    AVOCADO TOAST CHILAQUILES BREAKFAST BURRITO
    Emily L.

Good spot for brunch -- not too crowded, service was decent, and food was overall good. I had the avocado toast; they used guacamole on top, which tasted fresh and flavorful. I just wish they used spring mix instead of sliced romaine, but it was still enjoyable. The egg was cooked more like over hard when I was expecting over easy, though. Their home fries were very tasty -- definitely a highlight! Prices are reasonable, and their pico de gallo and guacamole are both very fresh. Parking is a challenge -- only street parking is available, and there aren't many spots since it's on Virgil Ave. Also, I was pretty shocked that they don't have restrooms.

Location is at the North end of LA there is a small parking lot and parking stalls out front. Depending on the time and day the parking can be a little challenging. I was heading to a morning doctors appoint and coming in hot, coming from Riverside and wanted a breakfast burrito so as always, I went to Yelp for help! Virgil Café came up for my best breakfast burrito in town! I was able to go online ordering a Famous Breakfast Burrito to go which was very easy to order. It came with eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, salsa and cheese. When I arrived at the restaurant there was parking right in front and I walked up to this storefront business and was warmly greeted and said I was here for a to go order in which I discovered my order was all ready and hot. I saw a few inside seating tables and the ambiance was casual and clean. This burrito lived up to its name the "best"! It was big stuffed full and perfectly balanced between the meat, potatoes and eggs. Some places try to overload the potatoes to cut cost but not here. I highly recommend Virgil Café for your next breakfast burrito, if you want the best and famous! I will be back in LA for a couple of more doctor visits and will definitely pick up a Famous Breakfast Burrito again.

Second day in a row. Ladies at the front are the nicest and we were greeted nicely. Food is delicious and they gave us smoothie to try. Nice clean space, and wait time for food is low. Will be back soon

The food here was wonderful! The service also great, the server was very friendly. I appreciated it extra because I was (sob) not with my sibling. The ambiance also very clean and nice. I'm not sure if they had a bathroom but if they did I couldn't find it and was too cowardly to ask as I was all on my lonesome. Alas alas. I walked here from an LACC parking lot so I'm not sure about the parking here.

A brilliant NY philosopher once said "Life is not about finding yourself but finding a good food and coffee." - Carl N. :D Virgil Cafe is a modest corner breakfast cafe that offers traditional Mexican cuisine with bold flavors as well American cuisine delights with comforting classics such as burgers, fries and crispy sweet waffles. They are located on Virgil and Melrose ave in Virgil Village in East Hollywood. Its interior and exterior layout design was plain but the culmination of this review doesn't end here. They offer salubrious food and fresh juices on their menu. We came here as first time customers. We perused their menu; I decided to have a Veggie Omelet and a Cubano espresso. I liked the food was fresh and warm which is a perfect match for my espresso drink. Staff were affable, warm and professional. Service was on point. Atmosphere was quite relaxing. Prices were fair. Free rear parking lot and street public parking are available. Collectively, this is a great breakfast cafe spot in this hipster neighborhood. Overall, I enjoyed their food and coffee as well as their service. I will definitely try their juices.

CHILAQUILES BREAKFAST BURRITO, FRENCH TOAST COMBO, SIDE OF HASHBROWN

This is my second time coming here. I really like their breakfast burritos. I got the red chilaquiles burrito. Not to spicy, but still vsey delicious and big. My friend got the french toast combo, she enjoyed her french toast and everything that came with it. My one complaint is that you have to pay to add meat to the chilaquiles burrito so i might not get that one as often, when i come back even though it was really good! The people working here are nice and welcoming. It wasn't to busy, which was nice cause they answered all our questions and didn't have to feel rushed. There is street parking in front and theres a little parking lot next to the building. They do have a couple of small table you can sit at outside, but it is kind of a busy street so we sat inside. It is a somewhat small space, but plenty of tables. The space isnt really decorated much so not really a place you would go for aesthetic. You are definitely coming for the food as it should be. I can see this place getting way more popular and eventually needing to expand or find a bigger location once it does. Definitely thinking we have found our after work breakfast spot.

Perfect mom and pop spot for a traditional breakfast. Food was amazing. Service was outstanding. Good atmosphere to start the morning routine! This is a sleeper!

Chilaquiles rojos with chorizo, CHILAQUILES with green sauce, and a torta

Food was incredible, servings were large! My friends and I went on the weekends at about 11 Aam And it was easy to find a seat. I felt it was expensive at first when I was ordering, but the serving justified it. We all liked our food!

