Absolutely adorable setting for the history-loving traveler. Housed in an 1880 inn, the restaurant staff are supremely charming. They make you feel right at home and anticipate your needs. Most of the time it is a great experience. On a couple rare occasions there has been an extremely rude server. She pushed us out to stand in a hall to wait for a table. She didn't even offer the bar. Manager Adam was so professional and welcoming! We stayed in the Mocha room. Private and quiet. They have plenty of snacks, DVDs and books all available to you right outside your rooms. Dinner was good. Buffet breakfast was delicious and morning staff very sweet. Will return for sure! read more

This has long been a favorite of ours but this past winter we weren't experiencing their normal excellence. Well I can tell you, they are back and better than ever!! My boyfriend and I drove 2 hours to check out Black Chasm Cavern, but unfortunately the tours were sold out. Our trip didn't go to waste when we decided to grab something to eat before heading back home and found Volcano Union Inn + Pub. Staff were very friendly and attentive, the ambiance is pleasantly great and everything we ordered (Citrus beet salad, Mushroom Bruschetta, Union Burger and Seared Salmon) tasted so good!!!! A great place, delicious food and amazing service! My husband and I went there for the first time for our Valentine's Day dinner. They had a special Valentine's Day menu and let me tell you it was delicious! So so delicious everything was and the steak was cooked perfectly (a perfect medium temperature). Absolutely wonderful place. We consider this our home away from home spot! The food (thank you Eric) is amazing, and all the staff are fantastic!!! The patio is so inviting, and even on a slightly cool day, they have throw blankets that you can use, or there are heaters that will keep you toasty warm. Inside is rustic and just as homey. We have never been disappointed, and we have been going there for 6 years. Two requests if you ever get around to them again...the Fried Duck wing appetizer (my husband LOVES these and he doesn't even like duck), and the Union Fries (a picture of them is still on the wall inside the Union!). Was on a country Sunday drive and decided to stop in for dinner. I'm very glad I did. The bar side was very cozy with a fireplace that was going strong and lights strung throughout, loved it. Bartender was extremely friendly and engaging. Ordered the salmon toast as an app, very tasty and great way to start. Ordered the cheeseburger with salad as a main dish. Burger was cooked perfectly and was huge! I took most of the salad and half the burger home. Couldn't order dessert as there was no room left in my stomach! Honestly surprised and glad we found this place. It was spur of the moment, we need a place to make a stop at to eat before we continue our road trip and every one in our party left satisfied with the meal! We recently spent a night on the recommendation of my wife's cousin. She was right...it was fun. I apologize for not recalling all of the staffs' names but Eric and the woman who very promptly and professionally helped solve a minor plumbing issue late in the evening both stood out. It's an old house to be sure, but one that was very comfortable and inviting. Possibly,the best part was filling out the breakfast memo...delicious Mimosas and a breakfast hash that was full of tasty vegetables and enough bacon to make it even better. Two items in the interest of full disclosure - All rooms are up and down a rather steep staircase with very low railing. Be careful. The rooms do not have ceiling fans and so I'd assume can be quite warm on warm evenings. There are ceiling vents in the rooms but I do not know how the heating and cooling is provided. This place was hands down amazing... 1st time ever going through the town of volcano, which now I love. My wife and I won a GC to the union pub & inn so we decide to do a date night here. Everything from the establishment to the food was no disappointment. The atmosphere was cozy and embracing. Lovey bar and dining area with a very comforting vibe. Our server, Casi I believe, was truly exceptional and on point with her service and explanation of the menu and specials. We ordered three appetizers, salmon bread, chicken poppers, Carnitas french fries. All we perfectly made and super tasty. My wife ordered the A New York steak with potatoes and greens cooked perfectly to order. If this establishment was in downtown Sutter Creek it would put other high and establishments to shame. Honestly for being in Volcano I would not of expected a type of service nor the food to be at the quality it was. I was suggest this place to anybody that was looking for a date night and to ver outside their normal go to restaurant. I spoke with the manager Rose and let her know how overly happy my wife and I were that we went to the volcano pub and inn. Well I have to say, what a great place to dine