Came by for lunch the other day and it was a decent experience. Parking was available in the private strip mall lot or on the surface lot next door. The interior of the restaurant is showing it's age. The condition of the dining room is sloppily painted and panels are falling off... The walls are also dirty from most likely soup stains... Opted for the bun bo hue and it was tasty. The broth was fragrant and full flavored. The noodles were perfectly al dente and the bowl came with a couple pieces of crab balls. There were also a couple pieces of beef shank as well as a pork trotter. This was topped off with some raw onions. Dining is available both indoors or outdoors. They apparently take cash or card. ~$22/head after tax and tip for lunch.
Vit Đồng Quê is a Vietnamese restaurant that specializes in duck dishes and other foods from Vietnam's central regions. I came here with my friend, my girlfriend, and her family, a party of 10, and we had a fantastic experience from start to finish. FOOD (10/10): We started with bánh bèo (shrimp over rice cake with sauce) to share as an appetizer, and it was so delicious. The rice cake was perfectly soft, and the fish sauce was sweet, light, and not overpowering. For my main dish, I had bún măng vịt (vermicelli noodle soup with giblets, duck meat, and bamboo shoots), and it was easily in my top two best bún măng vịt I have ever had. The broth was rich and flavorful, the duck meat was juicy and tender, and the ginger fish sauce for dipping added a fresh, fragrant kick that paired perfectly with the meat. Others in our group ordered dishes like mì vịt tiềm (egg noodle soup with duck and Chinese herbs). This dish has Chinese origins but became popular in Vietnam. I did not try it myself, but it looked amazing. SERVICE (10/10): The service here was excellent. The owner and staff were warm, attentive, and accommodating. My friend arrived late, and the staff allowed me to order his dish ahead of time. At one point, they accidentally brought it out too early. When they realized he would not arrive for another 10 minutes, they took the dish back and prepared a fresh, hot one for him when he got there. That extra thoughtfulness really stood out. AMBIANCE (8/10): The ambiance is simple, like a typical Asian restaurant, but clean and spacious. There was plenty of room for us to put a few tables together for our large group, which made dining as a party of 10 comfortable and easy. Overall, the food and service were both fantastic. If you love authentic Vietnamese flavors, especially duck dishes, I highly recommend Vit Đồng Quê. I will definitely be back the next time I am in San Jose.
4/5: The ca phe sua da is pretty good. 3/5: Gỏi Vịt: The duck salad doesn't work for me. It was featured in the Chronicle's list of "Top salads in the Bay Area." It's poached duck. There is just not much flavor here, even after adding the dressing and dunking it into the sauce. It's also cross-cut butchered, with a thousand small bones that get in the way of eating it. 3/5: Porridge with gizzards is OK.
Everything was cooked perfectly, especially the duck. The service was great. The lady helped us order the perfect items. I will definitely be back.
TL;DR: - tight interior with fast service and delicious and juicy duck. Be forewarned, the teas are not complimentary nor worth the hassle, as they are just mediocre tea bags. parking: - this is located next door to Grand Century. the parking lot in front of the store is small but you could always park at Grand Century and walk over. wait time: - zero wait time. ambiance: - nothing impressive, but you're only here for the food anyways! service: - service is fast but it was definitely obvious that the female waiter was constantly trying to upsell us. food: [Worth It] - Banh Beo Chen: this came out warm and perfectly chewy. - Banh Bot Loc: another table please! yum! super chewy. - Goi Vit (duck salad): the duck was very juicy and tender! [Not Worth It] - tea: these are not free and they are not worth the extra dollar per cup. - chao (porridge): this came out under-seasoned and probably the worse porridge I've ever had. I would not recommend.
This spot specializes in duck and they sure do a great job! I always get the Bun Mang Vit (vermicelli with duck meat, giblets, and bamboo shoots) and Goi Vit (duck salad)---both are consistently delicious! Their menu has a bunch of different combination options as well as different sizes for their duck salad. The sauce that comes with the salad is delicious---they know what they're doing with the nuoc cham! The interior is very similar to many of the other Vietnamese restaurants in San Jose. The aunties and uncles make you feel right at home. Service is efficient. The restaurant is located in a plaza with parking available.
It's sooooo good. Huge portions and the duck is so tender, you'll wonder how they did it! Price is just right and if you eat in the afternoon, the door faces away from the sun so it's nice and cool inside without having to run AC. Take a moment to decide if you want more duck or veggies. The prices are about the same, but personally, I like more veggies. They're so fresh! You get a dipping fish sauce as well as a salad dressing one. Make sure you enjoy every last drop :) Btw, I tipped 15% and should've tipped more for service and food. There was a dude sitting here that was insufferably annoying. I regret not giving them more.
Definitely one of the best go to in little Saigon. Their duck salad is legendary! We come here often when we want some comfort food.
TL;DR: food is good and inexpensive, and the aunties and uncles who run this spot will help you out! I got curious about this place when hunting for a spot to try because I'd never seen a Vietnamese restaurant serve duck like this before. Chicken rice places are fairly common so I was intrigued, and the fact that many reviewers mentioned their delicious banh beo sealed the deal. The restaurant is located in one of the random corners near the giant plaza filled with Vietnamese restaurants and shops, so it was nice to stuff my face then go walk around to stave off food coma. The interior is pretty basic, and apart from the table seating, don't expect much else. The menu looks enormous but there are many combinations of similar things all listed so going through it is a little trying. When ordering, I started with banh beo, then as I was struggling through ordering the duck, the auntie running the restaurant just told me exactly what she was going to put in for me and that it would be good for two people. Why argue with an expert? English isn't their strong suit but pointing at the menu and gesturing works well. Most of the other customers seemed to be Vietnamese so they definitely have a steady clientele. Food: Banh beo: I love these little cups of rice cake! They were topped with the usual dried shrimp and some pork lard and were delicious with the fish sauce. Duck salad: what I came here for! This arrived looking like a mountain of food, there's an enormous pile of cabbage and herbs under the duck, and you pour this sauce over everything. I didn't bother tossing it, so we just attacked the salad which was very refreshing, loved the herbs and sauce, and the duck wasn't very gamey. It looked enormous but because there's a good amount of vegetables, it's not that hard to finish. Noodle soups: we got one with rice noodles and one with vermicelli. I believe they used the soup that they cooked the duck in for this so the soup itself was a little gamey, along with some of the giblets and other things they added to the soup. I thought this was fine but not a stand out item.
So many duck dishes! That's what we came here for on a Sunday evening. Half duck with rice on the side, and duck salad which came with soup. They serve some good vietnamese hainan style duck here, lots of meat, lots of flavor... and also lots of leftovers. Though we ordered for takeout, there was plenty of indoor seating in a clean and inviting space, and all of the employees were friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside the restaurant. To add to our positive experience, our order was ready in just 5-8 minutes, so we could head home and enjoy our delicious dinner without delay.
First time to try this Viet restaurant located at the heart of Little Saigon. Restaurant specialized in duck and chicken soup and combo dishes. I wasn't even aware there such a thing for Vietnamese restaurants. At any rate , we tried the combo duck dish and soup and the chicken soup. And for appetizers we tried the shrimp dish. Appetizers was Awesome, first time to have that dish and it really great . Dried crunch shrimp on top of sticky pillowy rice cake . We Finished all 12 Little plates. The duck combo dish came with eggs noddle soup and duck salad. Same with the chicken. It was seasoned well , broth is clean , both to salty and greasy. It was one of the best Vietnamese soup we've ever had. A must try restaurant when in Little Saigon area.