    Not many here. Missing out

Almost" perfect. Had a chicken pesto sandwich that had great flavor, balance ingredients, and nice soft foccacia bread. The salad also had a nice balance of ingredients. Why not five stars? Could have been just a tad more pesto sauce, and the chicken (although tasty) was a little skimpy on portion size. Otherwise, a nice lunch experience.

If you're ever going to sqirl and don't want to wait in the long line go across the street and get yourself an even better (and even a bit cheaper) breakfast at Virgil cafe. It's super lowkey (for now) but everything I've had it spot on and much more elevated than you would anticipate from this little cafe. The breakfast burrito has your standard ingredients but it's done absolutely right. I love the whole potatoes inside. Also, the chilaquiles with steak... holy s*** Last but not least I'm also into their espresso brown sugar latte. They also have a bunch of fresh made juices and smoothies that I've yet to try but they're on my list! Great new addition to the area.

The beautiful and delicious quesadilla plate. Such rich flavor from the salsas too!
    David B.

Everything I've eaten here has been top notch - the burritos, chilaquiles, quesadillas, clearly made with care, always beautifully presented. The juices and coffee-based drinks are also fresh and delicious. I aim on working my way through the whole menu when I saw the table next to me last time get the tortas. SIncere and friendly family run place with a great neighborhood vibe. I really wish you were open on Wednesdays! Not sure why anyone would wait around for Sqirl when Virgil Cafe knocks it out of the park.

Not sure where to start. Food, service, fresh juices, or the parking lot!? Everything was amazing I got the pancake combo and matcha latte 10/10 And it isn't crowded. I think I'll keep this little gem to myself

I loved my farmers market margarita, and seed smoke mezcal cocktail, they were not overly boozy, but had been made with an even blend of flavor and dressed with complimentary ingredients. As we were all men, it was pretty stereotypical that we ordered almost exclusively protein dishes lol. Each meat on the table was tender, juicy, and very savory. It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

WORDS TO DESCRIBE SAMPA: Elevated dining, speakeasy vibes, quality food and service PARKING: Parking can be difficult since it is close to the Arts District, you may want to park in the Public Parking Lot areas FOOD: Lechon fried rice: This dish was exquisite! I loved all of the colors in the rice, which include the fried pork belly, the golden egg yolks, and the pigments of the atchara (atchara: pickled vegetables such as papaya, scallions, and carrots). When I took my first bite of the fried rice, the blend of all of them together was scrumptious! Yes order this dish! 5/5 STEAKSILOG: I would order just the steak alone! The skirt steak was savory, juicy, and mouthwatering! Yummy! 4.5/5 Kare Kare Tamales: This dish was delicious! Kare Kare is one of my favorite Filipino dishes, so when I saw it paired with tamales I was immediately intrigued. The presentation was beautiful. The flavor was rich and unique. The oxtail was tender and the peanut sauce paired well with the savoriness. 4/5 CHICKEN AND PANDAN WAFFLE: This plate was their take on chicken and waffles. The pandan flavor was there, but I wish the waffle was thick, instead it had a crispy thin cookie like texture. 3.5/5 DRINKS: Bartender has skills! Beauty in the booze! I appreciated the artistry in creating our beverages. I loved the details of the flowers and layers of color. Cheers! All in all I had a great time eating at Sampa! I loved the food and service! I have been here a few times for dinner but this was first time for brunch. I made a reservation, was asked to confirmed reservation 3x, noted it was celebrating a birthday and gave no preference on seating. I arrived on time, but one of my group was parking. There were a few people milling around and I was greeted with "checking in?" No hello, no welcome, no mention of celebrating and told to let them know when entire party arrived. (This is becoming more common to be seated along with a $25 per person fee if I canceled less than 24hrs. I know restaurants are struggling but come on!) I watched as 'walk-ins' were given priority tables and when our party was complete, she was squeezing in a 3rd chair to a small cafe table right by the pass through door. No asking our preference. When she returned to seat us, I said "you're not putting us at that small table are you?" Her response - "yes...unless you want to sit inside." How was that not a conversation first? A professional would have said "I apologize, where would you prefer to sit? I see you made a reservation, are celebrating an event and we had some unexpected guests for seating options." Perhaps she was having a bad day, or was still reeling from a prior customer interaction but she was NOT up to the standards I equate with Manuela.
