Food barely qualifies for an 'okay', but the service is terrible. I decided to eat at the hotel's restaurant instead of walking over to the quincy market , to save time. But i ended up spending almost the twice time - the servers kept me waiting at every step. By the time paid bill, i had spent 1 hour 50 minutes. P.s.: did i mention i was eating alone. I understand that some places give you time to chat when you have company, but that wasn't the case here. read more

MAYBE the Waterline can reheat bourbon chicken wings and fry up a cheeseburger. I don't eat that kind of food so I don't know. The falafel sandwich and Cobb Salad were two of the worst meals I've have ever had. Service? A-OK. Cocktails? You bet. Food? It's awful and I can't imagine the kitchen cares. The Marriott Long Wharf is in the heart of the fun in Boston - Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the North End are practically next door. There's great food and fun to be had out there. I just had one of the worst lunches that I can remember. First, I had " HOUSE MADE STREET STYLE TACOS $12 slow smoked brisket | chipotle cream pickled cabbage | farm cheese " Tacos should not be made with flour tortillas but that's not the biggest problem with this dish. There was one dominant flavor - - barbecue sauce -- heavy-handed, salty, sweet, bottled barbecue sauce. Then we had the" NORTH END SALAD $13 prosciutto de parma | artisan greens | spiced walnuts caramelized pears | camembert | cherry balsamic vinaigrette". Again, heavy handed. Everything was OK but the pears were so sweet, I would hesitate to call them "caramelized" - more "steeped in sugar". Service was fine. read more

Awesome chowder...at first I was skeptical of the recommendation from the front desk of the Marriott because it's their restaurant...but after a long day of traveling I thought 'what the heck' I could try the chowder and decide what to do with myself the rest of my trip. Chowder was the best I had through Boston and my wife even went back for lunch one day. read more

Waterline presents the most relaxing, cozy atmosphere while offering some of the best in New England cuisine. The warm, den-like sofas, bookshelves and TVs are inviting. Theres a proper bar and restaurant seating, in addition to outside seating. My recommendation, however, is to dine upon the couches in the lobby area. Waiter service is available in this area. Theres also a Starbucks in the main Marriott lobby. Just outside of the hotel is the IMAX theater, the ferries to the Vineyard and other destinations and on the other side, The downtown financial district. read more

Stopped in for a drink and some snacks. There were four of us, and we all thought the prices were way too high for what we got. Yes, there's a view, but really. The nachos were made with what looked like Cheese Whiz - really not good, we only ordered chips after that. Seven dollars for a few chips? SO many great things about this place! I live in the North End, but I still come here to get drinks and feel pampered. 1. A couple years ago, my boyfriend at the time was being deployed to Afghanistan. We decided, just the two of us, to have his going away dinner Waterline (It was named something different at the time, but same faces/staff). We got a bunch of things to eat, as well as drinks. The server was amazing and so attentive. My boyfriend was wearing his dress blues to dinner, and the server gave us the ENTIRE meal free to thank him for his service. Even after us INSISTING to pay, he still comped the whole meal + drinks. Of course we still tipped him generously for his kind act. This is a HUGE reason why I come back. 2. The new layout has COMFY couches that have outlets and their own mini televisions. Many times I brought my laptop here (wi-fi) and did work, ate, and watched games in the privacy of my own comfy couch. Love it! 3. The scenery is amazing! 4. Drinks and food are well priced! I would recommend this for a nightcap or dessert. read more

OMG..it's 4:40...I waited 10 minutes for a cup of soup and another 10 for him to come back and almost 15 for my 3 appetizer tacos. So, an hour ago I was the only one seated on this side of the restaurant. Now it's busy. Last night I ordered room service from the same restaurant and it came faster than in house. The food, well...man this is GOOD . Even my cold tacos taste very very good. They must not sell a lot of them because you cannot order a variety of them. It is either pork or beef or shrimp. Although the service was lousy, the food is very good. I could have eaten in 100 other places tonight, but I'm glad I picked this one. Hopefully the service will be better next time. read more

