I dropped in for an iced latte-- with an extra espresso shot- and caramel... and subdued the kid in tow with a sprinkled cookie... I forget that they make great coffee here... and the iced latte was no exception to that. It was perfect, slightly warm from the fresh espresso, and then cold from the ice. Came here for coffee but ended up ordering a full on breakfast because of how delicious the menu sounded! At first I was a little concerned with how large the menu was, but I decided to go with Mexican and it was a fine choice. My huevos rancheros were delicioso! Bright red chorizo, great chunky refried beans, and over easy eggs over two tortillas and some cheese, it really hit the spot. My partner ordered the blueberry buckwheat pancakes, which were fluffy and FULL of fresh blueberries. To start we got a peanut butter hot chocolate, which was really a treat. My only complaint is that the service was a bit slow and their doors (which are all around the dining area) were poorly insulated, so it was a bit chilly in there. Other than that, I sitll give this place 4 stars with how impressed I was with the food/ drink. I can't wait to be in the area again to try their Indian food! read more

Village Coffee has become a staple for myself and my co-worker. Every morning we stop in to get a cup of delicious, always hot, flavorful coffee that gives us the jolt we need to make it through the morning. I'm a vegan and she's playing around with being vegetarian. They always have plenty of plant based alternatives both in terms of their coffee choices (i.e. almond milk, soy etc.) and their cuisine. They have a number of vegan pastries and I highly recommend the local made loaf sitting on top of the counter. We once had the pleasure of dining in for lunch and had a truly wonderful meal. I got the veggie burger wrap with a side salad. The veggie burger in the wrap was full of SO MANY SPICES and was JERSEY FRESH. I wanted the call the head chef over, slap him across the face, and scold him for ruining veggie burgers for me from now on. You just can't get that type of flavor from things that are packaged and frozen. I'm wish I had taken a picture but the meal was just too good, there was no time for pause before I finished it. Also, it is worth noting that the service here is truly what one would expect from a friendly local business. We often have chats with the owner and many of the employees and there is never any rush. In the days of corporate coffee, it is hard to find a place that is so warm and genuine. I will continue to make this my morning stop and implore you to do the same. Service in this place SUCKS! There is no indication of what to do once you walk in. No hostess so it's "see if you can find a seat". I asked one of they guys that was in the seating area how long the wait was he looked at me like a dear in the headlights and then responded "I don't know, depends on how long people take". I was blown away by such an ignorant comment. Then we walked all the way back to the front of the place and waited till one of the cooks told the other guy in the front that there were seats available. Orange juice was served with ice, brown sugar was served in a cup, syrup was in a Smuckers package, carrots in the salad were stale and the salad looked and tasted old. The eggs benedict were good and the so were the French toast. The coffee was above average. I won't return to this place. I don't recommend it to ANYONE. read more

Good service, very reasonable prices, and yummy food. Menu had a great variety of sandwiches, grilled paninis, omelets, salads, coffee drinks, and chai teas. Three of us ordered a salad, a panini, and an omelet. Good flavors, fast service. Coffees were not too sweet. Chais were equally good. I love Maplewood Village Coffee Shop! It's my go to for a pick me up. Jamaican Me Crazy on ice is heavenly. The biscotti, cookies and muffins are great. I personally like that they are not wrapped in cellophane. We go there when we want a fresh lighter lunch. My friend had eggs Benedict that I was envious of. She practically liked the plate. Instead she used my naan. I had delicious chicken Tikka Masala. It was in an amazing sauce and paired with great basmatti rice and salad. They hace a great variety of foods and flavors. Ordered the French Toast with Turkey bacon and eggs and a "Bono" bowl for delivery, received burnt inedible nasty nasty Turkey bacon, eggs that tasted spoiled, French toast with grill debris and weird grill taste and old strawberries on top! Interesting brunch with an Indian flair. The home fries is curry flavored - not exactly matching my eggs Benedict. It was full almost the whole we were there. I like the fact that we were able to open the doors though the view of the parking lot wasn't exactly exciting. I think thy need to scrub everything there more often. I have to say that Maplewood is SUPER CUTE. Went to see Gone Girl and right before, my husband and decided to stop in here for a coffee and dessert. Wasn't impressed with my hot chocolate. Tasted like it was out of a package. The cookie I got was a sandwich cookie with raspberry filling, chocolate dipped. The cookie was tasty and authentic. The typical Italian bakery style sandwich cookie. I wish this place advertised more as an Indian restaurant than a coffee house. Kinda random as a pairing. I went in around lunch time and had their chicken club panini. With bacon, lettuce, and tomato, it really did a great job of filling me up. The chicken was deliciously cooked and seasoned. The toasted coconut iced coffee was pretty good. The coconut taste creeps up on you and it's a pleasant surprise. The service was great, friendly staff. This is a good spot for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. They do get really packed though so sometimes it takes a little bit longer to get attended to. The food comes out at an orderly time though! Their home fries are really good and are seasoned well. I could eat a whole entire platter & not just a side of this! Also, they have almond milk & soy milk for the drinks, so vegans & the lactose intolerant can enjoy them too. Nine out of ten times the coffee was burnt... The pastries are often stale, the pancakes are average. I've been going to the Village Coffee shop for almost 20 years now and it doesn't disappoint. Fabulous coffee and tea, especially the Great Lemongrass Chai Tea. I love going for brunch. Their selection of omelettes are superb, my favorite comes with Brie cheese, zucchini and mushroom. And the breakfast potatoes are made with turmeric which I crave! I've been going here for a few years now and it has always been ok. Not bad but not amazing. Last week, however, I was served a salad with a big fat rubber band buried in it. Imagine my shock when I picked it up with my fork and would've absentmindedly ate it if I hadn't been paying attention! This leads me to wonder what else slips by in the kitchen. Did they even wash the greens?? The waitress brought me out a new salad, but at that point I lost my appetite. Coffee? Pastries? Breakfast sandwiches? EVERYBODY does that, so raving about how special, or cool, or whatever about this place is just hot air. I have been here virtually at least twice month for over a year...mostly on a hurry to catch the train and because the location is so convenient. I just went in there last week and was once again reminded of why I took hiatus from stopping by just to forget why and run in there again. In summary (and maybe this is what mattters in a business for me): staff is grumpy, stone faced, slow, rude, have an attitude.... and if you don't kiss their ass they treat you even worse. It seems they think that scruffy clothes, unshaved chins and greasy hair is something cool. I think it is about :taking it for granted since the business is good due to location... lastly...coffee ain't that special and the overheated milk and rushed lattes don't make for a very enjoyable $3.75 drink. This place was okay, but nothing spectacular. Three of us went for a late brunch and we left fed, but that's about it. Service was less than stellar and we seemed to confuse the waiter by not ordering by number. There was nothing wrong with anything we ate, but there was nothing great either and some little things were disappointing. The "mixed greens" my boyfriend ordered as a side was really just a pile of spinach, the home fries I had were pretty bland, that kind of thing. After the high reviews made my other Yelpers, I'd hoped for more. Doubt I'd return. read more
