Another great experience at Vida! The waiter did a great job of making solid recommendations based on our dietary constraints. We started with the Scallop which was fantastic and perfectly cooked. Then we both had the fried chicken which was also excellent and very flavorful. For the entree I had the purple sweet potato tortelloni and my husband had the pork chop. The tortelloni was very pretty and reminiscent of spring lilies, an excellent dish for this season. The pork chop was excellent as well. Perfectly cooked and huge! My husband couldn't eat all of it. Then we wrapped up with the donuts. I highly highly highly recommend you get these if you come in. They are so good. Great experience again and definitely will be back!

I still cannot get over how good this dining experience was. We only had one night available for dinner during our quick trip to Indy so there was a lot of pressure to not fuck this up. We are basic dining bitches so popularity and hype is like half the battle. There was another well known place around here that I highly considered. I was sold on Vida the minute I saw that they have a vegetarian version of their menu. My the time I made a reservation there was only 5 and 8pm and while 8 would have been the obvious choice years ago, we are old now so 5 it is. We walked over there from near gainbridge fieldhouse which wasn't too bad. Every single detail of our experience at Vida was impeccable. Everyone was friendly and the service was absolutely exceptional. Not to brag but we have been to Michelin starred restaurants around the world and I have never felt like how I felt at Vida, like it was an experience they wanted to create FOR ME. I also overheard a similar sentiment from the servers at other tables for those patrons. We both went with the tasting menu. I am vegetarian which I did indicate in correspondence with them prior to the reservation but they somehow knew who I was vs GF. Like they have some mind reading shit going on. Every single course was a symphony of flavors, textures, and visuals. Plate after plate. Nothing short of exceptional. The cocktail menu is also along those same lines. Very creative and innovative concoctions.

Indy's best quality restaurant by far - everything from the food to the atmosphere and experience is so detail oriented. Parking isn't amazing. We ended up valeting for $15. If you do a lap and don't find any open spots in the back, it's worth the money vs roaming up and down side streets for parking. We were seated immediately. Our waiter was super knowledgeable and professional. He explained the dishes and taste profiles for everything - food and drinks. Our menus even said Happy Birthday and my name, which was a nice personal touch. The ambience inside was super warm and cozy, but sophisticated at the same time. I had the scallops, greens salad, Ballotine chicken, and ricotta donuts. Scallops were great. They tasted fresh and came with pork belly too. The salad was the only thing of the night I didn't think was anything spectacular. It was good - just missing a wow element. The chicken Ballotine was the best chicken dish I've ever had. The chicken is cooked so perfectly, anytime I have it now I'll always consider it dry. I can't even figure out they prepared it so it came out like that. Absolutely perfect! I had seen the ricotta donuts were mentioned in almost every review and for good reason - they were soooooo good and the perfect sweet to end the meal. They also brought out a complimentary appetizer and we have no clue what it was but loved it. Everything on the menu will be good, even if you've never heard of an ingredient, just trust it. 10/10 experience and food

Unquestionably a Michelin Star is incoming for Vida. Holy smokes easily the best restaurant I've ever been to in Indianapolis after growing up here for 22 years and then coming home for the holidays to see my parents. ORDER THE DOUGHNUTS! Thank me later! I had no idea this place even existed until Yelp sent out some best 100 restaurants in America list and Vida was on it. Yet, I grew up in Indianapolis and had never heard of it. Made a reservation online. The menu is a $95 price fix of 4 courses. I was the only person here not in a suit and tie. And all of the women were in cocktail dresses and super dressed up. I'm not one to usually underdress, but we were going to the Pacers game immediately after. Our server, Joshua K was awesome. Explained everything, and brought the food much faster like we requested as we had a game to get to. The atmosphere is so cozy with the fireplace. Up first was compliments of the chef. Some kind of potato ball. It was delicious. I had a $17 Espresso Martini and it was exactly as it should be. I like it when it comes out dark as well. The free bread here is crazy good. Definitely don't skip it. For my first course, I had beef tartare. Phenomenal. Up second, I had the buttermilk fried chicken. This is exactly how it should taste. No grease, just the great buttermilk. It seems only Midwest places get this right. Main entre I had the Black Angus Ribeye. Absolutely perfect, better than St. Elmo's, Sullivan's, Ruth's Chris or any other steakhouse around Indy. And to top it all off they have ricotta doughnuts here. OMG, I love warm melt in your mouth doughnuts. I would seriously come here just for the doughnuts. Will absolutely come back. This is the new best restaurant in Indy.

I just had the best meal of my life, and I am shocked to tell you that it was in Indianapolis...at Vida! We had reservations and were seated immediately. The service was impeccable. I've never felt so cared for in a restaurant! I got up to use the restroom in between courses and I came back to a new napkin. I mean, who does that?! Apparently, Vida does! The lighting was perfect. The decor was modern and chic. I hate Edison bulbs, but they somehow made theirs bearable. My partner and I ordered from the four course menu and sparkling water (we are fancy, after all). The vegetables are locally sourced from their own greenhouse as often as possible, and their menu changes regularly. That means I'll never get to have this meal again, and we all need to have a moment silence for that.

I first went to Vida in 2017 after hearing about their AAA Four Diamond Award. I honestly went in a little skeptical, ready to joke about the plating sizes and be a contrarian about the whole experience. That ended pretty quickly once I experienced the level of service, the ambiance, the hydroponic wall they pulled greens from to dress the plates, the cocktails, and the attention to detail throughout the restaurant. At the time, they also had an incredible in-house smoked and dried meat program for their charcuterie boards that I still think about. While the charcuterie program has changed over the years, the quality of the food, cocktails, and service has remained excellent. I'm kind of a regular now. I usually show up with a book, an empty stomach, and an open mind ready to try whatever seasonal menu they're offering. Also shoutout to the James Beard nominated sommelier Jared May and my favorite bartender, Logan.

I've been wanting to visit Vida for a while now and finally got the chance during Devour! It was a true 5-star experience. The service, food, and ambiance exceeded my expectations. I went with the four-course option and was amazed by every dish. The servings are small, but I surprisingly got full. Everything was cooked perfectly. My favorites were the ribeye, which was cooked perfectly medium, as requested, and had a nice seasoned crust on the outside, and the ricotta donuts. If you like to try new things, this restaurant is a must!

