A quaint place in a large plaza, by TJ's. I don't know of any other places they offer banh khot around here unless you make the drive to Newark, Milpitas, or SJ. We were served with dirty spoons that we had to ask for new one, we also had to ask for napkins twice. The foods were very bland compared to last time I had. I was pretty skeptical about a four star Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Livermore and with such a hipster name, I was figuring there's no way it's good. But my usual place was closed and I was heading out this way anyways and the only place not closed during lunch hours, Viet Noms was the next best option for pho. It's located in a pretty old plaza with plenty of parking and hard to miss the front door. It was empty upon entering, but was greeted promptly by the staff. They offered waters and the menu to look over. Very simple menu to look over with a few selection of pictures to help you along the way. It look a while to get our waitress' attention, even though it was so dead inside. They took drink orders first, young coconut and a Vietnamese iced coffee (free with your yelp check in). The young coconut was the bomb and you get the whole coconut, make sure you scrap the coconut flesh from the insides. Got an order of the chicken wings (6) which came with 4 but it was huge! The breading a little to thick for my liking, but it had a good crunch to it and came with a small side of salad/ pickled veggies, and sweet chili dipping sauce. The pho bo (8/10) you get an option of up to 3 meat selection and I got the rare beef and tripe. The meat was plentiful actually for the portions, I was pleasantly surprised by it. But the broth was so condensed with MSG that it was uncomfortably hard to continue to eat. The noodles were tender and not too soggy, but the soup just made it so hard to drink. I could see where they get the high ratings from for being only one of the only decent viet options in the area. I believe that their bbq and other plates probably brings up the stars here, but pho wise, it didn't hit the spot. Left extremely thirsty and unsatisfying. Bun Rieu seems to be one of the most popular dishes at this establishment but, I couldn't pass up my go to- - Bun Bo Hue. I'm sure glad I didn't as it was delicious and refreshing! The red-hued broth was aromatic and a splash of lime added a nice brightness to the bold flavors. The combination rice plate with grilled pork was slightly under seasoned and dry. It needed a heavy douse of the nuoc mam sauce to enhanced the flavor and rehydrate the pork. However, the steamed pork, crispy shrimp, and a fried egg over rice were all tasty. Banh Khot was delightful! These little bite-sized kettle cakes had a crispy exterior topped with tender shrimp and scallions- - a homage to Banh Xeo. The accompanying nuoc mam sauce added a nice flavor. Note: it could have used a little less batter to ensure the interior would be cooked through to eliminate the gooey center. It seemed like we had brought in the crowd tonight. Service was a tad bit slow, but they were busy, so it was to be expected, especially with only 2 servers. My daughters order the pho ga (chicken), small which was only $10. Great price!! My younger one said it didn't have as much flavor as the other place we go, but don't let that fool you from her not finishing My older daughter actually liked it better. So WIN-WIN! I had the Bún bò Huế, which is is spicy beef soup. Broth was very balanced with the right amount of spice, not overbearing like some places. Overall, we will definitely be going. Been to this restaurant several times. Food quality has always been consistent. Unlike most pho restaurants, this place actually has ambiance, service, and feels clean. Wifey got the pho bo (chose rare beef, brisket, and tendon). I tasted the pho. Broth was balanced and flavorful, but not overpowering. Noodles were good and the meats tasted great. I should have had the rare meat sooner cuz it was already well-done when I ate it. The brisket was soft the way it should be. Tendon was tender and not overly chewy. 4 stars. I ordered the grilled pork chop rice plate with the nom nom rice plate (I got fried egg, imperial egg roll, and shrimp cakes for the 3 add-ons). The dish presentation was amazing. The shrimp cakes were my least favorite in the dish. Grilled pork chop was delicious and even better paired with rice. The fried egg on top of the rice was a nice touch. Would have liked it a bit more runny, but no harm. The egg roll was small and ordinary, but it was just a side. 4 stars for the dish and 3 stars for the add-on's. I have had the pho chay (vegetarian pho) before, and the broth was very flavorful. In many places, the vegetarian soup is bland and has little to no flavor which I can't stand. This is now my favorite pho place. It is definitely more expensive than most pho places, but given its deliciousness, dish presentation, service, cleanliness, and ambiance, I give this place 5 stars and definitely will come back often. read more

First time ordering here. I eat a lot of pho and Vietnamese food is probably in my top 5 favorites! We ordered the chicken salad and rare meat and brisket pho. Broth was OK. But the rare meat was GREY. And smelled. Literally as soon as you opened the box the smell of rotting meat hit your nostrils like a slap to the face. I ended up just eating the noodles and broth since I couldn't stomach the meat at all, which was unfortunate because it was a pricey soup. Parking was free and super easy since it is located in a plaza. Once we walked in, the restaurant is really spacious and has lots of booths for 4+ people and tables for larger size parties! The waiter asks first what you would like to drink. Unfortunately hot tea has a extra cost, wish it was free. I ordered a Rice Vermicelli Bowl as it comes cold and is my favorite dish because of the nuoc mam fish sauce that goes so well with the noodles and chicken meat and vegetables. My friend ordered a pho with beef and the soup was delicious. Love this restaurant and it hit the spot for Vietnamese food cravings. Ever since moving to this area, my husband and I have tried every Vietnamese