So I ended up at Walker Street Kitchen out of hunger necessity. I was headed to the GRB for a trade show but didn't realize how screwed up the traffic was due to construction and the World Cup. I could not get to the little place I like to get breakfast tacos so I turned to Yelp for some assistance. WSK popped up and it was across the street from where I was standing , just inside the Marriott. I thought, "this is gonna be expensive". So I. I go inside and get seated. Take a look at the menu and yep, expensive. It as I took a look, I found what I was headed for in the first place - breakfast tacos. And a reasonable price. So that's what I ordered. And I got 3 huge egg, bacon, avocado and chz tacos. Tortillas aren't homemade, but pretty good. I ate 2 and was stuffed. Didn't even get to the taters. Probably the best bang for the buck item on the menu. Total bill with iced tea -$ 20.00. Not bad when the tea was $5.00. read more

Brunch on New Year's Day was amazing! The omelette station , breakfast potatoes and biscuits n gravy were the stars of the show!! They also have bacon, turkey and pork sausage options as well as smoked salmon, pancakes, fruit , oatmeal and all the carbs lol. Muffins, croissants bagels you name it. You can order whatever beverages you want and it's all $30pp. Service was good because they were prepared for the crowds. However in the past they've been understaffed. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star is because the day before they closed early despite the hours posted and told to us by hotel staff. One of the other restaurant managers told us they tend to do that if they feel it may be slow. They should probably mention that so guests are not surprise last minute especially if they don't plan to leave the property. read more

To be honest I didnt like the food. The lobster corndogs werent cooked all the way and even though it was replaced, I was highly skeptical to try it again. The reuben was dry and was stingy on the sauce. Crazy. Anyway, althought the food wasn't exactly knocking my socks off, the menu has promise with minor tweaks and making sure that the seafood is cooked thoroughly. Also the service was phenomenal. The staff were cheerful, attentive, and genuinely made the whole experience feel way better than the food deserved. If Michelin stars were given for kindness and hustle, this crew would have at least five. So while I may not come back for the food I'll remember the good vibes and warm smiles and probably hit the nearest food truck or something. read more

Walker Street Kitchen, for a restaurant in a convention hotel (even one as nice as the Marquis) was surprisingly better than I expected. It was very good, but not quite great. The highlight of the menu for me was the crawfish boudin balls. They were phenomenal and easily one of the best things I have tasted in a long time. Our group ate there two days in a row. On the first day, we split several appetizers, including their deviled eggs, the aforementioned boudin balls and the brussels sprouts. The deviled eggs were quite good. The brussels sprouts were very tasty, with that great charred flavor that comes from oven-roasting, and the crawfish boudin balls were "slap yo' momma" good, as we say in the south. I also had the shrimp and grits. I'm a fan of spicy, but these were almost too spicy. The shrimp were on the smaller scale as well, maybe 31-40 count, and they were slightly overcooked. I would have preferred fewer shrimp, but a better quality and size. Quite frankly, the shrimp and grits I make at home is much better. The second day we ate there, I ordered just the crawfish boudin balls as my entree, they were truly that amazing. The service on the second day was a little spacy though, the server seemed distracted and when he refilled my iced tea, he gave me sweet tea, although I had been drinking unsweetened iced tea. It's the little things like that error that prevented me from giving Walker Street Kitchen 5 stars. Overall, the restaurant is a nice respite from a packed day of endless meetings and walking for what seems like miles through the convention center. read more

Got the Farro Power Bowl with added chicken (personally, for the $17 price tag, chicken should be included). I recently enjoyed a birthday breakfast at this restaurant. I made a reservation a week before and confirmed a couple of days ahead of my reservation. Upon arriving, I was informed that it was buffet style breakfast (which I didn't realize when I make the booking). They escorted me to the my seat (with a window view - which I requested), and got my drinks ready. I think I drank 4 cups of coffee since it was free refills, and let me tell ya, I enjoyed every cup! The buffet included: - bagels - cheesy eggs - assortment of meats (bacon, sausage, links) - muffins - cereal station - omelette station - various types of milks I immediately went straight to the omelette station where the chef was expertly cooking three omelettes at a time. I placed my order and was pleased when it was ready within a couple of minutes. There wasn't much of a line for omelettes since he kept up with the pacing. The very attentive staff brought out mimosas and mini birthday cakes to celebrate the birthday, which was both unexpected and sweet. I'd probably visit again when I'm in the area. read more