Wow! One of the most incredible dining experiences I have ever had! From the personalized menu for my friend's birthday to the truly amazing ambience, everything about Vida feels intentional. The timing of the dishes was perfect (a lot of places don't consider that), the drink pairings were next level, the food will make you question every other experience you've had, and the staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. I've never heard anything negative about this place and there's a reason for that. The tasting menu was perfectly curated. Even food I don't normally eat, I found myself devouring here. While the price may give some of you pause, I can assure you there wasn't a single moment I felt the experience wasn't worth it. You'll find yourself talking about your Vida experience time and time again. I'm already dying to go back!

We spent the night in the city driving through and this was our only dinner, which looking back I cannot imagine not having had dinner here as it really took us by surprise. It was start to finish such an incredibly delightful experience. The true highlight was the service. Everyone was so personable and friendly. Our waiter told us a personalized story each time he visited our table in a way that really seemed to be an effort to connect with us. The food itself was astounding. We opted for the 4 course menu and they split everything for us so that we could essentially order two of everything and eat it on our own plates. Despite this, the plating was phenomenal. It was all great. Started with the amuse bouche of chicken croquette which was one of the better versions of this I've had. Beef tartare was perfectly seasoned and the crispiness of the toast complemented it well. The grilled octopus truly made me wonder why no one else is using romesco sauce-this was one of the best sauces I've ever had. We were so full by the time the ricotta doughnuts came around but this is such an inspired and unique dish that I know would have been great by itself. Do not skip this place if you're in the area.

Vida is a Michelin restaurant that does not actually have any Michelin stars.... yet. But as other reviewers have written, it deserves at least one. The snobs at Michelin must not have made their way over to Indiana yet, otherwise, Vida would have gotten one by now! Nonetheless, Vida is the nicest restaurant in Indianapolis and is more than worthy of its many awards over the last decade in business. Here's my thoughts on the greatest restaurant I've been to in recent memory. My party of 6 were seated in a semi-private room for an incredible dinner planned by my future brother-in-law, who is local to Indy. Our main servers were Olivia and Isaiah. A few more would come by to assist over the 3 hour dinner. We were offered still or sparkling water (I chose sparkling) and then the six of us chose to order from the 4 course menu versus the tasting menu. The four course meal costs $95 a person (more if you want wine pairings). About 10 minutes later, a non-course amuse bouche of a zucchini fritter was delivered and we were told to eat it with our hands. It was an amazing first bite and great preview into what was to come. The actual first course and drinks took another 10 minutes to arrive, during which I checked out the restaurant itself. First of all, the bathroom looks and smells amazing. 10/10 for cleanliness! The interior is classy and expensive and I could watch the chefs work for hours. I think I grabbed a photo of the head chef of Vida... nice! Our private room was next to the red wine cellar - it was fascinating watching staff come in and out to grab a bottle of wine for another table. My drink was a seasonal cocktail with two types of gin and browned butter. The initial smell of my drink gave off whiskey vibes. I did not end up finishing my drink. I hated my boyfriends cocktail, which was incredibly smokey, but he liked it. At this time, we ordered a bottle of red wine for the table from a woman owned winery. It was very dry. VERY dry! Then the first course arrived. I chose the octopus. Very lemony. My favorite dish of the night and a top 10 first bite of all time experience. If you're curious (as all 6 people at my table were), the plates came from Robert Gordon pottery and the silverware was from Varick Moon. Classy! I went down a rabbit hole checking out their websites of products online. Unbelievably expensive! Imho, the time between courses was too long. I'm sure this is normal at fancy places but it could have just been a smidge quicker overall. Next, the bread came out at the same time as the 2nd course. The bread today was garlic foccacia and a peach apple bread with whipped butter. Both were unbelievably delicious and well baked and moist and buttery and omg, I wanna buy a dozen loaves! The peach apple bread reminded me to the fruit breads my grandma used to make. I took my sweet time eating these little carb-y delights. My second course was foie gras. I got a stinky shoe taste and smell but others said they got a mushroom umami taste. I only just liked it. It was my least favorite of the night. The brioche underneath it was salty but still yummy and fluffy and oh so buttery! The third course was a ribeye with turnip and mushrooms and mashed potato with leek. This was a good choice but I also enjoyed trying my boyfriend's lamb shanks. They were very fatty and buttery, in a good way! He said the lamb was his favorite dish of the night. We were full at that point but around the 2 and a half hour mark, the fourth and final course, the dessert, arrived. I chose the lemon cake and my boyfriends got the iconic ricotta donuts. His donuts were outstanding! My lemom cake reminded me of the sliced loaves you get at Starbucks. I should have ignored my plan to get completely different course choices than my boyfriend and gotten those amazing, life-changing donuts! So buttery and crisp but also pillow-y with maple syrup sugariness drenched throughout! I wish I could have ordered a dozen to go. My boyfriend and I will never forget our divine dinner at Vida last night and dream of coming back again soon. 9.5/10 experience!

I am familiar with many of the Cunningham restaurants but had not been to this one yet, however we were celebrating a graduation and this was the place that was picked and visited. They treated us so well! With personalized menus and well tailored small talk, hats off to them. I had a delicious tzatziki martini, that was surprisingly savory and drinkable! I had the maple duck for my main course that was Melt in your mouth savory and so so delicious! We had a great amuse booche, and great Bread that was both sweet and then savory, I loved having that choice, all around great time, and I would go back to try more awesome food!