restaurant, but nothing came close to Vietnamese dishes from San Jose or Sacramento. Viet Noms comes real close and it is pretty tasty! For the appetizer, we had the banh khot. If they ever decide to make banh xeo instead, I would be first in line to get one- not many restaurants make it anymore! We had the pho bo dac biet and bun thit cha gio nuong (rice noodle bowl with grilled shrimp and egg rolls). All were delicious, well cooked, and perfectly seasoned. Just visited this place for lunch for the first time... first impression.. place seems a bit bland.. tables are ok clean. For appetizer I ordered the spring rolls with shrimp and pork.. it was ok.. the noodles were soggy.. the sauce was good but lacked peanut flavor. Another appetizer I ordered was the banh cot. This was actually my fav. It was delicious! Crunchy greatness with no soggy inside. Two thumbs up for those! For my entree I ordered the chicken pho.. when she placed it in front of me.. it looked bland and looks like it might lack flavor but to my dismay.. it was actually good! Tasty broth came piping hot.. you can't find a place with piping hot broth now a days. Reasoning for the 4 stars and not 5... the drinks we ordered want that great.. my Thai teA lacked sweetness .. the sprite we ordered didn't have syrup and they ran out to replace a different cup so we had to order a different soda. Not a bad place for a quick bite. Just don't expect any good service or quality food. The price is reasonable. The service: not so good. We went there with our toddler. When we were seated, we ask for a high chair. She acknowledged that we needed a high chair, so instead grabbing a high chair for us, she went to an other table to take orders. When she was taking our order, she ask my husband what size, and my husband said large. His order came out as regular size. The food: it is hit and a miss. First time we went there it wasn't bad. The second time was not so good. Soup weren't hot enough. There wasn't much meat in there as was before . It seems the owner is letting untrained teenagers running the show. I understand that the girls working there were Latin, but did they not know they were working at a Vietnamese restaurant!? And, does the owner even know that they play that kind of music? This place though, was $11-$12 for small & $13-$16 for large. OMG. It's insulting that they charge a lot, as if you ordered extra, but you didn't. This is coming from somebody who has gone to pho restaurants for years. Our purpose for coming to this specific location, was to get pho w/ out MSG, also, I was sick, and I needed my pho fix, so I guess coming here one time was enough. But good job, no MSG in the broth through! I felt like the spring rolls wasn't fresh btw..I had fresher & CHEAPER elsewhere. Our main waitress was nice. There was another girl though, that seemed like she was rushing everything, just to get the job done, without being friendly at all. That's what I'm saying though, like the music thing, ya know? Livermore has been missing a solid Vietnamese eatery, and now it has one. Viet Noms is a welcome addition to the Trader Joe's shopping center downtown, with a small but solid selection of Vietnamese staples. My wife and I stopped by for lunch on a rare day without the kids, and ordered hot jasmine tea and cold Vietnamese coffee while we took a look at the menu. I decided to order a Banh Mi - it had been a while since I'd had this classic sandwich and it also was a good test for the restaurant. She decided to try the Banh Khot - mini kettle cakes with shrimp and chives. Our food took a while but we didn't mind. We first tried the Banh Khot - just ok in my book, but my wife really enjoyed them, especially when she added lettuce and mint, which she said helped cut back on the oiliness. My Banh Mi, on the other hand, was amazing - the baguette was fresh and the right level of crunchy, the meat inside quite flavorful. But what took it to the next level were the pickled carrots, cilantro and jalapeño inside. Especially the jalapeño - each slice exploded in my mouth and went so well with everything else I was in foodie heaven! I'm happy Livermore finally has a decent Vietnamese restaurant - the missus wants to try some of the other items on the menu. I can't tell you how happy I am that Viet Noms exists in Livermore. Having moved from Southern California where a Vietnamese restaurant can be found on every street, I was reluctant to try the very few here in the East Bay. During my first visit, I ordered the bun bo hué. It was a bowl of spicy, delicious goodness that left me crying from happiness. The pho broth here is perfect. That's all you need to know, so just order that and you won't be disappointed. Their cuts of beef, tripe, and tendon are great. At other restaurants, I've had very poor quality meats. Their vermicelli and rice plates are so delicious! I've only had the grilled chicken and lemongrass tofu, but both are so flavorful. Spring rolls and egg rolls are also the bomb here. While I much prefer spring rolls, their egg rolls are perfectly fried with a good amount of filling. I've never had shrimp cakes like the ones they have here, but let me tell you... it's quite wonderful. They're just shrimp cakes with flaky, crispy tofu sheets wrapped around it and served with a sweet & sour dipping sauce. Tell me that doesn't sound amazing to you. Ugh, I want some now. Bo loc lac is also good here. The beef is tender and well-seasoned, while the garlic rice is mouth wateringly delicious! Also, they have che!! This sweet, creamy dessert is a must try. Rushing to get to a class for work I stopped by here to get a Thai ice tea and maybe a snack The location is in the old canton village place that moved. They have a smaller menu with staples such as sori g rolls both fried and fresh, pad thai and pho. I ordered a Thai ice tea which was $3.50 (typical price) and a chicken banh mi. The sand which was $8.00 and a huge portion. Served on a crispy roll with all the fixings such as jalapeños and cilantro. It was great and came out fast. I was a little disappointed because I checked in and got half off of a drunk that they wouldn't let me use because it was Togo.
