This is for the coffee/service/ambiance. I've gone there twice the last 2 weeks to work around 11am and drink some coffee. Both times have been super nice, good quiet outdoor patio to work from, good wifi and solid house coffee. The girls behind the counter are really friendly and quick. Oh man the vibes here are perfect, it's so cute and lots of outdoor seating. But the coffee... I'm sorry but it's so gross. I went a few different times to make sure it wasn't a one-off, but every time it was equally terrible. I'm not sure if it's the espresso, the syrup, or the brand of oat milk, but something about it is so bad. A note to staff, please try an iced oat milk latte of some sort from Vinaka and then get one almost anywhere else to see the difference. What do people go to cafes for? Ambiance? Good food/drink? Well I couldn't even get to the food and drink part because of how noisy the staff are. It seems that the customers got the memo and kept their voices down amongst themselves but the staff are so overly loud when gossipping that it kills the ambiance and even the soothing music starts to sound like added noise pollution over their loud voices that drown everything out including the audio I have playing in my headphones. I came around 6:30pm, and there was no wait. There were plenty of seats open too. I got a smoothie, and it was quick and good. My total cost was around $6. Honestly such a lovely area! My friend and I studied here all day on Monday and hung out outside majority of the time. The WiFi was good, service and drinks were amazing. The staff were friendly as well. There's limited seating, but we found that many people came and go as the day went on. A lot of visitors were also tourists or people that went to the beach and were stopping by for a drink while they shop. Super chill, cute, well shaded area for a second story patio. This review goes out for not being served... I love a local business and that they are. But at 7pm (not busy time for coffee) i waited in line for 10 solid minutes while I waited for one cashier to handle a group of 5. I understand that can be a lot, especially when people do not know what they want to order or have a lot of modifications, but there were two employees "shooting the sh*t" with someone at the opposite side of the coffee bar. I tried to get their attention, even sitting at a bar stool in front of them, but the "comradery" continued. The first time we visited we had the, affogato it was good, I'd never had one before. Today a pretty good turkey and avacado sandwich. I frequent this local business at least weekly (oftentimes more). It's easy to find good coffee or good breakfast, but typically not easy to find both - Vinaka has both! My favorite drink is the caramel latte with oat milk but I also really enjoy their Mexican Mocha and smoothie (the smoothie is amazing). For breakfast, they have great build your own breakfast sandwiches that you can get on toast, a bagel or croissant (I recommend the bagel). They also have excellent lunch sandwiches - my personal favorite is the turkey avocado. The ingredients all seem high quality and they are generous with them. Pro tip- you can call ahead and place your order on the phone so it's ready when you arrive! They also have a rewards system so you can accumulate points and get $$ off your next order. The service can be spotty (some employees are nice but others are just plain rude) which is a bummer but I still return for the food and coffee. I have been here many times over the years, mostly to hang out and nightcap with friends. I've never really cared for the espresso drinks, blended or hot(the espresso flavor gets lost). Today I stopped in for a simple double shot, and it fit the bill nicely for me. It was smooth, with a perfect crema, although it lacked much flavor. While sitting at the bar I noticed why the drinks don't impress me- it's all Kirkland products, bottled syrups etc. Meaning, I can just go to Costco and buy ingredients to replicate their drinks at home. I prefer house-made syrups and locally roasted beans when I go to coffee houses. At least this is a great place to hangout and catch up with friends. The vibe is so laid-back and cozy. I needed a few hours to get some work done and it was in the late afternoon so Vinaka Cafe did the job because they didn't close until 7pm. I ordered an iced White Out, which is espresso with their special shire chocolate powder and milk. I found a seat at a high table that faced outside which was nice to be able to glance at the rain, and I was right by a power strip so I could keep my laptop recharged. The drink was the perfect level of sweetness, coffee taste and kept me energized for all the work I had to do. Why I can't give it five stars: A completely wrong drink was made and usually I'll just take the drink but it was very different so when I told the barista what I originally ordered she gave me a lot of attitude. The only seat that was available (which is great because that means it's popular and busy) was right in front of a giant mirror so it felt weird when I looked up (why is their a mirror in a coffee shop)? Last but not least, I think the bathroom key should be hung by the register, so customers don't have to keep asking to use it. Really happy we stopped here! We walk often in Carlsbad village, so its nice to have great coffee options like this one. We got a white out iced latte, and the flavor of the coffee was great. All of the workers were working really hard on a busy Saturday morning, but it was hard for the 4 of them to keep up with the line.