This was nothing particular just a January date night to start the year off right with a new place. What a great choice!!!! Rainy spring night but it's January and we arrived a little early because we weren't sure about the parking situation but luckily we found one just up the street not too bad. I imagine on a much busier time it's definitely a little more difficult. We don't like to be late. The moment we walked in we were greeted by staff and the ambiance of even just walking in we just knew this would be an amazing experience and we were very excited to get our date night started. We were sat down by Jillian (I hope I remembered her name) and she was very nice and even took my jacket to hang. We started off with whiskey on the rocks and an espresso martini but winter edition. Such beautiful presentation. Whiskey is whiskey to me and my bf enjoyed the cube and it had an etched V on it, very beautifully done. My martini was delicious and the secret ingredient gave it a little extra depth. I definitely am glad i chose that. Tim was our waiter. Such a lovely very polite human. I absolutely enjoyed that if we had a question or even a quick comment about how spectacular things were he was very pleasant to converse with. We decided on the tasting menu. We would have done the wine pairing but my love has to be at work at 4am so we will save it for our anniversary in October...we had already decided we were coming back even before our 7 course meal. I don't even know where to begin when it comes to the tasting but from beginning to end it was such a delicious delight. I love the presentation of everything. The sauces, the au jus, the purées, the garnishes, the variety of flavors and textures. I can't even begin to describe it all because we both just enjoyed each one in its own unique and beautiful way. (That's why I had to take pictures of it all) Last but not least, the dessert was such an array of sweet savory candy tasting donuts (slightly warm) just placed ever so lightly upon this delicious caramel ice cream, bacon bits, and crunchy candy like bits...I don't even know exactly but the flavors were very surprising and quite tasty. We definitely had a wonderful evening. This truly was a great kick off to our monthly date nights. I want to add that the entire staff was ever so genuinely kind, and very attentive. I wish I could have gotten their names everyone we talked to in between our tastings were so kind. Louis was the only name I got because we both spoke Spanish. As we left, the staff in the kitchen did thank us for coming in and I'm so glad it's so open because we were able to make sure they knew how much we really enjoyed our dining experience and I must say that kitchen is absolutely beautiful! The friendliness and beautiful smiling faces just added that extra warmth and touch to our already wonderful experience. Thank you again! I think everyone should take a look into dining at Vida. It's definitely spectacular. Cannot wait to celebrate our anniversary here later this year.

A one of a kind experience. I always wanted to do a tasting menu and this was everything I dreamed of. This restaurant is one of a kind, open kitchen, beautiful warm ambiance, a herb wall in the kitchen, everything was so awe inspiring. We did the chefs tasting menu for our anniversary dinner, and our server recommended doing the regular wine pairing and the reserve to get more wines to taste. Everything was explained in extreme detail from the wine, its history, why it was paired with the dish, and even the company's history. The service was top tier. The food was phenomenal. Honestly, no notes. This place was amazing.

Vida is absolutely amazing! The only reason I am giving a 4 star though rather than 5 is the price. This place is great for a special occasion though. The food reminded me of my vacation in Paris. They have fois gras, tar tar, a 6 course meal, and table service that it unlike anything else. We enjoyed all of the food and I especially liked the herb garden growing on the wall. We made a reservation because we knew the city would be packed for race weekend. We were able to find free street parking about a minute away, although they do have valet parking as well. As soon as we walked in the door, I immediately loved the atmosphere. My favorite part is a massive herb wall in the entrance so you know that all their greens are super fresh. We were seated immediately in the "bar" room (the main room was already completely booked by the time we called to make the reservation), which has a great ambience and wasn't too loud. They have an à la carte menu as well as a 6 course tasting menu ($85/person) with the option to pair each dish with a wine selected by their in-house sommelier. We were intrigued by the tasting menu, which featured dishes that were not listed on the normal menu, so we decided to try it out. I should mention that they require the entire table to participate in the tasting menu so that all the plates come out at the same time. The food was amazing... probably one of the best meal I have had my entire life. We enjoyed some 1. prawns with salsa verde, 2. salmon, 3. duck, 4. lamb, 5. blue cheese, and 6. a lemon desert; everything was delicious! My favorite dish was the duck, which had an amazing sauce on top that I can't even describe with words. We also ordered a bottle of wine for the table (since the wine pairing was quite pricey). ` Overall, Vida is an incredible place to eat, with delicious food and very friendly and helpful staff. We loved it! My husband and I tried Vida because we had seen it was part of the Devour Downtown. I had worked up some pretty high expectations after reading the menu and a couple of reviews, and it more than lived up to them. As soon as you walk in you see their beautiful wall of greens - such a great idea and it takes the whole 'knowing where your food comes from' to the next level. While I was staring at the wall in wonder, a member of the kitchen staff motioned me over to come try some of the fresh herbs growing on it. Such fun! It made the aptly named 'Wall Greens Salad' we had for our starter seem so much more special. The bread basket was really different to the usual bread rolls - there was sweet and fluffy brioche, buttery rosemary biscuits and my all-time favorite - friendship bread. No clue what friendship bread is but it tasted like a less sweet ginger cake. So fabulous. We ordered cocktails to get started on before our food arrived. This plan didn't work out - they arrived after we had finished our starter. I don't know if its because I'm European, but I am not a fan of rushing through the courses like that - a chance to drink and chat before food is all part of the experience to me. Anyway, cocktails were good, more sippers than drinkers. The mains were incredible. Frustratingly, my husband ordered better with the short rib - perfectly cooked and complimented by sides rich in flavor. The salmon I ordered really was great, just slightly overshadowed by his. We were too full for dessert so took the doughnuts to go. We just shared them now and I can see why Vida are famous for them! read more

Vida is definitely another delicious addition to Indianapolis from the Cunningham group. You're immediately welcomed into the space by their wall of herbs and veggies, giving an immediate impression of fresh, seasonal food. The menu has something for everyone. I was with a vegetarian who usually has issues with smaller menus. She had options and loved what she got. I started with the tartare and then had the salmon. Both were seasoned perfectly and the salmon was cooked beautifully. Service was great and the drinks were delicious. Overall, I have zero complaints and will definitely be back to visit this addition to Indy! Tip: Make sure you make reservations in advance. If you don't make them you can still get full dinner service at the bar, which is first come, first serve. read more

