This is now going to be my go to emergency room I bring my dog to! (Hopefully I don't ever have to again) I was amazed the moment we walked in when they immediately greeted us & rushed my husband & I WITH our dog to the back to be seen. We called on the way to make sure she could even be seen and they sent us an intake form to be filled out before we arrived. We did that in the Uber ride there. Our 8 year old dachshund had her very first seizure on our normal walk after work around 6 pm. We thought we almost lost her on wacker as we were walking through a mob of after work commuters. It was the scariest moment of our lives. After she came to we rushed her to this ER. LOVE the open concept of this ER! We were so happy to be able to go back with her while she was being seen & The fact that they treat your pets needs with urgency!!! Thank you sooo much to Cris or Kris who was our nurse. The compassion and patience she had was so different from what I've received at MedVet ER years ago. She spent so much time with our baby and answered all of our questions. She gave us her honest opinion and didn't seem salesly when talking to us about treatment options. She mentioned the bloodwork and IV could be possibly around $500 but would have the Dr. confirm. Dr. Cave was also very compassionate and sweet. She recommended we do blood work, IV and even XRays to check our dogs brain. We opted to just do bloodwork and wait to take her to a neurologist next week. The bloodwork came back in about 30 mins! While we waited I grabbed us some snacks because it was dinner time and we were STARVING! (Great snack options!!! Loved the healthy options) Loved the water dispenser with flavor options as well. The bathroom was shockingly really clean also!! These little details all made me feel better about spending $1000 on blood work that I could have done for free at Banfield with her plan. The girls working the desk were also so sweet. Highly recommend this place! Thank you to all the amazing staff for working odd late hours for our babies !!! You guys are all angels!!!

I cannot recommend VEG enough if you ever have a veterinary emergency. They specialize in all animals and have the most wonderful, transparent, hands on approach to your pet's care. Owners are very well informed every step of the way and can stay as long as they want. My brother's cat unfortunately got very sick and got the best care during his 72 hour stay. They even have a quiet room for anxious kitties that is in the back and has cat TV playing for them. VEG is a chain so be sure to check which location is the closest to you.

Our beloved cat, king of our house, fell screaming to the bathroom floor one August morning. Horrified, we rushed him here. The vet quickly assessed what had happened and got him on pain meds. She suspected he had thrown a blood clot, probably due to heart disease. Circulation tests proved her hunch had been correct, and his back legs had no blood or oxygen flow. We had to say goodbye to our sweet baby that day. They kept him comfortable while we dealt with the shock, called our daughter at school, and waited for her to join us. We all said goodbye together for well over an hour, and when we saw exhaustion in his eyes, we knew it was time. We got to hold him and tell him we loved him, and everyone was kind to us, letting us take up a little exam room for half the afternoon. This vet office made a tragic day the best it could be, letting us grieve but be close to our little guy as we said our goodbyes. I can't say enough good things about this place and the people who work here.

    Dani post overnight discharge

Can't say enough good things about VEG. Our puppy Dani had the tail end of the bone stuck in her esophagus, so we rushed her in for treatment. Dr Boiskin sat us down and explained our options and helped us determine our best option to save our puppy. Dr Boiskin and Dr Schanks began a scope to remove the bone from her esophagus and successfully saved her. From the nurses that comforted us to the overnight staff that took care of Dani, we appreciate everything VEG was able to do. They are so kind and helpful, always willing to answer questions on the phone and take the time out of their busy schedule to help you feel comfortable for what was going on at home!! Thank you, VEG, for everything you did for us and for saving our puppy Dani!!

It has been a stressful week for my cat and me. I was wasting a lot of money and time going to one emergency place on changing my cat's bandages on his tail. If I only l knew about this place earlier I would have just bite the bullet and taken him here for a tail amputation. They were able to work with me get the surgery grey needed. They were all so kind and helpful. Even the small waiting room had snacks, coffee, and flavored carbonated water. Thank you so much to staff and Dr. Natalie Gulson.

Mavis says thank you for your patience.

