I was visiting my son in NYC with a good friend of mine. Before we got on our trains home Sunday, we searched for an East Village brunch place. Virginia's had 4.4 stars, but we decided to try it. The food was amazing. I got the burger and it was the most tender burger I've ever had. Memorable experience. My son got the crab eggs benedict - It was just one, not the typical two, but he said it was enough food. My friend got the fried chicken sandwich, and it looked perfect. Two extra crispy, small breasts. My friend gave it a 10 out of 10 rating. He appreciated the hot sauce and the creamy sauce where he could dip it to counteract the other. We shared an order of the aioli fries, which came in an awkward metal cone. We eventually dumped them out on a side plate for easier sharing. My only recommendation to Virginia's is to serve the food on larger plates. read more

It was a great list to East Village when this neighborhood bistro closed in 2021; luckily it has found a new space and reopened in the former home of Root and Bone, a Southern style restaurant that still has a location in Florida. A blessing to this new space is additional seatings and a steakhouse menu with steak frites, clams casino, and of course a burger. Another surprise is the kitchen is headed by chef Justin Lee, who closed Fat Choy a vegan fast casual joint last year. Perhaps he could incorporate his smashes cucumbers into the burger or make a cacio e pepe rice roll? ;) read more

Went here with a group of people I unfortunately call my friends. The place is small with a short bar and and a dining area. Well decorated warm atmosphere. We ordered cocktails, which were excellent. I ordered the burger which was unbelievable. Probably a 9.5 out of 10. Buttery, juicy, perfectly cooked, with amazing caramelized onion flavor. I put it in the top three I've ever had (along with Au Cheval and Emmy Squared/Emily). Truly unreal flavor. Hopefully the word doesn't get out because this place could blow up. The fries on the side were unreal also. I tried my friend Alex's steak which was one of the better steaks I've ever had. My friends Alex and George are pretty average but the food here was not! This place is a cash grab, they charged us $20 for diet cokes it was absolutely absurd, we ordered the shrimp cocktail which was $18 only for them to give us four tiny shrimp which was INSANE for the price. The burger was also extremely fatty definitely an overhyped restaurant, you can find better food and ambiance at many other places in the city. read more

New York has some amazing burger options, this is definitely one of my top burgers in New York, there were four of us and everyone ordered the burger, everyone was in heaven. I added the bacon, the bun was perfect held together, the cheese just melted perfectly, and the flavors, you can feel the love in this burger. Wow. I was very disappointed. I planned a special meal for my husband's birthday and didn't want to make a big deal about how the food literally made me gag. The place was empty when we arrived and that should have been my sign! The shrimp was still partially frozen and a consistency that was mealy. I tasted two oysters that had gone bad, so I immediately pretended to eat the rest of the oysters so my husband wouldn't notice. The chips and dip were obviously a scam. Why charge this much if you are going to give us the remnants of the bottom of a bag of chips! The redeeming items were the cocktails and the burger, which was pretty good, but not nearly the best in the city as proclaimed here. I thank the server for comping the oysters. read more

Hands down this is the best burger in town. I highly recommend not making any modifications to the burger, it's really delicious as is. Their passion fruit margarita by far was my favorite cocktail drink. The fries are a little pricey for the amount you get, but they were super crispy and worth it. The manager on duty last night was demeaning and inhospitable. I came to have food and was told to stand by the bar and given a menu. I would have waited, but the manager had ushered me over to the bar and said he would seat me shortly. The bartender directed me to order and said I would be seated when something opened up. I waited and when my food came out, the manager looked at me with disgust and asked why I would order food before I was seated. I tried to explain to him, but he took my food and slammed it on a table and said "well HERE'S YOUR TABLE" then said I would have to leave in 30 minutes. Overall bad experience. read more

I went with a group of friends for a reunion dinner and their service was fantastic. So excited to see Virginia's back in business! This is an amazing neighborhood spot with a burger that can hang with the greats, without the insane price tag. They are back with new appetizers and cocktails, and the vibes continue to be on point (always have a great playlist going). Highly recommend the carrot salad and hamachi to start, and you can't come and not get the burger and fries. The service here can't be beat - we've come to celebrate on many occasions (engagement, birthdays, anniversaries, NYE), and we were so grateful to be greeted by name with champagne when we came back last night! Visiting from San Diego and sort of stumbled on this place. It was pretty crowded and we had no reservation. Seated us, party of two, right away. Very friendly and attentive staff. A bit noisy inside. We asked if we could finish our drinks outside after dinner and they were very accommodating. Even comping us a free dessert for freeing up an inside table. Wow. Can't say enough about this gem of a restaurant. My wife and I commented this morning that it is rare -- and has been a long time -- since we could say that EVERY dish we tried (and we ordered most of the menu items with the couple we went with) were PHENOMENAL. I didn't give 5 stars simply because i asked for a medium but got a well done steak. I will say for it being well done it was easy to cut and was still tender but the medium would've gave that 5. We decided to go to brunch here because the place is around the corner from us. When our order was being taken, I requested to have regular hollandaise on my eggs Benedict because I can't eat dill bc I'm about to get a colonoscopy and my doctor told me not to eat any fresh herbs. They told me they cannot make regular hollandaise because everything is pre-batched and "hollandaise takes a long time to make". To make Hollandaise is a very quick process. When we requested Mezcal instead of Tequila for our spicy margaritas, they said they can't change it because it was pre-batched. If you are spending $26 on eggs Benedict (of which I only got 1 egg on top of 1 crab cake no sides other than wilted spinach underneath, like no potatoes etc) and $18 on a margarita, you should be able to customize based on your needs (I have an intolerance to tequila ). Then we proceeded to wait quite a while for our food, and I asked the bartender about it. He said sorry we have a 12 top. And then I responded will we get our next round of drinks comped, and he said he will ask the manager. He never got back to me and when I was about to sign the bill, I asked did you ever ask the manager, and he said that the manager said no. So there was no follow up from his end in terms of relaying this info to us. Then I asked to speak to the manager and the manager said we don't give free drinks. And I said it's not about free drinks, its about making a concession for bad service. And I told him good luck when your place closes down after a year for your short sighted ness. There are too many good restaurants in the city to go somewhere again where you are treated like this. Also on top of it, the bartender was nice but had no social skills. He asked why I can't eat dill and I said because I'm getting a colonoscopy and can't eat fresh herbs and he said "Nice!". Part of being a bartender is making good drinks AND having social skills. I obviously won't be coming back here again. I suggest you don't either. read more