This place is UHmazing! Great bar and cocktails. They're curated and wonderful. The meal itself was delicious as well as the service. Ethan and Austen's service was top notch. Kudos to Whitney, the manager who came to say hello and check on us. Fennel Soup and the donuts are a MUST. Great design of the restaurant and the ambiance is wonderful! A must stop when in Indy. Wow, what a great dinner we had here. This place is definitely a "special occasion" type of vibe -- but expect to spend $$$ (especially if you want drinks with your meal). A few comments: -Some of the best service I've had - fantastic wait staff, very discreet and efficient but friendly and helpful. -Very nice vibe and decor - fireplace, high ceilings, dimmer lighting than I'm used to at other restaurants here (personally, I love a tiny intimate space and lots of low lighting but that's hard to find in Indy -- Vida is large and inviting, but feels warm and cozier than most). -Simply delicious and interesting food. We did the 4 course tasting option (there are veggie options for non-carnivores and seafood for pescetarians). Fresh salads and excellent seafood options -- we tried scallops, sea bass and salmon dishes, all cooked perfectly. -Great wine selection! read more

This may be my new favorite restaurant. The food was amazing and I would have posted pictures of the beautiful way it was served, however it looked so amazing I couldn't hold myself back. Our waitress Etta was amazing and provided excellent customer service with great recommendations. The short rib was so tender it melted in my mouth and the doughnuts were delightful with a sweet taste and a small strip of Bacon. While the price may scare some away it is worth every penny with a 4 course meal at $65 a person. This price was an excellent price point for the food and service. read more

In Spanish, Vida means life. And this place will give you life. I had been putting off visiting Vida for far too long, so my husband made us reservations for my birthday. I had set my bar a little lower, only because the only Cunningham restaurant I really Love is Bru Burger. I was proved wrong. We did the four course menu. I had the shrimp to begin and it was so juicy and satisfying. Next, I had the pear salad which included this little baklava nugget of perfection mixed with arugula and perfect bites of honey. For the main course I had the halibut, which was encrusted and crusty deliciousness. It was paired with a great spring vegetable arrangement including my favorite--peas. We finished the meal with dessert. I had the lemon pudding cake with rhubarb and was surprised by how well the mint ice cream paired. We were surprised with an additional dessert--the bourbon ricotta donuts! I mean, I would eat browned butter off of a shoe, so those donuts were fire. I also imbibed in the velvet rose cocktail (delicious and not sweet). Please don't wait as long as I did to indulge in the Vida of Indianapolis! read more

Vida The good, the bad and the ugly... Preview This is a hard review with such very different vibes at all ends of the spectrum. One thing would be unbelievable while it was paired with beyond average service. I want to be fair but I'm finding the duality difficult to address. How do you say the information provided by the wait staff was detailed and informative but the inattentiveness between courses was dreadful. (Full review of a wine while waiting 30 minutes for water glasses to be filled). I'll do my best... The Good Outstanding food and flavor. Period. By far the best in Indianapolis. Which makes all the rest of the review that much more difficult. The atmosphere was very 1960's diner. Orange and dark wood. However. A painting by Koby Feldmos was so beautiful I ordered two originals while waiting between courses. The price of $85 for the tasting and $155 with wine is beyond fair. And let me reiterate, the food was SPECTACULAR!! Such mixed feelings... The Bad For those stuck within the Midwest, the initial take may seem extraordinary. But in comparison with high end restaurants elsewhere, it pales in service and attentiveness. We literally planned an African vacation between courses. The waiter was excellent when introducing wine pairings but was never around when food courses appeared. Our first course appeared prematurely despite being 30 minutes after we ordered. The amuse bouche was brought after our first course and the wait staff tried to convince us that was the way Vida does it. Every table around us was provided theirs pre-tasting menu. While the wines were excellently paired, the pours were extremely limited. 2 oz. pours may be a generous estimation. We would be served lamb and have to wait for steak knives to come. They knew what the next course was, why not lay the Silverwear in advance? The Ugly I hate to write a so-so review. I hate that I loved the food and hated that it took 3.5 hours to be served it. I wanted wine that gave me a taste and then could pair equally with the food it was meant to go with. So much of this is fantastic and with a little direction with the bus Staff and some timeliness of service coinciding with attention to detail, this could be SPECTACULAR. As it stands, it's a solid 3.5. Go! The food is worth it. The price point is amazing. The problems can be overlooked. read more

This is by far my fav restaurant in Indy. My husbands too. This review is post NYE dinner we had there last night. We were just discussing how much we love Vida and I thought to share here with you. They had a 4 course menu option for dinner last night. Each option has 4 to choose from. Choose your own adventure as the waiter described it. It was spectacular. Every detail. It's upscale but not pretentious. The atmosphere is gorgeous, the service spot on, the food impeccable. Always. This is our 4th time to Vida and it never disappoints. We always leave feeling as if we have had an experience. Try the dinner with wine pairing. You won't regret it. read more

So delicious!!! Great environment! Friendly staff! Yummy food! Great for a date night, which is exactly why we went. We had been saving this place for a quiet date night an it did not disappoint. On the pricey side, but it is a fine dining experience. We had the tuna appetizer and split the field greens salad. For the main course we had the steak and I ordered the scallops as a meal (pictured). We polished it off with the peppermint chocolate "bomb." Everything was delicious! Vida is such a beautiful restaurant. Their hydroponic herb/greens wall is such an great touch. They will let you sample the herbs from the wall! Cocktails were light and fresh. For an app we started out with the peaches served with cottage cheese mousse and topped with nuts for a crunch. This dish was incredible! So light, tart and satisfying. For our entrees we order the duck tart and loco moco pork. The duck meat was tender with a perfectly crisp skin. Served on a bed of creamy potatoes and cheese with dollops of some sort of tangy mustard sauce. I wasn't as over the moon about the pork dish. It was a little on the sweet side but lacked that "something special." Vida stands out as a restaurant that does things different. Such a great addition to Indy's restaurant scene. read more

