This place has really good kimchee that comes with the food you order, I'm not sure it's only if you dine in because I never did takeout with them. My mom and I came to have lunch and she got a cheeseburger deluxe and I got the meat jun plate. The meat jun plate was very delicious and the portion was huge! It was very tender and flavorful! I enjoyed it a lot and it didn't even need the dipping sauce that came with it. Overall, they have huge portions of food that's a little bit pricier but I feel it's worth it. read more

Wow!! This little hole in the wall place is amazing. Food is really good And they give a lot. Number one choice for me was the mochiko chicken!!! They give a lot of fun they are very generous. Service is great. The owner is so sweet. She is so friendly. Restaurant gets crowded very fast and I noticed a lot of take out orders too. Not to make booths only like 8-10 . I finally got to dine here during my last day of staycation, out on the west side. I had a quick breakfast with my other half, after checking out of the hotel since he had to work right after. I had this business bookmarked for the longest time. A Perfect time to support local during this Covid 19 pandemic. Don't judge a place by the cover or the location, we found parking right in front of Waipahu Cafe. I always drive pass this complex often to get to the other business here in Waipahu and I just bypass Waipahu Cafe. Shop is very tiny with a few booth seatings, service was quick and friendly, credit cards are excepted, I must keep that in mind that business close at 2pm daily and closed on Tuesdays. We had plans for breakfast and was surprised to see Korean food is available also, Waipahu Cafe serves up Korean and local Hawaiian cuisine for breakfast and lunch such as noodles, soups, pancakes, fried rice, omelettes. Did you know that Waipahu Cafe is "Home of the Fried Rice Omelet" ? I just found out from glancing at the menu. Although Waipahu Cafe is home of the fried rice omelet, I ended up ordering corned beef omelet (9.25) and not not fried rice omelet. *note/ sub for fried rice is an additional $3.25 and side order of rice is 3.00 per scoop. After our meal, I realized with these extra sides, haha I could have order 2 breakfast plates instead, would come out to the same price. Note to self for next time. I don't normally eat breakfast and so I stuck to our plans to share. The entree was huge and it was more than enough for 2. The fried rice was super tasty and I love the rice, They have the best rice cooker! I just love rice that is cooked perfectly and not watery! I guess I can say that, $3 for just a small scoop of white rice, is worth it here. While eating, I noticed that this place fills up pretty quick & it was super cool watching grandma cooking on the huge grill, when I went to counter to request for the bill. 5 stars for their mochiko chicken, which is marinated in a sweet kalbi-style sauce and then deep fried in a mochiko batter. The chicken is moist and so tasty! The fried rice omelet is also good. We also ordered a side of meat Jhun to try and it was flavorful (there was a bit of sweetness in it and it was welcomed and good). There were a lot of regulars coming in and out of there. I could restate how friendly the owner and staff is, but there is one aspect of Waipahu Grill that isn't mentioned [although I haven't read all the reviews...] The place is nearly spotless! Very clean and well kept. Even the grill, which they cook just about everything on - shines. I'm not a cleanliness freak, so when that is what I'm noticing, it has to be over the top. Yelped for a breakfast spot since I was in the area. Found this place and saw that it was almost 5 stars. These little hole in the wall cafes are often hidden gems, so I gave it a try. A bit dated inside the very small restaurant and not too clean. I should've left at this point but my friend was ready to eat so I didn't want to fuss. I ordered the Denver Omelet minus the ham. It was just a mess and the onions weren't fully cooked. I spent a few minutes plucking all the onions out. My friend had the Famous Fried Rice Omelet. He barely ate half of it because the fried rice was overpowered with oyster sauce. Kim chi on the side was good. Pancakes were supposed to be banana pancakes but I settled for what I had. After searching for a place to grind. I noticed the 4 1/2 stars which got my attention. This establishment is rather small. That says a lot about while In the wall finds. After scrolling the reviews, I went for the Kim chee fried rice omelet. Let me tell you, this omelet is packed. Lots and lots of kimchee. Very flavorful as well. Lol, let me make something clear, this isn't your typical Omlet. This is is more like a fried rice topped with a blanket of egg. I ordered the banana pancakes just because. They lightly fried the banana slices before layering it on the plate. Dish was very flavorful. As the reviews requested and I will have to agree, this dish was very good. My brother and I went last week Friday (9/17) before 9am and there was no one waiting outside ... good, thought we'd score seating... first time there.. no signage as to what to do, so we just entered... not greeted right away perhaps 30 seconds later... saw only 3 booths (1 on left of 2, and the 2nd and 4th on right had seating) that could be seated by customers and only the last seat at counter (of 4) had a customer. Finally she tells us to wait outside .... perhaps about 15 minutes she says... we wait outside... no other customers wait outside only us... After about 20 minutes, we tell ourselves ahh, let's do take out already, so I go back inside. I tell her (even though she saw me again but did not say anything) I like order takeout and she took notice. I ordered the fried rice omelette with pork... saw on board was $11.75, my brother wanted the corn beef egg omelette which was $10.75. Waited for about 15 minutes and she delivers the bag to me and thanks me (with a 'thank you maam ! Must be the mask hiding my full face ? lol) for waiting... my meal was good and flavorful, but I'd think again about paying $11.75 for it ... my brother did not have the nice comments about his corn beef fried rice omelette ... which he felt should cost about in the low $8 range (as it had little of the canned corn beef and his fried rice was slightly hard). I felt my meal should have at the most cost high $9 but not cost more than $10.75 (or a $1 less than sold). I base this on comparison