Great location! Sit outside if you can - wonderful view and breezes. We had Bobby as our server and although he was new and didn't have answers to all of our questions, he was friendly & attentive. My husband and I took a friend out to dinner and we had mussels (her favorite!), asparagus, lobster mac & cheese, smoked quail, duck salad, stuffed chicken, several drinks (nice wine list!), and a slice of key lime pie for dessert. I recently spent 3 nights in Charleston and of all my meals on vacation this was my least favorite which was a disappointment since there were pretty good reviews on yelp. Everything was really just okay. My boyfriend and I split the calamari as an appetizer,'it was good but nothing special. I ordered the shellfish pasta and again, it was good but nothing that really "wowed" me. The location is great, right on the water, good view of boats, and the staff was super friendly. If I came back I would probably just order drinks and enjoy the view, I likely would not eat here again. read more

This is an upscale place with amazing views, and a fairly decent menu. The Shrimp n' Grits is done in a gourmet fashion. The wine list is fairly extensive, but not exhaustive. The seafood options were very decent, with an emphasis on locally caught. The Shrimp n' Grits are warned as a being spicy, but I don't that was accurate. But very good nonetheless. read more

Not a great experience at Water's Edge. Seared tuna was awful... Too thick, no flavor, cold, and the sides were like something of a box. The "crab dip" was almost void of crab, only big chucks of artichoke. BBQ salmon and service were pretty good but that's about it. Never returning. read more

Although they don't have any vegan options listed on the menu, they told us that the chef loves a creative challenge and went out of their way to accommodate me. Without needing to check, they brought a side of oil along with the butter for bread. The manager interviewed me about my preferences and about 15 minutes later brought a giant, delicious spread. For $18.75 (including tax), I got asparagus summer rolls, sushi rice, a cajun veggie stir fry, a pickled vegetable sriracha salad inside of a bell pepper, and a sautéed portobello. I could only finish half of the plate. Their balsamic dressing is also vegan. They appreciated a heads-up that we were coming, but it seems like this is the type of place that can easily accommodate vegans upon request AND knows what ingredients are in their food. Came here on Tuesday afternoon for happy hour outside at the cabana bar. We sat at our table for 15-20 minutes until someone took our order. By then it was 7:01 so she said we wouldn't get happy hour prices. We decided to order food anyways. Our food came out fast but we were not impressed to say the least. Our fried oyster appetizer came with 5 oysters and the shrimp quesadillas looked like something I could throw together myself in a couple of minutes. I recently got a similar order of appetizers at the brand new Mill Street Tavern (down the road on Shem Creek). Same prices but the food was night and day. I usually don't write negative reviews about places but I felt this was necessary. Also, I left my sunglasses on the table and they magically disappeared shortly after I left. My wife and I went tohappy hour today 4-7 in the cabana bar connected to the docks . Service was great . Food and drinks were awesome . For some reason everyone around us start smoking. There were no ash trays on the tables and the cabana bar was enclosed but it didn't stop people from smoking at the bar and tables inside the enclosed space. With none of the fans on , Some people did leave the area and had cigerettes on the dock in the open area. unfortunately with the cabana bar still being enclosed my wife started having breathing problems while trying to enjoy food and drinks . We left ,will probably never come back for the happy hour at the cabana bar especially if it remains enclosed . The restaurant is great inside and the outdoor sitting on the main floor is wonderful. I even proposed to my wife there. I just don't think it's right for people having to deal with smokers in a enclosed space will food and drinks are served is an ideal space for that. read more

Our docent at one of the historic mansions we visited recommended this place for good seafood right on the river with a nice scenic view, so we took her advice and were glad we did. The reviews, however, left us a bit hesitant, but it appears they cleaned up whatever service issues they may have had there, because our waitress was on top of her game--and the food was certainly top-notch. They were doing some work on the marina outside, so our window view of the water wasn't the best (but hey, it happens)--overall this place is a winner in my book, just a short car ride across the Ravenel Bridge from Charleston, which makes it very easy to get to. If we're back when its warmer out, then I'm sure we'll sit outside at this or one of the other restaurants or bars in the marina/riverfront area there. read more

Really wanted to like this place but it was just okay. The view is great but so is everything on the creek. Has the shrimp salad appetizer, it was okay. I was with a party of five, everyone enjoyed their food except for me. Service and atmosphere were great. I don't understand why they serve foreign shrimp when they are located on Shem Creek. Shrimp boats are right there. Serve and support local shrimpers. Tourist want to experience local food. So disappointed that shrimp was not local during shrimp season. Serve local shrimp!! Won't be back. Whatever restaurant you go to ask if fish and shrimp are local. At better places it will be. read more

Great view, great food, great service. Came here for brunch and we were not disappointed. Nice little buffet. The menu items looked great. There was even a Bloody Mary bar! You can sit inside or outside. It was a bit hot out at 10am, so we opted for inside. Oh! The little waffles!!! So good. We wanted to keep eating, but had to stop so we wouldn't hurt ourselves... Lol. My brother and I stopped in for lunch after a morning of fishing so you can go ahead a assume we weren't dressed nicely. We sat down at the bar and was immediately greeted by a young man who gave us water and said he'd be right back. 15 minutes later, he hasn't returned and the entire staff just walks by as if we aren't even there. What looked to be a manager was chatting up a customer getting takeout. Finally she came to take our order and suggested the spicy seafood pasta. It was ok. Then random people kept checking on us like there was no real person manning the bar. The place was beautiful but the service and food was not good to us. I don't know if it was because we were fishing all day and weren't dressed as nicely as the restaurant was decorated. But again, it is a waterfront restaurant and next to a park with fishing. read more

