The Waffle House can never fail me unless you undercook my grits, and this WH did not. I placed a to-go order over the phone for the All Star platter and arrived to this location in less than 10 minutes after hanging up. The restaurant was full and upon walking up to the register, I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed anything. I was checked out swiftly and handed my food. When I got back to the office my food was still hot and appeared to be cooked with love (my mom's words). As a "Southerner" for just over a year - I don't have the love of Waffle House some others do - but was "overserved" at a concert, but still hat the wits about me to know I needed grease and starch before I went to bed - so thought I'd try Waffle House. The food was solid drunk food (Patty melt, hash browns) - but there is a special place in heaven for Waffle House waitresses - between the loud mouth Dungeons and Dragons dork loudly using profanity to his other dorks (I guess being leader of the dorks makes you cool....) to the douche bag rich kids talking down to the waitress - then STIFFING HER when it came to a tip...and this was on a TUESDAY - I can't imagine the abuse they put up with on the weekend....So if you go, by now you know what it is - tip at least 20% for the abuse these servers put with... Today I tried calling them at 11 o'clock and 1 p.m. To put in a take out order. Both times I get no answer and the phone just constantly rings. I called another waffle house around the corner and it just went to fax machine. The wait staff here is great. Very friendly and talkative. Not put off by having to take your order. The food was yummy just like I expect from a Waffle House. Tried to make a to go order and no one would acknowledge me for at least ten minutes. When I finally made the order Derrick at the register was very rude and wouldn't tell me how long it would be. I checked on my order and they told me it would be another 20 minutes. Derrick was like "I told you we don't know how long it would be and I'd let you know." Went there and ordered triple hashbrowns topped, waited 40 minutes and then noticed they never had the Chili ready. They started cooking it on the stove and poured a bunch of water in it. The cook finished it and told the server that it was ready. She told him four times that it was ready and I was standing directly in front of it. Ten minutes passed and I just left without getting my food. I can understand the forgetfulness, I can understand the wait because there were a lot of customers, but what I can't forget is food just being left on the counter top, getting cold and soggy. Have eaten here many times before and it was great. This last visit was not, I ordered the Texas chicken patty melt and it came out like rubber. I'm guessing the chicken was frozen, thawed, and then frozen and thawed again before it was served. Completely inedible, then when I complained to the manager I was told I still had to pay for it (even though it was completely inedible) and that "that's just how the chicken in here". I live in the neighborhood and was very excited when it openned. Have beem twice and will be driving the extra few miles to another if i ever have a waffle house craving. Do not expect faat, friendly, or even courteous from at least a few main employees. I had the same waitress both times, out of respect though none was earned I'll not name drop. however the first time we went it was brand new maybe two months. After a day trip out of the city that saw us home around midnight my sister and our friend (all of us college aged) sat down to be greeted by our server not with a "hi" but a stern " Have yall been drinking tonight?" So... already put off a bit i order a tea and we wait...(no fluff added ) for ten minutes for our drinks while we watched our waitress talk to other staff and play on her phone. she was rude and didnt even pretend to be pleasant. We order, finally. Food does not all come out at all, and what does is not as ordered. We left. My memorable experience with our waitress on my second visit was the moment when she finally, unpleasantly, brings our food out (two plates) and stands to the side, her arm with food facing the table she sticks her arm, and our food still on it over the table and says " here you go ." then she makes my boyfrind and i grab the plates off her arm while she has a totally free other hand. This was my first Waffle House experience. Everything was fine. You can tell the food quality is on the low end, but that keeps the prices down so no complaints. The eggs were great and the waffles tasty. Toast comes with LOTS of butter already on it so if that is an issue, you may ask for it on the side. Hash browns were ok. No complaints. I had the pleasure of being served my Ms.Chantay. From the get go she made me feel at home. I felt loved and appreciated. She was incredibly sweet and hardworking. That whole team was on point and I wish I had all of their names to put on here. There was a white lady and her daughter having a spat that was a big downer but Ms.Chantay and staff made the best of it. The pecan waffles and grits were in point. Damn I missed that place! As much as I love Waffle House, this visit at this location was a MAJOR fail. Granted, it was a busy morning and it's super packed. But it doesn't mean that my boyfriend's waffle needs to come out cold and distorted. I ordered a Texas bacon cheesesteak melt without onions. I get it with onions on it AND the cheese wasn't even melted. It's like they just threw a slice of cheese on there and called it a day. I own a business less than a block away so I decided to walk over mid morning and get breakfast for myself and one of my staff. She had a BLT on Texas toast and I got a scrambled egg with cheese and hash browns - no toast, no meat. The bill was $13.00 plus change. The order was wrong so I had to wait for the sandwich to be redone and when the order was checked, she had added extra hash browns to the sandwich order. I got back $1 + change. I really feel that this price was still wrong and I will ask prices before I ever order there again. Either the staffer is dishonest and skimming or else she can't add. The prices are good, the food is good, the staff is very friendly and always smiling, but the service time on the weekend mornings is awful. HOWEVER, There's never enough seating when we arrive on weekend mornings, and we always end up waiting 20-30 minutes to be able to sit at a table or the bar to eat. Once we're seated, it takes 10-12 minutes before anyone takes our order. Orders take a good while to be served as well once an order has been made. The main problem is that not only do they receive more customers than the location can handle on a weekend morning. But their operations priority is backwards when it comes to which type of customers receive priority. They receive a ton of called in carry out orders and this causes a major back up in service to the customers who actually dine in. Called in carry out orders should be secondary in placement compared to orders made by customers that are dining in and waiting on service. That's why their ability to get customers in, served, and out is so backed up and dine in customers end up having to wait a very long time to be seated and served. Otherwise the food is good and the staff is always very friendly with a genuine smile on their faces. The friendly staff and good food is why we always return and wait. But it would be great to walk in for a change and not have to wait so long to be seated and eat. read more