Located in the Marriott Long Wharf, I had breakfast and dinner here. For a hotel restaurant it wasn't too bad. I actually preferred dinner over their breakfast. Being in Boston on the water, I had to try the Clam Chowder, and guess what, it was damn good! For my main course at dinner I had a steak and it was cooked a nice medium rare and had good flavor. Breakfast was just okay. Nothing to write home about, but it was convenient. Service for both was attentive and pleasant. read more

The space is pretty, and our bartender was efficient with our two boozy coffees, which we'd asked for to-go. The value, however, just wasn't there. $26 before tip for two wells drinks is pretty outrageous wherever you are, even in metropolitan Boston. Prices weren't discussed beforehand, and I two-stars blame myself, but also two-stars blame the Marriott. My recommendation is to check the menu for prices before ordering. read more

We went for lunch and were slightly disappointed that they did not have a brunch menu on Saturday. The service was warm and friendly! I thought the food was good and nicely prepared. The portion sizes were hearty. A bowl of clam chowder was HUGE but, of course, delicious so I ate the whole thing. The calamari was interesting with fried kalamata olives (which I loved!). I think the atmosphere was nice, though I wish there were more ocean views - the bar is blocking the window, which I thought was a big miss from a design perspective. Warm friendly mildly expensive restruant inside the Marriot hotel. They have a medium sized breakfast buffet and a regular breakfast menu. The buffet does not include anything cooked to order. The traditional Eggs Benadict were served with hash browns and the coffee order included a pot for the table. Everything was very good, well prepared and tasty. We usually avoid hotel restaurants but coming in from a long flight and into snow and wind, we chose to stay in for dinner. We had our toddler with us and Kate was so attentive. She brought us all water and my son a kids cup with water and straw, along with a kids menu with crayons to occupy him. The staff overall was very friendly and the food was great! On Saturday, July 11, 2015, my wife and I dined at Waterline, the Marriott Long Wharf's "signature restaurant". The food and service were fair, but the real crime was the sleazy way in which the restaurant screws you when you order wine. Many restaurants at which I dine in New England offer wine by the glass in 6 oz. or 9 oz. servings. This restaurant also offers a tiny little 3 oz. serving, but if you don't notice the fine print at the top of the wine page, you'll easily assume the left hand column is pricing for 6 ozs. and the next column is 9 ozs. That misconception is reinforced when the waiter asks if you'd like a 6 oz or 9 oz serving and never mentions that there is a 3 oz. size. You can imagine our horror when the bill arrived and a 6 oz. glass of pretty humble wine came in at more than $25! Our waiter acknowledged that we were not the first patrons that had made this mistake. But this is where things went from bad to worse. In most upscale restaurants, the waiter would have been empowered to simply adjust our bill, given the understandable error. In this case, he had to hold a ten minute pow-wow with the manager, who then came to our table and regretted there was nothing he could do unless we were staying the hotel in which case perhaps he could adjust some other charge. Again, in just about any upscale restaurant a competent manager would have comp'ed us the whole glass of wine. But not Marriott's deputy dog....in order to ensure he salvaged the extra $13.00 for Marriott corporation he infuriated us. I tried to explain to him that in this day and age of the internet and sites like Yelp he was not thinking clearly, but he was not budging. So to all of you that might contemplate heading over to Waterline, I hope you'll not only choose another restaurant but also reply that you found this review "Useful" so that the hotel may someday learn any one or more of the following four lessons: 1. When you're going to sell just a 3 oz. serving of wine, you better make damn well sure that your customers know that the 6 oz. glass of wine is the SECOND pricing column and they're about to pay and arm and a leg for their wine; 2. When a customer complains about being hoodwinked, empower your wait staff to make it right. 3. If you insist on involving a manager in situations like this, empower them to make it right. 4. Ensure your managers don't keep patrons waiting ten minutes to be told, "Sorry, it's your tough luck". read more

