First time ordering takeout from Wasabi...definitely not the last! Our selections were General Tso's combo, Scallion Pancakes, and Thai Vegetables (I added eggplant for an upcharge (so worth it)). The pancakes were light & very flavorful. The combo was awesome-flavors were on point and the mustard & duck sauce for the egg roll were delicious. The Thai vegetables had a perfect balance of spice and flavor and were cooked perfectly: broccoli, carrots, zucchini, snow peas, baby corn, mushrooms, tofu (excellent) and the added eggplant...amazing! Plus-we picked up at 6:30PM on a Friday-all inside tables were full and there were at least 6 parties that came in after me to pick up. Super friendly staff as well. read more

I've been to Wasabi twice in the past month. I've driven past it for a few years and always wanted to try it. Well, I'm glad I did! The dining area is very nice -very sleek and modern looking. The seats were comfortable. I ordered miso soup, a cucumber roll and chicken katsu don. The soup was OK the cucumber roll was good and the chicken katsu don was,in my opinion ,very good. My friend ordered vegetarian sushi only and she said it was very good. Second time I went back and had the exact same dinner! Still delicious! My friend has a tuna chirashi bowl and he said it was very good. It's BYOB and a very good liquor store for was a few doors away! Service was good both times -the first time it was quite crowded and the second time it was quite empty. But the phone was constantly ringing for takeout -so I guess that's all to the good! They just opened the other day.... we decided to try it out, it was a good move. When we walked in, we where pleasantly surprised. You forget your in the "Giant" parking lot. Great lighting (interesting lights), and a very nice set up. The decor was very modern/up to date. The feel was a great mix of Japanese (sushi bar) & Chinese (spicy sauce at the tables). We started off with bubble teas (yes! finally bubble tea in the WC!). edamame was ok, cooked correctly, but missing the essential "sea salt" i'm used to. the steamed dumplings were good (according to my source), presentation did look nice. He also had Hamachi sushi, which he gave an A. I started with a Miso Soup, Good, then a House Salad with Ginger Dressing, Great, and had the the Wild Ginger entree with brown rice, good choice. tofu was good, not excellent, rest of the vegetables where excellent. I've been here once before and have had take out several times. I love the atmosphere and the take-out is good. Not crazy about their tuna rolls. What leads me to write this review and give two stars is my experience yesterday. The food was good. I ordered the lunch special Garlic Shrimp and a california roll. Got the Won-ton soup and then both my roll and my lunch at the same time. I asked for the roll first. Very tasty garlic shrimp..subtle flavors. What really ruined my experience though was the waitress. Served with an air of irritation and disinterest like I WAS BOTHERING HER. Made me very uncomfortable. I would normally rave about this place. But tonight my mom found a staple in her lo mein. It looked like one of the staples they use to close the bags. I considered that it had gotten in there from our bag, but the lo mein remained closed until we took the container to the family room and opened it while watching TV. Gave these guys another chance and we actually got seated this time, enjoyed a bottle of wine, and the sushi was quite good. I'm averaging up to three stars for now, and who knows, maybe another visit or two will get another star. I should mention, however, that there were some people in the tiny lobby area that had been waiting for their take-out orders for something like 45 minutes, and were pretty upset. I was a big fan of Kooma when it first opened in WC. However, since they decided to turn themselves into a bar / club / restaurant hybrid, the quality of their food and service have dropped. Wasabi now holds the title of best Japanese / Chinese restaurant in West Chester... and we have tried them all multiple times. The sushi is the best I've had outside of Philly, the staple Chinese take-out dishes are great, and their prices are extremely fair. As others have said, don't let the location turn you off. My only hope is that they do enough business to expand or change locations. Please support this fantastic restaurant!! On a side note, although I have not tried them, I hear Wasabi's bubble teas are great. This should be a big draw for fans of the drink, as I believe Wasabi is the only place in the area one can get bubble tea. I look forward to ordering one on our next visit. read more