Update: Star added upon second visit. I cannot thank the VEG group enough. I was a witness for an alleged...hit and run involving an SUV and a small breed dog. They did everything medically possible to try and bring her back but I suspect the injuries were just too extensive. I felt so helpless in trying to comfort the young woman I just met. I want to reiterate that this was not her fault. Both her dog and her were taken to a private room. Once I found out she had a friend coming for comfort I got up to leave and the reality hit me. I can jump into action like there's no tomorrow, it's the coping and/or aftermath that gets me. I also have a syndrome that can sometimes get me faint if I stand up too fast. I wasn't thinking and soon was being caught by the staff. They made sure I was alright before I left. It was a worst case scenario situation and VEG went above and beyond for everyone involved. All who was there, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

I'm so grateful to VEG for their help when my cat Pippin needed emergency surgery. Pippin (who was ~6 months old at the time) needed linear foreign body removal surgery after finding and swallowing some string in the trash. This was my first time going through an emergency with my pet, and I was an anxious mess the entire time. The staff and docs at VEG were very kind. The staff let me stay with him in the treatment area throughout the couple of days he was there, but I also had the option to stay in the waiting room or to leave if I preferred that. It was nice to have those choices and feel comfortable visiting him whenever I wanted (which was often!!). They were always willing to provide me updates in person or over the phone, and the vets even kept me updated during the surgery. They were always very up front with me about the prognosis and possible complications at every step, which I appreciated a lot. Obviously emergency vet care does not come cheap, and I also really appreciated the support of the staff when it came to figuring out the financial parts of the care too. As a student on a school stipend, my cash flow is somewhat limited and it was a challenge to pay down the deposit. They helped me explore options such as transferring him to a different vet for surgery, and were flexible when that fell through and I needed to have the surgery at VEG. They even negotiated some of the prices when I hit the upper limit of what I could pay. I really felt that the staff at VEG cared about Pippin and wanted to give him the best care they could. I'm so thankful to them for caring for Pippin and supporting me too. It's been about 6 months, and Pippin has fully recovered and is living his best (now string-free) life. Special shout-out and thanks to Dr. Boiskin for going above and beyond for Pippin!

I have a big dog (English Mastiff) which requires a special Emergency veterinarian to care for her. One Sunday evening I was walking my puppy (about 11:30pm). I tried to enter my building through a common side entrance. A woman was at the door with a cumbersome backpack on & another guy was behind me waiting to enter the building behind us. Long story short, the oblivious woman didn't budge from her "post" by the entrance after saying "excuse me" several times. She turned to look at me then turned back as my puppy & I were trying to move past her. She knocked me backwards, I lost my grip on the door & it slammed shut AMPUTATING about 6" of my puppy's tail! My puppy yelped & flipped over backwards as she flung herself into a corner! Blood everywhere! I checked her feet. They were fine. Her legs, fine. Then I noticed her tail which was substantially shorter. I found her tail in the door. Cut to how u learned about Veterinary Emergency Group... I usually go to a well known clinic in the Northern Burbs. They were backed up & couldn't see her until 7:00am at best so they recommended VEG. I called VEG & they said "come on in..." I gave info over the phone & was VERY SURPRISED when I was created with a smile & told to come on back. The vet techs & main veterinarian were outstanding! My puppy was attended to straight away with kindness & great care/concern. I was offered to stay with her or wait out front during her examination. I stayed with her. The assessment was she lost part of her tail, broke it in two places & bone was showing. She needed surgery. A work up was done & I was presented with a "high low" estimate. *Due to the nature of VEG being only an emergency clinic, I was told it would be less expensive with her regular vet. My puppy's health comes first & due to the high risk of infection, I made the choice to have VEG perform the needed surgery. Truly, the vet & staff could not have been more kind! I was offered to go home & get some rest or wait in the waiting room or stay to watch the surgery. I crazily stayed to watch the surgery! The ending to the story is the care, speed & result of her immediate care was a great success! I sadly can not remember specific names but EVERYONE treated my puppy & myself with such empathy & compassion, I am a fan! They are rock stars! My puppy's tail, though shorter, has healed. From start to finish was approximately 4 hours & she was put completely under sedation! Hopefully I won't need them anytime soon but if I do, I know where in the City to go now! Thank you Veterinary Emergency Group! "Olive" highly recommends & appreciates! Woof. Woof!

