The Main St. Waffle House is always a treat. We decided to stop in after some trick or treating on Halloween to get a tasty meal and we were not disappointed. The establishment was clean, the service was phenomenal, and the food was delicious! Our hash browns were cooked just how we wanted, the eggs were fluffy, the sandwiches were meaty, and of course the waffles were perfect. We fed our family of four and everyone left satisfied all for exactly 40 dollars. Yes this place is a greasy spoon bordering on unclean but the service is great and the workers try really hard. Our server was a gentleman who was very efficient going over the items that weren't on the menu, ensuring that our glasses and coffee cups were refilled promptly. I'm so glad for his suggestions because it made my experience that much more special. Within 10 minutes of a crowded restaurant we were greeted and seated. Server was prompt after going over the items on the menu my husband but with the pork chops (they were delicious) eggs and waffles. As for me I had that traditional special for $7.95 of waffles, my choice was pecan it was flat but good, additionally I chose grits, eggs and yummy country fried ham. This was served with really good raisin toast. The Waffle House lived up to the southern bonafides of serving 'real grits' as they were smooth and buttery. The Waffle House experience here was disappointing. We sat at the bar this time. I ordered the two egg breakfast and coffee. It took awhile to get my food because another waiter took my plate to another table. When I finally got my food, it didn't come how I ordered and I didn't even get the meat I ordered until I was done eating. I wasn't interested in it after that. The thing that really upset me during my breakfast is that they were spraying buckets, plates and whatever else in front of me. At one point I caught a spritz of water in my face. Water was on the table and I know it got on my food. Gross. When we pointed it out to the waiter he didn't really say anything about it. Just said, "lots of crazy stuff happens here." Huh??? Disgusting. Disgusted. The head cook looked at another cook while pulling something out of the raw hash browns and said "look what I found in here." She then threw it on the floor and went on to cook and serve those hash browns. Blonde hair cook. I can even fathom why you would do that 1) in front of customers 2) loud and obnoxious 3) as the head cook. All of the staff's personal conversations and arguments were louder than the waitresses putting in the orders (which as you know is yelled to the cooks). I love Waffle House, but NOT this one! It is my go to comfort food, or travel food. I never thought that in my life time, that I would have an experience so terrible, that I actually felt comfortable complaining about a Waffle House. We get there and its packed! I get that. A group of customers had left their table just before my family and I walked in. We waited a few minutes to see if they were ever going to clean off the table for us. Eventually we were invited to sit at the dirty table, assured that it would be taken care of. It was another 5 minutes before the table was cleared. 10 minutes goes by, and we get our order taken. Another 5, and we finally got our coffee, and the Apple Juice we asked for, for our daughter. Out waitress, not only ignored us, (over her smoke breaks AND paying more attention to her phone behind the counter), but the customers next to us, who had been seated shortly after us (for so long that another waitress finally picked up her slack) We finally get our order. It was right, surprisingly. The only ones that were on their game, were the cooks. They actually seemed to care about their jobs. Other waitresses were griping at customers because she "didn't have any patience left". None of the staff seemed like they were in a hurry to do anything. I will never return to this WH. I am honored that I usually recieve an active duty discount at the majority of these establishments. I usually add my discount to the TIPS anyways. I didn't even bother to ask here. To start we were never said hello to, Ok around 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon we stopped in for a late lunch. We were asked to sit at a table that still had dirty cups and glasses. We waited a minimum of 5 minutes for someone to come and clean our table and never was asked if we would like to order. During that time my wife said in a clear and loud voice, someone should come over and clean this mess and take our order. This WH used to be "ours" when we were stationed here the first time in '02. Clean, the servers & cooks always were always friendly, respectful and always had a smile on their faces. We actually came her so much that we reached a point where we didn't have to order anymore. We came in the door, the server said "the usual", we agreed and food was ordered. In '06 we moved away. Luckily last year we moved back here again after being gone for 11 years. On August 13th, 2016; we went to this WH with our daughter and her best friend, L.! The server (Barbara) had to ask multiple times what we wanted to drink. And than still brought the teenagers tea instead of hot chocolate. When she finally did bring the hot chocolate she had it in those styrofoam to-go cups. Right when I was about to ask for real coffee mugs, the server reached for L.'s styrofoam cup (for whatever reason), knocked it over and poured the hot liquid all over the girls legs. Yes, she was wearing shorts. Yes, she got first degree burns. Luckily I am a CMA and knew what to do. I took her to the restroom to clean up, demanded a fresh, dry dishcloth (since they were trying to give me one they used already to wipe surfaces off) and I had to ask 3 times for ice cubes. I didn't eat my breakfast because I was so upset; the manager never bothered to come to our table AND we got charged the full amount for that breakfast. At that point I was at the car already and walked back in after my husband told me he had to pay. The full amount. I demanded to speak to the manager who than finally made an appearance. "They said something happened; but I didn't know what." was her response and excuse for not taking care of this right when it happened. I wrote HQ right away a note and will never ever go back to this dirt hole again. Which brings me to my second reason this place is getting one star (and one star only because I can not give zero!). I don't know when this place has been cleaned from top to bottom but it has been a while. Chairs have dust and dirt on them at least as thick as my pinkie; the kitchen shines from all the grease that's not being cleaned off and the bathroom (at least the woman's bathroom) had no soap dispenser and was overall disgusting. First visit to a Waffle House. I will start by saying that both the food and the service were pretty good. Not excellent on either front but our waitress was friendly, if not overly so. Our food was decent, good prices and ready quickly. This is by no means a place to go if you want a really good breakfast out. But for a quick, inexpensive and filling meal, this is definitely worth the trip. Floors could have been cleaner and tables could have been larger. Hard to fit all the plates for four meals onto one of their booth tables. I am told this is an excellent option for late night dining too. read more

This was the worst experience and I didn't even get to eat. Our server Kayla took forever to clear the table and when she finally did she knocked the food off the table onto me. She then decided to serve someone that came in after us. Once seated she never even came over to get our drink orders. After waiting for ten minutes we decided to leave. I seldom write bad reviews but the """"OWNERS of the Waffle Houses"""" NOT managers or leaders of the franchises on Old Trolley Road, Dorchester road at the end of Trolley Road and on Main street in Summerville, SC needs to sneak into these places several different times unannounced with nobody knowing them so they may possibly see what many customers see. Greetings/pleasant service/good food out the window. I can see these going out of business if service doesn't change. Revamp the cooks, leaders and servers. Leaders need to be people loving people, open and polite to workers and lead in a way that workers will want to follow.. Today the server looked like she was sucking on lemons, the cook had nobody keeping him on track, food extremely greasy, omelet was dry/rubbery, bacon greasy/burnt yuk, orange jc and grits good and person with me said coffee tasted good. I'm puzzled, this cook use to be good under friendly loving management. I've seen him for years here. Server was not close by for service any of the time except to take our money. I wanted to walk out but am just choosing to go to the one on Universal Blvd at Trident instead or go to Perkins, IHOPS, McDonalds close by or even Trident Hospital food better than this. Sad I should have to go that far when these use to be dependable, food delicious and the servers/management was friendly and enjoyable to be around for years. All 3 of the Waffle houses in Summerville I just mentioned are this bad right now. The jute box volume needs to be set lower where its soft and pleasing/relaxing to listen to for an enjoyable meal.
