The staff was nice but I took my 5 month old puppy there with kennel cough. The vet must have been a new graduate or something. She looked extremely young (which wasn't an issue), but she prescribed him hydrocodene. Why on earth would she prescribe him that? I had to take him to my primary vet a few days later and received an antibiotic. I should have questioned her about it, but it was 4am, and I could barely see straight. read more

I had to rush my pet here late at night in critical condition. They took her in right away and explained every step of the way what they were doing and what was going to happen. They explained all my options and helped me understand what was going on. The doctor was so kind and helpful. Unfortunately, her condition worsened after a few hours and after a diagnosis the best option was to put her out of any further suffering and put her to rest. The whole staff made a horrible and difficult situation as comfortable as possible. Every single staff member I dealt with, including reception and the doctor, were all so kind and caring from start to finish. Only down side is the expensive bill, but that is to be expected with an emergency vet. read more

I took my dog there early last week and had a very positive experience. NO SERVICES were pushed on me. I was well informed throughout the visit. Shane was super as well as Dr. Shanks. I have no complaints whatsoever. There are a couple private rooms which I'm sure are available on request. I was concerned about MY dog not anyone else who was there. I felt my dog was being cared for in an appropriate and caring matter. Costs should be expected to be higher as it takes a big overhead to run 24/7. I would not hesitate to use them again! read more

I called Saturday night at 8:45pm to ask a question in regards to a injury my dog had, and Moira (sorry if I am spelling wrong) was so nice and helpful over the phone that I decided bringing my dog in was the best option rather than waiting for our vet to see us Tuesday. Everyone was really kind and upbeat which made me feel better about my dogs situation. They all had good energy which not only calmed me down, but my dog Gordo definitely was loving the attention he was getting. Everyone from the moment we got there to the time we left was super friendly, informative and you could tell loved animals. Really glad I took my dog in this evening so he could start his antibiotics and start to feel better. I wish they were a primary vet facility because I hope to never go back for any emergencies! I brought my dog here in the evening because she suddenly started showing signs of bloat. I'd never heard of this place prior to bringing my dog here last night but it was the second emergency vet I called and the first to say they had room for my dog. First, the person at reception couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. We were then brought into the triage area. I've never been to an ER set up this way - it is essentially one large room with several triage stations set up, a few seating areas, a few private rooms off to the side and the vets/nurses have their desks right there in the main triage area. You are with your pet the whole time they are treating them and they let you participate in the treatment, for example they asked if I wanted to hear my dogs heartbeat when they were checking her blood pressure. They also explained everything they were doing in the moment. While there were other families there with their pets, you would think it would be chaotic and loud but it was the opposite. The team was incredibly organized, calm and quiet which kept the pet parents calm and quiet. It was cool to see the nurses/vets in action and how they communicate/work together. Literally everything they are doing is visible to the pet parent in the moment so there are no questions about what is happening. They did move more serious patients and their families into private rooms for privacy. I've never seen a set up like this but I really like it and appreciated the transparency and being able to be with my dog the entire time. Kudos to the team with how organized, efficient, communicative, genuinely collaborative and compassionate they were with each other and the patients! read more