with Elena's own Adobo Fried Rice Omelette that is priced at the same $11.75. which fills out the entire bottom of the container. Yeah, the inside does look worn and from the 90s or 80s... After looking at the menu again and seeing the Loco Moco Deluxe being sold at $9.95, I felt that would have been a much greater value ! I dunno.. Didn't look like they were smashed with orders as there wasn't a lot of people coming to pick up orders (only had 1 local sista who walked in the whole time we were outside waiting and wondered how come she got to remain in for a LONG time). Unassuming hole in wall eatery in Waipahu. Had my car being serviced nearby so walked over to get a bite for breakfast. Old style booth seating and counter seats. Place was clean and got a table right away with hot coffee and water. Scoped out the menu and got the mushroom omelette with rice and side of kim chee. Portion of omelette was big and not oily with ample portion of rice and the accompanying kim chee just made it complete for me. Found out it was homemade kind which I loved right away from the first taste. Folks were very attentive and friendly. Its a small quaint place just around corner from Pacific Market. Opens for breakfast and lunch closing at 2 pm. Gets crowded on weekends. So this midweek breakfast was especially nice with no crowds to rush through my breakfast for. Protect mama at all costs! I love this cafe. My boyfriend and I come here all the time and it's usually staffed by mama, her son, and maybe one other lady cooking. It's such a small place ran by only three people so when it's busy food does take longer but that's to be expected especially when a lot of people call in orders too. Honestly worth the wait if you have the time. Kimchee fried rice omelet is my go to but sometimes I'll get the tofu soup or mandoo plate. They work really hard here and are always so welcoming. And if you ask she will add some ono Kim chee too (this is homemade, very tasty!)......as usual I cannot finish my entire breakfast so I shared the fried rice with my hubby n took the rest home for a midnight snack! Btw coffee is good...not like the famous chain...but ono just how I like it!! Our tummies are full and we are happy....so we can enjoy the rest of the day!!!! As for me one of the positives of coming to Waipahu Cafe...is that it is near Savers Waipahu....bargain hunters beware!! They're loaded up with Halloween costumes n Christmas items ....Already!!! Decided that we wanted to eat something simple for lunch one day and since we're heading in the Waipahu area, we figured we would stop by Waipahu Café. We have eaten here before and the food is always consistent and tasty. It is a small mom and pop hole in the wall establishment that has a Korean-based menu along with breakfast items. The service is good and the atmosphere is cozy since it is an old establishment with only four tables in it and a counter. I normally love this place, but just recently I came here and ordered 3 piece blueberry pancakes and a fried rice omelette. I called to notify them because they gave me someone else's order and she told me she could replace one of the two ordered. Mind you the 2 I ordered was only supposed to be $25.11 I was charged for someone else's order which was $31.50. An almost $7 dollar difference in price. Of course I'm upset. How ridiculous is that. I'm told too bad the money is done you already took the food. As a company if that's your mistake you guys should make it right. Terrible service by the Korean lady. The Korean guy who's normally there is always really nice. But that lady made me upset!! I'm never going back there. Not gonna lie I like Rocky' better but Waipahu cafe is a good contender. Just like Rocky's, pretty local and no frill. I ordered anytime breakfast with kimchi fried rice, sunny side eggs and portuguese sausage. When it came out, it was golden shine...perfectly cooked sunny side and portuguese sausage and big portion of fried rice. I sure enjoyed it a lot! My husband's combination lunch plate was okay. Garlic chicken was good but didn't really have garlic sauce on them. Meat jun was not good in my opinion....kinda gooey and bit smelled. Mac salad was awesome! What I liked better about Waipahu cafe than Rocky's are ample parking and better price/portion. My fried rice was good for two meals. At Rocky's, I finished it all. One turn-off was a little piece of hair in the free kimchi. It is just two ladies working here, one mainly cooking and the other taking orders. The lady never came back to check on us and took a while to notice that we needed a check, but no problem. We weren't in a rush. I definitely wanna come back and try their hot cakes next time. I saw the pictures of the kimchi fried rice and said this is the place. I love the fact that you can order a side of pretty much anything. The Kimchi fried rice waa flavorful bit surprisingly not spicy. Nonetheless I loved it! The hash was flavorful with a nice outside crust. My husband was happy to see that they served local plates in addition to breakfast food daily. He ordered the pork katsu meat jun combo. It was good. Everything was seasoned nicely but I thing the pork was a little tough and the meat jun was egg heavy, not enough meat. I will be back to try some other items from there Local/Korean style menu. The chili was just canned tomatoes and canned mixed vegetables all mixed together. We couldn't eat it. The kimchi fried rice had a sweet taste and was odd I didn't eat much of it. My daughter had over easy eggs and she also said the eggs taste gross. I guess this place has new owners and the food isn't the same as it was before. Ordered takeout for 3 breakfast plates at 945am. Waited outside for 45 min with no response from the owners inside. We checked in at 1035am and the female owner says 45 more min. At this point it is ridiculous to communicate this way with customers. I tried to give this local business a try. No apology to us at all. The Korean lady has a terrible attitude. Literally RAISE my hand because we need another fork and she walks right past me talking to another table and never returns. My husband tries to get her attention and she does The same thing. He finally stops her and asks her for a fork and she goes "you have forks right there!" I step in and say "Yeah and theres five Of us, but only four forks!" I will never come back here. And their Kim Chee Fried Rice is too salty and food takes long to come to The table.