If you're craving Vietnamese-style duck, this is a great choice! A friend recommended this place to me in ESSJ. I've never had duck made in this style before but it was really tasty. I ordered B2 to go and was pleasantly surprised to receive a giant heaping order of garlic vermicelli noodles, cooked duck and duck broth with giblets. It also came with a side of homemade fish sauce. All of this was ~$15. There was so much food that ended up eating this over a course of 2 meals. The owner is super friendly as well! Nice little restaurant in SJ. It's in the small plaza on the outskirt of Grand Century. The restaurant itself gives a very homey feeling. The owners are nice people. 4/5 stars for the food! Ordered the banh beo, which was good. I felt like each was very small though. Maybe I'm just used to bigger portions. The consistency of the banh beo was just right. We also got the Mien Vit. I've seen this place for years when I came around the corner to eat at Tasty Pot or Green Lotus and recently found out it's a restaurant dedicated to *steamed / boiled* duck (and chicken), Hanian-style, and I must say it is Good. If you are expecting roast duck, this is not the place. Compared to the dedicated Hanian restaurant on Santa Clara St, this place is way more flavorful and less salty. The broth of the noodle dish I had was really light but hearty in flavor. The staff is very friendly and the food came out quick. Would go again. read more

While there isn't much decor in this place but it's a nice clean local family owned restaurant. Their specialities are duck and chicken. I personally preferred duck over chicken as it's more flavorful. The chef also take pride in decorating the dishes unlike most Vietnamese restaurants. On the same token, unlike others, they charge $1 per cup of tea which they don't tell you up front and just asked if you prefer tea or water (feels like a trap). One of my biggest pet peeves is they overuse bleach to clean their dishes and utensils and I could definitely taste it which ruined the taste of the entrees. Restaurant owners should be mindful of this as it's harmful to human to ingest bleach. I will probably not return for this reason. read more

