Had to post another review after 3 recent visits based solely on the level of service received. The service from chelly has to be the WORSE service I have ever received from any restaurant. When I called in for take out and arrived she immediately had an attitude. I politely asked to instead eat my food in the restaurant since it was not very busy and she rolled her eyes and smacked her lips stating "next time you need to say that on the phone". As we sat down to eat she slammed some plates down for our food and when I replied "thank you" twice she turned her head and walked away. How RUDE!!! A polite gentleman Rolin was helping out and helped served us our drinks/refills etc. and he was extremely polite. This it the 3rd time i have been here only to be served by the disgruntled Chelly and her nasty attitude. I usually see the friendly owner on occasion during lunch time but haven't been able to catch him lately. Some one needs to let him know Chelly is awful and we will not visit if she is the only waitress working. read more

Friends have told me they drive across town just to eat at the Wacky Wok and it's easy to understand why. Great food, great price, great service. Not expensive or fancy, just good Chinese food fast. In fact the only better lunch deal in LA I can think of is the Costco hot dog at $1.50 but it doesn't taste as good and the atmosphere sucks. At Wacky Wok the atmosphere is plenty good enough, the food is great and it's only a block from my house. How can you beat that? Especially at lunch for a little over six bucks for entree, rice, and soup. A winner at twice the price! Eat here. You won't be sorry. read more

I got diarrhea an hour after eating there and I can't believe they had my order ready in less than five minutes after ordering on the phone. I will never go there again. I found a rubber band in the fried rice which I have taken a picture of. The bbq pork was so old and try it couldn't be eaten. The egg rolls tasted totally spoiled and we're immediately tossed out. Waste of almost 100 bucks. Never again , and I will be sure my friends are aware of this as well read more

My advice stay away from Wacky Wok. I was there and watched one of the chefs grabbing noodles and raw meats with his bare hands stuffing them into a food container, then dumping them into the wok. After cooking he would use a utensil to stuff back into the same container what didn't fit he again used his bare hands. Gross and unsanitary actions. I left ! read more

I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious my tofu and vegetables were. That's usually a rather bland dish to order, but at Wacky Wok it was a tasty AND healthy meal. The staff was extremely nice and thankful for our business. It seems like it can get swamped here and food can take awhile to be ready. I witnessed a customer throwing a huge hissy fit over his food taking awhile and the lady working here was able to calm him down - props to her. I'd return for another healthy meal here. read more

Amazing! After years of searching for REAL Chicago /east coast style Chinese food I've finally found wacky wok and this is definitely mine and my BFs favorite Chinese spot. He's a new yorker with a specific taste for Chinese and I'm from Chicago and lean towards Cantonese style Chinese food. The Mongolian Beef Is delicious with big chunks of tender beef and just the right amount of veggies and the shrimp fried rice without egg was excellent and not greasy at all. I got pork fried rice and it's just like I would get in Chicago! Finally! Pot stickers were tasty too and the delivery was in just 40 minutes to my marina del rey apartment. A bit pricey but ohh so worth it ($47 with tip and $3 delivery charge for two large fried rice dishes the Mongolian beef we split and an order of pot stickers.) Will definitely be back again! There were enough left overs for us both to have a large lunch tomorrow too! read more

Just stopped by to get the lunch special and some spring rolls to go. Got home to find that I didn't have what I expected. I recall the lunch special (as advertised on menu/sign) including entree, rice, soup and fried wonton. I think there are variations- but I just ended up with the kung pao chicken and some brown rice. Good thing I ordered a side of spring rolls. But honestly I found them a bit bland. While the food is fresh here- I don't get it? Maybe the person who put t/g the order was just off. I am still on the lookout for a place that is new york style (their sign/banner says so but I strongly disagree). read more

Have been going to Wacky Wok for years, with always delicious food. Always place a phone order for pickup without any issues. For the first time ever, this evening, I was confronted with the most obnoxious rude staff member on the phone who said he would not place a phone order without any explanation and in a very ride manner. I called back to inquire about the reason and to also state my displeasure at their attitude to be told I was welcome to come into the store and wait for the order but they would not take a phone order because they are busy, again from a confrontational ! Logic dictates there is no difference in time taken to make the order in either scenario. Wacky Wok, you have definitively lost me as a customer forever. Will call in orders to Mao's kitchen in future who are always friendly and respectful. read more

Their egg drop and sweet and sour soups are hearty, delicious, and the best I have yet eaten. Their eggrolls are massive and a meal it itself. It's becoming a regular spot for me and the boyfriend for their soups. We have to try other dishes, but I will highly review for their soups and eggrolls. read more

If I could give this place a 0 I would. the hot and sour soup was amazing but the service was horrific. Waiting 35 minutes to get water. Had to flag down the one server here to even order food. The soup, which was spooned from an already made container, took 40 minutes to get. I have NEVER had such terrible service in my life. tonight I ordered delivery. And got the spareribs (Outstanding flavor and very lean) boneless.. The lettuce wraps (very good) and chicken fried rice (very lean chicken and Ny style for sure). I liked all 3 of these dishes very much. A few weeks ago I had the chicken with crunchy noodles and veggies at the other location and liked it a lot, but I hated the pork bao buns I tried at th other location. Ehhhhh. Lo main was soggy and had zero vegetables in it. And the wacky wok chicken had next to no spice and the "chicken" part was also in question. I found myself chewing for over a min before having to spit it out and just eat the Lo main for the rest of the meal. For $25 for those two items this place is not worth it read more

