Whenever I arrive, I'm always greeted by the owner. I've been going there for years. The waitresses have remained the same for many years which is nice. The bus boys are superb, they always greet you and ask you what you would like to drink. You couldn't ask for better service. They have quite the diverse menu. They have breakfast, lunch soup, Mexican, and Chinese food. As I said very diverse. I've tried many things there, but for some reason I fall into the same thing as of recent it is an egg salad sandwich with bacon on it on sourdough it comes with two sides. I opted for the salad And onion rings both are delicious. I highly recommend trying their house Italian dressing they make it there and it is delicious. The ambience is wonderful it is a small diner, and the owners are very nice always saying hi as you walk in it is always clean whether you dine inside or out there is counters that you can sit out or booths and outside they have umbrellas should you decide to sit outside you can sit in the sunshine or under an umbrella I had a burger there and it was delicious and I've had their soup and it was delicious. I can't think of anything that I've had there that I didn't like. Also, there is parking and they will validate you for parking. I don't remember how long that they validate you for but it's more than enough time to relax and have a nice meal. read more

Ordered the big Western, which was a substantial amount of food! 3 eggs, ham, choose fruit over potatoes, and stack of pancakes. The fruit was very fresh! Ordered the patty melt, which also comes with a choice if two sides, which most places is just one. Got onion rings and fruit. The hamburger patty was made there, tons of caramelize onions and melty cheese! It was alot of food at a great price. Im sitting here eating ham, eggs, hash browns, & a full stack of pancakes...WOW!!! Incredibly delicious! The pancakes are so fluffy and remind me of Dupar's. My friend is having the fried chicken & waffles and it is fantastic! The fresh squeezed OJ is amazing too. We are in a major feeding frenzy bcz it 's such top quality food & cooking. Looking for a place close to my house for a casual lunch while I check my emails. Being COVID-cautious, I needed a restaurant with outdoor seating. VIP cafe fit the bill. There is validated parking in the lot behind the restaurant. (Convenient!) No problem getting a table on the patio at 1 PM on a weekday. Water and a menu were brought immediately. And my server was by just a couple of minutes after. I decided to go with the Funtime Omelet ($14). It comes with toast and hash browns or fries. I went with sweet potato fries ($1.50). One of the best omelets ever!!! And way more food than I could eat in one sitting. Service was excellent. Only downside is that the patio is facing Ventura Blvd. So it can be a bit noisy. Definitely will be back for a repeat of the Funtime Omelet. read more

Been coming here for years. Dog friendly patio. Love the staff. Lots of regulars come dine here. They have mimosa and a few other brunch cocktails. Typical diner place but a few stand out items. Try their specials. Bbq pulled pork ( secret it's a lot like El Paso Bbq.... If u grew up in the valley, you know) I also enjoy the potstickers. I've been going to VIPs Coffee Shop since I moved to Tarzana around 1996. When Paul, the current owner, took over, positive changes were made. This is a neighborhood coffee shop, a family business. There are many regular customers. Paul tries to greet and connect with every one. The booths are comfy and intimate. And if the weather's good, you can eat outdoors on the patio under a big umbrella. Breakfast is great and I love the waiters service. There's a booth with a plaque memorializing coach John wooden. I used to see him there before he passed. yes, VIPs is a neighborhood treasure. It was our first time here and I had the chicken and waffles. My wife had the Monte Cristo. The chicken was cooked to absolute perfection. The inside was juicy and the skin was super crispy it was perfect to say the least. The waffle had a hint of sweetness but wasn't overbearing and was cooked perfectly as well. When I first walked in my greet was very welcoming but once we sat down and got our menus and I ordered my drink and when he came back with it he had a bit of an attitude. Then a women came up to us to order and once we got the food, it was very bland and had no flavor. My pancakes had a very interesting taste and my father ordered, eggs scrambled but instead got sunny side up, and he also ordered steak which had absolutely no taste whatsoever. but other than that some people there were nice but not all. We always come as a group of 10 and are always welcomed and seated very quickly. The food comes out very quickly with very efficient waitresses. On warm days we eat on the friendly patio. The menu is big enough and even includes some Chinese dishes on weekdays. I recommend this eatery. read more

We love going to this place for breakfast, the owner is super nice and very attentive! The food is good and the prices are right! However, today I have to admit I was grossed out and wanted to leave as soon as possible. I am not sure if the guy attending at the register was the son but you could tell he had some type of cold? Maybe allergies? Don't know but the fact that he was picking his nose, wiping it with his hands and then touching the menus and helping the servers without washing or at least using hand sanitizer was gross. Even when he would sneeze into his sleeve he would then wipe the sleeve with his other hand and not wash/disinfect his hands. I feel bad about this post and I am sure this happens often at every restaurant BUT the fact that I was eating at the bar and watching this was not a pleasant time. I just wanted to leave fast. I give the food/service 4 stars but the 1 star is for the lack of care for customers being exposed to someone sick. We've been coming here for years whenever we are having breakfast/brunch out. Their pancakes are fluffy and huge and their bacon super crisp. They have that old-school coffee shop vibe which is terrific with booths and counters and an outdoor patio. The service is always friendly and attentive. John Wooden was a regular here for many years and we remember saying hi to him once while he sat in his usual booth. There is ample parking in the back and the restaurant validates. The VIP'S cafe is quaint and fun. An old styled diner right in the middle of Tarzana. I love places like this. It seems like it's family run. It has regular customers as well as Cedar Sanai medical employees. They have both indoor and patio seating. I had a nice leisurely breakfast at lunch time. My meal was served quickly and as I had requested it. Service is quick and polite. My server followed up on my meal twice. Prices are fair. They validate your parking ticket or there is metered parking on the street. This place really is a hidden gem. read more

As a fellow diner employee I have to try support my "people" who start everyone's day the right way. This café is the perfect option it out first parking in a very diverse menu if you only got 15 bucks you're still going to get something to eat and something to drink and still have money left over to tip or you gonna find that in LA? They are cool enough to validate parking for one and a half hours which I thought was awesome. You're going to get your food in less than 10 minutes so be ready because you've got time to enjoy LOL. The outdoor seating is amazing it almost double the size of the entire restaurant so there's plenty of room for everyone. I had to have a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a side of tartar and let me tell you I loved it so much I wish I would've ordered two! I know this place has been here for a long time but this is the first time I've ever eaten here. It's really 3.5 star place for me but I'll give them the round up since the staff are all nice. I tried the pork chop and eggs. For me it was about average but they salted (with some of their type of seasoning) the pork so much that it was just too salty for my taste. My personal feeling is they should have the common sense that known that pork is naturally Salty and should use other types of seasoning. In addition the pork chops were not that tender. The waitress was very nice but I did not feel like returning it. The patio setting is nice but it's probably very hot in the afternoon. The bottom line is the staff is friendly but the food was not up to my liking. read more
