I think I was a bigger fan of Wahoo's when it first came on the scene, but now that Chipotle is open over in the Bluffs I hardly ever find myself eating at any Wahoo's location anymore. The food is certainly healthier and less greasy than what you'll get at other places, especially if you order one of the Banzai burritos or one of their bowls. I've ordered the baja rolls here quite a few times, and they're one of my favorites here because you can't really get anything like this at comparable places. They sort of remind me of the turkey wraps at Costco but smaller. The spicy white beans here are also very tasty as well. I like the bean&cheese burritos because they're great for an in-between meals snack (they're not very big), but they're a bit too overpriced unfortunately. I appreciate the originality of this place and respect the fact that they're not trying to be an "authentic" Mexican restaurant by any means, but in the end I find myself having cravings for places like Chipotle, Rubio's and Albatros more than this place. read more

Good food, not awesome. The fish tacos aren't too bad. The chicken enchilada is good, but the red sauce is much better than the green one. The green sauce is not even close to spicy. I'm not sure how to categorize this place though, since they also have burgers/sandwiches/salads on the menu. Hmm... Decor is interesting. Wahoo charms me for reasons unbeknownst to myself; the food's pretty good but not great. I never try to think of this place as a Mexican joint. The food tastes good and it's filling, but it doesn't seem like a McDonalds: industrial, thoughtless eating, or like child's play. Yet, the food doesn't make you go "wow!" It's just decently healthy and decently priced. I usually order 2 regular fish tacos or a regular fish taco and "enchilada" with rice and black beans. I love how they have black beans and nothing is over-the-top cheesy, even though I love cheese. I just don't overboard with it. The Wahoo's is tucked away in the far corner of this plaza. It is always popping during lunch with all the corporate offices in the area. There is a lot of seating but not enough to accommodate the lunch rush. I work in this plaza and will occasionally come by here for lunch. I'm a typical fish eater and will order either tacos or salad. That's what I used to order when I used eat at Wahoo's more often a few years back but at other locations. I ordered the blacken fish here. When I got the plate, I wasn't sure if it was chicken or fish. It was hard, dry, and bland. I was confused about what I was eating until I got half way through it. It might just be this location but I think the fish here is not fresh at all. Everything is frozen. I think you're better off not getting fish here even though they're known for their fish tacos. read more

It's been more than a year since I've eaten a Wahoo's Fish Tacos, but when my coworkers asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday lunch, I picked this excellent establishment. Founded in the late 1980's by two brothers, I remember trying Wahoo's interesting take on Casual Mexican/Hawaiian fare at the Costa Mesa location and loving it. The years have been kind to this concept and my favorite is the Maui Bowl. The Maui Bowl consists of Teriyaki-marinated Carne Asada piled on a heap of white rice, your choice of black beans (my personal favorite) or spicy white beans. Served with a side of salsa (I usually order extra) this dish is best served mixed up into a pile of unrecognizable bliss and wolfed down. The Maui Onion Rings are also delicious. Thickly cut onion slices battered and deep fried, they were so awesome that it was difficult to share with my coworkers. But since my boss is at the table, I won't jealously horde them like I normally do with awesome onion rings. Beware that this location is in a very crowded shopping center with a CPK, and a Houston's steakhouse, so parking can be difficult to find if you come too late. The waiter service question below is a bit tricky, because like a lot of other fast-casual places, you order your food at a cashier first, find an unassigned seat and someone will bring your food to your table. i come here for lunch since its super close to my work. i dont have to drive, can just walk for ~3 minutes and im already there. i come here just out of convenience. i love mexican food, so ive had a good share of burritos/tacos/enchiladas and wahoo's does not compare to la/sd mexican joints. BUT it is local and quick. outer reef burrito: it is ok, nothing amazing. i got it with carne asada and the steak was a little dry. i just covered it up with hot sauce lol. they put alot of other ingredients such as lettuce/bean to give you less meat. the green sauce is pretty good though. maui bowl: i tried the both the beef bowl and the chicken bowl. it wasnt that amazing.i wouldnt order it again. tofu enchiladas: i dont know why anyone would recoomend this dish. maybe its for those hardcore vegeterians. but for me, who looove meat, not my cup of tea. fish tacos: it was alright. the batter was a little dry read more

You know I'm honestly surprised. I was used to the UCI location and they seemed to nickel and dime you for very little, but the one here seemed pretty reasonable. I got the Banzai Burrito and it was a refreshing change of pace, that teriyaki flavor mixed with veggies and carne asada came out pretty good. Even during the lunch rush, we were able to get our food and seats pretty quickly. The prices were actually pretty decent considering that it's a major lunch rush area in the middle of Irvine. I've been eating at Wahoo's for over 15 years. This was one of my weekly go to's. Over the last couple of years i have recognized a significant change in their quality of food. Their steak tastes rotten and extremely gamey and the chicken is always rubbery and hard to chew. This used to be one of my kids favorite places and now they refuse to go here. So sad. After writing a bad review about this place, I received a nice gesture and a $10 gift card to dine in at the restuarant which I happily accepted! and decided to give it a second try. This time instead of ordering to go, I actually sat outside and enjoyed the very delicious shrimp plate with a guacamole side order (the gift card said; must dine inside). I really like the fish tacos here. I'm not a big fan of the battered fish tacos so that's why I like the fish tacos here better. I never leave here hungry. You get a good amount of food, especially if you order the combos (includes rice and beans). I like that you have a choice of white rice or brown rice and black beans or pinto beans. I also like their enchiladas with red sauce (i don't like the green sauce..blah). One more thing, I prefer not to order take out at Wahoos. They have good customer service and very attention to detail ..... when they serve the food to you, ask if you need anything else and say "enjoy" now that is receiving money's worth for food and customer service! The first thing you notice is the decor. They try to have a laid back environment, but I think it is trying WAY too hard. I ordered a wet shrimp burrito (green sauce.) Green Sauce = Tasty, went very well with the burrito Shrimp = Not good. The batter was shitty, and it tasted like popcorn shrimp at a cheap fast food place. Tuesday with no Taco Tuesday special :( makes me sad cuz the tacos are alright. I mean if you're going to be known literally as "Wahoo's Fish Tacos" then your fish tacos should be great, not just alright. My first complaint is about the batter they use, it was kind of thick so the fish has almost a chicken tender like consistency, next is the cheese it was good but I wish it was cotija cheese and I also wish there was more of it. There's also no guac, you have to pay extra for It. The only reason why I gave 2 stars is because the margaritas were amazing and the guy making them is awesome I wish I could give just the margaritas 5 stars. My friend and I usually go to Slap fish for Taco Tuesday and it's much better much cheaper $1.50 and the tacos come with guac and a spicy chipotle sauce and are tempura fried and they have $10 bottles of wine. I mean that's no question I spent $30 on lunch today when usually at slap fish I only spend $16 for better quality fish and more alcohol. No questions asked never coming here again. The service was really good though I will give them that, the restaurant was clean and everyone's nice. But if I wanted to pay for people to be nice to me I would go to a strip club.
