On our way to Tahoe, stopped here for lunch. Upon walking in the door there was the undeniable aroma of pho intertwined with other Viet dishes. We ordered a large pho bo vien (meatball), mi xao gion hai san (crispy egg noodle with seafood and vegetables) and the com dac biet (special combo rice plate). All 3 dishes were delicious and authentic. Just as good as anything you'll find in SoCal. The owner was there to help out and checked in on us. Delicious banh mi sandwiches! We tried the BBQ pork and the tofu. Both sandwiches were super buttery, served on a nice baguette with delicious pickled and fresh veggies, including carrots, daikon, cucumber, jalepeño, and lettuce. We were driving through Reno, and we were looking for a Pho spot. Walked in, and we were already greeted with a smile. They had a good selection on their menu. The staff were all very nice. We were in town from LA for a snowboarding trip and after getting massages (see my "Excellent Massage" review), my boyfriend had a craving for Vietnamese food. The closest one was Viet Pho, and when I looked on Yelp, we were initially put off by the 3.5 star review. We were also super hungry, however and didn't feel like driving around, so we gave it a chance - and I'm so glad we did! The waiter and likely owner (there seemed to be an older married couple running it) was an extremely cheerful and sweet person. I got the tofu vermicelli and my bf got the shrimp vermicelli, and we split an order of spring rolls w peanut sauce. It was all so delicious and I didn't feel weighed down after eating a vacation diet of casino food and ski cafeteria fare For days. "0" STARS!! My family and I walked in. We weren't greeted. They weren't even busy. Only 1 customer was paying . We went and just sat anywhere. It's possibly the owner who was an "older Asian lady" came and asked us for how many waters. She didn't even greet us. I said "8" since there were 8 of us. I had 2 small children (between 3 & 5 y/o). She immediately said "Well the kids will not finish it so it will just be a waste!" I then told her okay then "7." They brought us 7-8 cup of waters. 6 out 8 cups were only halfway filled. She asked if we'd like ice in all of them? We said yes but only 1-2 cups barely had ice. If you're serving anyone at a restaurant you don't put your personal opinion with that kind of statement! The waitress came after we ate our food asked if we need more water. It was already too pointless to do that. When the same older lady and waitress brought our foods out, that lady says "the plate with the rice." I immediately corrected her "if you don't say the order # or what the food consists of, we will not know." She ignored me and still said the same thing with another of our orders. I ordered a combination pho and didn't have any meatballs. Our order of dumpling was only microwaveable and soggy potstickers! It came out within 2 min. as a last min add on order. We should have walked out at the beginning but we were very patient and had to speak up for ourselves. While we were eating, we noticed the older lady being friendly and smiling talking to another customer sitting behind us. We've been here at least a few times and it's no wonder there's hardly any customers. We usually just see 1-2 other small table filled. We will not be returning. We only stopped by as it was on the way to our next destination. The older Asian lady and the staff needs serious training on how to provide customer service. As far as the quality of the food, I would NOT recommend it. My party ordered pho, vermicelli bowls and an order of eggrolls. My biggest disappointment was the pho. The broth lacked so much flavor. It literally tasted like water with a pinch of salt. The rare steak was already cooked at the bottom of the bowl. I couldn't even finish it. Food is decent if your craving Vietnamese food but you'll be overpaying for mediocre pho and they can be super slow delivering it to you (45+ min for plain beef pho because it's very disorganized. The workers in the front are very nice. The sit-down menu is not updated with the prices as their togo paper menu so you'll be shelling a couple more bucks for each item. I went to this establishment just for a Bahn Mi pork sandwich. I will say it was one of the best I've ever had...the pork was so juicy and delicious, as most places it's dry and overcooked. This definitely was a party in my mouth. I ordered to go as I viewed the menu, a few customers were there and they were having different items and there items looked delicious! I was stuck on the sandwich as I heard they made their own bread as well! I will say that I think this is my new place for a Bahn Mi...it was filled with Bbq pork, the Vietnamese radishes, some greens and of course jalapeño. I was so happy to come home with the 6 inch I bought for 6.95 or you can get a foot long for 12.95. It filled my belly just fine and the flavor was fantastic! The customer service couldn't have been any better as the server explained it would take about 10 minutes to cook the pork...the pork I can't rave enough about as it was so juicy and not thinned out and over cooked as I've gotten from others. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to try some of the other dishes they have, I saw other plates being served and appetizers. Come here if you want slow-to-no-service and food that you can only classify as edible because it definitely wasn't great. It was snowing and my husband and I decided to check this place out, because who wouldn't want a nice pho to keep you warm when it's cold outside. We walk in and noticed it was nearly empty with only one other table being serviced. We ordered chicken egg rolls. 3 for almost $6 and they were the tiniest and most bland egg rolls. Avocado smoothie was chunky and inconsistent texture and way too sweet. Vietnamese coffee was decent but I've had way better, especially in the Bay Area so my expectations were far higher. Chicken Vietnamese sandwich looked amazing and fresh but we were disappointed to find the chicken dry, unseasoned and very little chicken to begin with. Otherwise it would have been delicious. The wonton noodle soup (egg noodles) was the only decent thing I tasted. The wontons had great flavor and weren't falling apart like my experience at other places. The noodles were good with great texture not over or undercooked. As far as the service we had a young girl as our Server. She came and took our order and we thought it was going well. She came back a second time to bring us our coffee and avocado smoothie and came back for the last time to drop off half our order. The other half was dropped off by second person, and older man I assumed was working the kitchen. That was the last time we would see anyone until it was time to pay. No one came back during our meal to check on how we were doing or if we needed anything else (we did). No water was offered either and I needed/wanted some water as well. An older lady came to our table only until my husband and I were done with our food to ask if we needed anything. At that point instead of asking for the water and napkins that I needed before, I just asked for the check, paid, and left. Went yesterday for a quick snack. 1st time here. Ordered 2 spring rolls. The rolls came out and were cut in half with peanut sauce in a small bowl. The worst rolls I have ever had in Reno and I have gone to all the Viet restaurants. The rolls are suppose to be wrapped in rice paper and then have plastic wrap around them. Well when taking the plastic off there was no rice wrapper and all the rice/lettuce/shrimp would just fall on the plate. The Cashier told me there is rice paper around them but there was not. She told me to talk to the owner who was standing next to me. I told him these were the worst rolls in town and he should go to pho 777 or golden flower or the Viet shop on kietzke and see how they make their rolls. I was kind of skeptical about this place at first, but my friends and I decided to give it a try. We all ordered Thai Tea and it was honestly one of the best Thai Teas I've had in Reno. The service is incredible too. It's run by a family and they were so nice and attentive. The food is the real reason I am giving them 5 stars. I'm not much of a pho person so every time my friends and I go to a pho spot, I tend to always get the broiled beef plates. I decided to do the same at this location and I am honestly so happy I did.
