A very cozy place to eat. It has a family run feel to it and the food tastes like it. I had the meat lover's omelette and home fries and they were very tasty! What an amazing little find in Alexandria! It's a great diner spot literally on the corner of Mt. Vernon Street. I walked in for basic eggs and bacon and was immediately impressed by this cheers environment! It was only a counter space with about 15 chairs at the counter total and no walking space whatsoever, but I'm a sucker for Diners, drive in, and dives so I was enamored by the tiny house feel of this diner. I grabbed a seat and could barely look at the menu before the waitress asked for my order. I just ordered the first thing I saw an omelet with sausage and bacon! She also threw in a waffle for my tiny guest free of charge! Everything was fast and really good. I barely had elbow room so I told myself that I was back in NYC and I got through the claustrophobic moment. All in all this was a great spot with good breakfast food. The staff was speaking in Spanish to most of the customers so I had to dig back deep into my 2 year of Hs and 1 semester of college Spanish to understand the words that were coming out of their mouths. I then began speaking Spanish myself and it felt like a immersion experience, but I stopped so I wouldn't accidentally order anything else off the menu and everything went well!!! I wanted bananas on my waffle, so the manager pulled $$ out of the register and told one of the staff to run across the street and get a banana. I felt so bad! But that waf(f)le was on fire!! One of the best dive/mom&pop/diners!! Please note, only 12 people can get in that place @ a time, the counter is a little cramped for you tall folks, and parking isn't the best... and I'd still go back. read more

First off service was super slow. While my wife was cutting up my daughter's pancakes she discovered a large roach leg baked into it. We left shortly after. We're from out of state so going there again was not an not an option, but just though all you local deserve a heads up. read more

Should not participate in delivery services. They threw whatever they wanted in my order. I ordered through DoorDash. I called the restaurant , the manager claimed he followed the order given. So e either door dash changed the order the restaurant changed it. I looked at my receipt and I did not receive what I ordered. I don't think this restaurant should be part of delivery service. Oh my goodness, don't eat here! There was only one person picking up an order when we arrived and the cook. We were feening for waffles and the pictures looked good. We should have walked out when we walked in the cook didn't have a mask. The cook took our order - one at a time about five times each and still could not remember. I ordered a Greek omelette with a fruit salad on the side. I got a pile of eggs with feta cheese and salad dressing in it and a side salad with lettuce tomatoes and more feta and salad dressing. He forgot my girlfriend's waffle even though she ordered several times. She asked for the waffle with chocolate and fruit without bananas. After repeating her order eight times, she got a waffle soaked in chocolate syrup and a side plate of berries. Her food didn't come until way after everyone else had finished. Our plates literally came out one at a time then the next person would have to repeat their order. Definitely heard him coughing in open air. He definitely took a cigarette break and didn't wash his hands when he returned. We stopped eating and left but it was too late because the two of us that ate definitely got sick immediately afterwards. Horrible breakfast experience. Never again. read more

Had my 2nd visit here today. Just like the first time, they did not disappoint. I got a waffle with sausage & scrambled eggs. Added a side of grits & corn beef hash. Everything was delicious. It's just good homemade food, prepared quickly. Nice size portions too. I wasn't able to finish it all & have a nice sized snack for later. I had to get it to go both times & the food was still hot and fresh by the time I got home. Hopefully my next visit I'll have time to sit and eat though. read more

The food here is really good! Only real downside is that there's only bar seating and then VERY limited seating outside (though I guess seating isn't the biggest issue right now with COVID and all that). It's just definitely a little difficult from what I recall before the pandemic hit. As far as the food though, everything is delicious! I especially love their chicken and waffles because the chicken has a beautiful crisp to it as well as great flavor. There's quite a bit of variety on their menu as well. The shining glory is the service here! All the waitresses and even the cooks are very friendly and give off that "family" feel when you're there. They're the type of servers who you actually don't mind making small talk with. Also, the food is prepared fairly quickly and EFFICIENTLY. Because the only real seating is at the bar, you actually see them cook the food and it's pretty cool. It's usually two people using a fairly small space, but it's so efficient and food gets out fast, even considering how busy it is. There's a reason that people literally line up to wait to eat here :) read more

I ate waffles in this seedy joint three years ago and they were soggy and I could not finish them. (ok it was three years ago, but honestly I do not think it has changed)! I did not want to eat there again as the place was dirty and has always and even now, had numerous health code violations. However, it does have an eccentric, old time charm. The neon sign is misspelled, which makes it quaint. The diner is also open 24 hours, thus inviting all sorts of characters of who sit around casually like lost souls. The diner is unique, because it reminds me of Edward Hopper's painting "Nighthawks." My only advice would be to use caution when partaking of food and drink! read more

The overwhelming smell of grease when we walked in should have been my sign to leave, but we stayed. I ordered pancakes and they were crispy.....and incredibly difficult to cut because the forks were misshapen and the knives were dull. We were the only customers. A great diner spot for quick and good food. I had a taste for Chicken and Waffles and didn't want the extravagant Saturday DC brunch, so I visited the Waffle Shop this morning. From the reviews, I knew the food would be good, but was pleasantly surprised of how great and plentiful the fried chicken was. The waffle was warm and buttery and it meshed perfectly with the chicken. The place is quaint and has a lot of characters. I went really early, before 7 AM and there was already a local crowd in the diner. Shortly after, the Saturday breakfast crowd started to come. This is a hidden gem in right outside of Del-Ray. This place is super, duper casual. We were looking for a breakfast for lunch type place that was relatively inexpensive and voila! This is what we found. Inside seating is limited to counter service and there are some outdoor tables as well. There is a tiny amount of street parking and a small parking lot on the side of the building. Everybody working there was so incredibly friendly. While we were waiting for our order the cook even gave us a complimentary waffle to munch on. Yes, it was delicious! I ordered a cheese omelette which was humongous and bf ordered some kind of meat omelette. Both came with toast and jelly. Two breakfasts and a coffee came out to just under $15. This place gets four stars for one reason only, they misspelled Waffle on their awning. I shit you not, the awning says "The Wafle Shop." Why should you absolutely go? 1) Flagrant misspellings are awesome and should be rewarded. 2) The owners/cooks/servers are really nice. 3) There are no other counter-space only diners left in the DC metro area. 4) I actually like the wafles (although my sig other and friends are not big fans unless they are also high out of their minds.) 5) They have really good bacon (order it well done) 6) They use an awl to scrape the excess from the side of the wafle maker and to retrieve said wafles and serve them...an AWL! 7) They serve shitty faux maple syrup from a squeeze bottle and I like using it to full in the indentations in my wafle before eating it...drunk. In short, this is a place for locals and people interested in enjoying a weird little out of the way dive. If you drive a BMW convertible, then please please please go up the road to one of the many mediocre cafe a la douchebag places that were designed for your flabby chino-wearing ass. I went here with my boyfriend this weekend when we were looking for a quick bite to eat. Me: Eggs over-easy, corned beef hash, home fries. Him: Chicken fingers and fries Us: Waffle to share Overall the food was good. The eggs were a little bit under cooked and a bit overly buttery, but still good. Hash and eggs were a-ok. Stay away. I like a homey greasy spoon, but not roaches. On my way out, I looked down to see a large cockroach belly up on the floor by my counter seat. Wish I had seen other recent reviews about roaches before going. On the bright side, it was dead, but I question the sanitation if nobody even swept in the morning to get it. Although you can watch your food being prepared from the counter, it's not worth the risk. Pancakes were gummy rather than fluffy, and the scrambled eggs were overcooked.
