Located in the bottom of the Marriott hotel, the restaurant is in a prime location and has a solid menu. Options suitable for a meat and potato lover and your every day vegan. The setting was stark and broad - you definitely aren't sitting on top of the table next to you, which is a nice change. I got the Brussels (no bacon) to start and they were yummy. Squeeze the grilled lemon over them it adds a charred tart zing to the bite. My entree was the cauliflower steak. IT WAS HUGE. I was starving and couldn't finish half. The cauliflower was a thick slice and grilled to a tender perfection. The bean and veggie bed it laid on was subtle, yet just enough Flavor to make this meal balanced. One thing that I loved about WSK was the music. We heard everything from Baby got Back to Despacito while dining. It felt odd, yet good. Enjoy! read more

Wait staff was very short almost to the point of being rude, but more that she didn't actually understand as if she didn't comprehend English. Drinks were left off the order even after asking for them a second time. At a table of 8 we had to ask several different people for water refills. Overall the place was slow, but some how the table who got seated after us got drinks ordered and delivered before we did from the same waitress that we had. (Just to show how little attention we got) Food was sort on options but pretty good on flavor when actually delivered. When asked to slit the orders we gave specific and very easy instructions for doing so and every receipt was still incorrect!! Over all a very poor experience and an unhappy customer who will likely never come back for the food and Never for the service. read more

Usually, I feel like hotel food is not too impressive and overly priced. However, Walker Street Kitchen is the exception. The food had great flavor and the service was on point. I did not struggle to get a seat for lunch, even though the hotel was packed for a conference. I got the chicken fried chicken with the soup of the day, which was broccoli and cheese (best I've ever had for sure). I'll come back again. read more

I stayed at the Marquis for my birthday and I did eat at 3 of the restaurants / lounge that were on the property. This was one of them. I did go online first to look at the menu however it the menu had changed at the restaurant. I wanted to try the fried green tomatoes. It was my birthday they gave me a complimentary glass of white wine! I ordered the deviled eggs. They were delicious. Great food very friendly staff. I would definitely return. read more

This is a somewhat typical restaurant for a large hotel (inside the Marriott). We were in town for a convention for one week so we came to this restaurant each morning. We typically ordered the buffet, but sometimes, we order off the regular menu. Off the regular menu, we loved the crispy French toast. Everything was tasty and of good quality. Our servers were always friendly and service was quick. One day, the lunch at the convention center was really messed up, so we left and came here for lunch. I had a delicious BLT. Again, service was quick and friendly and we were soon on our way back to the convention. read more

The Farmers Omelette seemed more like a scramble. I was at the Marriott for a Luncheon, yet a few friends wanted to meet up early for breakfast and catch up. Came in here, love the couches up front where you can wait or enjoy a coffee. We moved to the back and our waitress was lovely, although I think we forgot to ask water. With the amount of people they brought us a pot of coffee which I'm glad for because I'd had a bit too much adult beverages the evening before. read more

So today is my birthday of all days and my mother wanted to surprise me with a nice posh dinner at Walker Street Kitchen. After catching two trains and walking the streets of downtown we arrived at 5:15 to find the place looking like a ghost town. To ensure that we were not out of our minds we checked the hours online and they reopened for dinner hours at 4-9pm. Still in disbelief I even called the Marriott and the receptionist was not aware they were closed and could not find a reason why they were. Well shame on you Walker Street Kitchen! I had a burger w/ fires and corn fritters for an app. The corn fritters I thought were great. One of the guys I was with went on to say his meal was one of the best he's ever had. Nesteled inside Marriot Hotel. The service was fast and we were seated quickly. We had Ceviche for our appetizers. The flavors were so good. Hint if sweet and spice and that acidic taste. My roomate and I had he deviled eggs with bacon marmalade. The flavors of the bacon itself took it out the park. The ahi tuna taco came out next, fixed in a wonton taco, also delicious flavors that worked well. Last appetizer was the ahi tuna steak salad. Again the flavors just mixed well with the vinegrete that they used. By the time the entree came out we were full. I can't believe they charge $6 for coffee. WTF. Other than that, my carnitas brunch was delicious. I wanted 4 more servings. Although that's tough when it's $16-$20 a plate. This is a southern coastal cuisine restaurant located inside the Marriott Marquis right across from Biggio's sports bar. I would have to say the interior decor is pretty understated. Its nice neutral colors and the food was Ok. Recommend the deviled eggs with fried oysters which were breaded and fried properly. Ordered the baby kale salad with the citrus dressing which was good, but the added chicken breast for $6 was really bad. The chicken breast piece was not fresh, very dry, cold and basically as palatable as a piece of cardboard. Our waitress was kind enough to remove that cost from the bill. I also tried the gumbo my work colleague which was tasty with the exception of the small square block of farro they pour the gumbo sauce on. I'd rather have the farro evenly distributed with the gumbo. I have to say overall experience and impression was nothing special. This place will be challenged with all the other up and coming restaurants that will be opening in the next month or so. read more

