Made reservations via Resy for Friday night at 8:30 and boy were we glad we did. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed and a number of parties were waiting to be seated. We were seated inside about 10 minute after we checked in with the hostess, but we wish we had sat outside since it was so loud. Our waitress recommended ordering between 3 - 4 dishes for just the two of us, so we opted for 4 to try items that sounded good. We chose the Indonesian sate, duck lumpia, banana leaf wrap market fish, and the chashu pork. These were all super flavorful, but our favorites were the chashu pork and duck lumpia. My husband tried their Red Envelope and Jamu cocktails. I thought the Red Envelope tasted better than the Jamu, but he liked them equally. I went here for Valentine's Day and not gonna lie a rat jumped out of one of their plants that are apart of the booths and across the entire left side of the patio where I was eating. The food was more 3.5, but I rounded up. Soooo pricey for the portions ($120 for four dishes, no drinks). They recommend shared plates for the table, 3-6 for a group of 3. We were all stuffed and only ordered 4 (*with rice, see below). Listed in order, with my favorites first: we ordered the Pastel udang, Japanese curry, Kwee Tiauw Goreng with tofu, and duck lumpia, Pastel udang ($18) the puff pastry was tender, flaky, and soaked up the delicious juices of the filling, the bites I got had good amounts of shrimp and pork. It was the size of small a typical square bathroom tile. Japanese curry ($28) is traditionally served with some sort of carb (rice, noodles), and even when we ordered, the waitress recommended rice so disappointing that 1) it's not included and 2) $4 each for two small bowls (0_0). The curry was flavorful and had a good kick to it. Duck lumpia ($22) ordered based on the number of raving Yelp reviews -- the filling was dense, couldn't appreciate any vermicelli noodles. Kwee Tiauw Goreng ($26) with tofu (+$8) Kinda crazy to me that tofu is extra and costs the same price as other meats. A noodle stir-fry. The music was a bit loud and I had to raise my voice at times to have conversation, and the indoor dining room was dark (as you can tell from the pictures, and that's with some filters applied for more visibility). Hip Southeast Asian spot in Venice. Came here with a friend on a Tuesday around 6:30pm and got seated immediately. They do accept reservations but they put a hold on your card. Indoor and outdoor dining available. They have single occupant restrooms available indoors on the left hand side. Street parking. Food-wise, we got three dishes to split between the two of us, and that was a good amount of food. Everything is pricier than the taste and portion size would otherwise suggest. The duck lumpia came in 3 pieces that were cut in half (I would actually pass on this). The kwee tiauw goreng was alright - it came with a scotch egg which was a fun touch. Indonesian/pan south Asian fare and a fun fire/wood decor--I was excited to try pretty much everything on the menu, and was glad to see some mock tail options on the menu as I'm still nursing. Crab rendang dip was a winner in my book (my traditional mother would say the shrimp chips were over cooked), and the chicken was *chefs kiss* finger licking good (I forget what the brown sauce was but I want it on everything). I recently came here for my fiancé's birthday dinner and it was a wonderful experience! We decided to share a bunch of plates instead of ordering our own meals, which was great because we got to try many different offerings. We got the duck lumpia, pastel udang, nasi goreng, Japanese curry, pepes ikan, and some jasmine rice on the side. Of these, the pepes ikan was our least favorite as we found it difficult to eat - it is a fish (which has a good flavor) wrapped in a banana leaf but it was challenging to actually get the meat of the fish apart from the leaf. Everything else was really good! We topped it off with the English date cake (obviously we had to get dessert since it was his birthday) which was so good and a perfect portion if you're just looking for a little sweet. We did not leave hungry and perhaps could have gone with one less plate between the two of us. The ambiance is also really fun. It has a dark, moody vibe and even the bathroom has red lights. We opted to sit inside given the homeless population wandering the street - this is how everywhere in LA is though and should not be viewed as a commentary on the restaurant itself. Everything tasted spectacular, it's quite literally the best food I've had in LA since lockdown began. Everything tastes fresh, flavor packed but not over the top and perfectly seasoned. I felt like I had been robbed after paying the bill. If you claim family style eating, your portions should be enough to at least feed 4 people. We also ordered an appetizer, which cost $4 more than the main dish, and that is barely portioned for 1 person. That math doesn't work. I've been to Indonesia and their food isn't even close. We had a great meal at Wallflower. I've been to Indonesia twice and really crave this food. This is an up to date and modern take on classics that are inspired and exotic. We started with the mixed drinks: I go no alcohol and had the Botanical Hemmingway, something delightful that is almost beyond description in human language. Got there and they seated us at a table that was clearly not big enough for 6 people. We were wedged in a corner. I politely asked the man at the door if we could move to an appropriate sized table or combine the table next to us which was empty along with half the tables in the restaurant. He just flatly said 'No we can't. That's your table.' Our bill was $600. The food was good, not great and our server was very pleasant.
