style. Don't expect your broccoli rabe to be smothered in the juices it was cooked in, nope. Dry but good. Not a bad thing, it's a style. (Where are all my juices from cooking the rabe down and the sausage?, disappeared.) Not used to this "style". Chicken Francaise, same thing. Where is my lemon butter-white wine reduction this was cooked in?... Nope, gone. Dry. Although is a different take on it. Side Pasta with Sauce?... Not that great, maybe this is the sauce I should use to garnish my rabe and Chicken?... To me this is "All-American" Italian Food, if you like that sort of thing. No Juices. I like my Rabe smothered with a bit of the oils it was cooked in, I like my Chicken Francaise to be slightly floating on a top of a pool of white-wine and butter reduction. I think juices make the flavor, but flavor still exists with this, it's just done a different way. This is NOT the place to have a piece of bread to sop up the juices. There are none. read more

Mediocre Food ~ High Prices ~ TERRIBLE Service Had heard good things about Vespucci s. Arrived at 7PM on a Friday night. It was extremely busy. Waited approx 20 mins, but that was OK. When 7 of us were finally seated at a center round table, the atmosphere simply disappeared, as the dining room was a big empty room with absolutely no privacy. The waitress was rude & unfriendly. She did not give her name or ask us if we wished to start with appetizers. When she took our drink order, she turned around and walked away. The crab cakes were good, the calamari was frozen not fresh, extremely bland. When the waitress finally returned, we asked if it would be possible to do 3 separate checks. She gave us a nasty look and replied I write the orders on paper and will NOT provide separate checks . We gave her the benefit of the doubt, however, we don t understand why she could not write 3 separate checks. The main course was less than par, from the pizza to the lasagna and even pasta and meatballs were mediocre. The waitress NEVER checked on us to see if we needed or wanted anything or even to ask if the meals were OK. We had to get another waiter to get grated cheese & crushed red pepper AND water. When we were ready to leave, my grandmother asked for a to go container, to which the waitress sneered at her and said ALREADY???? She never offered us coffee or dessert menu. My bridal shower was held here a few weeks ago and everything from food to service was fantastic. They have a room that's somewhat new and is a perfect space for an event like this. They were very accommodating and let us pick the appetizers and lunch items to offer. People especially like the stuffed shrimp and eggplant parm. The hostess was friendly and attentive and looked out for us while our server was MIA. The Burrata was good, nothing special but tasty. Unless you like your salad drenched in dressing, ask for it on the side. The eggplant Parmesan was flavorful. The calamari fra Diavlo was awesome. The waitress took our order and delivered it, but never came back to check on us. When we complained she said "I was waiting at the espresso machine". No apology.. Nor did she ask how our meal was or ask if we needed anything at any point. We asked for the check and she simply said "thank you". Their pasta sauces are extremely tasty; excellent eggplant parm; succulent meatballs; and a wonderful salmon entree. All of their baked pastas are great as is their pizza. I'm upgrading my rating, because Vespucci's continues to upgrade the experience. They recently took over the other half of the building (previous rental was to a nail salon), broke out the dividing wall, and doubled the size of their dining area. It now is more spacious and, more importantly, less noisy and claustrophobia-inducing. I spoke with one of the owners, who said that this was the space they had wanted in the first place. Walls and ceilings are hand-painted murals, and the food remains way over my little town's head (that is to say, send your out of town guests there if they want an excellent meal!). read more

went to vespuccis a little after three monday after christmas with my wife, daughter-in-law and grandson. after sitting a while the waitress came over with new dinner menus as i guess the lunch menu she gave us when we entered wasn't available anymore. ordered a bud light bottle as the waitress couldn't tell me if the drafts were 12 or 16 oz. (said she could show me the glass) . salads came with bread and butter, some oil for dipping. the butter was hard as most restaurants give you. before our salad was done, out comes our dinner which i really dislike as i really like to enjoy my salad without trying to make room for all the dinner dishes. the chicken parm was sort of dry and crispy, the seafood alfredo was good. we had a "to go" dish for our son chicken scarpariello i believe it was, and side of pasta. with an added bonus it came with one of those small christmas light that must have fallen off from who knows where in the kitchen. credit given as it was on top where our son saw it without actually putting it in his mouth. quite disappointed with the whole dinner actually. dont think ill be back read more