It was a rainy day so me and my friends decided to pull into a random plaza for a quick celebration lunch. Pro: + tasty fresh duck & porridge Con: - no waiting area but there is a waitlist (manager was upset that we arrived with 7 people without calling in to make a reservation. We tried to explain that we randomly found this place). - mid way into our meal, the manager confirmed that she accepted Venmo. However, when we were ready to pay, she said Cash Only. Vit means duck. If you're craving duck, this is the place for it. They offer everything from duck over rice to duck porridge to duck salad and we ordered all of this. The duck over rice was my favorite. The rice was flavored as if it had been boiled in chicken stock. The duck was unlike the regular Peking duck I am used to having. It seemed much healthier and tastier with the house sauce it came with. The duck porridge was my least favorite. It was watered down and not flavorful. Strong ginger flavor as you can see fresh ginger slices on top as garnish. It also has giblets mixed in so if you're not a fan of duck organs, do not order this. Service is close to none here. Got the B2, which is the duck salad w/ vermicelli noodles. Found it to be just ok. Duck didnt have much flavor. You have to dip it in sauce. The portion for it is really good though. Itll easily last 2 meals. I enjoyed the vermicelli soup more, but it was nothing special. Also got Banh Nam as an appetizer. Found it to be solid. Overall, they do have quite a few things that you wont find at your run of the mill viet restaurant, but their main draw, the duck dish, just really wasnt my cup of tea at all. This restaurant has the best Vietnamese duck dishes I've ever had. I decided to take my mom here after a friend had recommended this place for good duck dishes. She did warn me about some of the elderly workers there trying to scam customers, and we did in fact get scammed (hence the 4 stars instead of 5 stars). We only ordered one bowl of noodles, but the elderly worker insisted that we ordered 2 and refused to take back the extra bowl of noodles she brought out. The duck here was so good that my mom decided to just pay for the 2 noodles even though we only ordered 1. All in all, the food here is good, but be firm in announcing exactly what you ordered. read more

as someone who is viet, it's really hard to find good authentic traditional viet food so this place is so amazing. the food taste super fresh and yummy and i love how they offer food not typically offered at other viet restaurants. service is super fast and they give complimentary tea. the interior isn't really modern but its overall pretty clean. would def come back! read more

Delicious duck dishes that really hit the spot! We came here on a weekday night and there was a big party, so the store was packed. It's a small store but it's often fully filled. We got the vermicelli and duck plates, one smaller and one bigger (the bgger order included more salad). We didn't expect the bigger order to be DOUBLE the smaller order. We basically got an entire duck and more! The soup and noodles were great. I wish there was more bamboo but this meal left us stuffed and satisfied. The service was a bit rushed but I didn't really mind it. I think the portions are great for the price too! read more

I would give this place more stars if I could for their Chao Ga (porridge with chicken). It was my second time here and both times I was sick with a cold, so glad that they gave me extra ginger and herb to help with the remedy. The staff here are very friendly. The Banh beo was also tasty. Besides the Chao Ga, my favorite is their chicken Goi Ga (cabbage salad) dipped into their spicy, thick fish sauce blended with ginger and garlic. I haven't tried their duck, which is what they're mainly known for based on their name, but I hope to next time. Would recommend coming here (even if you're not sick)! read more
First review of 2020 goes to this restaurant! We were looking for Vietnamese food for dinner and wasn't in the mood for pho so we gave this place a try. The Banh Beo was perfectly made and they use deep fried shrimp! The fish sauce also had a good level of spice since the chili peppers were already put in for you. Overall would highly recommend and get this again! My husband got the bun bo hue which he found to be only alright. But I enjoyed it! I felt like it was a solid bowl of noodles with delicious meat toppings. I got the chicken porridge with shredded chicken salad. I LOVED it! If I'm ever feeling under the weather, I would definitely come here for the porridge! It had a perfect proportion of ginger and tasted just like what my mom would make. It made me feel like I was at home. The chicken dipping sauce was also amazing! This place seems to be a mom and pop restaurant. My Vietnamese mom is the toughest food critic I know, and I decided to give this place a shot due to the raving reviews....let's see if it lives up to its hype. Firstly, it's in the same plaza as Tasty Pot; if you went into the same parking structure that Grand Century is at, you've gone too far. Now, let's get into the GRUB review: Hot Tea: they legit sliced ginger and put it in a mug filled with hot water - most subtle yet bougie green tea I've ever had at an authentic vietnamese restaurant. Thanks for getting my metabolism and immune system right. Appetizer: Banh Beo (BOMB), the dough was so light and the toppings flavorful. Entrees: I ordered the mien (clear vermicelli) and was pleasantly surprised when it came with a full plate of duck on the side. I like my noodles soft so I loved this. That ginger nuoc mam/fish sauce used to dip the duck and bamboo shoots in reminds me of home. LEGIT. My Mom ordered the mi vit/braised duck with egg noodles and she actually LIKED IT! This is a woman that gives a C rating to restaurants when she's feeling generous. This bowl came with not one but TWO giant duck legs. Obviously they don't skimp on the meat here. Side dish was some pickled radish topped with hoisin sauce..super simple but complemented the soup well. Wow incredible food. We kept saying this is good at least 20 times. Bahn Beo is good; other review said it was the best they had. I would agree. Best I have had. Very tender, and thin. The other places make them small and thick but these are thinner and hence much more tender. 5/5 Banana wrapped rice flour version of bahn beo.. this is even better. These melt in your mouth because they are warm. Best I have ever had. Definitely order these. Duck soup with vermicelli: excellent duck based broth. Not fatty at all. Broth is not too salty. Chicken soup w/vermicelli: looks like a fresh free range chicken. Has real chicken flavor. No fat in the chicken broth. Chicken tender and not blanched of flavor which is what you would expect from chicken used to make soup. Chicken soup was more popular w/the group than duck. Chicken w/noodles is probably one of the best we had. Very crowded and popular. Prices reasonabla all ~10-13$ for fresh higher quality meat/soup dishes. read more