(I´m giving this place 5 stars, but 4 is probably more accurate if you compare it to sushi and Chinese food places in NYC.) I stop by Wasabi about once a week for a bubble tea and either some sushi or the broccoli chicken. Wasabi is the only place in West Chester that serves bubble tea, and it is usually very good and natural. The "regular" bubble tea does not have any additive artificial powder stuff; it's just milk, jazmine tea, pearls, sugar, and a little ice. Yum! I've lived in Japan so the sushi cannot compare...At Wasabi it is westernized sushi, but very tasty and addicting nonetheless, and they will make it for you the way you want. My favorite is "Yummy"! Usually Chinese food is too salty, saucy, oily for me, and the meat too soft. But the taste, smell, and texture of Wasabi's broccoli and chicken seems quite natural and fresh. Not oily and no lingering aftertaste. Also, you can order meals with brown rice. A very good option for those with a sensitive or picky stomach. Sushi aside, if you are looking for authentic Japanese food, you may be disappointed as that's not their specialty. (Although my friend from Tokyo once ordered their sashimi and said it was "quite good.") In response to other reviewers about customer service, I agree, there is one girl there who is moody and exhausted by late evening, but just 1 out of 10 or so employees. It may be a cultural or personal thing. Not a big deal, the food is worth it. The rest of the employees there are hard-working and attentive. Watch out -- this place gets extremely busy on Friday and Saturday evenings and nights. There will be a bit of a line. Finally, I like the smell of the place. It's immaculate, and smells like sushi. I go here often. I like the variety. I can get a nice bowl of udon on snowy days and mix in some orange chicken or a Thai favorite. Everything is done with a flavorful twist. Good food! Service is good too. Food comes quick...maybe too quick. I've learned to hold my entree order or it will arrive before I finish my apps. Take out is well cared for too. Give it a try. My boyfriend and I went to Wasabi last night for dinner and we were both pleasantly surprised! For being in a small strip mall, the outside appearance was deceiving. The menu offered a variety of Chinese dishes and sushi. We had delicious sushi, very fresh, made at a counter that is in open view. My boyfriend got the Dragon & Phoenix and he couldn't stop raving about the flavor. It was fried chicken with a sauce that was sweet with a tiny kick and shrimp with steamed vegetables. The shrimp were the largest I've seen from a Chinese place in this area. Overall very high quality, good atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back or ordering take-out more often! read more

My son & I came here for lunch today 4/25/14. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere to it. For an appetizer, we ordered Crab Rangoon which was perfectly balanced with crab & cream cheese and fried crispy with sweet & sour sauce. We both ordered lunch specials. I ordered the Japanese spicy tuna bento box & my son ordered General Tso's Chicken extra spicy with Pork Lo mein. The food was excellent. The service was ok, our server was attentive & friendly, but some of the staff were rude. Also another thing we want to add is when an appetizer comes out give the diners time to enjoy the first course before the meal. My son is a culinary professional and was very disappointed when our lunch specials came out too soon before we had time to finish our appetizer. Time management was poorly executed needs to be addressed to management and the owners. I'm very sure your establishment take this very seriously but we just wanted to let you know. I went to this place a year and half after I had my son. I wanted Chinese, ate her and went into labor, it was that good. Now I do take out and it is just as good. I have been looking for a good spot in Downingtown and so far every one has been falling short or has been too expensive. This is right on the cusp of both, great food at an affordable price. Let me preface by saying I'm half Chinese and lived in lower Manhattan for 2 years, so I know good Chinese food when I see it. People have been raving about Wasabi to me for years, but I never ordered from them because I wasn't particularly close to any of their locations, and there were good places closer to me. I completely regret not eating here sooner (especially because I'm going to be moving in 2 months). I got a tuna roll, an avocado roll, tempura Udon noodle soup, and shrimp with broccoli (don't judge- I ate all of this over the course of a 3 days lol). The sushi was so fresh and they were very generous with the fish and avocado. Lots of places skimp out on the fish and overload with rice, but not here. The tempura udon was very good as well, with a HUGE generous portion of shrimp tempura and veggies accompanying the noodle soup. You can easily stretch this into 2 meals if you eat the udon and soup and then have steamed rice with the tempura. I love shrimp and broccoli, but normally I need to cook it again when