Not a good experience here today. Purchasing 1 6 pack. Multiple signs say they are $5.99. This had no label so cashier was given a number which came up giftware dump $6.99 and they would not change it to a plant cost. Very poor customer service

Walnut Creek Ace Hardware - The Place to Go for Plumbing Needs It's late in the evening, and I have to get a sink installed and all the plumbing hooked up before my new appliances arrive the next day. My options? Spend an two hours at Home Depot wandering around frustrated, trying to find the right parts, or go to Walnut Creek Ace Hardware and actually get what I need, fast. First off, if you're doing any plumbing, this is the place to go. They've got everything, well-stocked shelves, a great selection of parts, and something I really appreciate: a bin where customers can put back parts they don't need. That means I don't have to waste time digging through misplaced, random pieces like at the big box stores. But honestly, the real reason Ace beats everyone else? The people. Sonia was the first to help me. She was busy doing something else, but she stopped what she was doing to make sure I got exactly what I needed. And when she wasn't 100% sure on one part, she called in Stephan to take over. Stephan didn't just find the missing part I mentioned I needed a tool to drill a hole for the air gap on the dishwasher, and you know what he said? "I'll bring mine in tomorrow morning at 6:30 AM. You can borrow it." Who does that? That's customer service. Whatever they're paying Sonia and Stephan, it's not enough. These two care about their customers, and it shows. We live in an era of Amazon and DoorDash, where it's easy to forget what real customer service feels like. But Sonia and Stephan remind me that human connection still matters. Walnut Creek Ace, take care of these two. They're the reason I'll keep coming back. And to Sonia and Stephan, thank you. You give me hope for humanity.

Ace gave us the wrong paint color and refuses to make things right.

We are longtime customers of Ace in Walnut Creek. My husband loves Ace so much that we joke that when we retire, we need to move to a town with an Ace. We had a horrible experience with them and will not shop with them again. We had our garage doors, fascia, and gutters painted Sherwin Williams iron ore using paint we bought from this store. We bought one can to paint our garage doors in late March. We then bought another can for the fascia and gutter work in April. Both times, my husband told them very specifically Sherwin Williams iron ore and gave the woman behind the paint counter the paint number (7069). He even showed her a photo of the label of the first can to make absolutely certain it was the right color. Well...turns out it wasn't. The second can said the same paint name and number as the first "Iron Ore (SW 7069)" but had a different formula, which no one noticed (why Ace has two formulas for the same paint color is beyond our understanding). My husband, who relied on the expertise of these paint professionals, gave the can to our painter who proceeded to paint the fascia and gutters of our two-story home. I checked on the work at the end for the day and noticed that the fascia and garage doors didn't quite match. The painters weren't done though, and I figured it needed a second coat or time to dry (the fascia was originally brown and the new paint job had a brown tint to it). Our painter needed more paint, and my husband went to get a third can. He showed the person behind the counter the photo of the label of the first can and asked her to make sure it was the same that we had purchased before. She looked up our purchase history and noticed that the formulas on cans 1 and 2 of the SAME EXACT paint color iron ore 7069 were indeed different. At that point, we realized that the painter had spent an entire work day painting with the wrong paint color from Ace. That same afternoon, my husband came to the store and talked to the owner. After the owner spoke to the paint manager, he agreed that the associate who had mixed the paint had made a mistake. The owner asked my husband how much it would cost to repaint, and my husband told him that it was probably around $1000-$1500. They agreed that my husband would get an invoice from our painter and bring it the next day. The owner lamented over his employee's costly $1500 mistake and their "computer" problem. When my husband came to the store with the invoice, he was surprised to be told by a manager that the best they could do was refund us $50 (the owner was not there but this was apparently coming from the owner). He told my husband that the painter should have noticed they were different paint colors EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE SAME COLOR BY NAME AND NUMBER. The owner then called my husband that evening and told him the same thing, this time making a "final" offer of $150 gift card. He scoffed at the $900 invoice even though we had three people out here working all day. It's sad that they cannot own up to their mistakes and make their customers whole. Instead, they'd rather tell us to go kick rocks. We'll be filing a lawsuit in small claims court.