My first time here and my last one. My Ellie die. I believe if they didn't make me wait 5 hours before seen her, this could have been avoided. I signed in to their website 3:19pm. I arrived there 6:36. My Ellie was seen close to midnight. At the door, I wished they could have told me go to an exotic veterinarian instead of making me wait. They couldn't do X-ray to check for egg binding or blood work for lack of calcium. Two injections, the lady was shaking, I don't even know if the first injection was put correctly because her feathers got wet with solution injected. First at my arrival, they put me in a unclean room, there was dog/cat hair all over. Seat, floor, checking table, etc. Then, they need it the room so I waited in my car close to 11pm. They called me to tell me, it was Ellie's turn. They took me to an entrance waiting area, not even a room. This entrance has blood on the door, walls, windows, chair legs, the carpet was so dirty. I don't understand how the even think of putting an unstable pet, there. I waited here for another 49 minutes before Vet came. The doctor came, it took her less than 2 minutes to decide let's give her two injections and tomorrow take your Ellie to a an exotic veterinarian. They say they will call so this exotic veterinarian sees me next day and transfer records, they failed to do so. If you love your pet as much we loved our Ellie , please don't take a risk here. I brought my fur baby Foxy in for vomit and diarrhea and refusing to eat, the vet saw her after a 5hr wait and said we needed to do an Xray, I agreed and they did the Xray and had to send it out to be interpreted by a "specialist " after the xray she said they just see alot of gas and it can be an obstruction or not you have to come back tomorrow and do another xray, so at this point I'm out almost $900 with no answer, no treatment plan, no medicine. I asked if I could get a discount for the second xray and she said no. I don't have alot of money so that put me in a horrible position because I had to take my baby home still sick and with no answers. The worst part is that she continued to vomit and at that point I didn't want her suffering so I had to start thinking if I had to put her down since I couldn't afford another xray and did not want her to suffer which was devastating. Myself and my partner suffer from anxiety and depression and this really put us in a bad spot. On Tuesday morning I took her to her primary vet which was able to look at the xray, without having to send it out to a "specialist " and he also examined her and based on his exam,he saw that she was having gas and prescribed her omeprazole which worked and she started to feel better the very next day. It's unbelievable that you call this VEG group as a place that cares for pets when clearly it's all about the money for you guys. I will recommend to as many people as I know and the rescue group I worked with to never go here. The vet that saw my Foxy is extremely incompetent. She saw the gas on the xray and didn't give her any medication for it instead wanted us to get her another xray because of course that would make more money and didn't care that my poor dog was suffering through all of this. Incredible. What a waste of time and money and most importantly it's sad how much you don't care about these poor pets. read more

Very disappointing visit. My dig was 14 yrs old with liver cancer and hurt his leg. He was obviously close to dying. They examined his leg for about 2 minutes, wrote a script for unnecessary medicine and charged me over $200. The employees were cold and uncaring despite my family's obvious distress. The vet assured me that she had started my dig on his pain meds, but when I called to confirm that had happened she apparently forgot. read more

I called the Lincoln Park location about my dog who I was extremely concerned about, explained what was going on, was put on hold, and then was told no doctor could get to the phone and based off what I told them that I should take her in or I could wait for a phone call back from one of their doctors. During the hold time my dog started to perk up so I felt better and decided to wait for the phone call from a doctor. Over 3 hours later I still did not receive a call from any doctor from the vet. I called back referencing my dog who they originally in the first call claimed to take all her information about to discuss what happened, what I should monitor or if they believed I should bring my dog in because of the original cause of concern or because started acting normal again if it could wait until morning to see my vet. And to my surprise a "doctor" answered their main line. I explained the situation and was immediately met with extreme rudeness, was talked to like I was an idiot (I'm a NICU nurse), was given a potential diagnosis of a seizure like it wasn't a big deal, and before I could say anything or ask any questions he told me there was an emergency walk in he had to go take care of and hung up. I'm sorry, but if this emergency vet is so busy they couldn't originally get a doctor to talk to me when I first called or have one call me back, then how when I call back hours later they have a doctor now triaging the phone calls and also being the only one running to an "emergency" like it's Grey's Anatomy? I will never be reaching out to this group again and I recommend no one in an emergent situation do so either. read more

I went in because my 3 month puppy had cosmetic wax in his eye. The front staff were very friendly. However, when it was time to take the vitals it all went down hill. Mind you, this is my first time at their emergency room (they were aware because it is the first question they ask). My puppy is obviously very young still so he tends to get very excited around new people. He was having a hard time trying to stay still so my partner was attempting to calm him while the nurse took his vitals. The nurse then stated, "I do this all day." Very rude. When time came around for my puppy to see the doctor, he was fearful so he was hiding behind me and growling. Mind you, this is 3 months puppy. The doctor stated to my puppy, "How am I supposed to help you when you're growling at me." Very unprofessional. When I explained that there was cosmetic wax on his eye he proceeded to tell me that he didn't know how to take it off so he would search it up. Very unprofessional once again, considering this is supposed to be a professional specialized in animals. He didn't even attempt to touch my puppy. Dr asked for me to lift my puppy's eye to check for any irritation. read more