Our first restaurant choice was unavailable so we stopped in at 5:30 without reservations (Sunday, July 3rd) and was seated immediately. Just like an earlier review, we found the restaurant nearly empty on a holiday weekend. The 3 young woman at the hostess station did not welcome us, nor show any emotions or enthusiasm for us being there. One of them seated us by the window overlooking the water, which was very nice and added to our experience. Waiter was nice and engaging. But the food was average, especially when you consider the price...a little high. I ordered shrimp and penne, which was very tasteful. Shrimp was small, but I did get about a dozen. My wife ordered a salad and crab cake appetizer. The crab cake was more filler than crab. Meals did not come with a salad or vegetables. We were served warm bread. Overall it was an average experience, but if you take away the view, it becomes not worth it. read more

We visited Waters Edge while on vacation in Charleston a few weeks ago. We got there late but they didn't seem annoyed by our arrival just before the kitchen closed. Service was good, food was great, scenery was great.... All around a great experience! Had the grouper entree as well as the paella, both excellent. Even had some dolphins out in the water way putting on a show while we ate. Will definitely go back when we are in town again. No beers on tap though, all bottled. read more

Alright I am giving waters edge 5 stars mostly for the view of Shem Creek. But they do have good food. The one thing I have to say is that the waterfront bar in the summer is crowded and stuffy thanks to the lack of fans, they do have some but not nearly enough for the multitude of people that cram into that bar area. I do like waterfront more than Reds maybe because of the clientele that go there I am not 100% sure yet but all I do know if given the choice I would skip Reds. read more

My wife and I were disappointed with this place. The food was average, although I did enjoy the Shrimp and Grits. Her scallops and shrimp were both a little under cooked. They were also supposed to be grilled and they were sautéed in butter. It is definitely over priced. Yelp lists this place as kid friendly and casual but it is most definitely not. I would say this place caters more to a professional business casual crowd. This is not a bad thing but, not what we were looking for with our two year old daughter. Nice waitress asked what I thought of food - told her I love the Collar Greens (with bacon!). She then asked what I thought of seafood, gave her my honest opinion. Called ahead to make sure they had crab legs. When we got here and ordered, the waitress informed me they were out until tomorrow. I settled for a filet Mignon medium rare. I got a well done dry filet. I informed her and she brought out a medium filet. I ate it, but it definitely wasn't worth 30$. No flavor at all. The rice was hard and dry with also no flavor. Over an hour wait even though we were told 20 mins. The food was adequate, albeit cold. The service was good until we didn't take the waiter's suggestion of getting the specials. After that the service was almost nonexistent. Our food was delivered cold. And my husband did not have a fork. After sharing a fork for 10 mins I got up and got him one from a nearby table. My wife and I recently had an amazingly poor and good experience at Water's Edge. The location and view's from the restaurant dinning room were good. The server was attentive and the dinning room clean. That's where it stops at the, "water's edge". I was looking forward to our Charleston's signature dish of She crab soup, Shrimp and grits, and great conversation with the couple that had invited us. My wife, a tuna lover, found her favorite on the menu. My, "She crab soup", was completely lacking the row and was served as a cold dish of white cream sauce with spatters of crab meat. ( Might have been better as a bisque had the chef added flour and water )... too watery. My Shrimp and grits was an offering of bland red sauce and small shrimp over a mound of grits that had been scooped out of some vat with an ice cream scooper. My wife's fair was brown colored tuna served in a jungle of greens ( I presume to make it plate better ). Maybe the chef will someday learn that less is more. There are great places to dine in Charleston and, take it from a local... this is not one! Go for drinks at the great bar and the view, but eat somewhere else ! read more

In general, this place is a good pick for lunch or dinner. We sat outside on a Sunday afternoon (definitely make reservations because Sunday brunch can fill up) and the outside deck is nice and the people/boat watching is pure entertainment :) The food is nothing special, but they have a big variety of salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. I had the calamari as an appetizer and the Caesar Salad with grilled shrimp and scallops for my lunch. They have a really extensive Sunday brunch buffet and Bloody Mary buffet! read more

Just happened upon this place much to our delight! Sit at the bar during happy hour and thoroughly enjoyed both the service and food. Ann Marie our bar tender was one of the best I've ever seen. Even though the place was super busy, her attentiveness and service was excellent. The staff is super friendly and you can't beat the 1/2 price cold brews and apps! Oysters were great also. After a visit the to Sullivan's Island where we were turned away from a couple restaurants, We pulled into Waters Edge at about 7pm on a Sat night in early Nov 2016. Not only did they seat us but they proceeded to serve us appetizers of Calamari, Oysters in the half shell, entrees of Seafood Pasta, Prime Rib, King Crab Legs and a Filet Mignonette with Scallops added. Our drinks never went dry and we were taken care of by a wait staff that is as good as any we have had nationwide!! We will be back next time we visit the Low Country!! And btw, the collards were the best I have ever had anywhere ever!! read more