I visited Medvet with the same pup again about six years ago for an oncologist consultation following two surgeries removing a total of four mast cell tumors. The oncologist was so knowledgeable and compassionate during the initial consultation that I was finally able to relax a bit despite not yet knowing if the cancer has metastasized. After an ultrasound and some bloodwork, he was able to give us the great news - the cancer had not metastasized. My pup has not had any health issues since. Two weeks ago, I rushed my 16.5 year old Bengal cat, Stevie, to Medvet after she suffered what appeared to be a stroke. Her health had been declining over the past year (zero health concerns prior). Our regular vet was concerned she might have cancer after reviewing bloodwork results six months ago, but since I refused to put a 16 year old cat through chemo or radiation, we decided to monitor the situation. The results of the bloodwork at Medvet ruled out every easily treatable illness... cancer likely caused the neuro issue. The Critical Care Team is phenomenal, including Doctors Vietti, Montaque and Sharpe and their amazing group of nurses Barb, Jamie, Megan, Brittney, Brit and others. We brought our dog in while having significant respiratory distress. They tried to get him to breathe on his own by using High-Flow Oxygen, with no success, and had to put him on a Ventilator. Our dog was able to breathe in oxygen but was unable to exhale the carbon dioxide as it was getting trapped in his lungs. After numerous tests, they determined that he had Eosinophilic Bronchopneumopathy (EBP), a respiratory condition that was attacking his lungs, causing inflammation and an excessive amount of secretion build-up. Because of the inflammation, the secretion build-up was partly blocking his airwaves, preventing him from being able to expel the CO2, which is very toxic and dangerous. Although they were familiar with the EBP, they never saw an instance in which it impacted a causing the airways to get blocked. Long story short they did an amazing job identifying a very unique situation and saving our dog's life. They provided great care during the week our dog was at VSC and communicated very well throughout the process. Not many dogs make it off a ventilator once they are put on one; we were one of the lucky ones. I would never go anywhere else if my dog was critically ill.

By…read morethe time we arrived, he was already doing much better, but we didn't want to take any chances. We lived only 10 minutes away and didn't have time to research other options. Looking back, it felt like a money machine. They ran a bunch of tests, including some that our regular vet later said were absolutely unnecessary. After all that, they still couldn't tell us what was wrong. What they could do was recommend leaving him overnight on oxygen for around $2.5k per night. Ridiculous! Of course I said no because he was already much better. We left with a $1.7k bill and no diagnosis, only guesses. They also referred us to a specialist, where we spent another $1k on tests only to be told that our dog was fine. Fast forward to recently. My dog has colitis and occasionally has flare-ups. He developed diarrhea and, unlike previous episodes, stopped drinking water. Our regular vet got us in the next morning, but I was worried about dehydration overnight, so I called this clinic because it was late in the evening. I specifically asked whether they could evaluate him and give him fluids to help get him through the night until his appointment. I explained that he already has a known history of colitis and that we already had a plan with our regular vet. Women on the phone was very rude and basically told me that none of that mattered. I was told they require a standard list of diagnostic tests no matter what, and then the veterinarian could decide if even more tests were needed. When I asked if we could skip the full workup and just provide supportive treatment, I was told no, that's their policy. So instead I went to another emergency clinic in Buffalo Grove. They gave him fluids, got him hydrated, and sent us on our way to follow up with our regular vet the next day. No endless testing, no pressure, no trying to turn a straightforward situation into a several thousand dollar visit. Based on my experiences, this place seems far more interested in selling diagnostics than providing practical care. Stop giving your money to this clinic, they don't care about you or your pet, they only care about your money!

When I got there, I was met with the warmest, kind, helpful energy from every single person who worked there. From the person who did our intake, to the techs who did her initial vitals and administered her IV later on, (and cleaned up her mess on the way out - TY) to the Vet herself, I felt more than comfortable that they had my girls best interest in mind but were also realistic with what I could spend and how far we wanted to go with her care considering that she's 15.5 years old. After the vet examined her, I was sent a quote via email I could approve via my phone, and while I paid cash, they have an instant link you can pay for your services via credit card through email as well, which I found amazingly efficient and made what I was spending and what was included crystal clear so there was no anxiety about hidden costs. (I also found this place to be INCREDIBLY reasonable in their pricing compared to the other Vets I've gone to in the city). Special shoutout to the tech with the amazing mustache and the woman who administered her IV.... He was down on the floor, with my pup's head in his lap, petting her and saying the sweetest, most reassuring things while the other tech also just gave her such praise that we got some little exhausted tail wags out of her during what couldn't have been a comfortable process. It was just what we both needed in that moment, so thank you both so, so much. I was calm but pretty emotional, and I just felt safe coming here and would 100% come here again if needed, and recommend that anyone facing something like this with their fur baby come here too. The entire experience was quick, efficient, and again.... the kindness and genuine love they showed my baby was all I needed to know to feel comforted during a stressful moment. Happy to report the treatment she received has dramatically improved her condition in just a day, so overall it was a 10/10 experience.