I get it because it tastes a little too fishy for my taste and I love that charred flavor you get on shrimp. With this place I didn't feel the need to cook the shrimp further- it was perfect as is! There's also a flavor in the sauce I can't quite put my finger on, but I've only come across it when I'd get similar dishes in Chinatown NYC. Truly delicious. I think my only (very minor) complaint is that some of the shrimp in the shrimp and broccoli weren't cleaned. I couldn't tell if this was the norm or if some were just missed because about 1/2 of the shrimp weren't cleaned but the rest were. I know it won't hurt me- it's just a preference of mine. Not enough to warrant knocking off a star. My fiancé got the salt and pepper shrimp and it was AMAZING. I think I'm going to get it next time. Perfectly spiced and crispy. The 3 of us had Happy Family meals, and again, it was very, very good. Great, in fact! Scallops, lobster, crab was so fresh. Vegetables also. Great amounts of meat. This place has gone downhill in recent times. It used to be my favorite local place for sushi, but now I'll be finding someplace new. I've now had three bad experiences in a row, with each one getting progressively worse. As a side note, I always order to-go, and always order the same thing (a California roll, an Alaska roll, and a negahimachi roll). Because of that, I can make direct comparisons. Third time back: The rolls were poorly constructed, there was barely any wasabi, and they crammed it into a too-small container. Second time back: Again, poorly constructed rolls that were falling apart, insufficient wasabi, a too-small container, and this time, the fish felt warmer than usual. I live a few minutes away, it was winter, and I didn't have my car heater on. It should not have been room temperature. Today: I decided to ask for extra wasabi. However, they actually gave me less this time. The rolls were slightly better constructed - at least, some were - but not great. Again, the container was too small. But this time, I had my final straw when I found a bone in the fish in one of my rolls. I thought about going back to confront them, but I'm in the middle of finals, and don't want to take another trip out. In sum, this place used to be good, but the quality has simply gone downhill. Me and my girlfriend decided to do take out last night and tried the newly opened Wasabi Restaurant. Walked in and found a cozy atmosphere that wasn't over done with cheap oriental decorations but had a more modern look that we like. When we got home we noticed that they forgot my girlfriends sushi roll. So we called and they apologized and said it was a computer issue since the roll was new and wasn't added on the chefs end. And instead of them making me go all the way back over the actually had a guy come and deliver it to us which was extremely nice of them since they don't deliver. Besides that the Sushi was GREAT, the fried rice was amazing and the chicken and broccoli was actually loaded with chicken. Wasabi is a great Restaurant and has great customer service. I was shocked by how rude the girl at the register was today. I ordered takeout and she acted like I was bothering her. Customer Service is very important and even tho the food I ordered was very good , her attitude and rudeness turned me off. I've been here many times before but it will be a long time before I go back to get treated like that again! The taller girl with the glasses seemed to be nice and she kept looking at the rude girl like she was out of her mind for treating a customer like that! Eek! Methinks not... The food at this restaurant was terrible. I was passing through Lancaster and, as usual, turned to Yelp for a recommendation. At the time I did this the restaurant had 4 stars and I am glad at the time of this writing it had fallen to 3 1/2. But it should go even lower. My table ordered two soups, Miso and Clear. The Clear was tepid and OK, but the miso was cold and tasteless. Next came burnt Gyoza. The dumplings obviously had been frozen. They were still cold on the inside and the cook that was supposed to warm them, burnt them on the outside, without warming them. We sent those back and ordered a Thai Beef Salad.The salad was better than the Gyoza but not by much. I have never seen a salad as bad as this in ANY Thai restaurant I have been in. It was a disgrace. A second appetizer was sliced octopus served over thinly sliced cucumber. Good idea but the execution was a second disgrace. Everything had been frozen. The cucumber was mush. Ever eaten cucumber that has been frozen? Eek!! The octopus was also a soggy, water logged mess. The Sushi arrived before I could cancel it and leave, and here is the real disaster. Sushi is all about rice. This rice was like a paste. You could not discern that it was even made up of grain, it was a translucent spread. OMG, how bad can it get!
