I would rather eat out for breakfast than any other meal. My hubby and I look for the places where locals eat. Vickery's was our choice this weekend when I was visiting DFW. I was so pleased! I am an eggs and bacon girl. I appreciate that some folks want a fancy Benedict but that just isn't me. What is my weakness is pie! I shared, reluctantly, a piece of coconut cream pie with hubby. It could have been made from a recipe my mom would have used. Pie crust made and touched by human hands, the richest coconut cream filling I have had in a long time, and whipped cream that was steps above any whipped cream I have had in recent memory. Sunday 10/23/16 Brunch with a friend today. Only open for breakfast & lunch. Arrived around 11:45 to a full dining room so rather than wait we sat at the bar right in front of the window to the kitchen. It was fun to watch the hustle and all the plates coming out. The place was packed but the staff, including the chef, were really on top of it. I ordered breakfast, eggs over easy, bacon wheat toast & coffee. My friend ordered a BLT, & chips. When our food came out, my eggs were hard cooked. My friend said to send them back but I told him it was ok because I like eggs cooked in any manner. It wasn't 30 seconds later that the chef walked by, stopped in front of me, looked at my plate and asked "how did you order your eggs?" I told him & told him it was ok and he said "that's not what you ordered". He turned heel, walked to the window and told the cook he needed over easy eggs. In no time they were sitting in front of me. Petty amazing experience. Eggs were perfect, bacon was very tasty & coffee cup was never more than half full. A guy sitting next to my friend ordered eggs with pork chops and hash browns that were "smothered & covered". Apparently that means the potatoes are covered with cheese & smothered in chopped grilled onions. Whatever it was, the aroma coming off that plate was amazing. Can't wait to go back & try those potatoes. Also saw the Monte Cristo sandwich come out and it looked great, too. Actually I didn't see anything that came out of the kitchen that I wouldn't love to try. Oh, and the OJ is fresh squeezed as needed right at the counter. My family has been searching for a good breakfast cafe. We went to west side cafe and we were not impressed. Vickery blvd however is delish!! I got the eggs n country steak. The home fries are very good and I put the sauce from the ham steak on it and om om om!!! My husband got the creole scrambled special with hollandaise sauce and boy it was flavorful!!! Awesome spot for your home style brunching needs! We came here on an early Saturday afternoon to get our breakfast fix and this place did not disappoint. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with a side of their home fries and Mike ordered their Stockyards Omelet with a side of hash browns. I'm a big fan of their home fries -- nothing better than potatoes fried with onions and bell peppers! Yum! Mike's omelet was extra meaty and delicious! I love having breakfast here staff is very friendly and food is tasty. But beware because everyone else loves this place too so there's always a wait on weekend mornings. Look! This is hands down the BEST breakfast I've had so far in the Fort Worth area! I'm still searching but this place has trumped, no pun intended, most of the other great spots I've found. The retro feel of the place adds to the homegrown flavor flowing in this little establishment. My breakfast companion said she would be recommending this place to other folks as well and we've dined at many breakfast spots together. Ok so you came here for the food right?! Hecks yeah! Listen, the food is AHmazing! I opted for the eggs with chops and it's the best life decision I've made in awhile! The buttermilk breaded and fried chops were seasoned perfectly and fried to perfection. They were moist and tender enough to cut with a butter knife. The chops were accompanied by eggs scrambled with cheese and I opted for a buttermilk biscuit and home fries, JESUS! My friend found herself lost in the breakfast quesadilla. I tried it as well and it was hands down the best combination of breakfast items possible! The trip was made even more special by the chef coming around checking on the guests, this is how you keep a business going! Let me start by saying that a) I went on a very busy TCU game-day and b) I was accompanied by a woman that doesn't always realize she's using a tone, along with her impatient friend that exploits her sassiness to get what she wants--and it doesn't come off as charming. I'm more of the "you catch more flies with honey" type of southerner; I won't go into details, but the red booth we were finally seated in had nothing on my 200 shades of red after our little brush with the hostess. Of course, my companion's coolness didn't thaw and she made sure to extend her gaudy impatience to the server, who picked-up on it immediately. What could have been a fabulous experience at a meek little diner turned into a brunch of shame. Naturally, the poor server who was destined to wait our table felt assured her tip was already quashed (by no doing of her own), so why bother? And by that rule she served us; put this woman in Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, her quarantine skills could save us all of from Ebola! On a good note, the food came out quickly and it was delicious and filling. Even more delicious was the coconut cream pie I got to-go... so amazing. However, the coffee in our cups was definitely from the "reserved for assholes" pot (which I presume is filled with the bottom of every other coffee pot and left on a hot plate overnight), it tasted burnt and groundsy. One of my favorite parts was when our waitress split the check and walked off without saying anything. Clueless, we stayed seated until we figured we were supposed to pay at the front. The sweaty gentleman at the front said "you were supposed to pay at your table" and turned his back to us, he then reluctantly helped us when he realized sassy-pants was going anywhere, adding, "I can go ahead and help you". This really excited me because I love to stand awkwardly in the middle of a sea of people eating, especially when I'm with two other people and we're all paying separately. Despite everything, I would absolutely give this place another chance; it's cozy, affordable and the food was exactly what you expect when you're craving diner food. While I can understand the frustrations of the staff when it comes to unpleasant guests, it's also no excuse to ignore your table, no matter how obnoxious they are, therefore, until I have a better experience (alone hopefully), this place is a solid three-star establishment. read more