This place was cool for a quick brunch. I opted for the buffet but they also offer an a la carte menu. What I appreciated the most is that the breakfast buffet is offered daily and not just on weekends. They have build to order omelettes/eggs and made to order pancakes. They also have your typical breakfast offerings on the buffet such as breakfast meats, potatoes, sausage gravy, breakfast breads, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. I also appreciated that they offered turkey sausage and not just pork products. Coffee, juice, tea, soda etc. are included in the price of the buffet. They also have a bottomless mimosa add on option in you're interested. I LOVE how open and airy this place is, with various types of comfortable seating. If you're staying at the Marriott or close by and looking for a nice brunch option, definitely give them a try. Visited in a Sunday morning. They weren't that busy. Host staff and wait staff was polite. This restaurant is located inside Marriott Marquis downtown. The restaurant was clean. Kids under a certain age (5?) Eat free buffet selection. I ordered the chorizo omelette and it was very good. I looked over the buffet selection and wasn't too impressed. They did have these delicious spicy cheese hash browns though. Otherwise it was traditional food you would expect, runny eggs, sausage links and patties and biscuits and gravy. The biscuits looked a little hard and the cheese selection looked like it had been sitting a while. They also had oatmeal, French toast, and a nice pastry and cereal selection. Overall not as fresh as I'd like it but expected given it's a buffet. The price was $28/adult. If in the area, I'd go again because I like the ambiance and staff was friendly. The table in front of us (we over heard) waited about 15 minutes for their avocado toast. Everything was pretty basic hotel breakfast buffet. Bagels were a little dry, the salmon tasted fishy, and hash browns were a little sad but over all it was okay. I don't think I'd go back though. Also, something that bothered me, the waiter, trying to rush us out, took my friends cutlery off his plate and put it into the table covered in syrup and wouldn't let me put it on my plate. I was worried without a reservation I was going to be screwed but they said they could seat us. So we sit down on a couch and wait. The hostess was nice and cheerful and showed us to a table. My wife suddenly sees a temporary tv setup showing the Astros game. The hostess then recognizes we may want to watch it so she said will setup another table for us. Back to the couch we wait. I guess it was about 5 minutes later she was back to seat us at another table. It was not a two person like the other but 4 person. It was fine where I was getting hungry and did not care. The tv was about 50 inches and could see it fine. Later in the dinner the signal was lost. Others wondered if it would return and kept going off. Turns out they were getting the signal through an internet service and a person working there had to continue rebooting a laptop. For me I pulled out my phone and watched it on YouTube TV until it was back on. We were given water and menus. The menu had a general variety of choices from vegetarian to meat lovers. I ordered the Gulf Red Fish and glass of wine. Relaxed and watched the game with others around. When our food arrived it looked and smelled good. My fish tasted very lightly with hint of lemon which pared up nicely with the wine. Our server came by a couple of times to make sure we were doing well. This place also serves breakfast in the morning but never tried it. Overall it was a good choice to dine here and skip the large crowd. The menu did not have many suitable dishes but the chef accommodated us by preparing a very tasty mixed vegetable/spinach sauté with black beans and their characteristic hash brown round, and a side of avocado with green salsa . I ordered a SMOKED BRISKET HASH, which contains house-smoked brisket, onions, poblano peppers, potatoes, poached cage free eggs, and salsa verde. It was more of a sweet-savory dish. I didn't taste any smokiness to it. The salsa verde added a hint of spice to the dish, but not much, but it still balanced out some of the sweetness. The potatoes were okay. It was more on the dry side, but the sauce helped to coat some of that dryness. The poached eggs was inconsistent. One of my eggs was poached perfectly and was runny when I cut through it and the other egg was dry and becoming a hard boiled egg. Overall, it was okay, nothing spectacular. Arrived on a Friday morning and had the ala carte breakfast with a delicious olmet. The hash brown potatoes were spectacular, On weekends they add an olmet station and serve waffles and pancakes to order. Im a smoked salmon lover and they have a salmon station with whole grain mustard, capers, onions and lemons. Bagels and cream cheese can be found on the bread station. First, half of our table was told the special was a turkey and cheese sandwich by the server, while the other half was told ham and cheese by the host. Some ended up ordering the special and were surprised to see it was indeed ham when they thought it was turkey. It was only so-so. Myself and another friend ordered the burger, which was pretty good. The fries were good too. Another friend ordered the fish sandwich, which she was surprised it was grilled since the menu didn't state that and said it didn't live up to her expectations. The food took SO long to come out we finally asked about it and they blamed a party coming in before us. Every answer they had was an excuse. Popped in for a quick breakfast while traveling. This place is gorgeous with mid century modern furniture and a cool-toned color palette. My food was a really good portion and tasted just right. My waitress Katya was wonderful! I had an 9am appointment 15 mins away. I sat down around 8am and the wait staff promptly walked me through the a la carte menu and the buffet option. Despite on a time crunch, I decided to go for the brisket and potatoes with eggs...because...when in Texas, eat BBQ! While waiting, my waitress Katya chatted with me and refilled my coffee timely. She also offered suggestions on nearby spots for photos, which was really helpful since I had a lot of time to kill later that day. She also offered to get me coffee or water to go as well. I ordered a brisket and potatoes dish with poached eggs and salsa verde. Food came pretty quickly and I was out of the door in 30 mins. It was a huge portion and tasted really good too (see picture)! I probably only ate like half of it...too bad I couldn't get a box to go. I had a great experience overall! We were in town for a volleyball tournament this weekend and really didn't know where to eat. We stumbled upon this restaurant in the hotel we were staying in and we were glad that we did. They sat us immediately and the entire staff that was working was incredibly friendly. I had the avocado toast and it was really good. The selling point for me was the customer service. Our waitress Ashle was amazing. She really paid attention to the details. She noticed that my daughter was wearing a volleyball sweater and immediately started asking questions about her team. She shared stories about her volleyball days and even gave her insight about playing college ball. Coincidentally, she even studied in the medical field which is what my daughter wants to study. We really appreciated her insight. We had a long day playing at the tournament and decided that it was the easiest thing to have dinner here since it was at the hotel and it was really good. We brought our entire team and their parents. Again it didn't disappoint. We got to our room at close to 10pm and to our surprise we walked into and incredible gesture by Ashle. She had sent up a personal note to my daughter with gourmet cookies for her. This made my daughter's day and we were so impressed by her genuine interest in our daughter. We have never had this level of service before. Ashle really went above and beyond for us when she really didn't have to. We were already very pleased with her service at the restaurant and she went out of her way to make our experience that much greater. Thank you Ashle! read more