Absolutly the worst service I have ever encountered. It took 20 minutes to get a glass of water and almost 50 to get my food. The staff would also ignore our requests for simple things like utensils. The one benefit was the hot and sour soup was some of the best I've ever had. read more

Noodles weren't cooked and all the food was delivered a complete mess with sauce all over the outside of the boxes. Went with a friend who was craving Asian cuisine. Really good. Was tipped off by another pal to try the lettuce wraps - the waiter suggested I try the chicken version. Mmm. So good. Love their Orange Chicken Lunch Special, I find myself craving it at least once a week. If I can't get to Wacky Wok and I have to get Orange Chicken anywhere else I'm always disappointed. The only reason I don't give the place more stars is because sometimes when I dine in service can be very slow or the server does everything else possible in the world before they actually come back over to my table to help me. So I recommend ordering it for take-out, it's ready fast and you don't have to worry about the service. Luckily their food is really good. read more

came for lunch here b/c we didnt want to drive all the way to any asian towns that were too far. i guess this place is the closest "chinese" eatery in my area. maybe i should look further. but i read on the bathroom poster that LA gave this place 4-star for being a humble & cheap but also good chinese place in this area. i would agree. i have no complains about the service or the food or the price, and the speed of service was fast. my lunch that came with soup was $6.50, and i brought half of it home cuz there was so much food. it was definitely more american-chinese than chinese food that i just ate at monterey park yesterday so just so you know, if you are around venice, it's not mind-blowing, but it's cheap & good. if you are wiling to drive to get good chinese food, go to monterey park. read more

This place was recommended by Kristi Toliver. True to her word this food is sufficient enough to get some quality Chinese tasting food in the marina. The service was slightly above average and the people were quite friendly. We order 3 dishes of which all the meats were sliced exactly the same but just flavored according to what we ordered. Great If you need a quick bite to eat that's inexpensive. Very friendly staff who offered me ice water while I was waiting for my take out order. The orange chicken was very good but could have been a bit spicier. The fried rice was not too good, I will get white or brown next time. There was nothing in the fried rice other than rice and soy... am used to getting some green onions, egg or bean sprouts in it. It doesn't take much to make a fresh fried rice that doesn't taste and look like Rice-a-Roni. Hot and sour soup was tasty. But no after dinner cookies?!? Wacky Wok is yummy... the Shrimp in Lobster sauce is tasty and so is their garlic chicken, also the BBQ pork fried rice =) I've been ordering from here for months and have only had 1 bad delivery experience (they got the order wrong) so I had to drive back to the restaurant for them to correct it. Need a cheap, decent fast Chinese food on the westside? -- then this is the only place to go right now on south of Pico -- especially around Abbot Kinney, Venice, Playa Del Rey, and Marina Del Rey, even Westchester, I swear to god , there should be more Chinese restaurants on this side. Anyway -- I've been going here for years, trying to find a replacement for my Chinese craving on some weekend nights -- and I have failed to find one that offers same quantity-quality-price ratio. You get the basics here -- I like Kung Pao Chicken. You can't really go wrong with most food. Owner has changes but the food is basically the same. A low key, divey, inexpensive, good food, Chinese Restaurant. Ok- the decor is (as we speak) being improved, thank the good Buddha for that. It was horrid in there prior to about Spring of 08. However, the food!!!! OK the food is another story. I really like this place because it is clean, so clean that you can see your food being cooked. Not too many restaurants of any kind will offer that. For good reason----- most restaurant kitchens are a hot-steamy-train wrecks, of germs. Wacky is clean, prices are fair (going up I have noticed), service depends on who you get, so I would say maybe OK at best, but the flavorful food is really good. Seriously good. I finally tried Wacky wok. It's been in Venice for 29 years. The original chef/owner came to Venice from China via NYC. That explains the wall mural of Manhattan. The same family still co owns the restaurant and the two dishes I tried (Kung pow chicken and vegetable lo mein) we're tasty and not oily. The service was fast and friendly. I'll go back when I have another craving for Chinese food. read more

I ordered from here after seeing that the owner writes back to every reviewer. I figured anyone who cares that much about what they deserves a shot. What worked: The Fried Rice is really good. I usually hate chinese food in LA. But this takes me back to what i have eaten all over Asia. a little over done but still better than most other places i have eaten at. Orange Chicken - To die for. Really nice. The heat was just right and added a great dimension to the flavor. What did not work: The Schezwan Chicken - was a very strange flavors. The tomatoes overwhelmed and it was nothing like i have ever eaten with the name 'Schezwan Chicken' I threw it out after a bite. I knew i was not going touch it. The Kung Pao - pretty ok but could pack in a lot more flavor. I'd say your fried rice has way more flavor than the Kung Pao. It just needs to amped up. I wanna taste the ginger the garlic the spice in it. The packaging of the food was terrible. To pack dishes with sauces in paper boxes usually used to pack rice just creates a mess. For the prices you'll charge, i would expect better food packaging. I would order the first two dishes and even try out other stuff from here provided their fried rice remains the same.
