Recently came across this place whole getting my windows tinted at flawless tinting up the road. Nice little spot with an old school diner feel. You just walk in and have a seat and someone comes to you and takes your order. You can see the food cooking as the grill is right past the counter. My first time I just went with breakfast, pancakes, eggs and bacon. Pretty standard, service was good and so was the food. On the weekend I had to come back and try thier fried rice omelet with a take out order. Called just before I left and it was hot off the grill when I got there. Love getting breakfast here since they open at 6 am and other places in Waipahu open later. They are known for their fried rice and I love their Famous Fried Rice but I sometimes get the beef fried rice which is also very good. We are loyal customers so we came here to support. Today (8/18/24), we ordered saimin, corned beef omelette and shrimp omelette with fried rice. The fried rice was hard I thought it was uncooked but it feels just hard it's hard to bite. I wasn't going to say anything because I thought maybe just some parts are better but as I go through the rest the entire rice was hard. It was hard to eat so I ended up not eating it. I've been here before and I've had better rice not this hard. So Korean lady (owner maybe) comes over asking if I wanted to take home the rice I said no I won't eat it because it's hard. She looked at me and said "so what do you want me to do with it throw it away?" She said their fried rice is like that it's hard. I wanted to argue but I kept my cool thinking she's the owner she should at least apologize or something but she walked away with it and had the audacity to call me out behind the counter showing me that she's eating it and it's fine. I said okay but I've had better fried rice before not that hard it's hard to chew. A few minutes after she comes over gives me a matcha cookie as peace offering, I guess. I had the breakfast special with scrambled eggs and Portuguese sausage, and blueberry pancakes. It's a little mom and pop shop and many locals come here regularly. They claim that they have a famous fried rice omelette and also Kim Chee omelette. All I can say is that the blueberry pancakes was perfect. Fresh blueberries and just the right sponginess for me. This hidden gem has very limited seating and the menu is typical of a cafe. I really enjoyed having something which is not adjusted for tourism and is authentic local cooking. This place has been around and under new ownership for quite a few years now. Mostly Korean food, but many local foods too. This is a great place for breakfast, and they make the best fried rice! They are famous for their fried rice omelets! I mostly come here for a nice, hearty breakfast, and always, always, always, get some form of fried rice when I do! Firstly, lots of parking! It's located in a small strip mall with stores like Pacific Market and Savers, a laundromat, some offices, and a bunch of other restaurants such as Max's at Manila. Due to the pandemic, they blocked off every other seat inside, but we usually can get a seat without too much wait. Next up, fried rice. Every order of their fried rice is made to order. Every one! All of their food is delicious, just like home. Their cashier is efficient in taking walk in orders and taking care of those who are dining in. Eating booths are very limited due to COVID. Although they are extremely busy, you're not made to feel like you're a bother to place a take out order and wait outside. Telephone take out orders are probably best if you're in a hurry. This is our weekend go to when we want a simple breakfast. Unfortunately we ordered what we thought we wanted rather than what we really wanted. My husband got his typical Denver without tomatoes and I got a banana pancake meal with luncheon meat and egg. What we should have ordered was eggs, bacon, and hash brown for the husband and kim chee fried rice, luncheon meat, and eggs for me. The pancake and omelet were good by themselves, but after we started eating we realized we really have the other stuff instead. The ajumma that works there is always so kind and attentive. They have limited seating and we were lucky enough to get some seats. It was non-stop take out as well. Looks like this place has been here for a while but I've never noticed it until my bf suggested it for breakfast. Apparently they are always busy and it was no different as we walked in and had to wait a few minutes for a free table. There are a lot of breakfast choices and even local plate selections but I was pretty much set on my order of the breakfast special: two hot cakes, eggs & choice of meat. I chose to get scrambled eggs with bacon. For under $10 ($8.95) that is a good deal. It's always satisfying to be able to eat a hearty (but not too much) savory breakfast and end it with the sweet taste of maple-doused fluffy pancakes. Some places stuff you to the point of almost-regret but Waipahu Cafe serves good portions for one that does not do well with buffets and heavy plates. Staff are friendly and work pretty hard - I counted only three of them running the place! The place could use an upgrade (looks and cleanliness wise) and I would suggest using the bathroom elsewhere before heading here...that wasn't such a pleasant experience. By far, the BEST kimchee fried rice I've ever had. I'm an LA native who would frequent Koreatown back in the day and was also stationed in Korea for a year, so I know my Korean food pretty well. Waipahu cafe is hands down has the most delicious kimchee fried rice. So moist and flavorful, yet very simple and maintains that good 'ol homecook vibe. The restaurant can be easily missed as its your typical hole in a wall/plaza spot. We all know that the best food are usually hidden within these sketchy locations. Indoor dine-in can be tight on a busy weekend breakfast, but the food is worth it. We usually go there past the breakfast rush at around 1000ish to avoid the crowd. Lastly, not only are the food are awesome but also the staff. The Korean aunty there is one of my favorite people on island! She's always very welcoming and happy to greet us. We've been going here every weekend for almost 6mos now, and she always