Wacky Wok has great takeout service and the process is quick, but the rest of the experience needs improvement. Located at 2805 Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, the pricing is now ridiculous for takeout Chinese. This change in price from lunch to dinner is just a ripoff, as you see a $5 to $7 change in price almost begging you not order. Steamed rice is now $2.95 and the Chicken with Broccoli is $16.95 and the Chicken Lo Mein is $13.95. My bill was $42.00 plus a $5.00 or nearly $50 for a one-person, takeout order with no beverage! I can go to an area restaurant with food far superior for the same price. My first visit to this establishment was May 23, 2025. It describes itself as a New York style Chinese. When I asked what was meant by New York style, the wait person waved her arms in a circle , smiled and said "bigger." my impression is the majority of their business is Takeaway. Indoor seating is for about 12 people and is casual decor. I dined in and enjoyed it. The kitchen is visible, and is certainly very high energy and high production. The menu has many choices, most of which will look familiar to anybody who does much Chinese dining. I had shrimp with lobster sauce and steamed rice. A very big portion, and nicely cooked shrimp. A den of thieves. Ordered on Door Dash, a Wacky Wok partner. Sent the order and noted three times the order of vegetable spring rolls. Called DD and they responded after two minutes that they couldn't change the order. Called Wacky Wok and they said the order was already out for delivery. Really! Within three minutes? Not crispy... raw. The shrimp on this thing was the only thing that was decent. And snap peas were good. Overall, tho, this dish was gross. And all I could smell when I opened the container was bamboo shoots. Yuck. Spring rolls - not good either... How can you mess up spring rolls? And at two pieces for five dollars... They need to do better. Barely crispy... And just filled with cabbage. And they give you sweet and sour sauce in packets. I had such a hankering for some good Chinese food today... So disappointed with this place! Food was nasty, no flavor. The beef for the Mongolian beef and beef lo main was spoiled. Smelled and tasted bad and had to throw it away. The fried rice with shrimp was flavorless. The shrimp was just thrown in there after and didn't pick up any flavor so it was bland. The main dishes didn't come with white rice and ALL of the other Chinese and Thai food places give you white rice with main dishes.