Not bad at all! We usually only go to Rossini's in town but decided to go here a couple nights ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I had the lobster ravioli ... YUMMY! They were very delicious. My boyfriend ordered the pizza w/ prosciutto, shrimp & garlic and he enjoyed it very much. Bread was delicious also. Great place to go for a cheap night out. read more

Chicken Parm was not great - a slice of mozz over each piece of chicken, some sauce poured over and run under the broiler. To be fair, I told the waitress that the cheese was not even melted and she brought a new plate - but you cannot fix what you do not do right. We ordered calamari as an app. It was rather bland. We've dined in before, but more often, my husband and I do take-out since we have little guys who are in bed. The last 2 times, I have ordered the lobster ravioli but asked them to make an exception and do a vodka sauce instead - in a word, AMAZING. They should add it to the menu regularly. My husband gets the eggplant and loves it. For the very reasonable price, we each got a large salad with plenty of dressing, and a huge loaf of bread (not that I needed it, but nice anyway!) They're always very pleasant on the phone, the food is done when they say it will be, and it's nice and fresh. I love that it's right down the street from us! read more

First time here tonight and just okay in my book...not sure why everyone loves the bread here ..its just not that good...and the olive oil and garlic served with the bread is much better tasting at carabbas restaurant. We ordered the chicken marsala and chicken parmagiana..good portions and both acceptable but not anything to write home about. salads exceptionally tart....i think the peppers on the salads are marinated in vinegar. Service was friendly and attentive....however as we were leaving and left the payment and tip on the table i noticed two female employees suddenly dash out of the back room and approach the table that we had just vacated...i truly believe they thought we were skipping out on the bill....rather off- putting.. Probably the best overall restaurant in Cheshire. The prices are reasonable considering the quality of their food. Definitely in the top 3 for pizza. Although the restaurant by southington is more acclaimed, the atmosphere is terrible and the service is atrocious. We had sit down dinner at the restaurant this past weekend. Our service was poor, incredibly slow though the restaurant was not busy and there were plenty of waitstaff present. We were not given water and 1of our appetizers arrived before our drink order was brought over. I was excited to see Rhode Island clam chowder as a special. Usually you get stuck with only New England style. It was not chowder. They served me Chicken soup with clams instead of chicken. It was chicken broth, carrots and celery with clams. Booo. We ordered dinners and pizza, when the pizza came we had no plates. When my salad came, I swear it was topped with just white vinegar and so sour it couldn't have possibly been a real vinegarette dressing. My ravioli was tasty and the portion was decent. I'm also certain they heat frozen ravioli and do not make anything from scratch. It was 15 minutes after we finished before our leftovers were wrapped. It then took an additional 20 minutes for the check to come after we requested it. We left full but disgruntled and much later than we anticipated. Grab a pizza to go if Mr B's and Rosinis are closed, but don't bother eating there. The Italian competition is stiff in Cheshire and this is slipping down the list of favorite restaurants in town. read more

My bf and I just moved into an apartment nearby and we wanted something quick for dinner. We decided pizza would be a quick meal and we could relax a bit after a long day of unpacking. I looked on Google for local pizza places, expecting to see some chains and various small pizza shops but vespucci's happened to be first on the search. I decided to check the menu and we quickly loved the idea of the Gorgonzola specialty pizza. I called at 8:50 (they close at 9:30) and asked if they were still taking orders. The woman on the other end of the phone was extremely friendly and said they were. We ordered our pizza and in 20 short minutes it was ready to be picked up. The woman who rang us out was very friendly and polite and didn't seem to rush us even though they were closing soon. We got back and finally sat down to eat our pizza and it was delicious! It was even delicious as left overs the next day! I would definitely recommend this place to someone because of the yummy food but also the great customer service! read more

Vespucci's Restaurant is our favorite place. The food is wonderful. Of course all of the typical Italian dishes are delicious but the steaks, chops and seafood here are simply out of this world... They go out of their way to prepare every specific dish just as you asked for it. The presentation of the dishes is always something to see. Not only is the atmosphere warm and cozy but the staff at this restaurant from the owner to the waitresses/waiters are the best. We have gone to this restaurant several times a week since it opened and have always walked away happy. This restaurant is the whole package...great food, great atmosphere and great staff! I ordered the Sicilian pizza for the first time. One with pepperoni & another with sausage. I was serving it later in the day, so had to reheat them. Each pizza was cut into 16 big pieces. I cut all the pieces in half & still had plenty of leftovers. The crust was crisp on the bottom. The sauce had a good flavor & there was plenty of cheese and meat. Everyone loved the taste of the pizza. I would definitely serve the Sicilian pizza for future football parties. read more