The buffet was tempting, but we decided on the oatmeal and brisket hash - we were not disappointed! The full spread included the brisket hash, oatmeal, 4 pieces of toast, fresh berries, juice, almond milk, coffee and birthday pancakes from our server (kudos to Arty!). Located inside the Houston Marriott Marquis, this quaint little restaurant offers a nice selection of meals and sandwiches. I wanted a takeout sandwich so I was delighted to see a pastrami offering on the menu. I ordered mine with fries. The hostess that took my order was very friendly and helpful. After assisting with my order she offered me a beverage while I waited, so I had a water. The hostess and another assistant looked pleasant, and friendly even when they were setting up tables.. My order arrived after a few minutes complete with condiments, flatware, and a bag large enough to carry the huge sandwich and generous portion of fries! The sandwich was finger licking tasty! It had a truckload of meat between the marbled rye bread with just the right amount of everything else to round out the sandwich. Freshly made French fries that had the perfect texture and flavor came with my sandwich. The fries had their own container and honestly must have been enough to feed three people! The entire meal could have easily fed two or more people. I could not finish my meal but I wouldn't hesitate to order it again if I had the chance!!! This was a totally satisfying experience from first encounter to the last bite of my sandwich!! I can't wait to visit again!! read more

I was very impressed that they sat me at 8:30, despite the 9:00 closing time. I ordered the shrimp Po'boy on Saturday for dinner. I was a bit concerned about the $16 price, but the sandwich was much larger than I had anticipated. It was actually too much for me to eat. I returned Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for breakfast. Each time I ordered the American breakfast. It comes with eggs, meat, hashbrowns, and bread; as well as unlimited coffee and juice. I believe that the price is $17. Everyone was so friendly, and the majority of the waitstaff was highly attentive. Bre, Marc, and Igor made my trips here especially enjoyable.
