If less than 1 star could be left, I would. Order was wrong from the start, wasn't given a receipt and the worst part was a long black hair found in my food. Workers didn't know how to give a refund or print a receipt for me, so had to go back next day. One of the "owners" was helping me and was offended I asked for a full refund and not just where I found the hair. Very entitled and didn't seem to comprehend why having hair in food is a bad thing. Let's start with the service. Orange haired kid w glasses takes forever to take my order and looks at me like I'm talking Klingon. I just wanted a chicken sandwich and a burger with fries. I'm thrilled to welcome back a great burger place to the area that's been sorely missing one. There used to be a Smashburger in this location. We also lost Canyon burger which was close. Think along the lines as Burger Joint or 5 Guys. Wayback burgers are similar and arguably better than many of its competitors. You can personalize your burger the way you want it. Patties are small, I'd suggest a double. They are sort of smash style but still thick enough to be juicy. The bun is big like a brioche which calls for a thicker double patty. The thing that makes Wayback really stand out is its side options. You can get fries, Irish nachos, chips, onion rings, Mac and cheese bites or tater tots and load them up. I'm not a fan of this location. The burgers are not seasoned,they just smother them with way too much sauce. Both times my burger was sloppily made and the wrapper had sauce all over it. If you've never tried a burger from wayback,I would try another location 1st. The only thing that I enjoyed was the temperature of the burger..it was a perfect medium. The chili cheese fries are packed to go in a weird way with no top. I also tried the cookies and cream shake which tasted like they used too much ice,I just tossed it in the trash. One piece of tomato the size of a pickle. One piece of soggy lettuce very small, one spot of ketchup, a few onion chips.Even the bun no good,the burger fell apart. The fries i threw out. The food is great every time. Me and my gf are vegan and these are one of the best (if not the best) burger substitutes ever. They do the impossible burger brand which we've had before but the grilled onions and Wayback sauce kick it up for me. Their Cajun tots are a must have along with it. Service Is great and friendly. Keep in mind though this isn't fast food. You're going to wait 10 minutes for your burger and that's the way it is. It has a pretty classic modern diner feel and some limited outdoor seating. I actually was ordering with Julie, the owner, and what a sweet person! Anyway, we had the burgers and we LOVED THEM! We 've been back there 3 or so times in the past month and I've tried different things there and loved all of them plus Julie is such a pleasure to talk to. After watching The Menu, my husband and I decided to go out for a burger. So glad we did! We found Wayback burger in Darien. My husband enjoyed the single cheeseburger. I ventured out and tried their The Cheesy...it lived up to its name. The burger was cooked to perfection and layered with cheese. We shared a 1/2 onion ring 1/2 fry order. The onion rings were crispy and tender at the same time. We ended our meal with a think caramel milkshake - don't forget dessert! On top of the delicious food, the service was great!!
