I have been a frequent customer since the restaurant opened. Frequently coming in groups of 3-6. Tonight a party of 4. They were out if Prine Rib, baked potatoes, brussel sprouts. They have limited side options so 2 if us asked to substitute the brussel sprouts for a side salad. This is after the water came back twice to tell us there out of what we ordered. The waiter said he couldn't. We asked for a manager and asked to substitute and said then a $3.00 additional charge. Our option was cole slaw. 2 of us said we don't like cole slaw, can we please just substitute the side salad since you are out of the 2 sides we wanted. The manager stated "I can't give easy free food". The managers body language and demeanor made it clear they were not looking to accommodate us. I then asked for the owner. I was told he was busy in the back. I said I'd wait. Nothing. I returned to the table where we all decided to cancel our orders and leave. Just before we left I saw one of the owners. I explained what had happened and said a manager should be empowered and capable of saying "I'm sorry about that, let me make that right for you". The owner said he would not speak to the manager then, but might later. He offered I'm sorry. I told him of my years of patronage and gave another opportunity to make it right, he did not. All over two $3 salads in place of a baked potato and brussel sprouts that they were out of. So it was worth canceling 4 meals and losing a long time customer over. Dare I say this is the best restaurant in walker? Why yes, yes, I do! From the bang Thai shrimp app, to the southwest chicken (I substitute the chicken for salmon) salad, to the salmon entree-- it's all to die for! The main room/ bar is cozy, dark atmosphere, with gorgeous wood throughout. Comfy fireplace room, nice for intimate dinners. Open "porch" like room, spacious for the family and kids. Very accommodating. Has a special menu for those with gluten allergies as well. read more

We went to the Walker Roadhouse for my birthday, because I wanted Prime Rib and my wife wanted something other. We were seated promptly, but waited about 5 minutes for our server to drop by. She was friendly, and there were clearly two other tables with more than 4 people that se was serving, so I assumed it was just a fluke that took so long to take our drink order. It was no fluke. I think her name was Angela, and she either new at this, or just not good at it. I had to ask her for refills on drinks a few times, she served a lady who'd come in after us well before we got our food, and remember, this was Prime Rib. It's already cooked, they just cut it off and slap it on the plate with the cold "Steamed Broccoli" and fries. My wife really enjoyed her salmon and I really enjoyed my Prime Rib, but I'd asked for the straight horseradish and got the creamed. When it came time for the bill, we couldn't find her so we asked the hostess to get it for us. Angela came by, dropped the bill on the table and vanished. I put my credit card in the little tin the bill came in and again waited long enough to get upset enough to ask the hostess if there was a place we should pay. She went and fetched Angela, who took the bill and put it in her apron pocket, went to take the order from a large family, then went around the corner to another table to help them before bringing my card back. I thought I got good value on the food, even though the broccoli wasn't cooked through and was cold. But the service was poor. No manager stopped by our table to check on things, there was no mention of the birthday cake we brought in (since I am gluten intolerant and they don't have gluten free cake), and we had to send out search parties to find our server. I'm usually good for at least 20% on a tip, more for stellar service, but I couldn't bring myself to leave more than 15%. I almost asked to speak with a manager, but my wife wanted to get home, so we left less than satisfied. read more

The wife and I have been to WR several times in the past and twice in the last month. We really enjoy the Mediterranean Muscle appetizer, and our main course meals are always enjoyable. The most recent visit we arrived on a Saturday night at 6:30 and were promptly seated. Second time for prompt seating as the large lines waiting for seating before the shut down have all but vanished! After a few minutes our server showed up to take our drink order. On giving her our drink order, she immediately asked if we were ready to order, to which I replied that we drove all the way from Rockford and I wasn't looking to get the "bums rush"! Well she immediately showed through her body language and the scowl on her face that she was pissed with my comment. Probably because of her lack of server experience she didn't understand it. On bringing our drinks she again asked if we were ready to order, to which I replied yes, an appetizer of the Mediterranean Muscles. I then leaned to my wife after the server left and asked her to look over at the hostess stand to see if there was a line of people waiting to be seated? She replied there was no one waiting to be seated at 6:45 p.m., pretty dead for a Saturday night. So needless to say we did make it through our appetizer. The server in the meantime must have asked someone what the "bums rush" meant as she loosened up by the time the main dinner was ordered and served. Now I realize that restaurants are having a hard time finding experienced help, let alone customers willing to jump through distancing and mask hoops, but they have to train their staff not to apply the rush. People have been cooped up too long and want to enjoy and evening out when they get the chance! read more