Had the most incredible dinner. I was alone on business in Indy and found this Gem! Started with the Hamachi, to the steak tartare, went to the grilled octopus, onto the Foie Gras and finished with the scallops! When they asked any dietary restrictions I told the waiter I was doing strict keto that to please just leave off any potatoes or rice. The executive chef took it to the nth degree and made every dish strict keto friendly! Amazing experience and Etta makes a hell of a Tito's slightly dirty Martini. Well done! Highly recommended! A couple weeks ago was my first visit to Vida for a full dinner and it couldn't have been better! The 4-course menu has plenty of choices for every type of palette. I started with the Fjord Trout. The server compared it to smoked salmon, which I know is similar, but the way it was prepared was exceptional. My 2nd course was good, but it was the 3rd course that really stood out. The lamb was so tender and accompaniments were all cooked to perfection. Being lactose intolerant, and a lover of goat cheese (which some lactose-intolerant people can eat, read about it), I had to get the goat cheese cheesecake. It was small, but it was amazing and I was full after those delectable 4 courses. I will return for our next celebratory dinner. read more

This is a very nice place with an interesting menu, creative dishes, good presentation, attentive service and a real nice look. They do a pre-fixe menu primarily. The Yelp and OpenTable description is misleading however. They describe it as American, steaks , etc. They literally didn't have a steak on the entire menu. Our guest, who we suggested the restaurant to I think was disappointed. He left his entree untouched. Further, the entrees are skimpy. It's a good place but not a meat and potatoes place at all. Overall, I would recommend but you should really know what type of restaurant this is before deciding on it. read more

The potions aren't too large so you won't find your self over eating. Our service was great as well. They are part of the Cunningham family. I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and I think I made the best decision. My boyfriend loves foie gras, so I was trying to find a place that has that. We got the four course meal, We ordered, beef tartar, hamachi, foie gras, scallops, and lamb. I personally don't like lamb but my boyfriend thinks it was the best lamb ever. My friends and I agree that VIda is the best restaurant in Indianapolis. This place is a food experience. Vida could compete in any food city in the country. My advice to Vida is to go slowly. A couple of times, we have gotten the tasting menu, but neither time were we able to make it through the meal. From now on, we just pick and choose off the menu. The portions are bigger than they seem. They no longer have wine pairings on the menu, but they are happy to put together something for you (and I recommend wine with your meal here given how knowledgeable the staff is about pairings). The staff is very attentive, the preparation is flawless, and the menu is well thought through. Every aspect of the Vida experience is perfect. read more

I will have to admit that the cost of this place is very pricey so it is just a place you would go to for special occasions such as anniversaries. The food is amazing. It is French cuisine that reminded me of when we were in Paris. The level of service and care we received was top notch. We had four courses and a wine to pair with. The beef tartare we had was very good and reminded us to a similar flavor we had in Europe. The used a lot of house grown herbs with the preparation. The foie gras was seared which was a different way to prepare it but really enhanced the flavors. The duck we had was accented with cherries and then they gave us an extra dessert that was personalized for my 30th birthday. I highly recommend this place but I do suggest for special occasions only as it is very pricey. read more

I've been a fan of Vida since my first visit, and even though they have made a few changes to the way the menu works, I still give it five stars after my fifth visit! My wife and I invited fellow Yelper's Kim G and David G to meet us for dinner recently, their first visit. Fortunately for us, they like to ask questions and order different items from the menu and are willing to share samples so that we could get an idea of what we might be missing. I am pretty sure they enjoyed it as much as we did. The change I mentioned in my opening statement is that instead of offering a preset five course meal for $65 (with an optional wine pairing for an additional $40), they now offer a four-course meal for the same price. The benefit is that now you can build your own menu, selecting one item from each of the courses listed. You still have the option to select ala carte menu items if you want slightly larger portions, but I believe most people will find eating from four courses is quite filling enough. The setting and the service are still at the top of the chart for people who want to be able to carry on conversation while dining. There is just enough buzz to keep it from feeling stodgy, but the high ceilings, the slatted panels, and the carpeted flooring dampen that noise that makes some upscale restaurants unpleasant. It also helps that the bar is separated from the main dining hall by the reception area between buildings. Many of the items on the menu may have components that are unfamiliar to you. I have found that by simply asking for clarification, the staff is willing to help you understand what to expect. About the only thing they can't explain is how fantastic the food tastes! Trust me that this is one of those places that you can't help but feel like you are in for a special evening. Note that I seldom go out in large groups so I can't say how that experience would be, but this place is perfect for couples and small groups who are willing to trust the chefs have designed courses that are deliciously paired. I cannot say enough GREAT things about Vida. While it is more $$$ than most places I eat, it was more than worth it. My husband and I met a couple of friends for dinner during Devour Indy. We all decided to order off the Devour menu which considered of 3 courses for $45/person. I got the salad for an appetizer, salmon for my entree and a chocolate pretzel dessert. The salmon was a little salty but nothing over the top-I don't cook with salt so I'm very sensitive to it. My husband ordered the Tuna for his appetizer, Filet for his entree, and doughnuts for his dessert. Said his Filet was one of the best he's ever had. Went here for a business dinner with three others. Restaurant is spacious and has really nice decor. We were seated promptly and the service was attentive. Food was excellent and imaginative. Menu apparently changes constantly. We had four courses. First up was carrots done a variety of ways: crisped, mashed and whole. Really enjoyed. Second was a mushroom dish which had really great flavors. Main was a wagyu ribeye which was really awesome. Very much enjoyed this star of the show. Desert was a chocolate bomb which was ok. I enjoyed the donuts more and would recommend those. I want to give this five stars but will knock off one star on account of the sommelier. On our 2nd bottle we ordered a 2015 Pinot Noir from the Sta Rita Hills. He brought the 2014 vintage and I think he expected we would not notice. Nope. Sent it back. Wine list was pretty extensive but maybe it needs to be properly updated. In the final analysis I recommend and would come back to this place. read more

Phenomenal. We did devour Indy at the uber-friendly bar. Tuna with crispy rice and quail egg app and truffle fondue orecchiette app were two of the best dishes I've ever eaten. Everything salmon was an upscale version of my NYC bagel n lox dream without the bagel and with some perfectly tender and plump lentils. French onion tart was all veggie and incredibly crisp and flavorful. Ricotta donuts are light enough to float away. Jane made a killer sazerac with cognac and absinthe, along with the fantastic November tailgate and el chapo. Easily the best restaurant in town (sorry milktooth, I still love you though), and in my top 5 all time. read more