When I lived here, this was our go-to place when we wanted an Italian dinner. The eggplant parmigiana is perfect! Docking one star because the pasta was once over-cooked and a waitress was a bit rude (it was a Saturday afternoon with only 1 other table full; I guess she knew them and was chatting so loudly we could barely think. While dining in this restaurant, the waitress who was hurriedly serving our dinner, spilt my friends hot melted butter, all over my shirt. she barely apologized and left. Our waitress came over and was very nice, not much could be done, it was soaked through my shirt, onto my bra and into my jeans. I had to sit through my entire dinner with this greasy, buttery smelling shirt on that was extremely uncomfortable. The owner never came over to the table, and I was given the glass of wine that I had ordered upon arrival for free. The next day I called to speak with the owner, but he was to BUSY to speak with me, I left my name, number and what had happened, they assured me he would call back. The return call was from a woman who claimed to be the head waitress and again the owner was to BUSY to speak with me. He says he apologizes and bring us your dry cleaning bill and we will pay for it I was very disappointed in how this hole thing was handled, and the response from the owner was insulting read more

Have been ordering take out from this local restaurant for some time. While we were dining on take out this evening my daughter discovered a beetle in her salad. We contacted management to let them know of the situation. The family was not enthused about finishing their meals and we requested a full refund. Most of my experiences at Vespucci's have been good. The menu could use a little change once in a while but the pasta and fish entrees are good. New Year's Eve 2014 wasn't so good... will not go there again on a special occasion... very disappointing... The restaurant seemed to be overbooked and we were told that some people had reservations but they were also seating those just walked in without a reservation...we had made our reservation a week in advance. We were seated at a tiny table against the wall in a corner; the room soon filled up and the noise was almost unbearable. We waited a very long time for our meals as we watched the servers going outside an emergency door that was right next to us to get more tables and chairs that were on the ground outside. My lobster risotto seemed to have overcooked lobster that was somewhat rubbery. We planned to share a dessert.. chocolate mousse that came with whipped cream.. we sent it back because the cream tasted like it was on the verge of going sour... we got another mousse with no whipped cream and this time it tasted like the dessert had been left uncovered in a refrigerator for a length of time. I think I will just stay home next New Year's Eve and cook my own dinner! read more

Came here with my family for high hopes as everyone I know brags about this place. Having entered inside it seemed friendly and calm. Our waitress was friendly and quiet. We ordered our meals and received them shortly. Our salads barely had any dressing in them and upon receiving my meal, it looked delicious but tasted like cardboard. The vegetables were cold, the chicken parmigiana was tasteless , the chicken florentine was dry and last but not least I received a chicken bone in my chicken Vespucci! I could barely hear my family over the sound of a waitress vacuuming right next to me. I was unhappy with my experience. And not to mention they didn't have a choice for soup or salad. ITS ONLY SALAD! If you want ranch, you're out of lucky as seeing how they don't have any. Speaking of dressings, the waitress messed up my dressings, not once but twice. The waitress even realized that the goat cheese salad had no dressing after asking ME if it had any, to which I replied no. The calamari tastes like it was chewing on a tire. This restaurant continues to be my and my family's favorite in the area for several years. The food is great (we often order one of the specials because they're always so enticing and they do not disappoint), the service is good and friendly. Great garlic-laden dipping oil with the bread, great salad that still comes with the meal (unlike so many other restaurants), creative and tasty dinners, whether it be seafood, braised lamb, beef or pork, duck, traditional Italian dishes, and more. I swear I have no connection to this restaurant other than being a very happy and grateful patron. Tonight I visited a local chain restaurant and so regretted not going to our favorite place, Vespucci's, since the chain prices are now pricier and the quality cannot even touch Vespucci's. Thank you to the chef/owner, you are doing a lot of things right! Even when I go into NYC to a restaurant and spend WAYYY more money, I end up thinking our local Vespucci's costs a lot less and yet the quality is the same or better! read more