After a wonderful night in the city we met here for a nightcap that quickly turned into nightcaps. The Pink Moon Martini is amazing! Strawberry Moonshine with lemon? Yes please! Our server was a little awkward but the atmosphere was great. We ordered the salted chips and cheese dip. It was awesome! Chives on top of the cheese! We arrived at Long Wharf hoping for more action, but in early November it seemed that our only "waterfront" options with a slight "waterview" for a drink were here and the bar at Legal Seafood. We were hoping for a view of the harbor while having a few drinks, but the tables in the bar area are oddly/poorly placed to facilitate a good view. The bar had several local brews and a fairly large list of wines by the glass. The drinks seemed overpriced with $6-$8 beers and 6 ounce wine pours over $10. 3, 6, or 9 ounce pours were available and priced out. The first glass of wine came in a measured carafe, and the second in the actual glass - filled to the brim and nearly double the size of the first. There were two bartenders, and we thought maybe one was more "strict" than the other. We ordered the buttered pretzel appetizer, which came with two types of mustards and a cheese sauce. It was tasty and hit the spot, but was definitely hotel/chain restaurant quality. The best part was our friendly waiter with his thick, Boston accent. read more

Had lunch here during a conference and waiting a very long time. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you are in any kind of hurry. Only one server and then a fill-in manager that was helping to take orders. We tried to order the easiest items off the menu and it still took 30+ minutes to get it. read more

Great food, great service. I keep getting their bourbon-inspired food. Wings cooked perfectly, great brisket and fries. Waitstaff is wonderful and friendly. Kitchen is a little slow, and you are in an open hotel lounge area so the ambiance isn't the best, but there are some views of the docks and water. read more

Almost hate to write the review because this is a hidden gem. We live in the north end and this is a great place to hit up for good beer and bar food. The staff is awesome- shout out to Shannon! She met my parents, they told us to come, we spread the word, and we're still coming back. The power of having a great bartender who is friendly and personable is so underrated. We see a lot of other North Enders in here too. Bottom line grab an IPA on rotating tap and ask for the chicken tenders with buffalo sauce and blue cheese- you'll love it. read more

I had a really nice off hours midday experience here. The service is superb. And the lobster roll was really good--classic w tons of lobster v lightly dressed. The accompanying homemade dill ranch chips I've discovered are the perfect accompaniment to lobster rolls--better taste bomb than fries or slaw! I had higher hopes for Waterline, especially having had the affordable yet delicious breakfast at its previous incarnation as Oceana. This Marriott has since remodeled itself, rocketing into this century with a modern hangout/library (reminds me of a cruise ship library, but bigger, better, and provides a cool respite from the wilting heat of summer), and what seems to be a popular bar/lounge/restaurant. I was thrilled to have a huge Cobb salad to which the waitress agreed that I could delete the blu cheese crumbles and dressing. Odd that they don't offer any balsamic vinaigrette, but I was glad to have a red wine vinaigrette option. Instead of a salad potion that would make me drool, it was a thick, gooey, near paste-like substance, and I was happy that I had the foresight to order it on the side. That said, the salad itself was fresh and didn't need dressing, as it had lots of yummy avocado, egg, juicy lettuce leaves, chicken, and the lobster salad that I added to it. It's market price, but on last Friday night, it was a $12 add on. My new husband ordered the lobster roll. Since we live in town, we've had lobster rolls that would be make Godzilla happy and also make a grown man sad and hungry for more food. Sadly, this roll was the latter experience. And the service was lacking in many ways. It was one of those never-around waitress moments where we actually had to get up and ask for the check after 20 minutes of waiting to pay. Do you want to give me free food? Just say so and I'll happily leave you to ignore the bill for the rest of your life. We didn't expect such bad service, since the host was a very nice, suave older gentleman; he set the tone for a good evening. Ah well. Maybe next time. But I don't think I'll be able to get hubby to return; a big man needs a big sandwich, not a dainty tea-wich. read more