We are so lucky to have this wonderful emergency vet clinic in Chicago. Last night we had to take our sweet 9 month old pup in because he was extremely lethargic and we were scared he had gotten into something. I can't thank the doctor and staff enough. The second we called they sent over a text message to check us in while we were on our way. As soon as we got there someone ran out to meet us as the door. The doctor called within minutes of dropping off our sweet boy. She was calm and reassured us that he was going to be ok. She even offered to keep our pup there overnight so we could get some rest. I don't understand why this was so enjoyable!!! The emergency vet is usually terrifying and sad, but somehow I left VEG in a great mood? My dumbass doggo snatched a BIC lighter off my countertop and ate it. VEG was so understanding. the staff was terrific. I love that this place is human hospital triage style, so unlike the other emergency vets in chicago, you can stay with your pet in a large room and see everything that's going on. You're amongst all the staff and drs so you feel included and in the know. they are just so nice and empathetic. my dog was fine so they didnt even charge me! you can however, leave a donation for a general fund at reception. i'm never going to another emergency vet. these people have my business for life (and tbh it will be a lot of business because i adopted a ding dong adorable idiot!) read more

I would give 5 stars but I waited 5 hours to see a doctor :( but honestly I love this location! They helped so much I went to 4 different hospitals to find out what's wrong with my puppy and this hospital was sooo generous and helped me to make sure my puppy is ok and they definitely try not to over price you and only do tests that they knew I needed instead of just doing whatever test they think you need! From the moment of intake to the time we left, every single one of the care givers was absolutely amazing. Friendly, patient, informative. Sitting back in triage I was able to see how the staff interact with each other. They clearly love what they do. Someone came in and announced "Triage" and everyone in the room chimed in with a "Thank you". It's clear the leadership here has done an amazing job of building a great company culture. Which made my experience here, seamless, comforting, and overall satisfied. If I could give a 10 star review I would. Gone are the days of ER Vets treating customers like a dollar sign. Everyone here is amazing, compassionate, kind and knowledgeable. We were under duress, knowing that our sweet boy had to leave this world. The doctor (i believe it was Dr Blackburn) , the nurse, and assistants, Shane was one of them, made us feel so comfortable. They gave us the time and privacy to say our goodbye and give some extra love to our beloved chihuahua Charlie. It was a horrendous day, knowing the decision we had to make. This place is amazing! My lil guy decided to chew up his bed which caused him to get sick. He wouldn't eat but when he would drink water it would just come right back out (sorry for the tmi) so I started calling local vets and due to COVID everything was by appointment. Luckily I came across VEG and omg am I thankful for them. The vet and staff were amazing they were so friendly and reassured me my lil guy was in good hands. The process to check in was easy and we were seen within minutes of arriving. Unfortunately due to current circumstances I wasn't able to go in but I'm more the positive they were amazing with him. The vet called me and we set out a plan to help my lil guy get better. She answered all my questions and concerns. Super sweet and understanding. I was then able to pay online and soon after I received a text telling me my lil guy is ready to go home. I am honestly amazed that a place like this does exist. Thank you to everybody for all the help and support. Do I ever wanna go to the ER for my lil guys...no! But if need it be than this is the place I will go to! I have been here twice now- once with my parrot (they treat exotics!!!) and now with my kitten, and both times the staff was amazing, kind and attentive. Last night they had a super long wait- full moon seems to affect animals I guess like human ER's! but rather than have us wait, they allowed us to drop our kitten off and took care of him overnight (without charging me a boarding fee (which I was FEARFUL to see the final charges! but thankfully not!) and gave us a call this morning when he was seen. They took good care of him overnight, and loved on him (I can tell by how much they gushed about him, you cant fake that level of cuteness overload gushing, (and if so- then they need to be in the acting field instead!) and treated him with an antibiotic shot and pain meds. The fee's seemed to be on point. The core visit cost itself was 2x a normal vet visit, but its an ER so thats typical, and additionally they didnt overcharge on the other things. It was just the items themselves. No hidden fees. I def recommend them. read more

Unfortunately had to visit VEG for the first time yesterday for some concerns with our puppy. Every single staff member was knowledgeable, welcoming, and so so kind to us and our pup. Dr. Cox specifically made us feel so much better about coming in for something that could've seemed minor. She was reassuring, supportive, and her overall demeanor is just so pleasant. They were honest about pricing too - they even suggested we go to our primary vet for a certain test to save money. Hoping I don't have to make another trip here - but if I do I know our pup is in the absolute BEST hands! read more

Everyone at VEG was wonderful! I brought my dog in with some concerning emergency symptoms at 4am on a Sunday. I was a mess, what with her being so sick and the time of day. Dr Cox and all the staff was ready to help, explained everything clearly and succinctly, and they encouraged me to stay with my dog as they ran tests and administered treatment. The price for what they did felt reasonable, too - about $1000 for admission, many blood tests, abdominal scan, IV fluids, and steroid treatment. They called me promptly after treatment was done and successful, so I was able to pick up my pup ASAP. Hopefully we'll never need to return to VEG, but if we do, I know my dog will be in great hands. read more

