I've been back twice now, because the crispy fried chicken was just so good. I've had the Garlic fried chicken too, and the Kimchi fried rice and the cheddar fries - I can't get enough of this place! I stand by my earlier points - their boneless chicken is tough and woody, like so much chicken you get these days - it's not their fault but the suppliers right now. But all the bone-in chicken has been incredible! And the fries once you put their yummy seasonings in them (like the cheddar fries) are still pretty satisfying. Also, the staff there are so very nice - I went once with my baby after ordering takeout, and when I decided to dine-in instead, she whisked away my order to out it on a tray instead (I didn't ask), got everything ready for me, and even considerately turned down the music, worried about the baby sleeping. I ordered half order of the crunch chicken with 5 grain powder and another half order of the crispy fried chicken with the soy garlic sauce. I had a combination of wings and drumsticks. Chicken was fresh and juicy. The batter was light and crispy and I absolutely love the soy garlic sauce! Total for both items was about $36 so it's pretty reasonable considering it was for two people and we even had leftovers. I get a craving for Korean fried chicken and beer after watching K dramas and shows so I was super excited to see Vons also carries beer and soju. I love yuzu so I immediately picked up the yuza beer and got the Vienna lager as well. For the lunch special, you choose between fried or baked, then the flavor, style of chicken, and a side. I ordered the boneless crispy fried garlic and boneless crispy fried chicken with honey butter. For sides, I chose French fries and kimchi fried rice. Everything was really tasty but I preferred the honey butter fried chicken. The pickled radish helped balance the meal. The yuza beer was not my favorite but went well with the fried chicken. Overall, it was pretty good, but I thought that the butter taste was a bit too much, so I definitely would not be able to eat it alone without other things to balance the heaviness. The order of crispy was said to take 20 mins (which she said was longer than other flavors because it's double fried) but it came out no more crunchy than the other flavor we got. Fries were not good and not very flavorful. Ttekbokki had only 7 pieces of rice cake and the rest was heaping onions and fish cakes. So this is partially my fault. I didn't order any chicken, and I know that this is what Von's is known for...Korean Fried Chicken. I ordered the Japchae and Kimchi Fried Rice. Nearly $18 for a pint of rice and about the same for the Japchae, which I'd have been happy to pay if it was tasty. The rice was dry and the Japchae had white button mushrooms, not traditional shitake which changes up the flavor. The veggies in it were also very al dente. I'm Korean and have grown up with these two items in my life. Maybe this is the Americanized version? Not sure, but I won't be ordering it again. I WILL go back and try the chicken! I had high hopes as my crew was craving wings and we love Korean chicken. To start, we were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived around 11:30am on a Monday. This is my local Vons and I've been ordering from them since they opened! The quality of the fried chicken has consistently been good and all the flavors I've tried so far have been great! I have to admit I haven't tried all that many because the crispy fried chicken (garlic soy) is just so good. The lunch special is a great deal on weekdays if you like fried chicken and fries (you can choose to get steamed rice). It's also great that they take party tray orders for big get togethers!
