Food first: I ordered the fried chicken which is locally sourced with Union mac and cheese.. The fried chicken was okay, it was juicy but the flavor wasn't spectacular or anything. The mac and cheese was just okay even with the addition of the broccoli and salty bacon. The place was packed and service was friendly. Prices are reasonable, especially the special they were having that night (which I didn't have), a sandwich and beer for $10! Now for the 4 room historic hotel... The building is historic and some of the interior decor is and isn't. The biggest turn off for me at this historic hotel was the flat screen tv. I know, I know, you don't have to watch it, but it just takes away from the historic feel. The bedding was very warm, especially because it was cold at night and I loved all the pillows. The shower was nice and hot, which can sometimes be a problem in historic hotels, but not this one! The carpets really really could use a cleaning! My room had a nice balcony and view. Yeah, bring your 4 legged fur friend and dine in the backyard where it's the best place to be after sun set. Get water melon salad with pickled bean sprouts. Don't share with anyone, it's the best. Gnocchi is super fresh and tender. Fried chicken with union mac is perfect dish to share if you find yourself tummy space challenged. Desserts are wonderful. The peach cobbler is sweet, warm and tasty. Very fresh. You make new friends with fellow diners when you are out with your cute puppy. Just simply can't stop getting people coming by to pet your companion, next thing you know the evening is upon us. No one rushed us. Service was perfect. A nice doggie bag for your pet, crunch fried chicken is best next day as a special treat for a certain 4 legged. Wine is incredibly reasonable here. You can get a glass for $6, local bier on tap too. Absolutely adorable setting for the history-loving traveler. Housed in an 1880 inn, the restaurant staff are supremely charming. They make you feel right at home and anticipate your needs. A great place, delicious food and amazing service! My husband and I went there for the first time for our Valentine's Day dinner. They had a special Valentine's Day menu and let me tell you it was delicious! So so delicious everything was and the steak was cooked perfectly (a perfect medium temperature). Absolutely wonderful place. We consider this our home away from home spot! The food (thank you Eric) is amazing, and all the staff are fantastic!!! The patio is so inviting, and even on a slightly cool day, they have throw blankets that you can use, or there are heaters that will keep you toasty warm. Inside is rustic and just as homey. We have never been disappointed, and we have been going there for 6 years. Was on a country Sunday drive and decided to stop in for dinner. I'm very glad I did. The bar side was very cozy with a fireplace that was going strong and lights strung throughout, loved it. Bartender was extremely friendly and engaging. Ordered the salmon toast as an app, very tasty and great way to start. Ordered the cheeseburger with salad as a main dish. We recently spent a night on the recommendation of my wife's cousin. She was right...it was fun. I apologize for not recalling all of the staffs' names but Eric and the woman who very promptly and professionally helped solve a minor plumbing issue late in the evening both stood out. It's an old house to be sure, but one that was very comfortable and inviting. Possibly,the best part was filling out the breakfast memo...delicious Mimosas and a breakfast hash that was full of tasty vegetables and enough bacon to make it even better. Two items in the interest of full disclosure - All rooms are up and down a rather steep staircase with very low railing. Be careful. The rooms do not have ceiling fans and so I'd assume can be quite warm on warm evenings. There are ceiling vents in the rooms but I do not know how the heating and cooling is provided. Our server, Casi I believe, was truly exceptional and on point with her service and explanation of the menu and specials. We ordered three appetizers, salmon bread, chicken poppers, Carnitas french fries. All we perfectly made and super tasty. My wife ordered the A New York steak with potatoes and greens cooked perfectly to order. If this establishment was in downtown Sutter Creek it would put other high and establishments to shame. Honestly for being in Volcano I would not of expected a type of service nor the food to be at the quality it was. This is by far our favorite place to eat in the Amador area. Everything is made in house- including their AMAZING pickles!!! All of the offerings are a nice balance of quality vegetables paired with feel-good comfort foods - but made in a thoughtful and not-too-heavy way! Portions are the perfect size. In my opinion their pricing could be higher for the quality that they serve. The staff is always incredibly friendly and accommodating. We brought our Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy who was teething and they were nice enough to bring out a dog bowl full of ice along with a dog bowl full of water when they brought out water for us! How nice is that?! The atmosphere is the best- cozy but not too small. The patio is beautiful- and it's very clean. All the tables had fresh pretty carnations and it's just a happy place to be. Shout out to my new friend Claudia for bringing me out two orders of pickles because she found out i am pregnant and was really craving them . If you are in need of a mental health break, and need a place to stay that is relatively low risk from Covid, I'd highly recommend the Volcano Union Inn. It's a four room inn with little to no contact. They take all precautions, and the rooms are super clean. You must wear a mask when in the building, but not in your room. The restaurant is open for dining outside for lunch and dinner on weekends. There is a ton to do outside, and the area is gorgeous. Our room is pictured below and has a large front porch attached. The Limon or Terra Cotta rooms have the porch, soaking tubs and king beds. We stayed for three nights, and it was amazing. Rates are reasonable. Chef Eric, was very friendly, and was very accommodating. He even personally delivered our meals and checked us in when we arrived. The staff brought any meals we requested to our room, as a Covid precaution. They served healthy breakfasts, which are included in price. Everything is made from scratch, including the granola, juice and pastries. The food is divine. When we arrived there was a rose and two chocolate covered strawberries in our room for Valentine's Day. Very sweet. I highly recommend this quaint get away!!!! read more

My husband & I came for a little getaway weekend & Volcano was the perfect place! Luckily we stayed at the Inn, which was convenient. The place is absolutely beautiful and cozy. We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and servers. We felt right at home! We got a couple appetizers, which did not disappoint!!! My favorite was the mushroom bruschetta, which was creamy & full of flavor. My husband got the pan seared salmon over risotto & he absolutely loved it! He said it was the best Salmon! We have been to the Volcano Inn & Pub before and really enjoyed it. We took some friends back and it was awful from start to finish. They had the reservation wrong so we were stuck at a small table inside when we requested patio. You had to go to the counter to order our food and drinks. The fish and chips were mostly deep fried batter and French fries. The fish was very scarce. We had to go to the bar again to get our bill to pay. This took ten minutes for them to figure out what order was ours. Awful experience. Beautiful area and venue. It's such a shame! Unfortunately we won't be back and we are local. read more

So far the duck wings were a tad over cooked a bit carded and dry. Not sure if that's what they are suppose to taste like, our first time ordering them but definitely won't be ordering them again if this is what to be expected. The garlic fries where good and brought over warm but could of used some Parmesan cheese on them to bring the flavor together. Okay my review was a 3 till the mac n cheese and friend chicken came out. The MAC I'd flavorful and rich in cheese. The fried chicken is perfect and has a crisp taste and seasoned well. Volcano has always been a nice escape from the city, and now with the updated restaurant at the Union Inn our visits get a whole lot tastier. We were able to reserve a big table outside for Saturday dinner, had a wonderful time, and then went back for the Sunday Brunch. Some of our favorite menu items: Baby Back Ribs, Fried Chicken, Grilled Skirt Steak, and they had a special Chinese Chicken Salad that was quite refreshing. And for dessert we pretty much had everything on the menu, and they are ALL delicious. My favorite is the Chocolate Pot of Creme.