My Sandi was in bad shape the night before going to VEG. I checked in with Mandy and as soon as I got back to my car my dog immediately gained strength to get up on her own and I was in total amazement. Even Mandy at the front desk said a miracle happened The staff was very friendly and welcoming and I loved the open concept. Dr. Nicole and her assistants took their time in explaining every single detail about my dogs condition and Dr. Nicole even wrote out the necessary instructions I needed to take in caring for my dog. My dog's regular veterinarian has never treated us in this manner and we have been with that vet for over 10yrs. Dr. Nicole and her whole staff were absolutely wonderful. They also switched my dog's meds and she is doing wonderful with some added prayers, too! I loved our visit and please do not hesitate to take your dog in for care. A second opinion will save their life! Tell Beautiful Mandy at the front desk that Sandi sent you by the way we had forgot to get Sandi nails trimmed however 1 week later we were in the neighborhood and called in and Mandy with her sweet animal loving self took us in immediately! I am so grateful for the attention and sincere care that Veterinary Emergency Group gave my cat, Kai. From the second I called, I knew my concerns with his breathing problems were being taken seriously. Throughout the process, everyone I spoke to was very knowledgable and helpful. They took time to explain things to me thoroughly and answer all my questions. I also appreciate that the pricing and different paths of treatment were clearly communicated ahead of time. Kai unfortunately had to stay overnight but it was reassuring to wake up to text messages with a status on his health along with photos of him. Went today early in the morning and was in and out in under 2 hours! I called ahead and asked approximate wait time and she was pretty spot on. Granted that can all change if an extreme emergency came in. You are allowed in with a mask and you are involved in the process! Staff and doctor very nice! They don't take your pet away so you can't see them the whole time like some of the other places that are still making you sit in a car. I have far too much experience with ER's and can honestly say this was by far one of my best. Place is VERY clean. Free parking also another added bonus. I don't even know where to begin. Dr. Eva Kruzova and the team at VEG are angels. We brought our 1 yr old Boxer into VEG after our normal vet had performed a surgery that left our dog with a terrible infection. VEG worked immediately to save him, performing an emergency surgery to remove the infection. When he arrived they were upfront that there was a less than 50% chance he would survive. VEG is the only reason he is alive today. He had to stay several days after surgery to recover and everyone at VEG was AMAZING to us and so attentive to our dog. When we would go home to shower and get a few hours of sleep the nurses and doctors would text us updates. I cant thank VEG enough, it's a miracle our puppy is alive. read more

I came in today sobbing and panicking. I left a couple hours later smiling, hopeful, and grateful. Every single person I interacted with -- staff, vets, techs, even other clients -- was warm, helpful, gentle, understanding, and extremely knowledgeable. I mentioned that I had some traumatic experiences at previous ERs and everyone was SO patient with me, being realistic but reassuring. Not only did they get me in right away, but they checked in on me repeatedly while I waited for test results and exams. My cat was so calm and comfortable with the vets and techs. It is truly one of the most horrible feelings to rush into a vet ER, but even through my tears the nurses were so accommodating and took amazing care of my cat Lunchmeat. I could write for hours about how grateful I am, but I'll leave it at this: I have so much hope for the world and for this city knowing there are such amazing people available to treat and take care of our animals. So Laura the director was nice enough to email me a few days ago while I was grieving the situation with my 3-year-old pup whos terminal now. Laura instructed me my negative review was affecting her teams' morale. I'm so sorry during MY difficult time they're having trouble taking constructive criticism. So now that Dr. Cox and Laura were nice enough to email me with their long explanations and demands not even 1 week since I have been dealing with my dogs' situation, I finally have the time to update my review. The customer service and bedside manner are great! However, their quality to x-rays leaves a lot to be desired. It was because of their poor quality images my dogs' diagnosis and care were delayed. His situation is unique, but at this point, and trying to charge me $3000 I could at least get quality images to help with his diagnosis and treatment interventions. So, I will not be coming back and I will not be referring anyone. Laura did refund my money at least. This is a review, this is my personal opinion which I am entitled to as much as they are. If I get one more email from them or any of their entities I will be sure to update. read more