Extremely poor experience for our table of 9 on 8/3 at lunch. We got the free buffet for three of the children which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1 star. The buffet items looked pretty good however they offer omelets, waffles, and pancakes as part of their buffet and two of the guest with us ordered from the fresh made items and it never came out until we were leaving when we said that we've been waiting 50 minutes for food(they were reminded twice as we were sitting also well before we left). I ordered, my husband, and my ten year old daughter. Again, 50 minutes had passed just like the others and we had to get it to go because the conference I was attending had already started back up and we were late. When I got to the Texas ballroom and opened my food along with the other guest with the omelette and waffle; my order was wrong and inedible. I tried to force down two bites but couldn't anymore. It was so upsetting. I got the brisket plate but asked to sub potatoes instead of chips. So, when I opened and it had chips that had to sit in a carry out box with egg on top and wet brisket everything was a soggy disgusting glob. There was no attempt by management or the server to rectify it. I still left a good tip as did the other paying guest but now that I've waisted $46 on food that wasn't good because of the many variables of being so incredibly long, I wouldn't recommend anyone go unless you're going for the buffet but even then I don't think it is worth it if you can't get the omelets or waffles in a timely manner. By the way, my daughters fries were burnt tasting and had that old oil flavor. My husband said his angus burger was nothing special. The other guest didn't like her omelet but loved the waffle. I wanted to like this place because the three young children greatly enjoyed the buffet which was loaded with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, eggs, cereal, cheese, muffins, etc. If you have several young children this would be a good option but keep checking on your food and if you get a carry out check it before you leave. read more