It was packed and clearly very well liked among those living in the area. This is very near my home and although I like the fireplace and general atmosphere ( it actually feels like a sports bar) it is always way too loud to hear yourself when you're trying to have a conversation with someone across the table. I do have a favorite though, which is the mussels in wine sauce; it's classified as an appetizer but I find it's enough for an entree and I have a hard time ordering anything else because it is so good! Always busy so that makes me happy. If they had faster service, reservations and/or more vegetarian options we would likely eat here more often as it is in our neighborhood; from what it looks like they do meat things well. It just seems limited in scope for a variety of dietary preferences so we go elsewhere. If you are a veg not yet sick of just salad....snag the seasonal salad it is a decent dish....but most everything else has a healthy dose of bacon in, on or around it. So I go, since my husband actually had an opinion on a food place! Guess what? It was seriously awesome. Lived in the Grand Rapids area for 7 months now and I have to say this is one of the top two places I have eaten at. Good food, good value for the money, good mixed drinks, great service. It all adds up to 5 stars. Yes, it was that good. And thanks to another yelper my husband tried the turkey sandwich on the pretzel roll. With his mouth half full he said, "This is the best turkey sandwich I have ever had in my 47 years". That says it all. read more

Went here tonight with part of my family for my Mom's birthday. Not too bad of a restaurant. It isn't as big on the inside as it is on the outside. I ended up getting the fried perch dinner which was decent at best. Nothing to rave about but I can't rant about it either. The meal also consisted of french fries and coleslaw but there were other side items to choose from. The waitress was friendly and efficient. Only complaint I have was when towards the end she refilled my glass with water less than half way and then ran out, then said she would go and get more water and never ended up getting me more water. Instead it's like she purposely acted like it was alright and not that big of a deal to refill my glass fully. That was enough to change my view slightly about her being friendly. They were busy when we got there so we had to wait ten minutes before getting a table. All in all it's another restaurant I wouldn't be dying to go back to. Tomorrow will be going on three days and they still haven't replied to my e-mail. They probably took one look at it and decided my complaint wasn't that important and deleted it. I always thought businesses should be more concerned about losing new customers than regulars but none of this looks like it applies to Walker Roadhouse. Customer complaints evidently aren't taken seriously and into consideration. Update: I did get a reply to my e-mail from the general manager saying she was sorry and that she would address the server about it once I gave her information to find out who waited on me. I gave her the information and it's been about a week and a half and no response back letting me know if she's talked to the waitress about it. I appreciated the apology but letting me know she talked to the waitress about the problem would confirm it's been taken care of and won't happen again. read more

Excellent neighborhood restaurant with easy free parking. Our favorite appetizer is their Cheddar Pretzels and our favorite entrees are Lemon Artichoke Mahi Mahi and the Lake Perch. Their drinks are very good as well. Since moving on the West Side of Grand Rapids, we now always take our house guests there as we can be assured they will get a great tasting meal. They have a nice Gluten Free menu with rolls! So for me that means stars! The chicken Gouda sandwich was even tasty. Only thing is its really tiny. Went there on a Saturday night and it was loud and packed. Loud with music and people. I felt like I was at a downtown bar more then a restaurant. Wine list isn't that good and its mainly out of state and your basic wines. Its good and I will go back only b.c. of the gluten free but I will try to avoid the Saturday late crowd. read more

Decent food, but it's what I'd call Midwest supper club fare. Gigantic portions, lots of traditional comfort food (like meatloaf, prime rib, chicken) and some attempts at diversity that depend heavily on sugar. My husband's medium rare prime rib was partially shy of rare on one end, the garlic mashed potatoes were amazing, and the "Korean" BBQ pork chops were such huge slabs of meat they required a platter. When I say "Korean", I mean that their version of the traditional sauce was more like light teriyaki. Each chop was 1.5" thick and between the two chops, it was literally enough to feed a family of five. We'll split the leftovers tomorrow and still have a lunch serving left. read more

Best fish and chips I have found in the Grand Rapids area. The lightly battered perch is delicious, the tartar sauce is unique and the chips a.k.a. French fries are prepared perfectly. The only reason I gave them 3 stars instead of 4 is their choice of catsup. They use an off brand that you expect to find at a cheap buffet. In my opinion nothing beats the flavor of Heinz, Heinz, Heinz!!! They use Heinz malt and vinegar for the fish and chips, why not use Heinz catsup? read more

My wife and I went for an early dinner on a Saturday. She had the perch, I had the herb-crusted whitefish. Both were fantastic. The perch was also an excellent value.
