First let me start by talking about the decor before moving to the server and the food. The decor is beautiful, nice ambient lighting and really nice ambiance all round. We were greeted and seated quickly and our server arrived. I'm not sure if the wait staff are advised to push the specials or talk about items that are not on the menu but this was a very strange experience. We were literally overwhelmed by the server going into finite detail about every special, to the point that we just couldn't listen much longer. Then he went into endless detail about what wasn't on the menu and how his customers of the past 40 years ( he didn't look old enough to have been serving 40 years ! ) love the specials not on the menu, they were his best sellers. I actually asked if they are best sellers why they aren't on the menu, he looked as if I was joking, didn't answer the question and moved on with his boring diatribe about the menu. He then moved onto the drinks menu, and went on and on about the owners recipe margaritas, he said she's actually in the building tonight, we honestly all thought he was going to bring her to the table so she could give more details. When my coworker just asked for the house margarita the server asked him twice are you sure you don't want the owners recipe margarita, talk about making it awkward. When my coworker had finished his first drink, the server came back and actually asked are you ready to try the owners special margarita now....really , that's just beyond embarrassing, we felt like he was trying to make his point, that we should have ordered his recommendation, it made us feel very uncomfortable. We decided that we didn't want any of the $40+ specials, it was at that point his attitude sadly changed, it was almost like we weren't off any use to him. We ordered the fajitas, enchiladas and I had the salmon. The salmon was excellent, very tasty and I really enjoyed it, my coworkers really enjoyed their food too. But sadly the waiters change in attitude was just disappointing. We were all visiting from out of town, however we will be traveling to the area on a monthly basis. I can't believe how delicious the food was! The service was good too. I expected the salsa to be something special but found it a bit dull. Great color and texture but it lacked flavor and heat. This is a review for a group lunch event that recently happened at Via Real. My company has been a long standing customer of Via Real. We have booked many large & small events at the restaurant. Covid has effected lots of business and therefore you would have thought they would have appreciated the business. We reserved a private room and so there was a F/B min. However on the day of the event we had several folks not be able to attend. Those who attended were happy with the food quality but server was poor , slow , inexperienced. Lunch took over 2 hours. We did not met the food and beverage min ( short by like 100) and they were not flexible at all. Almost forced people to buy dessert and would not allow someone to buy a gift card to make up the difference. I feel there could have been allowances made. Word of mouth advertising can be devastating to a business .. its like getting bad food, they both leave a bad taste in your mouth and people will look elsewhere when they have group lunches & dinners. As far as I am concerned it will be a long time before anyone from my company goes there again. read more

Went there for the first time. My wife suggested it because she had her office Christmas party here. My first impression....I wish there were 6 starts to rate this place. The customer service left nothing more to be desired. The food was great. The wine was good. The waiters were excellent. I don't have enough words of praise to add. It is a little pricey though. The check came out to $70 for the two of us. But we have easily spent the same kind of money in places like On the Border where the service is nothing to boast about. I've only ever been to this restaurant for lunch, but it's been a great experience every time. We usually go with a large group and the service is always very good. I'm not very good at branching out, so once I discovered the greatness of the grilled vegetable salad I've had trouble ordering anything else, but the chips and salsa are also very good. Also, since it was a few people's birthday on the last time we went, they brought out a few slices of the chocolate raspberry cake and it was SO good. I definitely would recommend this place. I was on a business trip with two colleagues, staying in Irving and found Via Real on Yelp. It was a wonderful experience and everything was delicious. In addition, the service was outstanding. One of my companions knocked over her margarita before she even took a sip. The staff had it cleaned up and had a fresh drink on the the table in minutes. We met the owner, Fran, who was as nice and sweet as can be. She hung out with us for 10 minutes and because it was my birthday they took a photo of the group and gave it to me in a birthday card... a nice touch. The food was excellent. It is not your typical TexMex. Much more upscale. We started with an order of squash enchiladas to share as an appetizer. They were flavorful and delicate. We also shared a ceviche which was prepared with a tomato based sauce. It was very fresh and bright and wonderful with the margaritas. My entree was the signature Pistachio Crusted Sea Bass. It was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. My companions each had fish and enjoyed their dishes. We shared the flan for dessert, which had a wonderful eggy flavor, just the way I like it. Found this restaurant from Yelp and boy am I thankful! My husband and I LOVE mexican food but seem to have a difficult time finding restaurants that suit our tastebuds. We chose Via Real because of the great reviews and started our dinner with guacamole and chips. Asked our waiter for a way to spice up our guacamole so he quickly brought us some habanero sauce to drizzle of top! Wow, this hit the spot! We then ordered a filet cooked on oak plank with a red chili sauce and an enchilada and taco . Delicious!!! We ended our fabulous dinner with a white chocolate creme brûlée which was dreamy! Please try this restaurant but make reservations in advance because they are always booked! Probably some of the best tex mex in The Dallas area. I was in town for work and ate here three nights in a row. The owner was there the last night and is very delightful to talk to. She obviously puts some work into her business. The daily specials were all excellent. The margaritas are some of the best we had ever had. Easy to get to with valet parking as an option. Plenty of parking nearby. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Upscale but not stuffy. We ate at the bar one night and the food and service was just as excellent there as it was at a table. read more

I had looked at some of the reviews and figured they do something special for the anniversaries. When I reserved the table I mentioned the occasion as anniversary. I wanted it to be a surprise for my husband, so I didn't mention it to him. I got call from the restaurant to confirm my reservation and the lady on phone said they would do something special for us. When we reached at the reception they did wish us but I think they forgot to mention the occasion to our server. My husband and I were in town enjoying my birthday weekend and wanted a nice dinner out. Based on the location and several Yelp recommendations we tried Via Real. We were not disappointed! Our waiter, Ian, was very knowledgable and seemed to enjoy giving us thorough descriptions of the menu items. (I think he could tell we were truly interested in these descriptions, he wasn't as detailed with the table next to us. I didn't want that comment to be interpreted as a negative, it was not!) His descriptions were spot on. He was just the right amount of attentive as well- not overbearing, but there when we needed something. My husband and I both ordered from the daily specials. His filet was cooked exactly as he wanted. I had pecan crusted Chilean Sea Bass, which was tasty, and was accompanied by unusual and tasty sides. We both enjoyed our entrées and did a good job cleaning out plates! We ended the meal with dessert- my choice since it was my birthday! It was a difficult decision, and I'm pretty sure we would have been happy with any of them. When Ian brought out the dessert, it included a candle and "Happy Birthday" written on the plate in chocolate sauce. He took our picture with the dessert and gave it to us in a card- what a special touch! To complete the enjoyable evening, as we were leaving another member of the staff, with whom we really hadn't had any interaction, wished me a happy birthday as well.