Very fond of the space, the location --Lockerbie Square-- hard to believe this is where that crappy Italian place used to be. This 'test kitchen' is a fun concept and they artfully combine foods and flavors. Love the herb wall, cocktails and desserts most especially. When it first opened, it took the waiter at least two minutes to describe each dish. I think they have that a little better under control now, thankfully. Fantastic meal. At first we were seated in the bar, which was far too noisy for such an expensive, enjoyable experience. We asked for a change, and they were able to move us to an upstairs table where the noise level was more reasonable. Then we proceeded with some of the best food we've ever had. Who knew you could make a simple carrot into such an amazingly tasty dish. All 4 courses we ordered were outstanding. And while the pace was "leisurely", the service was very good. Both were cooked perfectly and composed of flavors and textures that complimented each other perfectly. There's nothing that wouldn't be good on their menu because you can tell the chefs are exceptional as well as the ingredients they choose. As an appetizer I went with the Scallops crudo with house made berry vinegar. The crudo was a healthy serving of scallops. Crispy raw carrots and radish provide some texture, while greens including endive provided some bitterness. This dish was a bit heavy on pepper and bitterness from the endives and could use some acidity to balance it out. Scallops were not as sweet as I was expecting. A bit more of the homemade raspberry vinagrette would have been perfect. The dark blue ring caused by the marination process would have shown more on a different color serving plate instead of a black bowl. For the main course I ordered the Beet linguini with sea bass. Interesting take on linguini Pickled rhubarb, rainbow radishes, fresh dill and a 'beet marinara' sauce reminded me of borscht. Unfortunately the linguini was overcooked and soaked up a lot of the butter and sauce. The pickled rhubarb provided a break from the heaviness of the dish but overall the dish lacked brightness. Sea bass was perfectly cooked. Seared and crusted with salt and pepper on one side, simple. Well executed but nothing special. For dessert I went with the Strawberry dacquoise which was delicious. The white chocolate bark with pink peppercorn stole the show. It should be layered inside the dessert! I wanted more of it. This dessert was not overly sweet. it was a great mix of pistachios and strawberry and fluffy cake. Gelee was a bit too dense but otherwise fantastic end to a good meal.

There's a few different options of cheeses and meats, it's sort of a choose your own adventure situation. All were good, especially the calamari. A lot of restaurants tend to overcook it and the calamari gets rubbery, not the case here. Our entrees came out next and I made sure to try a bite of everyone's LOL. The standout of all the entrees was definitely the "Duck, duck" which was, obviously, duck. The runner up would definitely have to be the chicken cacciatore. The chicken udon noodles were fantastic- packed full of flavor and tons of toppings in it. The short rib fell a little short of my expectations, but I had high expectations to begin with. We have had the short rib multiple times in the past- and normally it is a hunk of meat, similar to a roast. Now, it is strips of tiny pieces of meat with a bone attached to it. If the owner/general manager is reading this- GO BACK TO THE ROAST STYLE- the strips of meat was too much work to eat. Still packed full of great flavor though. I had the bridge to Anshun for my drink. I had never had Baiju before, but glad I tried it. It was a tangy drink that was also sweet- would say it's a must try. Overall, some changes since our last visit that weren't expected, but overall had a great evening here. Can't wait to return.

In town on family business, for a couple of days, I was looking for someplace interesting for…read moredinner on a Wednesday evening. It had been before the pandemic since my last time in Indianapolis and much has changed on the city's dining and drinking landscape. Following a recommendation from a bartender at Sundry & Vice, I made my way to BODHI. I didn't have reservations, which I'd strongly recommend, since the place was packed on Wednesday night before 6PM. Fortunately, I was able to snag a seat at the bar, which was ideal since I was dining solo. Upon scanning the hip, high-energy, yet petite dining room, I had a sense of deja vu about it before realizing that I had been in this space before back when it was Black Market. I started off with a cocktail from Bodhi's intriguing and expansive drink list, a 7 Realms of Happiness, made with Old Hamer Bourbon, Faccia Brutto Centerbe, Cappelletti amaro, saffron honey, and lemon. My thought was that it's their twist on a classic Whiskey Smash. It was bittersweet, yet balanced, and simply a delight. As for the food, BODHI's menu is concise hitting the most of the Thai food usual suspects. I had the Papaya Salad and the Shrimp Green Curry. The papaya salad came out first. I was pleasantly surprised by its plating, looking much more like an elaborate entree with its cashews, watermelon radish, and chicharrones than the humble side salad atop a leaf of lettuce or cabbage that I've usually received at virtually every Thai restaurant I've ever been. It was just a pretty plate as it tasted even better than it looked. It was fresh and flavorful as those flavors popped from the perfect balance of salty, sweet, sour, spicy, and funky. It was the best rendition of a papaya salad that I've tasted. My bowl of curry was no less successful in balancing those diverse Thai flavor profiles. Unlike some/many other curries I've had where it seems like a bowl full of sauce with bits and pieces of protein or vegetables, Bodhi's rendition achieved the perfect "solids to sauce" ratio. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and the curry itself was bold and bright on my tongue. It was a delicious spoonful. I loved it! For "dessert", I had a second cocktail, the Garnet, a booze-forward whisky drink made with Mars Iwai Tradition, Pinhook Rye, Akashi Ume Plum whisky, Veda Mushroom Liqueur, Balsamic Vermouth, celery & orange bitters, and topped with a Moon Smoke Bubble. It was very unique, tasty and satisfying, if not a bit difficult to describe. I would maybe compare it to an Asian-influenced Vieux Carre and I thought it was excellent. I'm not sure how to best describe the place. Was it as an amazing Thai restaurant that also does incredible cocktails or an amazing cocktail bar that also does killer Thai food? Regardless, I could not have enjoyed my experience more. If/when I'm back in Indy, BODHI is at the top of my list for a visit!

