Sat a long time before any waiter could take our order. Had to call someone's attention to at least give us water. Waited 30 minutes for our drinks. Ordered appetizer - truffle fries and burrata. Appetizers were served first before the drinks. The fries came before the salad. Our dinner (steaks) came out almost immediately after our appetizer. Didnt get to enjoy the appetizers. Highly recommend! I made reservations here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and we were not disappointed! This is a somewhat hidden gem in downtown Danville. The cocktail menu includes innovative concoctions with clever names. And the food was delicious! We ordered the Mediterranean chicken, along with plates to share including the mac n cheese sampler (for the kids, of course), the grilled shrimp and the brussels sprouts--all of which were fantastic. Our server was very knowledgeable and very attentive. The only improvement that I would recommend is that when I made the reservation, I indicated that we were celebrating a birthday, and it would have been nice if they acknowledged the occasion in some way. I had high hopes for this restaurant, as it is in a great location and has very good ambience, and I enjoyed the previous restaurant that was in the same location. Unfortunately, it did disappoint. The food portions were extremely small - my salmon entree was the width of about two or three pencils. I have never had a cut of salmon that small, especially at that price point. The veggies were good. The quinoa was bland. The spinach and cheese empanada appetizer was tasty but the side sauce was like pink mayonnaise. Yuk. If it was supposed to have cayenne or other peppers mixed in, it did not. The drinks were weak, very little alcohol but lots of mixers and sweeteners. On the upside, service was solid. The bartender was working very hard as were the servers. Though a bit inexperienced, they were attentive, friendly, eager to please, and careful with the dietary restrictions at our table. I will probably give the restaurant another chance at some point, a few months from now, see if they worked the kinks out. read more

Found this place by chance and what a great find! From the moment we started to walk up a very nice young man greeted us and welcomed us in. We sat at the Bar and had great friendly service, drinks and food. The staff was very friendly. Moderately priced and well worth the experience. A classic, warm atmosphere....loved it. We will definitely go back. Wish we lived closer ( we're about 45 minutes away) but we will be back! read more

My husband and I came here a couple of weeks ago and were looking forward to trying this restaurant out. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the food and overall experience. I don't know if it was that particular night or what but we were seated over by the bar and kitchen and it seemed the bartender was very stressed as she was the only one working the bar. We constantly heard her and the staff discussing the complications of the drinks ordered and the it felt chaotic. Sitting next to the kitchen you can also see the screen with all the tables awaiting their meals with flashing red screen. Between that and the stressed out bar staff, It took away from the relaxing dinner we were hoping to have. On top of that we had to send back our steak twice once because it was overcooked and the second time it was practically not cooked. Even the waiter didn't understand how they could mess up the dish twice. We ended up canceling our order. Not once did a manager come over to apologize for the long wait or meal issues. We saw him right by us and he seemed to not care. Needless to say we won't be back. Save your money. read more

Disappointed. We waited one hour for our drinks, and we were told that it was still going to be more of a wait as there was only 1 bartender who was backed up. However, if we wanted to order wine, it would come quicker. So we ordered wine. The lobster mac & cheese was bland. The calamari was chewy and under seasoned. The food we ordered was cold. Our appetizer dishes sat on our table for at least 30 minutes before being picked up. We asked for bread. The server told us they only have bread for a fee. We will not return. This was stunningly bad. Let's start with the quality of the food. They tout their mac n cheese trio as a specialty. We ordered it as an appetizer for the group (six of us). The first order came out COLD. We sent it back for a re-do. It returned warm BUT not hot. If I can pick up the mini cast iron skillet with my bare hands then it can't possibly be hot out of the oven. As for the taste meh - seriously that's being nice. Safeway's mac n cheese at the hot bar is better. My wife had the salmon - she said it was "ok". I had the fried chicken sandwich - horrible. The patty looked and tasted more like the chopped and compressed chicken parts I use to get at McDonald's for the kids (those infamous nuggets). This was no chicken breast. As for the flavors surrounding it - pretty bad. There were other issues with some of the orders too but I'm going to move on to the service. It was horrible. After finishing my first gin & tonic I ordered a second and it took 30 minutes. Then one of our couple friends, my wife, and I got served first and the other couple got served about 25 minutes later - not an exaggeration. There are so many better options in downtown Danville as well as at the new city center in San Ramon - I will be staying away from this place for good. read more

I came with my partner and we were not happy with the experience. The drinks took over 30 min to come out even though the restaurant only had three tables sat at that point. Drinks were fine (we tried four of their signature drinks and they were fairly mediocre). When I asked a waiter where the bathroom was located he told me, "it's obviously right there" and walked away. For food we had the burrata and the Mac and cheese flight. The burrata was good but the toast that came with it was practically inedible because of how hard it was. All THREE of the macs were so bad, resembling more of a puddle of sauce with some noodles rather than comfort food I was hoping for. All in all, long waits and bad food. read more

A touch of many different types of flavors from the Venison sliders, Brussel sprouts, Empanadas, Burrada and Trio of Mac and Cheese. Delicious food and cocktails, definitely worth a try! Hubs and I went here on a Thursday night since we didn't feel like cooking. He tried two different 'gambler' cocktails, the first was a tequila and the second one with gin. He loved them both! I had the whiskey sour, which was delicious. Food was also very tasty -- lime pad Thai, jerk chicken skewers, and crispy cauliflower. We'll definitely come back. This was my first time visiting this new location that had just opened and I have to say it was an amazing experience. Right from the start we were treated with great respect and our table was ready and very clean. My friend and I went out for a girl's night. My friend and I were debating on another restaurant and this one. I am so glad we came to Virtue and Vice. We had an excellent waiter Salvador and Maya. The food was terrific and I really enjoyed the venue of this restaurant. I can't wait for next month. I am definitely coming back. The restaurant is where the Pheasant and the Pear use to be.
