The food is quite expensive but very delicious. I always go for the regular bone-in fried chicken. It is so crispy, juicy, and salty where the meat falls right off the bone. I have always had pleasant encounters with the cashiers and workers. They have been really nice and helpful. The inside is quite small with only a few chairs or tables. I always just take mine to go. Additionally, the parking lot can, at times, be difficult to leave depending on which direction you are going. Many times, people have not let me merge on to go up Waialae and I have had to wait a few cycles of lights in order to get through. The parking lot is also very tight and awkwardly shaped so be mindful of that if planning to park right there. read more

This review may be conflicting as the food is really good but the service is pretty bad. My aunty referred me to Vons as they just opened up down the street from me. The first time I ate there I had no complaints, I ordered on UberEats for pick up and the food was ready at the estimated time. Then the second time I used UberEats again for pickup and when I got there they said that they never received my order, yet I showed them the confirmation on my phone. They told me I would have to wait an additional 20 minutes after waiting 30 minutes from the time I ordered it on UberEats. I was upset because it is pretty pricey and I just didn't know how they could have missed the UberEats order as last time I had no problem. I went another time and thought maybe if I just call on the phone then they can't miss the order and it would be done in the 30 minutes it would take me to drive back into town. No I was wrong. I got there and they said they have not started my order and they just needed to fry the chicken. I waited another 20 minutes before I got my food and I was pretty upset. Waiting almost an hour for fried chicken and rice is kind of crazy and I gave them so many chances to try and I now don't think it is worth the wait for fried chicken. The spicy chicken does its job of giving me that spicy kick (my spice tolerance is not bad/middleish). I'm not a big fan of the shoyou chicken, but it wasn't bad. The first bite just threw me off, but I didn't mind as I continued eating. Now, the crispy garlic....was the best one in my opinion out of the three. Avoid Kaimuki Branch. Kaimuki branch is Horrible... Before Vons Chicken go to franchise, Pensacola branch was serving original Korean style seasoned chicken (Yang-nyum) same as served in Korea. When they opened Makaloa branch in Palama market, taste was as almost same as original.. cannot tell which one was better. Since I live nearby Kaimuki, I was so glad finally have nearby branch, so I ordered one..OMG.. I couldn't believe what they gave me! (Compare the difference in the picture) I had to go back to the store, wanted to talk to the manager or someone in charge showing the chicken I had, but there was no one.. even the kitchen workers looked at me weird didn't know what is wrong with the chicken. I could finally talk to someone on the phone, mentioning they are serving totally wrong recipe from the original. We'd only had their wings once, from the Pensacola location, and have been dying to go back. Then we discovered the Kaimuki location, which is much more convenient for us. It was as delicious as we remembered! A full order of wings was more than enough for two. While the garlic wings were delish, I think next time I'll go back for the original. Because we had to drive home (drooling all the while because of the incredible aroma!), the sauce had soaked in a little too much so the wings weren't as crispy as I like. But they were four-star, finger-licking good. Four star, you say? Then why a five star review? Well, it's for the young lady behind the counter (Grace, I think, was what her Korean name Yunli translated to). She greeted us with a smile and a cheery happy holidays. After we sat down to wait for our order (yeah, we should've ordered ahead, but we didn't plan well), a delivery guy on a moped came in wearing those large, square cooler backpacks. She told him the order wasn't ready yet. He was super annoyed and rude, but she did her best to be gracious. He paced around, mumbling and complaining under his breath, until the order was packed and ready. He took it without a word, put it into his cooler bag and stormed out, not realizing he'd left his cell phone on the counter. Now... the way he treated her, I wouldn't have been surprised if she just left it there. But she didn't. She ran after him and he got his phone back. Just had a great lunch of 10 pieces of Vons shoyu chicken. Even eating it 30 minutes after picking it up-- it was still crispy. Do not tie the plastic bag as you carry it--the steam will de-crisp the chicken! The lady (owner?) who took my order was so sweet and sincere of her love for the fried chicken. It was nice to be greeted that way. My only complaint-- the sauces are too sweet for my taste. Both the garlic and the Snow ( powdered cheese and onion) has a sweetness that overpowered the other flavors. Others might love it, but I like savory flavors.