Seemed to be over-proofed. The cornbread was absolutely phenomenal and a must-have! A special shoutout to our waitress, Arya, who noticed our disappointment with the focaccia and generously brought us the cornbread on the house. That kind of service is truly memorable! I also had the beets and peaches salad, which was refreshing but a tad overdressed. Still, I couldn't resist finishing the entire dish. For my main course, I ordered the lasagna, and I can confidently say it was one of the best I've ever had. It wasn't overloaded with cheese and instead complemented by mushrooms and pesto, and surprisingly light on the stomach. My husband chose the filet and rated it an 8/10, saying he thoroughly enjoyed it. We were so full by the end that we skipped dessert. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful, and the staff was incredibly attentive throughout our meal. The only downside was the atmosphere; coming from Chicago, we expected a more bustling vibe on a Thursday night. It seems Indianapolis is a bit quieter during the week. "What a great addition to the already fabulous offerings around Indy by the Cunningham Restaurant Group! The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. I love the lettuce and herb wall that greets diners on arrival! If I could only figure out how to install one in my house... We started with some wine and cocktails along with the smaller version of the charcuterie board and a delicious assortment of pieces of bread. Our server very helpfully suggested the smaller version for the 4 of us since we were planning on salads and entrees as well. The house-made charcuterie was amazing! Everything was so flavorful; I even enjoyed the blood sausage despite not usually being a fan of that! My cocktail, the Belo Horizonte, was excellent and not too sweet to go with food - blood orange and ginger with a spirit our server said was from sugar cane, along with something called ""navy strength rum"". The bread basket included a delicious variety of house-made selections including an Amish coffee cake like creation, onion focaccia, and mini brioche loaves. We had to get salads of course! How can you not, when the lettuce is growing right there in front of you? I had the red oak salad which was fresh and delicious. Their twist on a Caesar salad looked interesting as well with a fried smelt replacing the anchovies. For my entree, I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly with a slightly crisp exterior and the interior cooked to about what in meat terms, I'd say was about medium. The flavor was excellent! The accompanying vegetables and sauces complimented nicely without overpowering the delicious fish. For dessert, we shared an order of the donuts and the creamsicle. Both were delicious, and 2 desserts to share among 4 of us was perfect after all the other food we ate. Our server was excellent. He knew the menu extremely well and did an excellent job describing the dishes and ingredients. Courses were timed perfectly, and utensils were replaced after each course which was a nice touch! Vida is the best restaurant in Indianapolis in my opinion. This is where you should go if you have an anniversary, birthday, or anything worth celebrating. And if you don't and just want to have an amazing dinner that will blow your mind, you better end up here. My first experience we ordered individual courses from the regular menu and added wines to pair. Just having that option was exciting and an added plus. This recent visit we went for a late anniversary celebration and ordered from the tasting menu. Mine was adjusted slightly since I'm off the red meat and pig. I had no idea they did that! They even have a vegetarian tasting menu option. Had I not wanted the scallops, I definitely would've ordered from this menu. Everything on it sounded delightful. We started with the amuse bouche, a delicious bite to set the tone for what's to come. After that bite I was grinning like a Cheshire cat. As each course came out paired with a wine, I kept wondering how they were going to top the last course. BUT THEY DID. If I had to pick a favorite course, I would say the scallops. They were seared, creamy, sweet, mild, everything you want in a scallop. Served with sweet corn and chanterelle mushroom. Oh man, all of my favorite things on one plate. The service was everything you would expect at a high end restaurant, knowledgeable, professional, appearing at just the right times and not overbearing. We utilized their sommelier as we wanted a bottle of wine to supplement in between the courses. This was definitely not necessary, but it's how we roll. He recommended three wines based on my description of what I was wanting, all in varying price points. We chose a nice Chablis, drank half and took the rest home with us. When people ask where they should go for dinner? Say Vida. While the tasting menu is pricey, you can keep your costs down by ordering from their regular menu. And if you have that special occasion? Make a reservation and be prepared to grin from ear to ear. It's that good. read more