I took my dog to this emergency group after a day of what seemed like seizure-like activity, though very different from past seizures. It is nice that you can speak to a doctor on the phone to determine if you should bring your pet in, and they were able to let me know wait times. My dog received care from Dr. Figger. I did not feel that Dr. Figger performed any sort of differential diagnosis with my dog, but instead immediately made an assumption and moved on to the next patient, and I have since found from my regular vet that she indeed did misdiagnose my dog. When I have taken pets to other emergency vets in the past, they will at least talk through other potential causes of the issue at hand, particularly if the presentation is unique, but that did not occur at VEG. I did not feel heard, and felt guilted into leaving my dog for observation overnight (which I knew would be miserable for him), for a diagnosis I wasn't sure was correct. When I expressed my preference to take my dog home with meds, I was asked by a tech, "I hope you don't mind me asking this, but is it because you can't afford it?" I feel you must take care not to say anything that might pressure or guilt people into doing something when they are in a vulnerable, stressful situation, and my feeling was very much that VEG just wanted to charge me for as many things as they could. I would not recommend this emergency group, but would take your pet to MedVet or another group instead. I feel the level of medical knowledge and professionalism was at least better at MedVet. read more

My daughter brought her cat in who ingested pollen from a LILY in a bouquet of flowers. She had no idea it was highly toxic (causes kidney failure) until she sent me the "cute" pic and I panicked and told her to get to the closest vet! She went to this place. She sat for almost 90 MINUTES with her kitty waiting to be treated. With poisoning, TIME IS SO IMPORTANT!!! Their website says you will "See a doctor right away before any paperwork" because they supposedly care so much. That was a lie. They made her fill out consent forms and arrange for payment before they even saw her kitty. 24 hour treatment was going to be $1850. They wanted to keep him for 48 hours for $3600 but she can't even afford the 24 hour cost. Crazy insane expensive!!! (Luckily, she got her kitty in to a vet within 12 hours after his exposure to the lily pollen which was on his face, so we are hoping it was caught early enough). The staff was rude and indifferent to the urgency of the situation. EVERY website I read about lily poisoning says the sooner treatment begins, the better the prognosis!!! On top of it, they did not even explain to my daughter what was going to be done, what to expect, whether he'd be monitored 24 hours for that expense, nothing! She left in tears. 8 hours later, at 10pm, still no call, no update. They seem to just be worried about their payment and nothing else. She picked him up the next day after another blood test came back normal. They wanted her to come back for another test the next day...and about another $400. I would think the $1850 could include any follow up bloodwork in a fews days' time. Vets like these know how much people love their pets and take advantage with their outrageous fees and poor customer service. Pathetic. Avoid this place! read more

The worst place on earth. I was advised after hours by my vet to take my dog there. Due to vomiting and bloody diarrhea. x 12 hours. Came on so fast. He was just DX with elepisey. Just had a seizure. has just been given injectable for same. He was weak, very dehydrated, not able to walk, eyes dry and cloudy. I call my vet after hours and was advised to call this emergency vet. I call them explained the issue and was advised to bring him right in, It took over 20 mins at the entrance door to final get anyone to admit us in. Then we were taken to a back room. Ask why we were there, Advise her and FIRST!! thing out of her mouth FIRST!! thing was. "Why are you here people came here with REAL!! emergency. Excuse me!!! Real emergency!! Excuse me.. She listened to his heart took his temp and told us to go home. He is not a REAL emergency. Take him to a vet in a day or two. Excuse me!! I was told to take him here, Not only by my vet but by your person who took my call. People come here with REAL emergency.. If anything comes to you turning us away... There will be hell to pay. My husband is an attorney and his daddy. But more so I am his mommy!! I just lost my Cockatoo of 24 years.. I am no one to Fu$$ with read more

My adult son brought his bunny here last night. They had to treat him and keep him overnight. My son gave his phone number. I called to pay for it and they texted me a link to pay. I spoke with the vet and told them I was just paying and to contact my son for any updates. They called me this morning & when I called back they said that they close soon and had an attitude. They said Justin was running late. I told them they called me instead of him and e doesn't live at home and I only paid for it. She said, with sarcasm, "oh how nice, you paid for it but maybe you should of done a Google search for our hours." I said whatever the miscommunication is, I just want to make sure someone will be there because he is on his way. She then said, "how about I leave the bunny outside then." I said hun? She then said and we didn't end up using medicine that was in the estimate so I was going to not charge you but now I think I will. I said so you're going to comment fraud and animal cruelty all in one morning. She wouldn't let me speak to a manager or the vet and hung up on me. My son didn't receive a receipt either. read more