in the hidden hills of Amador County. For those locals, I know what your thinking...."where's the duck wings?". I know I know, but the fact remains, the chef is on top of the delicious morsels that are bestowed upon you coupled with the fabulous service by our waitress Caitlin. This is by far our favorite place to eat in the Amador area. Everything is made in house- including their AMAZING pickles!!! All of the offerings are a nice balance of quality vegetables paired with feel-good comfort foods - but made in a thoughtful and not-too-heavy way! Portions are the perfect size. In my opinion their pricing could be higher for the quality that they serve. The staff is always incredibly friendly and accommodating. We brought our Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy who was teething and they were nice enough to bring out a dog bowl full of ice along with a dog bowl full of water when they brought out water for us! How nice is that?! The atmosphere is the best- cozy but not too small. The patio is beautiful- and it's very clean. All the tables had fresh pretty carnations and it's just a happy place to be. Shout out to my new friend Claudia for bringing me out two orders of pickles because she found out i am pregnant and was really craving them . Wasn't our first time here and most definitely won't be our last. Every time it's been the same exceptional quality of food and service! Thanks y'all!! Ps. If you are in need of a mental health break, and need a place to stay that is relatively low risk from Covid, I'd highly recommend the Volcano Union Inn. It's a four room inn with little to no contact. They take all precautions, and the rooms are super clean. You must wear a mask when in the building, but not in your room. The restaurant is open for dining outside for lunch and dinner on weekends. There is a ton to do outside, and the area is gorgeous. Our room is pictured below and has a large front porch attached. The Limon or Terra Cotta rooms have the porch, soaking tubs and king beds. We stayed for three nights, and it was amazing. Rates are reasonable. Chef Eric, was very friendly, and was very accommodating. He even personally delivered our meals and checked us in when we arrived. The staff brought any meals we requested to our room, as a Covid precaution. They served healthy breakfasts, which are included in price. Everything is made from scratch, including the granola, juice and pastries. The food is divine. When we arrived there was a rose and two chocolate covered strawberries in our room for Valentine's Day. Very sweet. I highly recommend this quaint get away!!!! read more

My husband & I came for a little getaway weekend & Volcano was the perfect place! Luckily we stayed at the Inn, which was convenient. The place is absolutely beautiful and cozy. We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and servers. We felt right at home! We got a couple appetizers, which did not disappoint!!! My favorite was the mushroom bruschetta, which was creamy & full of flavor. My husband got the pan seared salmon over risotto & he absolutely loved it! He said it was the best Salmon! Volcano has always been a nice escape from the city, and now with the updated restaurant at the Union Inn our visits get a whole lot tastier. We were able to reserve a big table outside for Saturday dinner, had a wonderful time, and then went back for the Sunday Brunch. Some of our favorite menu items: Baby Back Ribs, Fried Chicken, Grilled Skirt Steak, and they had a special Chinese Chicken Salad that was quite refreshing. And for dessert we pretty much had everything on the menu, and they are ALL delicious. My favorite is the Chocolate Pot of Creme. A magical foodie find in blink-and-you'll-miss-it Volcano, CA (Gold Country) well worth the side trip! After reading about it in Sunset we packed up the Mini and decided to make it a long w'end in Gold Country/Sierra foothills and this was a target destination. Run by a hotelier/restauranteur couple who helped pioneer the area into a foodie destination by opening Taste in nearby Plymouth, CA, their second adventure was turning this old space into a combo pub & 4 room inn. Our first sitting was for brunch and it did not disappoint! Me and the good egg split the biscuits n gravy + homestyle potatoes...being from the south I know my way around a scratch biscuit and these gut bombs are A+. We liked it so much that after squeezing in a little hiking & spelunking at Black Chasm Cavern we high-tailed back for a late afternoon lunch consisting of lamb burger, tots w/strawberry ketchup plus root beer float & creme brûlée (thanks to free dessert with yelp check-in!). Everything was mouth-wateringly tasty except for the creme brûlée which was lumpy and just off. One of the best features here is the patio (there's also indoor dining) which has live music on Sun 4-6p. It left so much of an impression on us that we plan to come back and stay at the inn to get the full experience!