Well unfortunately our dog needed emergency care, but fortunately we received excellent care again…read moreat VEG. Similar to our previous experience we were greeted the moment we walked in and the vet techs and nurse were so calm and empathetic. They not only treated our little cockapoo with compassion, but as too! They explained everything to us throughout the process. There are not words to describe the level of service they provide, it is amazing during difficult situatuons. Thank you VEG!

I had to bring in my Meowth, who was 12 years old with chronic kidney disease that was diagnosed a couple of years ago. He lost a bunch of weight and didn't really eat well for a few days. I naively thought that he didn't like the wet food I bought so I purchased another brand to see if he would eat. Little did I know that I was too late to save his life. He was admitted to the hospital at 10pm ish on a Monday evening and we were there until 3am the next day. We were assigned a room and the assistant performed the intake immediately. After that, the wait was long; hence, I had to deduct one star for this review. Nevertheless, once it was our turn, the vet on duty told us the blood work was necessary and then we were just patiently waiting for the results and were wondering how Meowth was doing. Everyone was compassionate and kind. The lobby had coffee, tea, and vending machines selling snacks and pops. It turned out that Meowth had to be on a watch for another day and would be receiving the rehydration treatment and ultrasound. I knew some bills definitely would need to be paid. The good thing was an itemized bill would always be provided for me to review, so I understood what each treatment or medicine cost. Doctor Pratt spoke to me on the phone in the afternoon and patiently explained the results from the ultrasound. As I guessed, they didn't look promising. Doctor Pratt answered all my questions and it helped make the decision for Meowth. We picked up Meowth after work. Medicine and discharge instructions were given. In addition, resources for euthanasia were handed to me. Unfortunately, I ended up choosing in-home euthanasia for Meowth the following day so that the entire family, including his feline bonding mate, Persian, could witness and perhaps have some closure. I didn't know Meowth developed an aggressive form of carcinoma in a such short amount of time. Doctor Pratt informed me the affected area and told me the life expectancy after chemotherapy if I were to elect that route. I really appreciated her honesty. At least I gained clarity on Meowth's conditions and I wanted to do what was best for him. I know this is an unusual review with lack of happiness. In the end, I am beyond grateful for the 24-hour service that "Premier Veterinary Group" offers. I still have the other cat with me and I do hope that things will be less tragic when it comes to health emergency on a pet. However, I will not hesitate to visit here again for any concern about my cat, especially when an appointment with my regular vet office is unavailable.

Premier had the best availability, was close to home, and came highly recommended by friends. I'm not going to lie, specialists and emergency vets aren't cheap. We first saw a specialist who said there was a 50/50 chance we could remove the carcinoma. If we good, Mel had years ahead of them. If they couldn't, it was more like months. When I dropped Mel off, the veterinary assistant collected my info and asked if he could have a photoshoot. As expected Mel charmed the pants off everyone and his photoshoot was more than I could've imagined. Unfortunately, the surgery revealed that his cancer was advanced and everywhere. When we took him home, they noted all of the ways he tried to con them into removing his cone and truly seemed enamored with him. Over the holidays, we knew the end was close and had scheduled an at home euthanasia for New Year's Day. Unfortunately Mel's little body had other plans. He started crashing NYE morning, so we called them to tell them we were coming. They started an IV and let me hold him in my arms while we said goodbye. They gave us options as to how present we wanted to be during the process and never once rushed us. They didn't bat an eye when I came in disheveled and crying. A few days later they called to check on us and sent a sympathy card. Losing a pet is like losing a family member. I'm grateful they did all they good to make it as stress free as possible.
