Small venue, but it was great not to have to deal with all the ish you would typically have to deal with at most NYC lounges/clubs. I had a great time here. Stopped by around 10, and the waitress helped us reserve a couple tables which worked out great since some of our friends came later and had a place to hang out. I've been here a couple times now, I think there are some serious hits and serious misses. The space itself is small. Almost uncomfortably small - the bar area in particular gets REALLY crowded. There's a back room, but it's not as fun since there's no bar back there and the main crowd is up front. The bartenders, wait staff, busboys, and security have all been fantastic both times! Bartenders are quick and friendly, security is present without being obtrusive and have none of the attitude that has become far too prevalent in security staff these days. Big thumbs up there. Prices are even reasonable for a lounge type atmosphere. Then we get to the music. What the heck is going on? It's some kind of weird mix of genres, decades and beats that just...doesn't work. They need to get that situation...situated...with a quickness. Other than that, I like this place. Overall: Good place (no cover, great music for dancing, not too loud, decent crowd) but the dealbreaker is that it was just way too packed. Wouldn't go back on a Saturday. Went here last night for a birthday party with my friend. It would have been more fun if the place were bigger or less crowded. You had to squeeze and smush yourself to go anywhere. We ended up sticking to a spot near the back just outside the bathroom that had a tiny bit of room to breathe. The DJ was great--playing all kinds of music, with a lot of throwbacks to early 2000s. (For example: As we were leaving, they played "Hot in Herre" by Nelly.) I loved that the music wasn't earsplittingly loud like in most places. They had a seating area that was awkwardly closed off near the bathroom with a wall, which I guess gives the people in there a "VIP" feel, but it must have been annoying for them to squeeze in and out of there. Can't comment on the drinks as all I had was Jameson on the rocks, which you can't really mess up. Despite how crowed it was, it didn't take long to get a drink. Got caught in a rainstorm and stumbled into this place- we fell in love. The perfect intersection between a sports bar, dive bar, and just a good place to get drinks. We ordered Guinnesses and sat at the window- the staff was accommodating, friendly, and promptly brought us another round when we were ready. One of the only bars where I've felt truly comfortable/at home among the staff. They've got plenty of TVs for various sports games- we'll definitely be back here and I can't wait as things open up more. A new favorite spot! read more

I think the fact that this place is so tiny is what makes it really nice- it's nice because it's more of a relaxed atmosphere, just drinks and dancing. No pretension. But then again it's so small that you're bumping into everyone and when people are drunk and dancing and bumping it can be a lot (especially if you aren't very drunk) I'll be back, might check out the table situation. I stopped by to meet a friend, and I would have turned around and left if it weren't for that reason. Once I stepped in, the whole place reeked of bathroom odors. The smell was putrid. I quickly partook in one beer ($5) for their happy hour, and immediately skirted towards the door. Sure they have a good happy hour, $4-6 beers and $7 cocktails, but no way will I come back here until they have their sanitation situation rectified. read more

It's a very buzzy place, definitely. That is only if you can overlook the "suffocating" quality of this small bar (as sb mentioned in the earlier reviews). I managed to enjoy my time there, because I was sitting down on the wall couch (where crown doesn't spill) and we reserved a table for b-day drinks. But my friends sitting across on ottomans - the crowd was literally sitting on top of their heads. DJ is alright (a character - I don't know if he is always there) - he mixed things up well (or maybe it was the 5th Hennessy that did it :) Don't go on weekends, it is SUPER crowded. read more

I've been here for drinks on a a few Friday nights. Strong drinks. Friendly and attentive bartender. Good music. Biggest downside is that this place is noisy. It is so loud in here. Had a great evening at the Vig Bar with a small group of friends. Staff were extremely accommodating, ensuring adequate spacing of all parties. Drinks were delicious. I liked the overall feel of the space. It's kind of small but it wasn't crowded when I was there so it was nice. The music is pretty loud so it's hard to have a conversation. Someone stole all my cash out of my purse from the bar. I told the staff working and they screamed at me. Two giant men screaming at a woman! Horrible, dangerous place. My money was stolen out of my bag and when I told the manager, he proceeded to scream at me, call me names and told me I deserved to have that happen to me. He also made wild accusations that it was my friends who stole from me. It was completely inappropriate and frankly, very scary. As a woman, I do not recommend going here. This is our go-to spot in Soho. A couple of friends have had birthdays here. The best part about this place is ease of entry at the door... and the bartender Mitchell! Also the DJ who spins on Friday and Saturday is legit! All the 90's, pop and hip hop you love. One issue they have is the ventilation, because there are people who live above the bar they can't open the windows in the winter time and it can get ridiculously hot. Vig is a great place for a get together with friends or a venue for a special occasion. But only if you reserve the back room. The front room gets very crowded and uncomfortable. No one really dances at this bar although the music does try to get you moving. Vig is big on 80's and Top 40. If you have the back room reserved, a cocktail waitress comes by every so often and brings you your drinks so you don't have to go to the bar. Overall, we were very comfortable at Vig and it was very nice to hang around with Parsons alumni and the birthday girl. Interesting people flock to Vig but definitely not "hipsters" and thank God, because I can't stand "hipsters". I think I liked Vig because we were in the back room. I'm sure if I was subjected to the front, I wouldn't have enjoyed myself as much. People come to Vig just to have a drink and enjoy themselves. It's unpretentious. read more

Awesome drinks. Quiet atmosphere and the service was great. I think the bartender's name was Jimmy. He was super friendly and came up with really innovative drink combinations. Happy hour cocktails go for $9, margaritas are $7 and their beer goes for $4. They only have bottled beer - nothing on tap. read more
