I walked in to this typical Waffle House and was greeted by a waitress behind the counter. I sat at the counter and checked out the menu. The waitress was friendly and easy to talk to. The walls had photos about the history of Waffle House. They have seating at the counter and a few booths. I had hashbrowns with ham onions, jalapenos and two sunny side up eggs. We enjoyed waffle house at 71st&Mingo in Tulsa on a busy Sunday morning. There was a brief wait. Our waitress was incredible. She was kind and considerate and didn't seem panicked,rushed or out of her element in the fast paced atmosphere. We got our delicious food quickly. This was one of the best experiences we've had at the WH! The staff seemed capable and cohesive. 5/5. And I was the only person in the entire building so that maybe shows this isn't a preferred location in this area (I'm from out of town so I'd never been to this one before). If I could give 0 stars I would. First off, we ordered hashbrown bowls and got melts? Not even to mention the melts were missing the jalapeños we asked for. When they did come back with the hashbrown bowls, it was still missing the jalapeños, and it somehow took the server 5+ minutes to grab a few? Our friend ordered a Dr Pepper, received water, and when he tried asking for the correct drink, she responded with "we don't have that, so I got you water" not sure why she wouldn't just say that in the first place. The server quite literally looked at me like I was insane for asking for silverware. Like sorry, I'll eat with my hashbrown bowl with my hands next time. Despite the consistent disappointment, we attempted ordering a waffle with chocolate, blueberry, and pecans. We got a waffle with chocolate and peanut butter. I do my best not to be a Karen, but a manager was very clearly needed. I told her the consistency in the poor service was not worth almost $40, she responded with an attitude while saying "what do you want me to do? Make it free?" Umm who let you manage a whole restaurant when you don't even know how to please paying customers. We ended up paying $30 and waffle-less. The food here is pretty good at a reasonable price. Seating and order taking is fast enough. I especially like the hash browns that you can order with extra options on it like onions, shredded cheese, plus more that I can't remember since those are the only two I add to mine. They have names for it like scattered, covered, and smothered. What I think is odd is that instead of writing the order on paper for the cook, the waitress stands quite a ways from the cook and hollers out the code names. It must take a very long time to train a cook with that method and the cook would have to have a very good memory. They seem to make it work, but I still feel sorry for the cook. If the waffle houses ever get to where they have frequent turnover of cooks, they might rethink this no paper order system of theirs. read more

This was a reasonable place to have a breakfast, very crowded and noisy. Food was pretty good but not amazing. Eggs, Cheese, Tomato's and a waffle for $10. Waffle House spread, not butter, good syrup and waffle proportions, waffle was thin and soft. Cheese was American not cheddar. They wee doing dishes literally right in front of me and at one point I had to wipe the water splashes off of my face and phone, then I looked in my coffee cup in curiosity. Strong point: they are fast and seem to really appreciate the customers, nice folks. Tiny napkins. Probably will not return by choice if I have options unless I need a smile. I have been a long time customer. Staff is friendly. Most of them. I was seated at counter. Ordered coffee, which is rather expensive, $2.50. Attempted to order my usual, poached eggs. Server said they are no longer allowed to serve poached eggs. I said coffee will be it then. Upon finishing my coffee and paying, I mentioned to cashier that they might put a sign up since I already had ordered and started my coffee. She said " If it is not on the menu we won't make it", very curtly. No need for that. I said, well, you don't say, scrambled. over easy, or anything else about the preparation of the eggs, so, I guess you no longer serve eggs either, She looked at me with a scowl, because, in my way of thought, she had just blurted out BS. After searching the situation on line, it appears Waffle house corporate had made this decision. Too bad. I have been going there over 40 years or so, but, adios!!! I tried an omelette that was dripping with onions and cheese over both that and the hashbrowns. It was greasy but it was delicious. I only eat this type of breakfast food maybe once every six months but they did well at this. The bacon was cheap bacon. It tasted good but lacked any gourmet quality. The pancakes are really not too bad and with a bit of syrup are swallowable. It was an ordinary, average sort of breakfast but quite good. It your going by gourmet quality, its about two stars. If your going by does it taste good, its about four stars and that was what impressed me. The waitress was prompt and always on it when we needed coffee. It tasted good, it wasn't disgusting. One star because of the service we received.... Asked for decaf. I got it.... It was the blackest coffee I've ever seen... I assumed it was old. I asked for fresh... The server, Matt (big guy, I think that is his name), brought me another cup. The coffee had grounds floating in it. Brought the tomatoes, they looked barely red. I said I don't want those. He said ok. Then, I said take this coffee off my ticket too, I don't want grounds. He walked off and made a noise as if he was disgusted by my requests as to remove those items off my bill and I wouldn't eat or drink these items.... I did tell him , next time he walks off and makes the noises because he was put out by me not willing to eat or drink what I was served to do it a little more under his breath so the customer doesn't hear him... First of all there were all these dead crickets or something like that inside of the overhead fluorescent light clear plastic panels in the ceiling. However, that isn't why I took the time to write in. My wife, daughter and myself all went in for breakfast on the weekend and ordered. The menu said something like a free orange juice with a meal, but when ordering the waitress discovered that I was going to drink the orange juice that came with my wife's meal and said that if that was the case then she would have to charge us extra since the orange juice didn't come with the meal that I had ordered. I said your kidding me right? She said no, that's the rules or something to that effect. We started to leave but blew it off and stayed and ordered. To be fair the meal was okay, what you might expect at a waffle house and for that price range. What I didn't like was the "orange juice" policy. The menu didn't say anything about who had to drink the orange juice. This may sound like I'm making a big deal out of nothing, but it was enough to irritate me and that as we drove off we decided as a group to not go back. There is no shortage of breakfast places so we will continue to go to other places. I know some of you will read this and you will be prepared ahead of time or you may decide not to go at all. All the expensive marketing and advertising is worth nothing if the customer service is poor. Oh, and by the way this happened probably about 9 months ago. Some one else told me a similar story about a restaurant that didn't honor a coupon for buy one get one of the same or lessor amount free. Three meals were ordered and they gave them the lessor one for free, not the same value one. This person's story reminded me of mine, and so I thought I would let some more of you know. Hopefully, some of you will find this rating helpful. Also, we haven't been back since and we used to eat there somewhat regularly. It really is just me exercising my my ability to choose a new breakfast restaurant after the waitress chose to implement a silly and stupid policy. I wonder how many other people have not come back and didn't bother to write in about it.