We shared two meals, dinner and breakfast with the staff at the Walker Street kitchen. We were seated quickly, served very nicely, and enjoyed very high quality food - excellently prepared. The concierge and waitstaff provided both guidance on our selections and constant, pleasant and professional attention. We highly recommend this restaurant for both service and food quality. Our dinner was straight off a nice but not excessive menu (focus on quality, not quantity!) We led off with the Boudin Corn Fritters - delightful morsels of corn fritter, rich and well seasoned. My chosen entrèe was a delectable chicken-fried chicken on a bed of whipped potatoes, braised baby green beans and a well-turned-out country gravy. My wife declared her order of shrimp and grits to be among the very best she's had. Her shrimp were good-sized gulf shrimp sided with cilantro, ham-hock nage, and properly cooked and seasoned grits. We split a fine banana pudding cheesecake adorned with fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries for dessert. Again perfectly balanced, not cloying or excessively dense - just right. Breakfast the next morning was simpler, I had their broken yoke sandwich with bacon and cheddar on toasted sourdough (with a side of hash browns), while my wife enjoyed the Farmers omelet - bacon, potatoes, mushrooms, aged cheddar and hash browns. The servings were of course Texas-sized, so we walked a fair bit to justify the copious consumption. Everything done right, tasty and most certainly filling for a busy day. I have enjoyed this place in the past for breakfast, looks like they just don't give a damn any more. Came today and was told a 25 minute wait, lots of bitter people waiting. Half the tables in the place were unoccupied just not bussed. Did not notice anybody making any effort to clear the tables. All staff just moving at a snail's pace just making their salary no hustle whatsoever. Definitely left lots of money on the table lots of people just walked away. Stopped in for a light bite with my mom and sister on a Saturday afternoon, yesterday. The staff was unprofessional and lacking. I ordered the lunch combo and it was VERY lacking, their brunch menu was unavailable due to "reorganizing". I visited Walker Street Kitchen yesterday and should have read through the reviews a bit more. When we arrived, the restaurant was pretty sparse for a Sunday afternoon. We were quickly seated and given an option of the buffet (includes juice, coffee and omelet station), breakfast menu or brunch menu. My mom and I both chose the buffet option because of the omelet and coffee (22 bucks). Once we got back to the buffet area, we were very disappointed with the options. It was a very basic continental breakfast spread (bagels, toast, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, fruits and cereal). For the price we shouldn't have been surprised, but given the environment, we expected higher quality. The main reason I am only giving three starts is because of the service we received when requesting our omelet. We asked a chef standing near the front of the buffet about the omelet options, she said "what do you want, were about to close". We asked what are the options and she said "you're supposed to do this with your waiter but since were about to close just tell me what you want I can hurry and make it". I opted not to even order because I wasn't sure of the options and would rather spend my time watching my bagel go through the toaster. My mom ended up getting an omelet and it was pretty good. The home of the $21.00 Bloody Mary. Why, you ask? Are they distilling their own craft vodka or juicing heirloom cherry tomatoes by hand? Maybe giving you a gold straw or a take home glass that immediately gets donated to the Goodwill? Nope. It's because "they don't have a button that makes your drink a double". So you get one drink, that someone made once with a jug of pre-made Mary mix, one garnish, an extra ounce of vodka and you are charged for two drinks. The service was as bad as their math skills. The manager did not appear to be supporting the very busy staff this morning, and we waited over 5 minutes for someone to even greet us after being seated. I wish I could give 0 stars. We went for the Sunday brunch. The quality of the food was just average. We ordered a waffle and it took 30 minutes to arrive. We ordered a double espresso and it took 20 minutes to arrive. As an elite Marriott member, I had a voucher for a $10 food and beverage credit. When it came time to pay the bill, the waiter told me that I couldn't use it for my screwdriver. I read the terms and conditions on the back of the voucher and found that it did not mention anything about not being valid for alcohol. I asked the hostess. My husband and I stayed at the Marquis for a couple of days to celebrate our wedding. We came down to Walker Street for brunch, and enjoyed every second of our time there. The food was great, and the service was amazing. The server made sure that we knew of their specials and options for brunch. Even gave us a round of mimosas to celebrate our wedding! I absolutely loved this place. I was in Houston for a conference & I went twice; once for breakfast and once for lunch. For breakfast, I had the all American breakfast. It was SO. GOOD. The coffee was delicious. I didn't have to add anything to my meal, no salt or pepper. The roasted tomato that came with it...left me speechless. Lunch was a turkey club and oh man, that herb mayo is the bomb! It was out of this world. The service wasn't bad but could have been much better. I found myself having to flag down others for a refill of coffee or water. The ladies at the front were so welcoming and warm, it was so nice! Oscar was my waiter and he was superb. I had the buffet so Oscar suggested I get an omelet. He gave me a little card and I wrote what I wanted: egg white, chorizo , sweet peppers, jalapeño, and goat cheese. BEST omelette I have ever had hands down. The decor was soothing when we arrived for dinner and we were seated right away. Barely anyone in the restaurant which was a little concerning at first. Our waitress was exceptional and wanted to do everything she could to meet our needs. They brought out a tasty brioche bread and Cajun butter and took our drink order. The beer and wine selection was a mix of interesting and unique selections . They even had a Gose and lambic on the menu. We ordered the brussel sprouts with pork belly. I was a little disappointed that the pork belly was just bacon, but our sever prepared us so it wasn't a surprise. We also ordered the shrimp and grits. These were amazing! So fresh and comforting. Some girlfriends and I stayed at the hotel for a fun girls weekend downtown. We decided to grab breakfast on Sunday in the hotel at Walker Street before we checked out... and were pretty disappointed. First off, we asked if we could order off of the menu but were told that the brunch menu didn't start until 10 (it was 9) and that we could only eat at the buffet. Okay, fair enough, we got food from the buffet and started eating. And then a few minutes later we noticed that the table to the left of us was ordering off of a menu.... and then a few minutes later the table on the right received waffles (waffles were not in the buffet and had to be ordered off of a menu). Literally within 15 minutes of us asking about a menu! Not cool. The waitress showed up once more when two friends joined us to get their drinks and then disappeared until she brought us the checks. Not great service. I would understand if it was busy... yet is was not. Buffet was not horrible but not $22/person worth either. Eggs, bacon/sausage, biscuits/gravy and potatoes were in warmers then they had a fruit and yogurt area, bagels and lochs area, and breads and cereal galore! A+ for selection but the food wasn't anything extraordinary. Standard hotel fare. Pros: Cute place (restaurant design was on point) and it's convenient if you're staying in the hotel. Cons: Everything else! Food was boring, service was horrible and brunch cost wasn't even close to worth it. read more
