The people who work here are wonderful-- sincere and friendly. But evaluated on its own terms the food here is nowhere near the top of the list of Summit options in pizzeria-type cusine. For example, I like a pizza crust with a combination of crispiness and elasticity. It should not resemble cardboard. The alfredo vodka sauce was a disappointment as well. I've had food from here several times and really feel you can do much better without going very far at all. It's OK, but this style of food has a high standard to live up to in NJ. Village trattoria is a great choice in Summit. Went there with my friend for dinner and we found the portions to be HUGE! We had to take the rest at home. The staff was super friendly and kind. The pizza here is all great, though sadly the best one (the Kohl's pizza) is only sparingly available as they do not always have fresh pesto. If you want to try something different, I highly recommend the Greek Salad pizza. It's cold, and like the name implies it is literally a Greek salad dumped on top of a cooked pizza dough. Everything that we've had has been superb, including several sandwiches and various sides. The staff is always friendly and fast despite the huge lines that can build up during the weekend rush. Even during those busy times it is never more than 25 minutes between calling and the pizza being ready for pickup. We always order takeout, as the restaurant is pretty small and generally jam-packed with people. It's decorated sparingly and you can definitely tell that you are in an old-school pizza parlor. If you're with the kids and okay with a high-energy spot, this could be great for you, but I wouldn't recommend it for date night! They do have some small metal tables and chairs outside that would be nice in the summer. read more

I have had pizza, sandwiches and entrees here several times. While the staff was friendly, the food just never cut it in a state that has some of the best pizza and quick Italian food you can get. There are a number of options for pizza right in Summit that I would go to first. The pizza is similar in style to the kind I've had while traveling in the South or the Midwest, as opposed to the kind you'd expect to get in NYC or the Union/Bergen/Essex county area. The sandwiches and pasta have been similarly "just OK." This place is very popular, so obviously the style is liked by some, although I think the friendliness of the staff plays a role in its popularity. read more

Best place ever. I get the shrimp Caesar salad at least a couple times a week especially in the summer and it's so good and you can't beat the price. The Village Trattoria is awesome! The pizza is delicious-- the "Grandma" slice, VT's version of the Margarita, is incredible. "The Trat", as my friends and I called it in high school, is always packed, but they run efficiently and the line moves quickly. Despite being the most popular pizza joint in town, their prices continue to be reasonable. The owner is behind the counter every day and is a very nice man. The only downside is that they don't deliver-- but it's worth the trek to pickup. read more

This is our go-to place when we don't have any food in the house and don't feel like going out to eat. The food is fantastic and the prices are reasonable. When my boyfirend and I go, I usually get the chicken salad with mozzarella in a balsamic dressing. It's a huge salad and loaded with chicken and fresh mozz. Comes with yummy bread too so I can get my carb fix. My boyfriend gets 2 - 3 slices of pizza (plain, chicken parm or sicilian) AND he gets a chicken parm sandwich. He likes to eat. I try to watch my figure which is why I opt for the salad, but I usually always take a bite of his pizza and hot sandwich ( much to his dismay) and they are heavenly. All this for under $20. By far, the best salad you will get in summit. Their house dressing is insanely delicious. It's hard to pick up a salad when you can see their amazing display of pizza slices. Pizza strictly average. Service terrible. I had an infant in the car, and requested to place an order in advance as there was no parking and I was going to park right in front of the store and jump in. Despite explaining the situation, the guy flatly refused saying "it only takes a second". Naturally, it took a good 10 minutes for a couple slices of plain cheese, and I returned to a crying baby. Best pizza in Summit, most definitely. And head and shoulders above the rest, not even close. Can get crowded and the kids can be a pain, but the pies are perfect. The crust is just the right thickness and with the right amount of crunchy, and the toppings are fresh and abundant, the pie variety broad. They reheat slices in the oven, not on some toaster belt. Once this place opened, I stopped bothering with Doria'[s and Randazzo (was never a fan of the recently closed "Summit Brick Oven" operation). Try it, you'll love it. read more

Best pizza in Summit. Forget about going anywhere else in a 10 mile radius because you're just not going to get any better than this. The guys and girls behind the counter are cool and ready to rock when it gets busy. Your head might spin when you see all the varieties of pizza available there. Solid casual Italian/pizza spot in Summit... the hot sandwiches are very reasonably priced, and the chicken parm pizza is very good. Their pizza overall isn't dynamite, but it's better than average and the service is quick and friendly and you can't beat their prices in Summit.