greets us like a damily member she hasnt seen in years. My toddler son loves her and always gives him a small treat. This place is your quintessential hole-in-the-wall establishment. It's not pretty. The decor is old diner. But I don't come here for the look at the place. I'm here for some really good Korean goodies made by two sweet elder Korean women whom run this place themselves. My absolute favorite combo is their kalbi and spicy pork. Yes. I eat it for breakfast. Who said you have to eat "breakfast foods" for breakfast? They have their combos on their "local anytime food" (right side of the menu), which I absolutely love bc where else are you going to get kalbi at 9am?? Definitely my go to place any time I'm jonesing for some kalbi. Their meats are all so very well flavored and cooked to perfection so that they are tender and not ever overcooked and dried out. And I have to admit, as someone who usually doesn't like to eat mac salad, their mac salad is the bomb. Its flavorful and doesn't just feel and taste like I'm sloshing around mayo covered macaroni in my mouth. They are known for their fried rice, which is also good. Other things I've had off the anytime menu are: mochiko chicken, garlic chicken, and meat jun. I have yet to meet a dish I didn't like from here. Their breakfast items are also good. Pancakes and wonderfully fluffy. But you can't really mess up breakfast. Really good Korean food, however, is hard to find on this side of the island. This place is cash only. Everything is well priced and portions are substantial. The combo plate is two meals for me. I'll eat half there and the other half I'll pack for lunch. And its still tender and yummy having been refridgerated and reheated. The only part that makes me sad is they are only open 6a to 2p. Seating is quite limited to a few booths and like 4 stools at the counter. But I've always gone on a weekday during non breakfast rush hours so I've not had to wait long at all. Cruising around after an early appointment, looking for some place for breakfast prior to hitting Pearlridge for my last minute shop stops, I hit the Yelp search and this little cafe popped up. Tiny! Think Ray's Cafe size. Six four person booths and a little counter bar for maybe three or four. Two little ladies cooking, taking orders, serving and cashiering. Busy little place. A lot of take out going on too. Every booth was filled by the time we got our food which was actually pretty fast. Quite a menu for breakfast and lunch, eggs and breakfast meats, fried rice and noodles, omelets, pancakes, soups, burgers, sandwiches, plate lunches and a number of Korean items. HB was his usual Loco Moco deemed three stars and under seven dollars. $1 for a nice mug of decent coffee with refills better and than most breakfast places. I selected the Hot Koo Soo which I truly enjoyed. The server gave me a small dish of hot sauce to add and it gave a kick to the soup. I also enjoyed the Kimchee served on the side. Not hot but very flavorful. One of their specials must be the Kimchee fried rice omelet because someone at nearly every table ordered it. The cafe is only open 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM and is cash only. Definately a hole in the wall, next to a laundry and it looks like people are hanging around but they a just waiting for their clothes to dry. Parking is abundant and they are cash only. Yes! I'm pretty honored to have stumbled upon this little cafe this morning! It's right in that lot with savers, rent a center, that laundromat, etc. It is small, but when we arrived, there were 3 seats at front counter available. Yay! I ordered the A. Which came with: 2 eggs, choice of meat, rice (fried rice/Kim chee fried rice is an additional charge; I got fried rice), and has brown (option to get toast too). The hubs got a loco moco fried rice, and my kid-baby got french toast. My breakfast was EXCELLENT. Down to my over easy egg running all over my tasty ass fried rice. Bacon was crispy just how i like it. The burger in the loco moco wasn't one of those cheap burgers; you could tell. It was juicy and the BOMB. My son said his french toast tasted better than mine, not happy about that, but good for Waipahu Cafe. I must say! With only 4 workers, and every table full, and people coming in to pick up phone orders, these workers got a system that works! I did give four stars because my poor hash brown was sitting in the oil, and I'm pretty sure they forgot about it; they still served it! Hard, dark, and super oily. I still ate it though. While browsing Yelp for a good breakfast place in Waipahu this place caught my eye because the prices were good and the reviews were good. Turned out to be a gem. What I noticed while waiting for our breakfast was that the Kim Chee fried rice seemed to be the dish to order because I seen a lot of it being served to the other diners. Looked like the fried rice portion would be enough for me and my wife. Well, my wife ordered the Portuguese sausage breakfast which was perfectly cooked and very affordable at $6.95. I ordered the spicy pork lunch plate that was really delicious. The pork was tender and juicy and had enough spice to it. It came with homemade Kim Chee that we really enjoyed so I am intent on returning for their Kim Chee fried rice omelet. The portions here a huge, prices are reasonable, and the food is good. I had the Loco Moco dlx and my wife had the Kim Chee soup. While it's kinda hard to mess up loco Moco, I liked the gravy. The dish was less greasy and gravy more savory than Rainbow Drive In. Even if their food was mediocre, I'd still support this business because ahjumma working the front got my back. My husband and I go here frequently when he has a day off. Went here around 10 on Saturday morning. Tucked in a corner of a small shopping complex. Ample parking. Server was nice, but forgot to give us silverware. I can't remember the last time that's happened. Also, didn't take our check, so we just left money and left. The server said that they were known for their fried rice omelets. I wasn't feeling like an omelet, but she mentioned that the hamburger patties were homemade, so I got the loco loco with gravy on the side. Great choice. The patty was tasty and well seasoned.