The train! Oh the cutest Ace of all.

Truth be told, my favorite shopping experiences are grocery and utility. Ace Hardware is much more of a standard material supply store and has so much more. I often can my own jams, sauces, etc. and love the classic Ball brand. My family and friends are jerks about returning jars, so I go to Ace. They have the best prices on canning jars. I checked online and they were available, so I went. My goodness, this store was adorable. Easy to find products and a huge assortment of housewares. I couldn't just stick to my purchase, I found so many great deals. PLUS, there is a train around the store! I love it.

Unfortunately, the management here is very rude and the prices are all significantly higher than what you will find elsewhere.

Celebrating Alamo Ace Hardware: from a long time customer…read more The magic of Alamo Ace Hardware starts with its remarkable longtime general manager, Keith Gilbert--part ringmaster, part retail genius--who's been running the show since the days of Yardbird. Thanks to Keith, this isn't just a hardware store...it's an experience. Walk through the doors during any holiday season and you're immediately greeted with festive, colorful, over-the-top displays that put a smile on your face. Then the real adventure begins--where else can you find Grandma-worthy homemade pies, Pokémon cards, a seriously swoon-worthy kitchen section, and every nut, bolt, and tool imaginable all under one roof? Alamo Ace has that rare, old-school, family-run feel--where people actually know what they're talking about and are genuinely happy to help you. It's the kind of place where you come in for a lightbulb and leave wondering how you lived without one of their Apple pies. Huge shout-out to the all-star team: Sharon in Electrical, Michael, Marty, Brennon, and Bill in Paint; Norm and Sue in Customer Service; Dennis, Al, and Bruce in Fasteners; Dianne and Kelly in Kitchen; Valerie in Garden; and Annie, Laurie, Joan, and Sharon at Checkout. And to anyone I missed--thank you. You all make this place what it is, a real neighborhood treasure! We are beyond lucky to have this gem in our neighborhood.

This afternoon after completing some minor electrical work for a customer, the woman asked me if I could replace the 40 year old hose Bibb in the back of her house. Long story short this turned into a Hugh mess and I found myself at Alamo Hardware with an employee named Al and the manager himself working on this frozen part and the ace crew were 100% trying everything they sold in an attempt to resolve problem regardless of the fact I only needed a $2.00 washer. This place is over the top i give it 6 stars it takes atleast one more to illustrate how much this place shines

The problem is nearly everything is locked to the wall with those really annoying little red blocks on the ends of the pegs. So, you can't actually look at anything, you have to call someone just to do that. This is a huge pet peeve and just irritates customers. I guess the problem is retail theft. This is not the solution. Find some other way. Invest in the store instead of just milking it with $29.99 wrenches. I probably won't shop there anymore because of this.

Besides the racial profiling? There were at least four people working here and the only person to…read moregreet me was the woman working up front. The rest of the guys sat around talking to her. I didn't realize that they were about to close, but I just wanted to get an extension cord with multiple plugs on it. I'm talking to my stepson who has worked in a couple of hardware stores about this and this yahoo comes over to me with a young kid and a phone and they proceed to take my picture. He was telling the kid about a wall they have in the back with people who steal. Really?!? At first I ignored them, but he was talking about the wall in the back and how to tell them apart, etc. So it was racist indoctrination at work. I'd just left an organization of professional woman who gave out a $1500 scholarship to a couple of young people. And I'm in grad school, so yes I was tired. And I work full time. But we'd had a small electrical fire and needed this cord so I got it. I was glad to return it to another, closer location and I made sure to tell my story to that employee. But these people are so busy worried about me, they are missing the methy nomads who are truly stealing from them! The truth is that the only reason I went in there at closing was because I was going next door to Whole Paycheck and I realized that they would be open longer. And no, not to steal but to buy something I needed. However, my husband had one at home we could use and I decided to take my money back from the racists. As I left, the one person who greeted me said goodbye. That's not to say that she was a friend or friendly, but she was respectful and I appreciated that. I just hope it was sincere.