I came here at my mom's suggestion and it was sooo good! My mom recommended to order a full order of the goi vit with two bowls of chao. Supposedly it's cheaper and you get more food than ordering their set combos. Goi vit is a Vietnamese duck salad or coleslaw that is dressed with a ginger sweet fish sauce and chao is porridge or congee. The fish sauce provided was very flavorful! My mom and I were unable to finish the goi vit, so we packed it to go and it was still very good the next day! The banh beo was okay, but not the best. I came here with my Vietnamese girlfriend and had her order everything for me. Ended up getting a rice porridge, bowl of noodles, the duck salad, and banh beo. I really enjoyed everything because there was little to no seasoning in the porridge and duck. I usually find many places add too much salt or sugar and I like things more simple and plain to be on the healthier side. The porridge had a nice flowery after taste that was very delicious. A great place for duck lover like me where you can find some Vietnamese authentic dishes and tastes. I usually order duck salad and hotpot duck soup with fermented tofu. The duck meat is so tender and the sauce (nuoc mam) to mix with salad is sweet but savory. There's different type of ginger fish sauce for dipping the duck meat as well. The hotpot came with egg noodle, choy sum (white Chinese flowering cabbage), taro on the side. There's fermented tofu sauce for dipping the duck meat that's slowly cooked in the hotpot. The restaurant also serves variety of cuisine from central region in Vietnam since the owner is originally from there. I would try more dishes on my next visit. read more
Yummm!! I drive all the way to SJ just to eat here!! We have Vietnamese food in oakland, but nothing compares to Vietnamese food in San Jose. I should really move! I just love Oakland too much to move. I expected the basic service for a Vietnamese restaurant, but I was wrong. The service is really good. They are very nice and helpful. My friend was trying to pronounce her dish and the man started to teach her more things in Vietnamese. It was entertaining! ***Cha gio- okay. Better than most places because it has more meat than vegetables inside. ***Banh bot loc- mehh. It is too dense and has too much tapioca. ***Banh beo- THE BEST I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME!!! Most places make the rice cakes too thick, but here it's perfect and has the perfect amount of ground shrimp. They even put fried pork skin... that tops it off! ***Bun bo hue- pretty good. Very flavorful unlike most places. They give a lot of meat, fish cake, and pork blood. Love that they aren't stingy with the portion. ***Bun mang vit- pretty good. I'm not a fan of bamboo shoot, but the flavor is great here. I tried a little bit of my friends soup. I think this is their specialty at the restaurant. ***Com ga roti- very good. The chicken has a lot of flavor. The rice is very different, but they go together very well! I'd order this again. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant!! I'm always impressed by the value of this v popular Vietnamese dish in general (yenno w/ the yummy noodle dish AND a meaty salad).. and am happy to see that Vit Dong Que isn't pulling some Bay Area bs and pricing it way above what it usually costs The GOOD: - Clean establishment and good, smiley service - Pretty good Bun Mang Vit! I think the broth could use a bit more depth, but maybe that's because I'm used to a lil' MSG LOL. The duck salad was solid, but my duck portion had way too much fatty skin on it. Perhaps choose thinner ducks in the future, lol? - The banh bot loc appetizer ( 9 little plates w/ a white gelatinous film and some crushed shrimp on top) was yummy, and I appreciated how they warmed up each of the ceramic dishes up... mmm. The MEH: - It's located in a very tight plaza... You WILL have trouble finding parking here if you go on a popular day, so I suggest going and parking in the Grand Century lot next door. Comfortable food. We really enjoyed having lunch here. The porridge and noodle soup are very favorable. Duck salad allows you to enjoy both the meat tenderness and the crispy vegetables. The meat portion is very impressive. We feel very content after the meal. Nothing is oily, no msg, only the good taste of food. Definitely will come back. read more