Went for Sunday Brunch and what a great choice this restaurant was. It was crowded with TCU students, and town people, all enjoying themselves. The place was packed, but the service was good. I had the corned beef hash and it was excellent. All fresh ingredients. They brine the corned beef in house. Wonderful redskin potatoes and lots of red and green peppers. Hubby had the quesadiella and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing is greasy, and the restaurant is neat and clean. read more

First visit to this establishment; arrived on Sunday around 11:15 for breakfast, had about a 15 minutes wait to be seated, worth the wait. We both ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict, with home fries. The only place I can remember that had such an outstanding dish of E.B, is in San Francisco, the fries were well cooked and seasoned. The one low point was out server, Vikki, once she took our order, the next time we saw her was with the check, not once did she check to see if we needed anything. read more

The Vickery Boulevard Cafe was the highlight of my recent trip to Texas. Being from California, one of my primary missions upon arriving in Fort Worth was to have a "genuine" Southern breakfast, namely chicken fried steak and eggs. The Vickery Boulevard Cafe has THE BEST CHICKEN FRIED STEAK I've ever had. Period. I literally ate breakfast at the Vickery Boulevard Cafe EVERY DAY while in Texas. Furthermore, I had the chicken fried steak and eggs EVERY TIME I ate there. It's just that good. The chicken fried steak is cooked to order, breaded perfectly, and topped with homemade gravy that tastes like FREEDOM. The accompanying eggs and hash browns were also cooked to perfection. Oh, and don't forget the homemade biscuits and gravy. Truly one of the greatest meals I've ever had (every time, mind you), which is saying something because I come from the land of food snobbery. The fresh-squeezed orange juice is epic as well. More than anything else, the staff at the Vickery Boulevard Cafe are exceptional people. Genuinely welcoming, courteous, and kind. Carol and Vikki, if you're reading this, we miss you already and cannot wait to come back to Texas so we can enjoy (every) breakfast with you fine ladies again! Local, non-chain diner/cafe style place. The food was good, but nothing really wowed me. Was anything "bad?" No, not at all. But, my dad and I agreed that Vickery Cafe is kind of middle of the road vs. other places we've tried for breakfast in the past couple of months. Would I go back? Yeah, if someone else wanted to eat there. I doubt I'd go back on my own, though. OH YEAH! I read raves about the OJ. My dad had some. It looked very weak and he said it tasted very weak, too.. This is probably my favorite greasy spoon breakfast spot in. Fort Worth. First the staff is great, they keep that place in line and do a great job taking care of you. The regulars in the place are kind and helpful in showing you what to try. The owner is a nice guy too. They have fresh squeezed orange juice, and they have pretty much any traditional American breakfast concoction you could want. Ingredients are quality as well. I ordered takeout from here this morning. We got the migas, waffle, hash browns and orange juice. This place only has 3 stars because of the OJ and fun decor. The brisket in the migas was dry and stringy and pretty much ruined the dish. The beans on the side were cold, I could say it was because of takeout order but the cheese on top the beans wasn't melted at all... So when were the beans hot? The wait was 10 minutes longer than I was told and I was never offered a water or the OJ I ordered while I waited. The waffle was done when I got there, the migas 10 min later, then the waitress found the order of hash browns she had been telling the kitchen to make a few minutes after that. Also a man came in and started insulting one of the waitresses, seemed like a personal conversation with a regular but was super awkward. I asked my friends where their favorite diners were in Fort Worth, and they suggested Paris Coffee Shop, Brewed, and here... I haven't tried Paris, but Brewed is definitely better than Vickery. First of all, our coffee tasted like it had been burned, so it must've been atop the burner too long. Second, my eggs Benedict was bathing in a hollandaise sauce that looked and tasted more like cheese sauce. I couldn't see the poached eggs, nor could I taste the texture of the English muffin because it was so saturated. The diced potatoes and the freshly squeezed orange juice were good, though. Mother's Day to the max! This is a great diner atmosphere that serves an awesome, traditional, no frill breakfast. We met our adult children for brunch and couldn't have chosen a better place. Everything was delicious. We enjoyed the Migas with brisket, Reuben omelet with rye toast, the Monte cristo and a traditional breakfast of Eggs, bacon and a pancake. A real Texas Treat with a Cajun flair. I had the Cajun breakfast with Andouille sausage and corn cakes. It was terrific and a Great change of pace from the standard Denny's fare, but you can get that too. No need to bring an attitude, The waitresses will treat you like they've known you your whole life. I'll have to check the place out for Dinner or Supper as the pies look great in the refrigerated case. I always save the last bite for the best thing on the plate.