Came here for my birthday. Let's talk about first impressions: to start, they have free parking behind the restaurant! So rare for a downtown location! And then you walk into a warm, modern, and welcoming room that showcases an open concept kitchen and the beautiful living salad wall. We were escorted to our table and introduced to our server, who was just one of the delightful people who would take care of us throughout the evening. Because even though Vida looks new and boasts a current menu, the service is nothing but old-school. We had someone to pour our wine, someone to bring us bread (Amish cinnamon bread!), someone to refill our water, and someone else to explain our dishes as they arrived, combined with regular checking-in from our main server. It was classic service at its best. Husband ordered the tasting menu, along with a serving of polenta. I ordered the wall salad (how could I resist eating a salad picked off the wall?!) and the filet. Husband's small plates included some beef short ribs, scallops, and this incredible truffle orecchiette that caused me to practice self-control in order not to eat it all for him. His menu came with pavlova for dessert (one of his favorites!) and the restaurant treated me to ricotta doughnuts with brown butter ice-cream for my birthday dessert. The restaurant was gorgeous, our food was edible art, and our entire experience was full of the best kind wonder and magic that makes for a foodie's paradise. First I want to say this was the best meal I have had in Indy and I totally food geeked out over this place I come to Indy twice a year for the do it best mark. I get taken out to eat a lot in this city. Vida hit the mark spot on for me. Upon arrival it is a gorgeous restaurant outside featuring these awesome double doors and fire place with loungers for waiting. When you enter you see the beautiful open kitchen with living wall loaded with kale, lettuce, herbs an other items used for each meal. We had a cocktail before dinner. The bartender was amazing as he explained the bourbons but I started with a gin and tonic featuring Portland gin and house tonic just amazing. We decided on the 4 course meal but added an additional course a main Our waitress was outstanding. We asked for a special pairings. Using they best wines. She was perfect. We were amazing she had only been there a week it was like she was there 10 years. The food amazing, beautiful platings. I had a chance to talk to the chef and tip the kitchen. Truly an exceptional dining experience in Indianapolis. Having visited three times, my admiration for this establishment only grows with each visit. The chef's culinary prowess is truly that of an artist, and the food served is nothing short of delectable. Without a doubt, I highly recommend indulging in the exquisite bluefin tuna. It was so exquisite that I regretted not ordering a second serving, as those at my table who missed out on it were visibly envious. For the second course, I opted for the fried chicken, which was intriguing, but I must admit that my preference lies with their non-fried menu offerings. However, it was the ribeye that truly stole the show. Its succulent flavors were so heavenly that I could easily savor it every day for the rest of my life. When it comes to dessert, the donuts are an absolute must-try. Their sheer decadence is a perfect ending to a magnificent meal. Although I opted for the four-course menu, my friend chose the tasting menu, and I must admit, I am eager to try it on my next visit. While the portions may seem smaller compared to the four-course option, the diversity of flavors my friend experienced was truly impressive and catered to her discerning palate. The whole experience at Vida was amazing, starting from the call the day before our meal to confirm our reservation. They understand good service. It's all in the details, and they have those down pat. During the confirmation call, the hostess asked for food allergies, whether the meal was for a celebration and if this was our first visit. Those things were confirmed again in person upon arrival. Alex, our server, was brilliant. He explained our ordering options (we opted for the 4-course menu), offered wine pairings (we passed; ordered the Scofflaw cocktail instead, which was fantastic) and thoroughly described meals when we asked for suggestions. He was definitely the best server we've had in recent memory. The food was fantastic. Between the two of us, we had the foie gras, agnolotti, roasted roots (phenomenal!), halibut, striploin, cinnamon roll terrine and chocolate (mousse with passion fruit and coconut). Each plate was perfectly-sized and contained a wonderful mix of textures and flavors. The atmosphere are decor were beautiful, as to be expected from the Cunningham restaurants. Everything felt comfortable, yet elegant. The Vida menu changes with the seasons; my husband and I decided before the meal was even finished (during the 3rd course) we'd be back soon to experience new flavors. Our group celebrated my son's 18th birthday at Vida. The bliss on everyone's faces as they savored each dish was a treat. Having enjoyed fine dining in Los Angeles and New York, I can confidently say that Vida stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of them. The staff's expertise, warmth, and genuine hospitality were remarkable. Our lead server, Alex, left a lasting impression with his tactful, graceful, and attentive service. His thoughtfulness shone through when he discreetly noticed a younger member of our party sharing most of her portions. Without drawing attention, Alex quietly brought her a beautifully prepared plate of pasta--a gesture that exemplified his exceptional care. We dine at Vida on Saturday evening. The event was for my parents anniversary and the restaurant was informed. Upon walking in the door we were rushed to our table. They mention the craft cocktails in all of their advertising, but we were not asked by hostess or waitstaff if we cared for a cocktail. (Table next to us stated the same). The formal dining area was extremely loud, due in part to servers that spoke overly loudly. The food was good. We order 4-course dining and order some wine. they have an open kitchen which is cool and adding more ambiance to the place. They need to step up the training of their employees. I know that the venue is like this needs to be more formal and quiet and they have room for growth. They truly need to have someone come in and train the staff on ambiance and exceptional service. We are lucky to have several examples in Indianapolis. Over the years we have been to other restaurants and they afford great service from staff that learns the return customers by name. I feel that this restaurant will blossom but definitely needs work on their people skills & server training. We will dine again in the future to give them a second chance. read more

Vida was truly an unforgettable dining experience from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere strikes a rare balance: sophisticated and elegant, yet somehow still warm, comfortable, and relaxing. It feels special without feeling stuffy, which is not easy to accomplish. The food was absolutely out of this world. The ribeye was genuinely one of the best steaks I have ever had, cooked beautifully and packed with incredible flavor. The bread tasted like something made from scratch in someone's kitchen with care, not simply brought to a table as an afterthought. Every detail felt intentional. And the doughnut dessert... wow. That deserves its own review. Absolutely phenomenal and the perfect ending to the meal. What really elevated the evening, though, was the service. Alex was our waiter, and he was outstanding. He and the entire staff didn't just serve dinner, they helped create a memory. They were attentive, thoughtful, and made the occasion feel genuinely special. This is probably one of or the best fine dining restaurants in Indianapolis and on par with 1 Michelin star restaurants (unfortunately Michelin guide doesn't cover indy restaurants). We got the chef's tasting menu. All the items were very good and there nice complex but delicious flavors. I loved the lobster and the amuse bouche the most, and I typically I don't like Brussel sprouts but the way they were prepared and served with the lobster with this crunchy texture (and smoky flavor? Or that might have been another ingredient in the dish) was amazing!! The service was amazing and the waiters for kind but also very knowledgeable. They made us feel very comfortable. The ambiance of the place is very nice for a romantic date and I love the furniture and room decor! My girlfriend and I were celebrating our graduation there and they even had custom menus with our names on them which was very cute! And they really did make the experience feel personalized. What an amazing venu Vida is! The service, the atmopshere and the wine are all completely on point! On our first visit here we opted for the tasting menu so that we could maximize our experience of all the amazing flavors offered by this lovely restaurant. With each course, it seemed like everything got better and better :-) Not only was the food amazing but the service was nothing short of exceptional; we mentioned when we were seated that we had come for a celebration and our server very thoughtfully brought complimentary champagne for us to make a toast! I had an exceptional dining experience, thanks in large part to the outstanding service provided by Ryan, my waiter--A+. The food was excellent overall. Despite not being a fan of duck, I found their duck dish so delicious that I could eat it every day. The ricotta donuts were also superb. From the moment I walked in, every employee was incredibly attentive and ensured I had a great experience. Although I wasn't thrilled with the foie gras, it was promptly replaced without hesitation. I was very disheartened today when I was riding my bicycle home on New York St and a car raced past me and made a sharp right within a few feet from me. This maneuver is commonly referred to as a right hook in the cycling community. The car quickly parked and I saw it was a man in a chef's outfit from Vida Indianapolis. The man was driving a green SUV with a chicken sticker on the back. I would appreciate if more people, especially those with interest on the near east side were more courteous to people who use a bicycle for transportation. read more

My Experience was disappointing. It started off on the wrong foot before we were even in the door. Vida's policy is apparently to block off public street parking with traffic cones for their own use and then charge diners to have have a valet park their car on the street. The decor was nice and the hydroponic garden was an interesting concept, But food and service, just like the parking scheme, came off as pretentious. read more
